Could 16 and 17 year olds have a say in the marriage law postal survey? "IndyWatch Feed Allaunews"

Could over 47, 000 16 and 17 year olds who have made an application to be on the Electoral Roll, to have practical effect when they turn 18, be entitled to a say in the ABS marriage law survey?

While 16 and 17 year olds are barred from voting, they may currently make a claim to be on the electoral roll, and would be considered to be on the roll, other than for the purpose of an election.

The Treasurers direction for the postal survey defines elector as:

       elector means a person:

(a)    enrolled on the Commonwealth electoral roll at the end of 24 August 2017; or

(b)   who has made a valid application for enrolment on the Commonwealth electoral roll before the end of 24 August 2017.

The Electoral Act permits 16 and 17 year olds to make a claim to be on the Electoral Roll. Section 100 states:

(1)  A person who:

                     (a)  has turned 16, but is under 18, years of age; and

                   (b)  would be entitled, in respect of residence at an address, to be enrolled for a Subdivision if he or she were 18 years of age;

may send or deliver a claim to have his or her name placed on the Roll for that Subdivision to the Electoral Commissioner.

Section 93 then ensures that people who have made a claim but are under 18 cannot vote until they turn 18.

But the wording does establish a position that these under 18 year olds are on the Roll they just cannot vote.

 (3)  An elector:

                     (a)  whose name has been placed on a Roll in pursuance of a claim made under section 100; and

                    (b)  who has not attained 18 years of age on the date fixed for the polling in an election;

is not entitled to vote at that election..........

Women-in-Tech-Kolumne bei Bloomberg. Money Quote:

I came into work one Monday morning and joined the guys at our work table, and one of them said What did you do this weekend?

I was in the throes of a brief, doomed romance. I had attended a concert that Saturday night. I answered the question with an account of both. The guys stared blankly. Then silence. Then one of them said: I built a fiber-channel network in my basement, and our co-workers fell all over themselves asking him to describe every step in loving detail.

At that moment I realized that fundamentally, these are not my people. I liked the work. But I was never going to like it enough to blow a weekend doing more of it for free. Which meant that I was never going to be as good at that job as the guys around me.

Thinking back to those women I knew in IT, I can't imagine any of them would have spent a weekend building a fiber-channel network in her basement.

Im not saying such women dont exist; I know they do. Im just saying that if they exist in equal numbers to the men, its odd that I met so very many men like that, and not even one woman like that, in a job where all the women around me were obviously pretty comfortable with computers. We cant blame it on residual sexism that prevented women from ever getting into the field; the number of women working with computers has actually gone down over time. And I find it hard to blame it on current sexism. No one told that guy to go home and build a fiber-channel network in his basement; no one told me I couldnt. Its just that I would never in a million years have chosen to waste a weekend that way.

ARD halt.

Rethinking conservation funding models in Africa (commentary) "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Conservation in sub-Saharan Africa faces monumental challenges. Rapidly growing human populations and resource consumption are creating growing pressures on land, water and other natural systems. Weak governance coupled with market demands means that illegal use of natural resources- from fisheries, to timber, to elephant ivory- is a major driver of over-exploitation. Ultimately, effective and durable conservation efforts require major investments in protecting large landscapes through government, community, and private institutions, and in improving governance at multiple levels. A key to meeting the challenges to effective conservation at scale is providing resources that enable creative and effective conservation organizations to deliver lasting results. Much of the discussion in conservation focuses on the limited amounts of funding available-. However, an important, but less discussed, issue is how funding is delivered and accessed. Recently, we brought together funders and conservationists working in Africa, to discuss funding approaches that can achieve greater impact on the ground. Here we draw on this gathering to summarize both challenges with existing funding models and possibilities for addressing those.  Pair of orphaned elephant calves at a rescue center in Kenya. Photo by Rhett A. Butler for Mongabay. Existing Challenges Lasting and effective conservation work depends heavily on innovative and capable local organizations that can develop new solutions and take them to scale. African conservation organizations, like organizations working for social and environmental change anywhere in the world, require enough funding to be creative, invest in their teams, and grow, and funding designed to increase on-the-ground impact. That means

