And yes, a large part of this may be that I no longer feel like I can trust "init" to do the sane thing. You all presumably know why.
In 1988, the Replacements met Tom Waits. Unsurprisingly, they got really drunk together, but they also had an impromptu studio session, which resulted in a B-side. Many years later, more of the recordings were unexpectedly included on a digital-only release.
Michael Richo, a 35-year-old from Connecticut, had the brilliant idea of stealing bitcoin from people involved in illegal deals through dark web marketplaces. Perhaps he thought that he would be safe from law enforcement if he stuck to robbing potential criminals but, as it turns out, he was wrong. Richos modus operandi was as follows: He created fake login pages for various online marketplaces, and posted links to them on a number of dark web More
Canadian-born artist Andrew Salgado (previously here and here) presents a new body of work composed of towering portraits that span over eight-feet-tall. The mixed media works incorporate materials as diverse as paperback books and miniature cactiobjects that bring even more texture to the cross-hatched oil and pastel faces portrayed on each canvas. The works are included in his solo exhibition A Room With a View of the Ocean which runs through August 20 at Lauba House in Zagreb, Croatia. You can see more of Salgados mixed media works on his Facebook and Instagram.

The School of Visual Arts MFA Visual Narrative program is onto something universal. Unlike most MFA programs, their focus isnt limited to one medium or artistic practice. Instead, their students are challenged to develop their own, unique narrative voice to inform a professional practice as both artist and author. With equal emphasis on creative writing and visual communication, this story-focused approach to art education encourages students to hone their skills in the medium that best supports the realization of their voice.
Heading into this years And Thenthesis exhibition, whether expressed as hand-stitched collaged picture books, faux-realistic notebooks, pixelated video games, or fully realized digital environments, each project and its unique characters begin to take on lives of their own. Some reach out, making connections to their heritage or history. Others look around and question their sense of family or community. And there are those that stretch themselves to make or break strong ties to other beings at great personal cost. Seen altogether, all of these characters struggle to link with their own humanity.
The work you will see arises from the closely-held parts of each students own lives using the connective tissues of their own histories, preoccupations and experiences. This process requires a great deal of personal bravery and tenacity to find the voice and means necessary to achieve their own unique visions.

In March 2016, researchers in Switzerland and Canada published a meta-analysis in The Lancet, exploring the optimal painkiller and dose for treating pain in knee and hip osteoarthritis. The Gordian Knot is Book 13 of Schooled in Magic. Like Infinite Regress, it forms one-half of a two-book series; ideally, I plan to write Graduation Day in September, with The Zero Curse between them. Truthfully, it probably won't make that much sense unless youve already read the first twelve books, which - by amazing coincidence - are available from my site (The Chrishanger).
And I do offer ARCs to...

Heres the latest floreal composition painted by our friend Francisco Diaz, aka Pastel, on the streets of Paris, France.
Entitled Aster et symphorine this superb mural is located in the 14me arrondissement, on the facade of a building surrounded by La petite ceinture, an old dismissed bounding rail built in 1852 for load trains around the area.
During the 30s the Municipality of Paris decided to close the rails due to population growth and the dynamic complexity in urban terms of keeping such a solid border. Once abandoned, nature started to take prominence renewing the landscapes identity.
Just flipping through the Old M40A1 Manual (FMFRP 0-11A) when it
dawned on me that every 7.62 Government Manual states that the
rifle needs to be cleaned for 3 consecutive days after firing. Not
to mention that you should run a brass bore brush soaked in solvent
down the barrel twice for every round fired.
So I was just wondering How many folks still use Lucas Bore Guides?
One of the first things Leica will tell you about the TL2 is how special its physical construction is. Reminiscent of Apple products, the TL2s camera body is machined from a single block of aluminum, giving it a special look, feel, and solidity, Leica says.
At the core of the TL2 is a new 24-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor and a Maestro II image processor. ISO goes up to 50,000 now, up from 12500 in the TL.
Continuous shooting speed has also been greatly improved: while the TL could do 5fps at 16MP for up to 12 photos, the TL2 can do 20fps at 24MP for up to 29 images using the electronic shutter (or 7fps using the mechanical one).
On the video front, the TL2 has an increased resolution of 4K, up from 1080p. You can do 4K at 30fps, 1080p at 60fps, and 720p at up to 120fps (slow motion).
The TL2 is also designed to be fast: it has a startup time of just 0.6 seconds, silent electronic shutter exposures at up to 1/40000s, and....

