Maldives Ambassador to the United States: Who Is Ali Naseer Mohamed "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

Ali Naseer Mohamed, a longtime member of his countrys diplomatic corps and a former Maldives foreign minister, presented his credentials as ambassador to the United States on July 21, 2017, after being appointed on June 28. He is also the non-resident ambassador to Canada, as well as Maldives permanent representative to the United Nations.

Mohamed was born November 2, 1969, in Gaddhoo, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, Maldives. He studied business administration at the University of Sydney, Australia, before earning an M.A. in diplomatic studies at the University of Leicester, in England.

Mohamed joined the Maldives Foreign Service in 1985 as an attach in the high commission at Colombo, Sri Lanka. He returned to the Maldives in 1991 as an administrative officer and was made protocol officer in 1994. In 1997, Mohamed was tapped to lead the ministrys research division and in 2001 was made assistant director for research.

Mohamed became assistant director in the Department of External Resources in 2003 and the following year coordinated international relief efforts in Maldives for the aftermath of the Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami. In 2005, Mohamed was appointed assistant director general in the Department of External Resources. He moved to the Political Affairs Directorate in 2007 as director general.

In 2008, Mohamed took time off to work on his Ph.D. in diplomatic studies at Australian National University in Canberra. He was back in the Foreign Relations Ministry in 2012 as an additional secretary in the Policy Planning Division. The following year, he was promoted to foreign secretary, serving until 2017. Speaking at the United Nations Human Rights Council on September 24, 2015, Mohamed made it clear that his government rejected the concept of freedom of religion for its citizens, as well as LGBT and non-traditional forms of families.

As a representative of a low-lying island nation, much of Mohameds focus in foreign relations has been to urge other nations to cooperate to reduce global warming.

Mohamed is married to Azeema Adam, who served as governor of the Maldives Monetary Authority until resigning in August 2017 to join her husband in the United States. She was criticized for inaction after the theft of almost $80 million from the Maldives state-owned tourism promotion company. The couple have a daughter and a son.

Deforestation in Cambodia linked to ill health in children "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Rapid deforestation in Cambodia is threatening the health of young children, concludes a new study published in the Lancet Planetary Health. Researchers have found that the loss of dense forest cover in Cambodia is associated with an increased risk of diarrhea, acute respiratory infection and fever in children younger than five years. This is alarming as deforestation has become a contributor to key child mortality factors in Cambodia, said co-author Roman Carrasco of the National University of Singapore (NUS). This study adds to the growing body of research which shows that clearing large swathes of forests can have serious consequences for human health. When Carrascos team analyzed health data from more than 35,000 households collected by the Cambodia Demographic and Health Surveys between 2005 and 2014, they found that loss of dense forest increased rates of diarrhoea, acute respiratory illness, and fever in children. For example, just a 10 percentage point increase in the loss of dense forest near the households was associated with a 14 percent increase in the rate of diarrhea among children. In contrast, a higher coverage of protected areas around the households was linked to a lower incidence of diarrhea and acute respiratory infection in children. It was surprising how clear the signal was all the conditions we were studying that we hypothesized could have a relationship with deforestation (diarrhea, acute respiratory infection, fever) clearly increased after losing dense forests, Carrasco said. Loss of forests can disrupt water cycle leading to water-borne diseases, and also

Reading stories of hate crimes committed in the last few years is stomach-churning. It revives nightmares of reporting in Gujarat 2002. A report we wrote called the Survivors Speak recorded the atrocities, rapes and genocide. Weve all read similar stories about Rwanda and Kosovo. Not just gory murders but gruesome, vile, heinous new methods of torturing victims. The selfie addicts cannot resist gleefully video recording their crimes. They delight in recording their victims last moments, the blood, the anguish, the pleading for their lives to be spared.

Its why Harsh Mander, former civil servant and activist writer, and his Karwan e Mohabbat, feel it is important to stop the spread of hate in any form. Suspicion, distrust and generic hatred for the other were not a part of the Indian psyche in spite of sporadic riots, even a decade ago.