The American pika: A case study in wildlife acclimating to climate change "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Research published in the journal Frontiers in Ecology and the Environment last month that examines how wildlife adapts to the impacts of global climate change focuses on the American pika, a small, tailless mammal that exhibits a range of adaptive behavioral changes, as a case study. The authors of the study note that there are a few primary responses to climatic variability available to animals in the wild: move, adapt, acclimate, or die. When acclimate is a species response, that will usually require the species to adapt its behavior to the new climatic conditions it finds itself facing. Behavioral flexibility allows animals to rapidly cope with changing environmental conditions, and behavior represents an important component of a species adaptive capacity in the face of climate change, the authors write. However, there is currently a lack of knowledge about the limits or constraints on behavioral responses to changing conditions. In addition to looking at the American pikas behavioral responses, the researchers evaluated close to 200 peer-reviewed studies that documented behavioral responses to climate change in six animal taxa: amphibians, birds, fish, invertebrates, mammals, and reptiles. Because behavioral responses can be observed in a much shorter timeframe than other responses, like range shifts or population declines due to falling birth rates and rising mortality, they could potentially provide something of an early warning sign about the impacts of climate stressors, the researchers note. The research team, led by Erik Beever of the the U.S. Geological Surveys Rocky Mountain Science Center in Bozeman,

New study: Climate change shifts timing of floods in Europe "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

When rivers flood, the results can be devastating, ruining crops, disrupting ecosystems and destroying homes. The UN estimates that we lose $104 billion a year to swelling rivers. Understanding how climate change alters flooding is critical, but until now, researchers havent been able to home in on discernible patterns over large geographic areas. Recently, however, a team of 46 scientists took a new approach to this question, looking at when the floods occurred in the course of a year. It led them to a qualified conclusion: Climate change has impacted flood timing in Europe in the past 50 years, but it did so in different ways, in different parts of Europe, said Gunter Blschl, a hydrologist at the Vienna University of Technology, at a press conference. Blschl is the lead author of a study published in the August 11 issue of the journal Science. August 2005 flood in Tirol, Austria. Photo credit: ASI / Land Tirol / BH Landeck Climate scientists have long suspected that the effects of the warming on the Earth would show up in the flooding of rivers. They know that climate change impacts snowmelt, rainfall and soil moisture important contributors to the flooding of waterways. But previous studies focused on measuring flood sizes, which can fluctuate as a result of deforestation, land use change, or the way humans alter the course of rivers. That has made it difficult to determine whether changes to river flooding could be attributed to climate change. The timing of these floods

Plastic Fantastic? Indonesia plans to turn waste into road tar "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Indonesia has a serious plastic waste problem. According to the countrys environment ministry, Indonesians consume a million plastic bags per minute, and rank second in the world (behind China) for dumping plastic into the sea. Plastic waste lines roadsides and river banks, and has devastating effects on marine life. The unsightly mess also threatens to ruin Indonesias tourism industry, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan told reporters earlier this year. In response, the government has pledged to devote $1 billion per year to reducing plastic and other marine waste by 70 percent, a commitment reiterated by President Joko Widodo at the recent G-20 meeting. In addition to public education campaigns and a pilot program introducing charges for plastic bags, the government is rolling out a new waste management strategy: turning discarded plastic into road-building material. So-called plastic roads which add shredded, melted plastic waste to the road-tar mix are touted as being stronger, cheaper and more durable than conventional roads, while also providing a solution for disposing of tons of plastic that would otherwise sit in landfills or clog waterways. Some environmentalists, however, are skeptical, claiming that the environmental benefits of such roads are overstated, while the overall approach fails to deal with the root problem of over-consumption of single-use plastic. Brazilian firm wants to build new dams in Amazons Aripuan basin "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Intertechne Consultores wants to build two more there, plus one on the Roosevelt River, which could ultimately provide power to new diamond mines, should they be allowed in indigenous territory. Photo credit: Hakas photos via VisualHunt / CC BY-ND A Brazilian company, Intertechne Consultores, has asked Aneel, the federal Agency for Electric Energy, to authorize viability studies to build three new dams in the Aripuan river basin the Sumama and Quebra Remo dams along the Aripuan River itself and the Inferninho dam along its tributary, the Roosevelt River. The company provides consulting, engineering and construction management services for hydroelectric dams and has worked on several dams in the Amazon, including the controversial Belo Monte dam. The Aripuan basin is considered one of the best-preserved regions in Amazonia with a high level of endemic plants and animals. While there are, as yet, no dams on the Roosevelt River, there are already four on the Aripuana, which is a tributary of the Madeira river, which flows north from Bolivia to join the Amazon at Itacoatiara. One of these existing dams Dardanelos has been controversial. In 2010, its builders dynamited a cemetery belonging to the Arara indigenous group, providing a foretaste of the controversy that erupted a few years later when a river rapids sacred to the Munduruku was blasted away to construct the Teles Pires dam in the Tapajs watershed. UK counter-terrorism effort actively undermined by Prevent critics, says home secretary "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