Video games have long attempted, to an ever more impressive degree of realism, to conjure up their own virtual realities. But then, so have filmmakers, for a much longer period of time and at least so far with more effective results. The most respected directors fully realize "virtual reality" with each film they make, and Stanley Kubrick stands as one of the best-known examples. During his almost fifty-year career, he immersed his audience in such distinctive cinematic worlds as those of Lolita, 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, and Full Metal Jacket, leaving us in 1999 with the final, much puzzled-over feature Eyes Wide Shut.
The atmospherically uneasy story of a doctor who spends a night in New York City wandering into ever stranger and more erotically charged situations, Eyes Wide Shut both adapted material not well known in America, the Austrian writer Arthur Schnitzler's 1926 novella "Dream Story," and starred two of the biggest celebrities of the day, the then-married couple Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman playing the married couple Bill and and Alice Harford. Kubrick made use of these qualities and many others to deal with such traditional subjects as love, sex, infidelity, and secret cults while, in the words of Evan Puschak, better known as the video essayist Nerdwriter, "making our engagement with these things one-of-a-kind."
If youre a web developer, chances are youre going to have to write some CSS from time to time.
Somewhere during your progression as a web developer, that changed though! Whats worse is that many developers in the front end community have come to dismiss CSS as a toy language.
The truth however is that when we hit a wall, many of us dont actually understand what our CSS is doing under the hood.
We all like to make jokes about it, but how many of us have actually taken the time to try and understand the CSS were writing or reading. How many of us have actually reasonably debugged an issue to the next lowest abstraction layer when we hit a wall? Instead, we settle for the first StackOverflow answer, hacks, or we just let the issue go entirely.
All too often developers are left completely puzzled when the browser renders CSS in ways they didnt expect. Its not dark magic though and as developers we know that computers are just parsing our instructions.
Knowledge of internals can also be useful for advanced debugging and performance tuning. While many conference talks discuss how to fix common bugs, my talk (and this post) will focus on the why by taking a deep dive into browser internals to see how our styles are parsed and rendered.
At a high level you can think of them as the following:

A bus in Myanmar (all photos by author for Hyperallergic unless otherwise noted)
YANGON, Myanmar The contemporary art scene in Myanmar (Burma) is undergoing a whiplash-inducing level of change that reflects the trajectory of the country. Consider these stats: In the year 2000, a SIM phone card cost roughly $2,000. The price dropped to $500 around 2006, then $250 in 2012. Today, a SIM card costs a mere $1 in a country where the minimum monthly wage is approximately $67. As recently as 2012, only 1% of the population used the internet, and only 5% had mobile phone access. During that time, internet caf users had to supply their passport numbers, addresses, and phone numbers to caf owners, with all usage recorded and sent to Myanmar Info-Tech every two weeks. Then, in 2013, Norwegian telecommunications company Telenor and the Qatari company Ooredoo were awarded contracts to connect most of Myanmar to a wireless phone network. The country catapulted from landlines to smartphones and Facebook, flying past computer-based internet in fewer than five years.