Organics Discovery at Mars Gale Crater Hints at Existence of RNA and Ancient Life "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

By The Daily Galaxy

Because borates may play an important role in making RNAone of the building blocks of lifefinding boron on Mars further opens the possibility that life could have once arisen on the planet, said Patrick Gasda, a postdoctoral researcher at Los Alamos National Laboratory and lead author. Borates are one possible bridge from simple organic molecules to RNA. Without RNA, you have no life. The presence of boron tells us that, if organics were present on Mars, these chemical reactions could have occurred.

The discovery of boron at Mars Gale Crater gives scientists more clues about whether life could have ever existed on the planet, according to the paper, published today in the journal Geophysical Research Letters.RNA (ribonucleic acid) is a nucleic acid present in all modern life, but scientists have long hypothesized an RNA World, where the first proto-life was made of individual RNA strands that both contained genetic information and could copy itself. A key ingredient of RNA is a sugar called ribose. But sugars are notoriously unstable; they decompose quickly in water. The ribose would need another element there to stabilize it. Thats where boron comes in. When boron is dissolved in waterbecoming borateit will react with the ribose and stabilize it for long enough to make RNA.

We detected borates in a crater on Mars thats 3.8 billion years old, younger than the likely formation of life on Earth, said Gasda. Essentially, this tells us that the conditions from which life could have potentially grown may have existed on ancient Mars, independent from Earth.

The boron found on Mars was discovered in calcium sulfate mineral veins, meaning the boron was present in Mars groundwater, and provides another indication that some of the groundwater in Gale Cater was habitable, ranging between 0-60 degrees Celsius (32-140 degrees Fahrenheit) and with neutral-to-alkaline pH.

The boron was identified by the rovers laser-shooting ChemCam (Chemistry and Camera) instrument, which was developed at Los Alamos National Laboratory in conjunction with the French space agency. Los Alamos work on discovery-driven instruments like ChemCam stems from the Labora...

DeVos Embrace Of Predatory For-Profit Colleges Is Breathtaking "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

By David Halperin for Republic Report - Betsy DeVos, whose interest in education prior to the Trump administration seemed mostly focused on K-12 schools, has made her mark as Secretary of Education instead with a remarkably blatant embrace of the worst demands of the for-profit college industry. The reputation of that industry, which at its peak a few years ago had 10 percent of U.S. college students and was getting as much as $32 billion a year from taxpayers in student grants and loans, was in tatters after a decade of government and media investigations exposing abusive practices by many for-profit schools: deceptive and coercive student recruiting, sky-high prices, low spending on instruction, and terrible job placement outcomes, leaving former students across America with crushing loan debt and often without the jobs they sought. But instead of continuing the Obama Administrations increasingly determined efforts to protect students and taxpayers by holding predatory for-profit schools accountable, which was beginning to push schools to improve their ethics and quality...

Elon Musk Magically Extends the Battery Life of Tesla Vehicles Fleeing Hurricane Irma "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

(ZHE)  In what is either a generous act of charity or an unnerving example of the control Tesla exercises over the vehicles it producers, or perhaps both, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has magically unlocked the batteries of every Tesla in Florida to maximize the distance that people fleeing from Hurricane Irma can travel before stopping to refuel at one of the companys superstation charging centers.

Typically, these types of over-the-air upgrades can cost thousands if not tens of thousands of dollars.

But Musk is temporarily offering full battery capacity to all owners of Model S/X 60/60D vehicles with 75 kilo watt battery packs, according to Electrek, a blog that covers electric vehicles.

The upgrade will surely help Floridians who are still rushing to escape as the now category 3 storm makes its second landfall near Naples. The upgrade will last through Saturday.

As a Tesla spokesperson explained to Electrek, the company decided on the mass-unlocking strategy after a customer called and asked if the company could upgrade his battery because he was trying to flee the storm. Teslas Supercharger network is fairly extensive in Florida and most owners should be able to get by even with a Model S 60 (the shortest range option).