Prevent, the British governments counter-radicalization strategy, should not be viewed negatively, Home Secretary Amber Rudd insists, despite accusations it is highly intrusive and disproportionately targets Muslims. In an interview with the Rupert Murdoch-owned Sun tabloid, Rudd said the governments counter-terrorism efforts are being actively undermined by the critics of the Prevent program, who accuse the government of unnecessarily invasive surveillance methods. Stopping people committing appalling acts of terror is something we should all want. It should go without saying, said the Tory Home Secretary. Yet there are some who actively seek to undermine the Prevent program without offering any meaningful alternatives. They say it is about spying. Third of private rented homes fail basic health and safety standards, new analysis finds "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

The extent of the crisis facing Britains private renters is revealed today as new analysis shows millions of tenants are living in homes that contain dangerous safety hazards and have been deemed unfit for habitation under Government standards. Almost a third (29 per cent) of homes rented from private landlords fail to meet the national Decent Homes Standard meaning they either contain safety hazards or do not have acceptable kitchen and bathroom facilities or adequate heating according to exclusive analysis by The Independent. In total, 1.4 million households containing several million people are currently living in unsafe or unsuitable rented accommodation almost 20,000 more than in 2013. While local councils and social housing landlords have a legal obligation to act if their homes are deemed to be substandard, there are far fewer obligations on private landlords. Homelessness in Britain to rise 76% over next decade, charity warns "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

Nearly a quarter of a million people are experiencing acute forms of homelessness across Britain, with rough sleeping set to rise by 76 percent by 2026 unless the government takes serious long-term action, the homelessness charity Crisis has warns. About 9,100 people were sleeping rough in 2016 at any one time, while 68,300 were sofa surfing, 19,300 were living in unsuitable temporary accommodation, and 37,200 were living in hostels, the research by Heriot-Watt University for the charity says. A further 26,000 were living in other circumstances, with 8,900 sleeping in tents, cars or on public transport, more than 12,000 living in squats, and 5,000 in womens refuges or night shelters. The report says that at any one point last year, an estimated 236,000 people were experiencing a form of homelessness in Britain, including 50,000 children. Without action, the most acute forms of homelessness are likely to keep climbing, with overall numbers forecast to rise by more than a quarter (26.5 percent) over the next 10 years to 202,200 in 2026, the report says. GMO scientists just created 'doomsday crops' containing RNA fragments that intentionally cause mass infertility "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

As advocacy against conventional GMO crops continues to grow, it comes as no surprise that the biotech industry has been doing its best to develop a new way to modify crops. One of the top concerns about current modification techniques is the transgenic component which allows crops to be engineered to produce different proteins that would repel pests or be toxic to insects. Understandably, many people have drawn attention to concerns about the safety of consuming such proteins. Activists have long noted that these engineered proteins used to kill insects could be toxic to humans as well, or at the very least, spark allergic reactions in some people. And it seems that GMO scientists have realized that they cannot win the fight when it comes to transgenic crops: People dont want them. But, unfortunately, theyve come up with a new type of GMO crop: fragmented RNA crops. As Ralph Bock, a director at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Plant Physiology in Germany explains, The objections to transgenic proteins involve concerns about their possible toxicity or allergenicity to humans, but with the RNA interference strategy theres no protein that is made, just some extra RNA. Bock also co-authored a study on the new GMO crop strategy. The purpose of the fragmented RNA in these newly modified crops is to disable insects, by either inducing death or infertility. Lending to business awakens "IndyWatch Feed Allaunews"

Business lending bounces

Lending finance displayed some solid 'bouncebackability', jumping by +8.3 per cent to a 7-month high of $73.59 billion.

The rebound was driven by a bolshie +13.7 per cent uplift in commercial finance, while lending for renovations also trended up to their highest level in 7 years in June, helping to push total owner-occupier lending higher.

Commercial lending has now picked up positively, up by nearly +30 per cent from a year earlier.

No stress?

Reserve Bank Governor Lowe today pointed the finger at a recent inequality "scare campaign" noting that fewer households are experiencing financial stress than 15 years ago.

Interestingly enough, despite a small uptick in June, personal finance commitments are still plumbing the depths at levels not seen since a decade and a half ago - even in nominal terms - confirming that consumers have clearly been winding down non-housing loan debt in the prevailing low interest rate environment.

There are a couple of exceptions to this general rule, being higher borrowing for new cars - which are considerably cheaper than they used to be - and for renovations, for which I blame The Block (or more realistically, record stamp duty levies which necessarily discourage housing market mobility).