Kelli and Tony Collins owned a house in Hilo, Hawaii when they started looking for a new space to rent in Viera, Florida two years ago. Kelli, a marine scientist turned social media consultant and Tony, a warrant officer, met on a mutual job for the Coast Guard in Hawaii ten years ago and the career has taken them all over the United States; San Diego, San Francisco, Key West, and Hawaii until finally relocating them to the Space Coast. They searched from afar for a nice neighborhood with a good school for their two girls, Lindy and Mallory, until it became clear that becoming second homeowners was the smartest decision based on the market at the time. When their trusted real estate agent recommended a 1997, Florida ranch style house, Kelli wanted to know if she personally would buy the home. The relator responded, I would. It has great bones, but its really whitewhite walls all around, needs some color. Kelli knew this wouldnt be a problem for her family and they made an offer on the three-bedroom house, sight unseen!
Since Tony is at sea for two months at a time, the renovations the couple wanted to make took around six months to complete. They remodeled the kitchen and bathroom, adding ornamental accessories like sinks and lighting to create a layered, bohemian aesthetic. Frequent trips to her Grandfathers ranch in Mexico inspired Kellis love of ornate, Mexican pottery and she had always wanted a space for a Talavera backsplash. After purchasing the coveted ceramic tiles on Amazon and installing on one side of the kitchen, Kelli and Tony realized it was a daunting task and struggled to find the motivation to finish the job. Kelli confides, We kept putting it off, so I invited family over for dinner one night and told Tony that we only had three hours to finish before they came over. I often laugh at how quickly we installed that side and the wet grout unbeknownst to our guests. They also planned to paint the cabinets, but Tony left for sea before they could start the project about a year ago. Kelli shares, He told me to wait until he got back to help, so I did what anyone would doI started out to do them by myse...

With the weather getting warmer and the sun shining brighter many of us are spending a great deal of time outdoors. I am barefoot more often than not, especially when Im outside. The other day while I was walking down a path in the woods I came very close to stepping on a water snake while it was peacefully sunbathing.
I must admit I was startled and so was the poor snake. Good thing they typically take off when encountered by a human. Its important to know the snakes in your area especially if you love being outdoors. Its good to remember that were not the only ones enjoying the sunshine! We must coexist with on this planet. If you havent noticed this article is going to cover some of the most common venomous snakes in the US and their not-so-venomous look-a-likes.
Top Image: Diamondback Rattlesnake; Bottom Image: Gopher Snake
The Eastern Diamondback is located in Eastern and Southeastern states and the Western Diamondback is located in Southwestern desert land. You can find them hanging out in places like dry pine flatlands, sandy woodlands, and in coastal scrub habitats. The western species can be found in grassy plains and rocky hillsides. Some of their look-a-likes are the gopher snake, bull, and pine snakes.
Leaders from across the globe met in Hamburg, Germany for the 12th G20 Summit last week. Intended as a means to discuss issues of global significance, this year's event focused on trade, the ongoing refugee crisis, counter-terrorism, and women's workplace rights. In addition to presidents, prime ministers, and chancellors, the summit attracted 1000 GESTALTENa collective composed of people from the fields of art, crafts, and communicationto the city, where 1,000 of its clay-covered members marched in the street.
Using the G20 Summit as a platform for their protest, the group executed a 2-hour-long performance art piece. The unique spectacle featured a large group of individuals doused in dust. This fascinating effect turned everything from their suits to their skin grey, giving them a zombie-like, ghostly appearance intended to represent societal oppression. Thus, while covered in this symbolic substance, the protestors remained silent and somber. However, later in the performance, they shed their dusty garments and solemn expressions, revealing colorful t-shirts and smiling faces.
According to 1000 GESTALTEN, this piece acted as a call for both attention and solidarity. We cannot wait until change happens from the world's most powerful, we have to show political and social responsibilityall of usnow! a spokesman for the collective said in a statement. Our campaign is a further symbol for the fact that many people do not want to put up with the destructive impact of capitalism any longer. What will save us in the end is not our account balance but someone who will offer their holding hand.
Artists, musicians, fashion designers, photographers, novelists there are so many different types of creatives out there. The arts elicit such admiration around the world from the general public for the ability to create something so brilliant, yet so intrinsic. As outsiders, people often seem baffled. How did they do that? I cant do that.
But that is exactly what creativity is: seeing the possibilities, and turning them into art. While some see something and ask how it came to be, creatives spend their time seeing what could be.
Psychologists have long been trying to measure creativity, often doing so by using divergent thinking tasks, in which you must create as many uses as possible for mundane objects.
It is those who can see numerous and diverse objects that are considered more creative than those who can only see a few common things.
For instance, I remember taking a creativity test in elementary school. One question showed an image of a girl too short to reach the shade on a door window to pull it down. The question asked me to draw as many solutions as possible for the little girl to reach the shade. Students drew rockets on the bottom of the girls feet, springs, and so on. Others simply drew a chair.
According to science, among the five major personality traits we behold, there is one that drives our creativity. This is called openness to experience, or openness. Openness is believed to be the best predictor of performance on divergent thinking tasks. It also predicts real-world creative achievements, and engagement in everyday creative pursuits.
While some people are fine assuming a chair is just a chair, or a rocket can only be used for space, others have an innate curiosity that drives them to examine things from all angles, resulting in higher openness.
Regarding research on the matter, Luke Smillie, Senior Lecturer in Personality Psychology, University of Melbourne and Anna Antinori, PhD candidate, University of Melbourne, conducted a study published in the Journal of Research in Personality that found open people, along with bringing a different perspective to things, also genuinely see thi...

Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) appears to be a man with way too much time on his hands. Either that, or he has grown temporarily bored with promoting the disproven conspiracy theories of Russian hacking.
Something is obviously amiss. What other explanation can there be for the Senators recent ridiculous campaign to force the FDA to begin regulating chocolate?
Schumer launched his initiative on Saturday in order to enlist the FDA in a fight to regulate snortable chocolate powder that is being used by some in clubs for euphoria and energy.
Schumer specifically targeted products like Coco Loko whose product is marketed as raw cacao snuff. The product includes powder that is made from raw cacao beans which contain caffeine.
A new study shows chemotherapy can cause malignant cancer cells to spread throughout the body increasing the risk of fatality from the disease.
Chemotherapy can increase aggressivity in cancer, causing malignant cells to migrate and triggering more dangerous tumors thereby also increasing the diseases fatality researchers in the United States found.
The blood vessels of patients receiving chemotherapy drugs have more entry points through which cancer cells can get into the blood flow and disperse throughout the body, scientists report today in Science Translational Medicine. In mice with breast cancer, chemotherapy shrinks the primary tumor but boosts the number of cancer cells in the lungs and circulating the body.

Saudi Arabia is 'at the top of the list' of countries exporting extremist Islam to the UK, according to a new Henry Jackson Societys report. The Henry Jackson Society is a think tank and policy-shaping force that fights for the principles and alliances which keep societies free working across borders and party lines to combat extremism, advance democracy and real human rights, and make a stand in an increasingly uncertain world.
The report claims there is a "clear and growing link" between Islamist organizations in receipt of overseas funds, hate preachers and Jihadist groups promoting violence. The Henry Jackson Society, a foreign affairs think-tank, called for a public inquiry into the role of Saudi Arabia and other Gulf nations, BBC reported. The report's release comes at a time when Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt are all accusing Qatar of supporting extremism - a charge the report says is hypocritical.
The Home Office report into the existence and influence of Jihadist organizations, commissioned by former Prime Minister David Cameron in 2015, has reportedly yet to be completed amid questions as to whether it will ever be published. Annual bilateral trade is worth billions of pounds, UK exports to Saudi Arabia, notably in defense, employ thousands of people in both countries, and there is close co-operation on counter-terrorism. The alliance between UK and its Gulf Arab partners has economic and security benefits, according to Theresa May, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
The UK's Saudi Arabian embassy says the claims are "categorically false." In a statement, the Saudi embassy in London said any accusations that the kingdom had radicalized "a small number of individuals are baseless and lack credible evidence." It added: "We do not and will not con...