A Tesla Model S 60 owner in Florida told Electrek that his Tesla was getting 40 more miles without a charge after Tesla had temporarily unlocked the remaining 15 kilo watts of the cars software-limited battery pack.

The company says that a Tesla owner in a mandatory evacuation zone required another ~30 more miles of range to optimize his evacuation route in the traffic and they reached out to Tesla who agreed to a temporary access to the full 75 kWh of energy in the battery pack, an upgrade that has cost between $4,500 and $9,000 depending on the model and time of upgrade.

The company also decided to temporarily unlock other vehicles with the same software-lock battery packs in the region.

Teslas supercharger network is fairly extensive in Florida and most owners should be able to get by even with a Model S 60 (the shortest range option), but sometimes that 30 more miles of range can make a big difference.

Most of the supercharger stations in the state are still open:

Measuring security: Part 1 - Things that make money "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

If you read my previous post on measuring security, you know I broke measuring into three categories. I have no good reason to do this other than it's something that made sense to me. There are without question better ways to split these apart, I'm sure there is even overlap, but that's not important. What actually matters is to start a discussion on measuring what we do. The first topic is about measuring security that directly adds to revenue such as a product or service.

Revenue
The concept of making money is simple enough. You take a resource such as raw materials, money, even people in some instances. Usually it's all three. You take these resources then transform them into something new and better. The new creation is then turned into money, or revenue, for your
business. If you have a business that doesn't make more money than it spends you have a problem. If you have a business that doesn't make any money you have a disaster.

This is easy enough to understand, but let's use a grossly simplified example to make sure we're all on the same page. Let's say you're making widgets. I suppose since this is a security topic we should call them BlockWidgetChain. In our fictional universe you spend $10 on materials and people. Make sure you can track how much something costs, you should be able to determine how much of that $10 is materials and how much is people. You then you sell the BlockWidgetChain for $20. That means you spent $10 to make $20. This should make sense to anyone who understands math (or maths for you English speakers).

Now let's say you have a competitor who makes BlockChainWidgets. They're the same thing basically, but they have no idea how much it costs them to make BlockChainWidgets. They know if they charge more than $20 they can't compete because BlockWidgetChains cost $20. Their solution is to charge $20 and hope the books work out.

I've not only described the business plan for most startups but also a company that's almost certainly in trouble. You have to know how much you spend on resources. If you spend more than you're charging for the product that's a horrible business model. Most of security works like this unfortunately. We have no idea how much a lot of what we do costs, we certainly don't know how much value it adds to the bottom line. In many instances we cannot track spendi.........

Why Did World Trade Center Building 7 Fall? New Study Claims Govt Story False "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

Last Wednesday, Dr. J. Leroy Hulsey of the University of Alaska Fairbanks presented the findings and conclusion of his teams two-year engineering study evaluating whether fire caused the collapse of World Trade Center 7 on September 11, 2001.

Many 9/11 Truth researchers focus on the mysterious collapse of World Trade Center 7 (WTC7) as the smoking gun evidence that Americans were lied to about the attacks. WTC7 was not hit by a plane, yet it collapsed at 5:20 p.m. on Sept. 11, 2001. According to the National Institute of Standards and Technology, the collapse was caused by office fires leading to thermal expansion of the buildings supportive columns and girders.

Dr. Hulseys presentation, A Structural Reevaluation of the Collapse of World Trade Center 7, September 2017 Progress Report, detailed how his team eliminated fire as the cause of the collapse of the 47-storey building. Hulsey explained that NISTs report on the collapse found fires on floors 7 through 9, 11 through 14, 19, 22, 29, and 30. However, there is no evidence of fire below floor 7, Hulsey said.