Congressman Asks A Question About Weed And Accidentally Exposes Tyrannical Drug War "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

During a meeting with the ONDCP, a Republican congressman asked a question that set off a conversation exposing the tyrannical nature of the drug war. The Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) met with members of Congress this week to discuss multiple issues when a Republican congressman asked a question that would expose the states immoral and tyrannical war on drugs in an accidental stroke of logic. Harold Watson Trey Gowdy III is a member of the Tea Party movement and the Republican Party and serves as a congressman from South Carolina. He is also the chairman of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. During the meeting with the ONDCP this week, Gowdy asked why marijuana was a schedule I drug. Schedule I drugs, substances, or chemicals are defined as drugs with no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse, the DEA claims. Given the mountains of evidence showing the beneficial nature of the cannabis plant, the DEAs claims are nothing short of asinine and tyrannical. Commercial crabber calls out Al Gore on FAKE SCIENCE, explains sea level hasnt changed at all since 1970 "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

In promotion of his latest film, An Inconvenient Sequel, former vice president and global warming activist Al Gore is still desperately trying to make the case that planet earth is heating up, and that only carbon taxes can fix it. But as per usual, he failed miserably during a recent CNN town hall with Anderson Cooper, during which a commercial crabber and local mayor explained that sea levels around his tiny island have remained the same for over half a century. James Eskridge oversees the day-to-day activities on Tangier Island, in Virginia, and hes been fishing crab there for decades. Hes quite familiar with the tides, the currents, and various other elements in and around the coastal terrain. And other than an ongoing problem related to erosion, in which the shorelines of Tangier Island are progressively disappearing due to constant waves and storms, he says that everything is exactly the same as its always been, at least as far as ocean levels are concerned. How Companies Like PepsiCo and McDonalds Are Pushing Indonesia's Endangered Elephants to Extinction "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

The Leuser Ecosystem on the island of Sumatra in Indonesia thrums with life. It is an ancient, 6.5 million acres of lush rainforest and steamy peat swamps, and because of its rich biodiversity, is one of the most important rainforests still standing today. Its clear rivers provide drinking water for millions of people and its lowland and mountainous rainforests are literally the last place on earth where Sumatran elephants, orangutans, tigers, rhinos and sunbears still coexist in the wild. Globally, we all depend on it for the climate regulating effects such a large carbon-sink can have. And yet, the Leuser Ecosystem is being actively destroyed for palm oil and other industries. Humanitarian crisis worsens in Gaza "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

The over 10 year-long blockade of Gaza is having a devastating impact on the lives of people living in the strip, affecting healthcare, water systems, and the ability to live and work.

A farmer is using irrigation which has been severely affected by the electricity crisis. Photo credit the Agricultural Development Association (PARC).Families in Gaza are living on as little as three hours of electricity per day. Gazas only power plant completely shut down in April due to lack of fuel and has barely been functioning since. In June, the Israeli Authorities halved the power supply to Gaza, at the Palestinian Authoritys request to reduce payments. Once again, ordinary Palestinians are suffering the consequences of an over 10 year-long blockade and ongoing political tensions. This is having a devastating impact on the daily lives of people, affecting healthcare, water systems and the ability to live and work.

The Culture and Free Thought Association, a Gaza based charity for children and young people, has said that the electricity situation has worsened since 2006 when Israeli Forces launched missiles at the power plant. They report that since then, electricity has been used as a measure of collective punishment in the Gaza Strip. Israeli human rights organisation BTselem, warns that the situation in Gaza will deteriorate further, making the area virtually unliveable.

Only 3% of the water in Gaza is suitable for consumption, with just 10% of the population having access to safe drinking water. This is due to high salinity and damaged sewage systems following repeated military offensives, which are now unable to function with the lack of electricity and are pumping raw sewage into the sea.

Signs that you are highly intuitive "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Like eye color, skin tone, your shade of hair, and body shape we all have mental and conscious characteristics unique to each of us. Our range of mental faculties and attunement to our immediate and larger environment is also as unique as our fingerprints. Every experience and impression you have ever encoded in your conscious is there influencing the current and next set of mental processes. As we grow to know ourselves better we also learn how we operate and how we process and make decisions.

Sometimes we are aware of how much we rely on intuition or do the opposite, and think things through. Where do you fall on the continuum? Do you have a slightly apparent sixth sense thats  got you out of trouble on some occasions, but you pretty much do life by trial and error? Or do you live your life tapped into a universal flow, and you are so highly intuitive that people think you are a practicing witch?