WINGS DAO to earn 1% of all Indorse tokens for price discovery and social promotion
Singapore July 10, 2017 Indorse, the decentralized professional network on Ethereum, and WINGS, the Ethereum-based price discovery and social promotion DAO, have announced that Indorse intends to use the WINGS platform for crowd-powered valuation and promotion, and for its bounty application for community engagement.
Indorse can be likened to a decentralised LinkedIn and Instagram, wherein every claim in your profile will be validated by the peers. Users have a chance of earning through this process. The platform will share most of the revenue with users.
Eddy Travia, CEO of Coinsilium Group which recently invested S$100k in Indorse, said, This is a new and game-changing model in a multi-billion-dollar social media industry and we are confident that Indorse has the requisite skills and talent to propel Indorse to become one of the worlds most popular decentralised social platforms.
Since June 2017 WINGS DAO has forecasted and promoted several funding campaigns which have raised in excess of $150 million. WINGS The Blockchain Crowdfunding DAO serves as a platform where WINGS holders can evaluate upcoming ICOs, forecast the amount a certain project is about to raise during its funding campaign and share projects with their social networks. The wisdom of crowds is recognized as one of the most accurate ways to forecast future events, WINGS harnesses forecast markets and crowds specifically for Ethereum ICOs.
We are pleased to have the talented team at Indorse choose WINGS as the choice partner for assisting them in pricing their crowdfund and for engaging the cryptocurrency community with our bounty application, said Stas Oskin, WINGS Core Developer, Many new possibilities for decentralized applications...

Imgur user SharkswithFrigginLazerBeams shared this story about a friend who lives in a gated community and has a racist neighbour who constantly calls security on him because he isnt white.
My friend lives in an older gated community that maybe doesnt get much exposure to non-whites. His mom is Portuguese/Japanese and father is Swedish/German
when he walks his dogs it tends to manifest (security guards) asking Sir, can I help you?, Do you live here? or Do you realize youre tresspassing? as he calmly points out his house and dock in the distance.
The man found out which of his neighbours kept calling security, so used this cake as a passive-aggressive peace offering and left it on her doorstep.
And the woman saw the error of her ways, made a full apology and now the two are best friends. Just kidding!
The lady then left a homophobic letter (he is not straight, but lowkey about it) which must have triggered the embrace of his newfound, externally-imposed heritage enough to craft this beauty, which he placed in her mailbox.
So if at first you dont succeed, try a cupcake with whore written on it.

Federico Viticci and John Voorhees have a podcast called AppStories which I quite like. This particular episode is an interview with David Lawrence, the mastermind behind Rehearsal, an app that is used by top Broadway and Hollywood actors (like Kevin Bacon, Clark Gregg Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Avengers, etc.) to learn their lines.
This is a fascinating listen. One takeaway is that the acting community has settled on iOS as an unofficial standard, enough of one that Rehearsal has never been ported to Android.
Side note, David Lawrence played the Puppetmaster for three seasons on the original Heroes series. Heres a link to the interview . Enjoy.

Since ancient times, the third eye had been revered by all kinds of cultures. Today, we know it as the pineal gland, but it is still called the third eye in the spiritual realm. The third eye is viewed as a spiritual sign representing our capability to conquer all kinds of challenges in daily life by tapping into our inner wisdom.
But there is much more to the third eye than that. In most Eastern traditions, the third eye is undoubtedly real; a thing that anybody can perceive and obviously feel if they have a strong sense of self and mindfulness. It is what is often referred to as the connection between our body and our spirit.
When we meditate with any consistency, the third eye opens and your inner guide becomes stronger and a more present guiding force in your life.