Watch Hulseys presentation below:

You have to ask yourself lots of questions Where is the combustibility in this building? Did WTC7 collapse because of fires? Hulsey asked during his presentation. Our study shows that it did not collapse because of fires. This revelation matches what Hulsey told MintPress News in September 2016, when his teams preliminary finding was that fire did not produce the failure at this particular building, adding additional calculations are further substantiating the finding.

Dr. Hulsey and his team developed an AutoCAD drawing that they then used to create a virtual geography of the building. The research team first partnered with the non-profit Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth in May of 2015 to study of the collapse of WTC7. They did not release their final report in April 2017 as originally planned, but Hulsey said a draft report of the study will be released in October or November 2017 and will be open for public comment for a six-week period. I am still examining the progressive collapse. We thought we would be complete by the time announced but it is taking longer than I expected, Hulsey told MintPress. I simply am not going to release it until I am sure we are totally correct.

A final report will be published in early 2018 and submitted to peer-reviewed journals. It is my plan to provide the opportunity for public and technical input, a form of review and peer review, Dr. Hulsey stated. I will have it reviewed during this time frame. Once we have gone through that preliminary review; I will submit the findings to peer...

Top Eight Carcinogenic Food Additives and Ingredients Banned Nearly Everywhere Except in the US "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

By S.D. Wells

Theres one reason the United States has such loose regulations when it comes to allowing known carcinogens and health-crippling chemicals to be put in our most popular food products: Its a big bread winner for the pharmaceutical industry. Why? Its almost inevitable in America that once you start reeling from the effects of eating chemicals that you will visit a medical doctor, who will then prescribe chemical drugs to manage the symptoms of toxic food additive disorder.

You see, most countries around the world have a universal healthcare insurance system that provides relative equality of access, with fees set and maintained by a government committee. That means the government wants their citizens to be healthy in order to protect the people and the national budget. In America, however, the sicker the citizens get, the more money gets pocketed by the government, the sick care industry, and of course the toxic food industry, all of which have free reign over the US regulatory industries, such as the FDA, the CDC and the USDA.

That, my friends, is why its not a conspiracy theory that most conventional food in the USA is loaded with food toxins, including artificial flavors, colors, hormones, antibiotics, bleach, ammonia, conditioners, preservatives, industrial pollutants, insecticides and weedkiller. This is another reason why medical doctors in the USA are never trained or educated about nutrition in medical school. Why would a doctor trained to push chemical drugs for a living get training on how to help people eat foods that are chemical-free? It just wouldnt make sense to the insidious Ponzi scheme we know as chronic symptom-management healthcare today. Here come the eight known food poisons most of the world bans, except for the USA.

#1. Flame-retardant chemicals in drinks

Originally patented as a flame retardant, brominated vegetable oil (BVO) is a synthetic chemical that can be found in numerous popular drinks in the USA, including sodas and sports drinks. Would you consume a beverage that you knew contained a little bit of gasoline, kerosene or diesel fuel? Why not? Is that becau...

US Backed Kurds Set to Battle SAA for Oil Rich Area "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

Cutting to the chase- It's clear the PKK/YPG thugs backed by the US need Deir ez Zor for  the creation of Israel 2.0 aka Kurdistan. They need the resources to be viable. They need to DENY Syria access to their own resources in order to leave what will remain of Syria vulnerable , weak & dependent on the unlawfully, immorally created new territory. Water control and denial is also an issue -  Israel 2.0 has been being created in plain site. Employing the ruse of the 'fight against ISIS' as the smoke cover to ethnically cleanse and displace the resident populace.

Th need of the oil rich Syrian territory explains quite clearly why this operation by the US backed terrorist Kurd army is called  Jazeera Storm. Jazeera being the "familiar name for north-east Syria" which has been annexed and is controlled by the Kurds.. Hence it's a Kurdish storm come down to wreak havoc on Syria and her army.