Some indications that your brainwaves are tuned into frequencies which others may not be as-conscious-of as you are:

  • Super-High Empathy
  • Deep sensitivity to your environment.
  • Frequent synchronicity and coincidence events around you
  • Depression for no reason
  • Panic episodes that are inexplicable or unprovoked, and unlike you

Why Empathy indicates  strong intuition

The receptive empathic state is very close, in terms of brain wave function, to being in a less alert and mentally focused state. In this almost gamma-like state of consciousness, we are able to process decisions based on our pre-conscious programming and the neural matching algorithm in our specific brain. Our minds are able to match current situations to any stored or entrained experiences and in a millisec...

Warning Theres A New Deadly Disease Worse Than HIV "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

by The Unknown But Not Hidden

First of all, you should know that this virus is mainly transmitted sexually (ETS), and it affect both women and men. According to the experts, this virus is responsible for cervical cancer, penis, mouth and anus cancer. The human papillomavirus (HPV) is actually a group of viruses that can affect the human skin, and there are over 100 different types of this virus.

This is explained in the National Cervical Cancer Coalition of the United States NCCC. In fact, certain types of HPV cause common warts on the hands and feet. Most types of HPV are harmless, do not cause any symptoms, and go away on their own.

Youll be shocked when we tell you that almost 40 types of HPV are known as genital HPV as they affect the genital area. The experts warn that up to 80% of females and males will be infected with at least one type of genital HPV at some time. Genital HPV types may be high-risk types that can cause cervical pre-cancer and cancer, or low-risk types that can cause genital warts and usually benign changes in the cervix.

This type of virus is easily spread through direct skin to skin contact. Anyone who has any kind of sexual activity involving genital contact could get genital HPV. That means its possible to get the virus without having intercourse. And, because many people who have HPV may not show any signs or symptoms, they can transmit the virus without even knowing it. A person can be infected with more than one type of HPV. The medical experts claim that many people get their first type of HPV infection within their first few years of becoming sexually active.

Be Very Afraid of Share Buybacks "IndyWatch Feed Allaunews"

  • Ouchalways know your downside
  • A resurging sector in the debt markets
  • Relax its all explained here with some deep insight from one of the financial worlds luminaries

Before we get down to business, last week my publisher and I recorded a video detailing the biggest industry disruption in Australia for 100 yearsand the huge opportunity coming out of it.

This morning we finally released it.

When you get a moment today, grab some headphones or earphones, and give it a watch. Itll be worth your while.

Nowjust when the Aussie market looked to be brewing for a bit of a run higher, the US market throws in its worst session since May.

The S&P500 was down 1.4% overnight (our time).

Lets see how Aussie stocks hold up today.

Earnings season rolls on. Results have been slightly choppy across the board. You have to feel for shareholders in ResApp [ASX: RAP].

The shares were absolutlely hammered on Wednesday. Down 78% on the close, and theyre unlikely to bounce back any time soon.

As a trader I know says, if the market gives you time to panic, its already too late. Its a good example of why risk management is the most important thing you can control as an investor.

Even Nick Scali took a 15% hit yesterday despite the fact the company posting a record net profit. Boss Anthony Scali suggested some store sales might slow. Cue sell-off. You have to know what type of investor you are there. If youre in it for the long-term, you can probably ride that one out.

Like I said, a bit choppy. Mind you, the banks seem to be doing ok. Commonwealth Bank logged a $9.9 billion profit earlier in the week.

And now NABs [ASX: NAB] latest trading update says cash profit is up and doubtful debts down.

$675 million for Peppertoo low?

You might remember I mentioned that non-bank lender Pepper Group [ASX: PEP] had received a takeover offer last month. There a question over whether it would get done.

Well, its now confirmed Peppers management are going for it.

Shareholders still need to approve the deal. Interestingly, investment group Perpetual hold a 12% stake in Pepper and will vote against it.

Perpetual is saying the $3.60 offer price undervalues the company. Im inclined to agree with them...

Saudi Arabia sentences senior Shia clergyman to 13 years in prison "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

A court in Saudi Arabia has sentenced distinguished Shia cleric Ayatollah Sheikh Hussein al-Radhi to 13 years in prison as the Riyadh regime presses ahead with its heavy-handed crackdown on members of the religious community. The Specialized Criminal Court in Riyadh passed the ruling on the 66-year-old clergyman on Thursday, Arabic-language and independent Yemenat news website reported. Sheikh Radhis relatives strongly condemned the court ruling, describing it as the application of the death penalty against the Shia cleric since he is already suffering from heart failure and cannot stand the harsh prison condition. Sheikh Radhi was arrested on March 21, 2016, after being surrounded by a group of Saudi police officers and militiamen in the middle of a street in the city of al-Umran. 10 Signs Your Energy Field & Chakras are Out of Whack "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

by Ruth Lera; Elephant Journal

When your chakras are aligned, you have the most direct access to Source, however you may define Source (within yourself, outside yourself, or both simultaneously). Just as you hold a glass under the tap so it can be filled, we align with Source by facing into it, turning our attention toward it, and opening our vessel in the most direct way possible to receive whatever we are seeking (or whatever Source has in mind). Aligning with Source should be a regular part of your practice whenever youre focused on manifestation. ~ Anodea Judith and Lion Goodman, Creating on Purpose