Berlin based urban art and architecture Studio URMA spend some intense time in Lisbon where they realized a new project and urban intervention named All About Mistakes. Studio URMA developed a computer generated pattern that is influenced by urban structures and used as street art. For the project they made a solo show, screen prints and a bigger mural. In the age of global digital-social networking in which we all partake, Studio URMA, in the present work, seeks to confront the inception and manipulation of information. Thinking back to our childhood, everyone might remember playing a game of whisper down the lane which has the children form a circle or a line. The first one thinks of a word or phrase she then whispers into the ear of the next who silently passes it on until the message reaches the last child in line. He will recite openly what the silent post delivered to him. The jibberish that comes out at the end naturally causes laughter. Relaying this principle to the flood of information of news media and its consumption, we might realize that information, from the moment of its inception, moves in a kind of loop until it reaches us. Making way for a parallel medical system based on

Has Big Pharma had its heyday? We think so. Its an industry borne out of a business model thats more or less dependent on patented, new-to-nature compounds. The pipelines drying up and the dire consequences of taking products required to be different in form and function from those to which our bodies have adapted over millions of years are increasingly recognised by the public. The publics also waking up to the fact that these side effects arent a necessity of healthcare per se theyre a by-product of Big Pharmas business model.
Its broken, fix it
A glance at Big Pharmas top selling drugs, such as oncologics (anti-cancer), antidiabetics, pain, autoimmune diseases, anti-hypertensives, mental health and lipid regulators (for heart disease), shows most drugs dont do what they say on the tin. Back in 2003, the late Dr Allen Roses, then vice-president of genetics at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) told a shocked London meeting of health experts, researchers and journalists that, The vast majority of drugs more than 90 per cent only work in 30 or 50 per cent of the people. The journal BMJ Clinical Evidence has since evaluated around 3000 medical treatments and currently finds that only 11% have been proven to be of benefit to patients. And thats before you consider that properly prescribed drugs are one of the leading causes of preventable death.
Tentacles and revolving doors
Perhaps we shouldnt be surprised, given the well-exposed revolving door between the drug companies and government regulators. Contrary to the publics expectations and medical establishment fanfares over drugs having been confirmed as efficacious through elaborate and costly randomised controlled trials or RCTs this is far from always the case.
The drug companies, over the last half century or so, have influenced medical training and continue to regard family physicians and general practitioners (GPs), the first line of contact with the public, as sales reps for their businesses. These docs are skilled at drug prescribing, but theyre less skilled at knowing which of the multitude of factors in a patients life need changing to help them manage or recover from their chronic disease of choice. Those who have the required knowledge often lack the time to do justice to such multi-factorial, non-pharmaceutical approaches that are the domain of naturo...

You always know when youve got a stomach ulcer. Theres a sharp burning sensation in your stomach that simply refuses to go away, making certain foods unbearable and eating in general a whole lot less enjoyable. If youve got a stomach ulcer, you want it gone fast.
What are stomach ulcers?
Stomach ulcers, more appropriately known as gastric ulcers, are sores or lesions that develop on the inner lining of the stomach. Think of your stomach lining as the non-stick coating on your frying pan. With everything going well, the non-stick coating remains unharmed and your food slides off easily and without sticking to the bottom. If you scratch the nonstick surface with something abrasive, however, the non-stick coating begins to flake off, exposing the vulnerable inner layer of the pan to food and, quite frankly, ruining your Sunday banana pancakes.