The duelling battles for Deir el-Zour highlight the importance of the oil-rich eastern province, which has become the latest focus of the international war against IS, raising concerns of an eventual clash between the two sides.
The US-trained Deir el-Zour Military Council said it was calling its operation Jazeera Storm, after the familiar name for north-east Syria.
The Military Council is a part of the predominantly-Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which enjoys broad US military support.
The troops arrival to Deir el-Zour city brings Syrian forces and their allies a step closer to controlling the oil-rich eastern province and its capital bordering Iraq, a major boost for Tehrans growing influence in the area.
The region has some of Syrias largest oil fields, whose revenue is vital to the states dried coffers.

David Eisenbach, a Columbia University professor, said he will submit an amicus brief in a lawsuit filed by families of people killed in the World Trade Center attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

New evidence in a 9/11 lawsuit against the government of Saudi Arabia alleges the kingdoms embassy in Washington, DC, may have funded a test run for the deadly attacks in 2001, according to the New York Post.  Sean Carter, the lead attorney for the 9/11 plaintiffs, stated wihtout hesitation, Weve long asserted that there were longstanding and close relationships between al Qaeda and the religious components of the Saudi government.

Additionally the NY Post is reporting the following:

Two years before the airliner attacks, the Saudi Embassy paid for two Saudi nationals, living undercover in the US as students, to fly from Phoenix to Washington in a dry run for the 9/11 attacks, alleges the amended complaint filed on behalf of the families of some 1,400 victims who died in the terrorist attacks 16 years ago.

The court filing provides new details that paint a pattern of both financial and operational support for the 9/11 conspiracy from official Saudi sources, lawyers for the plaintiffs say. In fact, the Saudi government may have been involved in underwriting the attacks from the earliest stages including testing cockpit security

Citing FBI documents, the complaint alleges that the Saudi students ...

Are Elite Controllers a fantasy? Read this.

by Jon Rappoport

September 11, 2017

We rarely get a chance to see a smoking gun that proves elite controllers are running the show from behind the curtain.

Thats why there is a curtain.

So Im republishing a conversation between two members of the Rockefeller Trilateral Commission (TC) and a US reporter.

First, a bit of background:

In 1969, four years before birthing the TC with David Rockefeller, Zbigniew Brzezinski wrote: [The] nation state as a fundamental unit of mans organized life has ceased to be the principal creative force. International banks and multinational corporations are acting and planning in terms that are far in advance of the political concepts of the nation state.

Goodbye, separate nations.

Any doubt on the question of TC goals is answered by David Rockefeller himself, the founder of the TC, in his Memoirs (2003): Some even believe we are part of a secret cabal working against the best interests of the United States, characterizing my family and me as internationalists and of conspiring with others around the world to build a more integrated global political and economic structureone world, if you will. If that is the charge, I stand guilty, and I am proud of it.

Who is in charge of destroying national economies, in order to create a new international order?

Who keeps pushing new economy-destroying trade treaties?

Who demands that these treaties must be ratified?

Who is in the business of killing jobs and hope?

Who demands that more US jobs disappear overseas and never come back?

The Trilateral Commission (TC).

The original stated goal of the TC was to create a new international economic order.

Here is a stunning piece of forgotten history, a 1978 conversation between a US reporter and two members of the Trilateral Commission. (Source: Trilateralism: The Trilateral Commission and Elite Planning for World Management; ed. by Holly Sklar, 1980, South End Press, Pages 192-3).

The conversation was public knowledge at the time.

Anyone who was anyone in Washington politics, in media, in think-tanks, had access to it. Understood its meaning.

But no one shouted from the rooftops. No one used the conversation to force a scandal. No one protested loudly.

The conversation revealed that the entire basis of the US Constitution had been torpedoed, that the people who were running US nat...

New Delhi: Rattled by the recent spate of derailments, the Indian Railways has decided to pause the laying of new lines for three months in order to fully concentrate on replacing the damaged tracks across the country.

The new railways dispensation has also decided to man all the unmanned level crossings within a year. Till now, the practice was to utilise maximum available new rails for laying new tracks. The replacement of damaged and stressed rail lines was secondary.