The other day I was visiting with some friends and we were talking about chakras and manifesting, when their 10-year-old son, who was listening to the conversation, interrupted us with this:

I dont believe in any of that stuff. What you see is what you see. I just file all of that crazy stuff in my mind as Feng Shui.

And I have to say, this little speech was pretty cute, coming at us from a face covered in freckles.

But here is the interesting thingwhether we believe in the reality of energy fields and chakras or we dont believe in the reality of energy fields and chakras, we are affected by their the reality just the same.

Murdering art dealer thought victim was an extraterrestrial "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

A Swiss art dealer is going to jail for more than 12 years after being found guilty of murdering a friend he believed to be an alien. The defendant, who was not named by the court but identified in the British press as 32-year-old Bennet von Vertes, said he was under the influence of a cocktail of drugs and alcohol at the time. Von Vertes was also found guilty on a separate charge of raping a former girlfriend two months prior to the attack, the ATS news agency reports. After a night out in Zurich, the pair were said to have returned to the villa in the early hours of the morning where they got into a fight. During the tussle, von Vertes stabbed his friend with a broken piece of glass before beating him to death with a candlestick holder. Von Vertes admitted the murder but insisted that hallucinations, brought about by a cocktail of cocaine and ketamine, made him believe his friend was an alien who was trying to kill him. Proof Surfaces Insurance Co Pays Massive Bonuses to Doctors for Vaccinating Babies "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

by Alex Pietrowski; Waking Times Here is a perfect example of the tactics that Big Pharma uses to incentivize doctors to push vaccines on the public. Insurance company Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) pays pediatricians $400 for EACH fully vaccinated child under the age of 2. This means that for every 100 vaccinated patients, the doctor gets a $40,000 bonus! Moreover, it is now very difficult to find a pediatrician who will accept a family who doesnt vaccinate. Even parents who partially vaccinate or follow a different schedule have a hard time finding a doctor. Heres why: doctors have to vaccinate a certain percentage of their patients or they dont get their bonus. BCBS says doctors need to vaccinate 63% of their patients to get the payout. BCBS outlines the incentive program for vaccinating babies in the BCBS doctor incentives booklet. Below is an image of the childhood immunization incentives page. The program specifies that patients under the age of 2 must receive 24 inoculations for the doctor to receive the $400 per-patient payout. Notice the list includes the flu vaccine, even though evidence suggests that the flu vaccine actually weakens the immune system long-term. Furthermore, during the 2012-2013 flu season, the flu vaccines effectiveness was found to be just 56 percent across all age groups reviewed by the CDC. Read more

Bad Movie Dunkirk Mirrors Trump's Korea Situation, 1748 "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

- Life Change Tea: Rid Your Body From Toxins! Good morning, Im still reporting on: Bad Movie Dunkirk Mirrors Trump's Korea Situation, 1748 Synopsis: Well, the weekend is upon us and I offered to take my wife to see a movie she really wanted to see and I really did not want to see Dunkirk. My premonitions on this dog of a movie proved correct although they dont always. However in this case describing this movie as a dog is wayyy to insulting to dogs. Rotten Tomatoes gave this two hours of torture a predictable 93%. These are people who love to see humans being tortured by fear of death and then dying. If you like up close and personal depictions of human suffering, this is the film for you. When I walked out of the theater, I mumbled no redeeming qualities. However, after thinking it over, on my 10-point usefulto-humanity scale I would give it a 1. It misses a zero ONLY because it points out the tragic mistake that the British people made in believing the peace-at-any price globalist mutterings of Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain, allowing Germany to take over the German-speaking region of Czechoslovakia without consequence. It was called the policy of appeasement. As a result, Germany was allowed to gather strength to take over Poland and eventually most of Western Europe and bomb London itself. Turnbull says Australia will join in the war, if North Korea attacks USA "IndyWatch Feed Allaunews"

Will Australia join in the war if Trumps USA attacks North Korea?

Australia will join the conflict if North Korea attacks the US: Malcolm Turnbull, SMH Fergus Hunter, 11 Aug 17, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has declared Australia would invoke the ANZUS security treaty for only the second time in its history in response to any attack by North Korea against the United States.