A Harvard immunologist has written an open letter explaining why unvaccinated children pose no risk to their vaccinated counterparts.
Tetyana Obukhanych, PhD, is the author of the book Vaccine Illusion. She has studied immunology in some of the worlds most prestigious medical institutions. She earned her PhD in Immunology at the Rockefeller University in New York and did postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA and Stanford University in California.
My name is Tetyana Obukhanych. I hold a PhD in Immunology. I am writing this letter in the hope that it will correct several common misperceptions about vaccines in order to help you formulate a fair and balanced understanding that is supported by accepted vaccine theory and new scientific findings.
Do unvaccinated children pose a higher threat to the public than the vaccinated?
It is often stated that those who choose not to vaccinate their children for reasons of conscience endanger the rest of the public, and this is the rationale behind most of the legislation to end vaccine exemptions currently being considered by federal and state legislators country-wide. You should be aware that the nature of protection afforded by many modern vaccines and that includes most of the vaccines recommended by the CDC for children is not consistent with such a statement. I have outlined below the recommended vaccines that cannot prevent transmission of disease either because they are not designed to prevent the transmission of infection (rather, they are intended to prevent disease symptoms), or because they are for non-communicable diseases. People who have not received the vaccines mentioned below pose no higher threat to the general public than those who have, implying that discrimination against non-immunized children in a public school setting may not be warranted.
A poem by Aboriginal writer and performer Steven Oliver which confronts Australian racism, hypocrisy, fragility and privilege has climbed to almost two million views on Facebook.
Oliver performed Real two years ago at the 2015 National NAIDOC Awards ceremony in Adelaide. The event was broadcast by National Indigenous Television (NITV), and the footage was shared on their Facebook page. Its been growing a fan-base ever since.

See what freezing lemons can do and you will do this forever!
They are incredibly healthy and offer countless health benefits, as they strengthen the health in various ways.
They are also high in lemonoids, which prevent the growth and development of cancers and tumors in the case of breast cancer.
Studies have shown that the lemon peel contains twice as many vitamins as the fruit itself, and it has anti-cancer, antibacterial, antiparasitic, and antifungal properties.
Breast cancer is one of the most common tumor types, and metastasis greatly increases the risk of death from this disease. By studying the process of intravasation or entry of cells into the vasculature, Karagiannis et al. discovered that, in addition to killing tumor cells, chemotherapy treatment can also increase intravasation.
Groups of cells collectively known as tumor microenvironment of metastasis (TMEM) can serve as gateways for tumor cells entering the vasculature, and the authors discovered that several types of chemotherapy can increase the amounts of TMEM complexes and circulating tumor cells in the bloodstream. The researchers also determined that a drug called rebastinib can interfere with TMEM activity and help overcome the increased risk of cancer cell dissemination.
Researchers based in the United States have determined that chemotherapy, the main option used to treat cancer patients of all walks, might be making the situation worse. The emphasis of the study focused on those with breast cancer. Chemotherapy, as the study found, could increase the risk for metastasis.

Pachgai Khera village is just 20 km from Agra, where tourists sip bottled water as they gaze at the Taj. But the fluoride-laden groundwater that the villagers are forced to drink leaves them crippled and bent.
The water they drink poisons their bones. Scores of people in Pachgai Khera, a village of some 500 residents, some 20 kilometres from Agra and off National Highway 44, are bent over or have their limbs twisted at the joints. Many have mottled or darkened teeth. Growing children are stunted in their teens, their studies and play halted, their movement and confidence impaired by twisted limbs and dwarfism. Cataract is common. Every other person, even if not deformed, complains of joint aches. Its the same in the neighbouring villages of Patti Pachgai and Rohta. The culprit: fluorosis, caused by long-term consumption of water with too much fluoride. The permissible limit for fluoride in water is 1 ppm (part per million); the health department of Uttar Pradesh found that fluoride levels in groundwater in the region is 3.5-4.5 ppm. This is caused by fluorspar and fluorite deposits in the soil that dissolve in groundwater.
The only solution is to have safe water piped or transported to this village. If bringing water to the area is difficult, deep boring should be done. Water obtained from 500 feet deep will be far better than what is obtained from shallow wells, says Dr BS Yadav, the chief medical officer for Agra district.
Villagers say that, despite representations to the administration, nothing is being done. No one is listening, says Chetna Kumari, an accredited social health activist (ASHA) of Pachgai Khera. And the staff at the health centre hardly ever visit the patients. Now, even the villagers are not bothered about treatment. They say its their destiny.