Every year, the railways procures about 5,000-km long new rails from the Steel Authority of India (SAIL), out of which 3,000-3,500 km rails used to be utilised for laying new tracks, including doubling, trebling and gauge conversion.

In a recent safety review meeting, the new railway minister Piyush Goyal took the drastic decision of not joining the race for adding new lines and instead utilise the available rails only for track renewal purpose.

Currently, the railways is laying about 7 kms of new rail in a day and the aim was to increase it to at least 12 kms per day.

However, taking strong exception to the ongoing practice, Goyal told the concerned officials present in the high-level meeting to ful...

Venezuelas Maduro Says Will Shun U.S. Dollar In Favor Of Yuan "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

By Staff of Reuters - CARACAS (Reuters) - Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said on Thursday his cash-strapped country would seek to free itself from the U.S. dollar next week, using the weakest of two official foreign exchange regimes and a basket of currencies. Maduro was refering to Venezuelas DICOM official exchange rate in which the dollar buys 3,345 bolivars, according to the central bank. At the strongest official rate, one dollar buys just 10 bolivars, but on the black market the dollar fetches 20,193 bolivars, a spread versus the official rate that economists say has fostered corruption. A thousand dollars of local currency bought when Maduro came to power in 2013 would now be worth $1.20. Venezuela is going to implement a new system of international payments and will create a basket of currencies to free us from the dollar, Maduro said in an hours-long address to a new legislative superbody, without providing details of the new mechanism. If they pursue us with the dollar, well use the Russian ruble, the yuan, yen, the Indian rupee, the euro, Maduro said. Talking and writing about human right is maybe simple, but when you are talking or writing about a human rights of a forgotten nation, it is completely different. The Kurds, the largest nation in the world without a state, number 45 million people who have been divided between Iran, Iraq, Syria and Turkey.

The Kurds have experienced every kind of death dying in prisons, dying by bombs, dying fighting for freedom and dying fighting against terrorism on behalf of the entire world.

But the world looks upon the Kurds like they are watching a movie like Spartacus, not more. The world needs two things above all else oil and money. Humans rights are beautiful words but worthless.

The Kurdistan areas are rich. They are replete with oil, gold, aluminum, mercury, iron, gas and more. Iraq, Iran, Turkey and Syria have no intention of giving up such wealth.

How It Began: the SykesPicot Agreement

The SykesPicot Agreement, officially known as the Asia Minor Agreement, was a secret agreement made in 1916 between the United Kingdom and France and to which the Russian empire assented.

The agreement defined their mutually agreed spheres of influence and control in southwest Asia and was based on the premise that these parties (known as the Triple Entente) would succeed in defeating the Ottoman Empire in World War I.

The SykesPicot Agreement profoundly influenced the Kurds perhaps even more than all the other peoples who were negatively affected by the agreement. It left them scattered over parts of Iraq, Turkey, Iran and Syria countries in which the Kurds are treated, to this day, as if they never belonged.

All things Kurdish are forbidden to have...

THOUSANDS gathered in London at the weekend to condemn the killing of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar.

On Saturday hundreds gathered at Downing Street as they urged the government to intervene and stop the slaughter of the countrys persecuted minority.

They urged the British government to speak out and blasted the mainstream media for its silence over the killing of thousands of Muslims.