Mr Turnbull also pushed back against calls  including from former prime ministers Tony Abbott and Kevin Rudd  for Australia to develop a missile defence shield to protect the mainland from the threat of North Koreas nuclear weapons and long-range missile program.

The Prime Ministers commitment to assist the US caps off days of escalating tensions, with US President Donald Trump threatening to unleash fire and fury on the rogue state and the North Korean regime warning it would attack the US Pacific territory of Guam. The United States has no stronger ally than Australia. We have an ANZUS agreement and if there is an attack on Australia or the United States each of us will come to the others aid, Mr Turnbull told Melbourne radio station 3AW on Friday

After invoking ANZUS in 2001, Mr Howard said Australia would consult with th...

BBC News conceals part of a story on Hamas tunnels "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

On August 10th the BBC News website published a report titled Israel to speed up Gaza tunnel barrier.

Israel is to accelerate the building of a huge barrier along its boundary with Gaza aimed at preventing militants from tunnelling under the border.

The 64km (40-mile) long construction will reach a depth of 40m (131ft) below and 6m above ground, at a cost of 3bn shekels ($833m).

An Israeli army commander said the barrier should be completed in 2019.

Israel has sought to neutralise the threat of cross-border tunnels since its war with militants in Gaza in 2014.

The BBC apparently based that article on local media reports concerning a briefing given the previous day by the head of the IDFs southern command.

At a briefing on Wednesday, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Maj Gen Eyal Zamir said the hi-tech barrier would be completed, even at the risk of renewed conflict with Hamas.

Trump has taken us to the brink of nuclear war. Can he be stopped? "IndyWatch Feed Allaunews"

In previous standoffs, Trumps predecessors knew when to hold back. Now there is no such certainty, Irish Times, Jonathan Freedland, 1o Aug 17, his was the moment many Americans, along with the rest of the world, feared. This precisely this was what alarmed us most about the prospect of Donald Trump becoming president of the US. Not that he would hire useless people or that he would tweet all day or use high office to enrich himself and his family or that hed be cruel, bigoted and divisive though those were all concerns. No, the chief anxiety provoked by the notion of Trump in the White House was this: that he was sufficiently reckless, impulsive and stupid to bring the world to the brink of nuclear war.

Of course, cooler heads might soon prevail. China might find the diplomatic back-channel that persuades North Korea to step back from the current clash with Washington. The...

Super-heatwaves of 55C to emerge if global warming continues "IndyWatch Feed Allaunews" Heatwaves amplified by high humidity can reach above 40C and may occur as often as every two years, leading to serious risks for human health. If global temperatures rise with 4C, a new super heatwave of 55C can hit regularly many parts of the world, including Europe.

recently published study by the Joint Research Centre (JRC) the European Commissions science and knowledge service analyses the interaction between humidity and heat. The novelty of this study is that it looks not only at temperature but also relative humidity to estimate the magnitude and impact of heat waves.

It finds out that the combinations of the two, and the resulting heatwaves, leave ever more people exposed to significant health risks, especially in East Asia and Americas East Coast.

Warm air combined with high humidity can be very dangerous as it prevents the human body from cooling down through sweating, leading to hyperthermia. As a result, if global warming trends continue, many more people are expected to suffer sun strokes, especially in densely populated areas of India, China and the US.

In USA electricity customers pay for abandoned nuclear reactors "IndyWatch Feed Allaunews"

Nuclear not the answer, as consumers pay for abandoned reactors, REneweconomy, By Giles Parkinson on 9 August 2017  Barnaby Joyce and other pro-nuclear members of the Coalition and the numerous conservative commentators calling for nuclear instead of renewables should take note:

The so-called nuclear renaissance in the United States has had another major setback, with another two reactors under construction in South Carolina abandoned after costs spiralled out of control, leaving consumers holding the bill for plants that will never be completed.

The plug was pulled on the V.C. Summer nuclear project last week after $US9 billion had already already spent, and after it became clear that the original $US11.5 billion bill for the whole project would more than double to at least $US25 billion ($31 billion).

South Carolina consumers will be left holding the bill, and 20 per cent of their electricity rates will go to pay for something that will never be completed.

Critics say the decision heralds the demise of new nuclear in the US, and expect the Vogtle nuclear reactor project in Georgia to also collapse as its costs also surge.

The Vogtle reactors, also funded by consumers and taxpayer loans, are the only two reactors under construction in the US, out of the 31 once hailed as a sign of the industrys renaissance in the US.

1. A central bank sets the short-run interest rate and can choose to pay any rate on excess reserves to the commercial banks that it chooses.