Protect Your Information From Big Data - Click Here! https://www.virtualshield.com/billstill Use Promo Code: bill still for 20% OFF Good morning, Im still reporting on: Who Says National Debt is Good??, 1782 Synopsis: On Wednesday, President Trump in a surprise move supported a Democrat plan to raise the debt ceiling for 3 months to clear the way for other agenda items like Tax Reform. Trump knows that adding additional national debt is unnecessary, however, its a battle he has decided to at least postpone until things calm down inside the beltway. But outside the beltway, the battle rages over whether or not a national debt is as the first U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, Alexander Hamilton, put it: a blessing or as I would put it, a curse of the debt money system. ZeroHedge published an article recently that quoted a professor of economics who claimed that if the government paid off its debt, wed sink into a massive depression. The implication was that the national debt was a good thing. According to Professor Randall Wray, a professor of economics at Bard College: Actually, Prof. Wray is right as far as his understanding goes. If the debt were paid off wed have no national money because all money denominated in Federal Reserve Notes, or their electronic equivalents, is backed by an interest-bearing debt. Yes, its true. This country is saddled economically by the worst of all monetary systems the debt money system. But the good news is it doesnt have to be that way. Heres why. First of all, in the current system, when Congress authorizes a rise in the borrowing limit, what happens. The Treasury Dept. prints up interest-bearing bonds, notes and bills and has bond dealers sell them into the worldwide market. People, corporations and sovereign nations the world over put up real cash to buy these bonds because they are considered the worlds safest investment and pay a fixed rate of interest. After the bond dealers take their cut, the cash raised goes into the national coffers to fund the government. But, this historic accumulation of national debt is not without consequence. Currently, we, the taxpayers of America pay over $267 billion dollars per year in interest on this national debt that Prof. Wray thinks is of trivial import. Thats 6.8% of annual federal spending, the 5th-largest budget item. So, if all our money is the creation of this debt/bond-selling process, if we were to pay it off, we would have no money at all. But, as Wray points out, what if we just paid off a third of our debt, that would reduce the money supply by 1/3rd. Well, as it happens thats exactly what happened in the early 1930s and led to what? The AFL has also refused to explain why Gillon McLachlan, the CEO of the wealthiest sporting code in Australia, claimed the issue was about the mental health of the player, rather than the allegations of racism leveled at other players and officials.

A fortnight ago, former Collingwood star, Hritier Lumumba of Brazilian and Conoglese heritage publicly revealed in a documentary on SBS that his nickname among some players in the early days of his time at the Collingwood Football Club was Chimp.

Lumumba also revealed that after he spoke out publicly about club president Eddie McGuires racial slur of Adam Goodes (McGuire suggested in 2013 that Goodes should be used to promote the film King Kong) he was targeted by senior officials within Collingwood, and eventually forced out after a decade playing for the club.

Neurologist Speaks Out About the Importance of Gut Health for Prevention and Treatment of Incurable Neurological Disorders "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

By Dr. Mercola

The quality, quantity, and composition of the bacteria in your gut have enormous influence on your brain. Dr. David Perlmutter explores this phenomenon in great detail in his new book, Brain Maker: The Power of Gut Microbes to Heal and Protect Your Brain-for Life.

Dr. Perlmutter is a board-certified neurologist and a fellow of the American College of Nutrition (ACN). He also has a clinic in Naples, Florida, and hes been very active in publishing his findings in peer-reviewed medical journals.

His previous book, Grain Brain, topped the New York Times bestseller list for 54 weeks. In my view, Dr. Perlmutter is probably the leading natural medicine neurologist in the US.

Certainly, most neurologists fail to consider how lifestyle impacts the neurological disorders they diagnose and treat every day, and prevention is an area of utmost importance as we still do not have effective treatments for many of the most common brain disorders.

Were now recognizing from research at our most well-respected institutions from around the globe that the gut bacteria are wielding this very powerful sword of Damocles, he says.

They determine whether were going to have a healthy brain or not, whether our brain is going to function well or not, and whether our brain is going to become diseased or not. Who knew that wed be referring back to the gut?

Microbiome Research Shreds Notion of Reductionism

It turns out that this notion of reductionismwhere your body is reduced to its individual partsis completely nonsensical and grossly flawed. As explained by Dr. Perlmutter, every system in your body interrelates in a way that ultimately causes the manifestation of either health or disease.

In a previous interview, Dr. Perlmutter discussed specific dietary factors that influence your...

North Korea appears to be preparing for another ballistic missile launch after marking its founding anniversary on Saturday, Radio Free Asia reported Friday.