2. The Australian dollar has appreciated recently against many key currencies. This has squeezed some of export industries (such as manufacturing) which are not enjoying a commensurate growth in world demand for their products. A cut in real wages is needed to restore international competitiveness in the industries that are under pressure.

3. If the nation is running a current account deficit of 2 per cent of GDP and the government runs a surplus equal to 2 per cent of GDP, then we know that at the current level of GDP, the private domestic sector is spending less than it is earning.

Plantations Were Prisons "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

Robert H. King and Albert Woodfox of the Angola 3 are issuing a call to everybody concerned about the human rights of US prisoners: We know the economic situation for African Americans, other minority communities, and poor whites is very difficult. However, if there is any way possible for you to get to the Millions for Prisoners Human Rights March in Washington DC on August 19, so that your voice can be heard, so that we can speak in one voice, please join us. Enough is Enough!

Albert Woodfox was released from prison in February, 2016 after over 43 years in solitary confinement. Robert King, the other surviving member of the Angola 3, spent 29 years in solitary confinement until his release in 2001. Along with personally traveling to Washington DC for the March on August 19, both King and Woodfox are currently working to spread the word and raise awareness about the upcoming event.

The August 19 March will gather near the White House, in Lafayette Park, at 12:00 Noon. The organizers seek to unite activists, advocates, prisoners, ex-prisoners, their family and friends, as well as all others committed to the fight to drastically reduce or eliminate prisons and the prison system, and replace them with more humane and effective systems. Our aim is to expose the prison industrial complex for what it is. We want to challenge the idea that caging and controlling people keeps communities safe.

Albert Woodfox emphasizes the importance of the March: This is an opportunity to bring to light a lot of stuff that has been kept in the dark about prisons and the judicial system. August 19 will give an opportunity for a mother, father or grandparents to speak about the horrors of their loved ones being in prison.

The impact of the US prison system on families is a central focus of the March, and is an issue Woodfox speaks directly to: If you consider the degrading and humiliating experiences that family members sometimes have to endure just to visit, in my opinion it has risen to the point now where the judge sends an individual to prison, he is also sentencing the whole family. IIMC Considers Imposing Civil Service Rules Barring Any Critique of Government "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

Indian Institute of Mass Communication. Credit: PTI

New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) is considering whether to adopt Central Civil Services (CCS) Conduct Rules for its faculty members, who termed it as a bid to gag them and an assault on academic freedom.

Three JD(U) MPs have also written to information and broadcasting minister Smriti Irani alleging that the administration of the state-run media school is politicising academic issues raised by the teaching staff.

The issue figures on the agenda of the institutes executive council (EC) meeting scheduled for August 11, where a decision may be taken to include code of conduct, professional ethics and disciplinary matters in the IIMCs bylaws.

The CCS Rules bar government servants from criticising any current or recent policy or action of the central government or a state government.

A committee was formed in 2016 to deliberate on the issue, which in its last meeting on July 28 framed its recommendations including that the IIMC may follow all rules of the central government wherever IIMC bylaws are silent.

Regarding the professional code of ethics and other issues, a comprehensive review of IIMCs bylaws may be done since about five decades have elapsed since they were adopted. For this, a...

Timothy Snyder talking: I guess the place to start would be with the quotation. Like the framers of the Constitution, Im not an American exceptionalist. Im a skeptic. Chinas New Social Credit System: A Digital, Dystopia Dictatorship Of Big Data, Mass Surveillance and Judgment "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

Chinas citizen score system goes full dystopia

What is Chinas Social Credit System?

The Government of China has been working with several large financial institutions to develop a supreme social credit system that will give each citizen a single number rating.

According to Chinese officials, the rating system is meant to measure an individuals overall trustworthiness. And unlike a traditional credit score, the new credit system will take into account much more than a persons banking history.

Utilizing national databases, scores will be determined using a variety of factors, like credit, age, job, health, academic performance and lifestyle. Also, its rumored things like not caring after your parents properly, criticizing the ruling party, inaccurate reporting or even minor traffic violations could lower scores.

The new system  which is set to be implemented by 2020 is still in the testing stages, with the Chinese government currently watching eight state-approved pilot projects. Each project is using arcane algorithms to create their own unique scoring system.

Eventually, the Chinese government would like to use these scores to rank everyone inside Chinas borders. Citizens with good scores will have an easier time getting access to certain privileges, like permission to travel abroad, their children into the best schools, a loan, a hotel room, a job, a date and more.. While individuals with lower scores, will be punished by the cold shoulder of society.

As scary as that may sound, the Chinese government is heavily invested in making their new social credit system a reality.