Workers started repairing an underground missile launch pad in Samjiyon, Ryanggang Province. Signs show that the regime is replacing an old Paektusan-1 or Taepodong-1 missile with a new Hwasong-14 intercontinental ballistic missile, sources told RFA.

Rebar and cement bags camouflaged are being brought into the missile base secretly at dead of night every day. The underground missile bases in Samjiyon sit 2,000 m above sea level, and missiles launched from here can fly much farther away than from other known bases.

A Cheong Wa Dae official said, Were keeping a close watch on North Korean activities and discussing how to react if they provoke again.

Meanwhile, the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission here said it has finally found some traces of radioactive xenon from the Norths recent nuclear test.

The North Korean regime warned the US will pay a due price if UNSC sanctions are passed.

Venezuelas Maduro in Algeria for talks on oil "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

AFP

RYAD KRAMDI/AFP | Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro arriving in Algiers late September 10, 2017

ALGIERS (AFP)  Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro was in fellow OPEC member Algeria Monday for talks after announcing Caracas would sell crude oil in non-dollar currencies in a bid to resist US sanctions.Maduro arrived late Sunday in the North African country and was due to discuss ways of bolstering bilateral cooperation, a statement from his government said.

The Algerian presidency said Maduro and his Algerian hosts would also review the situation on world oil markets.

It did not elaborate or say whether a meeting was planned with ailing President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, 80.

Maduro said on Friday he planned to start selling oil, gas and all other products that Venezuela sells with new currencies, including the Chinese yuan, the Japanese yen, the Russian ruble, the Indian rupee among others.

An economy free from the US imperialist system is possible, he said during a television broadcast.

Washingtons tough new sanctions on Caracas bar American banks from trading in new bonds issued by Venezuelas government or the state-run oil company PDVSA.

The goal is to restrict the South American countrys access to vital bond and equity markets.

Both Algeria and Venezuela are members of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries cartel, and have been hard hit by low oil prices following a market slump in 2014.

Venezuela has to make $3.8 billion in debt payments in October and November, while its foreign currency reserves have sunk under $10 billion.

The slump in crude oil prices has forced Algerias government to raise taxes and mothball many public projects as the country struggles with high unemployment.

Maduro arrived from Astana where he attended a summit of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.

Vampires May Have Been Real People With A Blood Disorder "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

vampirekid

A team of scientists at Boston Childrens Hospital now says a rare genetic mutation could have caused some people to display the stereotypical traits of vampires. Thought to be fictional until now, a blood disorder could give vampiric qualities to those with the gene.

They are allergic to daylight and garlic and a crucifix will keep them away from you. But perhaps the most feared trait of vampires is the blood sucking of innocent people. Now, according to AOL, its as simple as a doctors explanation.

Well, the skins sensitivity to light has an explanation anyway. The doctor explained to the United Kingdom paper The Sun, there is actually a condition called erythropoietic protoporphyria or EPP. Its a blood disorder that affects kids and makes their skin sensitive to light. They could even get disfiguring blisters if they are in the sun too long, all because their iron levels are too low. Its basically like being chronically anemic.

Of course, this medical condition still doesnt explain where exactly the vampires have no reflection idea stems from, but nonetheless, can explain at least a few of the most typical stereotypes.

The condition anemia results when there are not enough healthy red blood cells in the body. There are many types of anemia and all are very different in their causes and treatments. Iron-deficiency anemia, the most common type, is very treatable with dietary changes and iron supplements. The condition EPP affects the bodys ability to make heme, which helps make hemoglobin part of our blood that helps carry oxygen. Like anemics, it means that those who suffer from this condition have iron levels that are way too low.

The researchers who have begun studying EPP said, that unlike anemia, in ancient times drinki...

The Cure Worse Than The Disease: Expelling Freeloaders In An Open-Shop State "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

By Chris Brooks for New Labor Forum - The United States is likely to be an entirely open- shop country in the near future. Republicans dominate over two-thirds of state legislatures, over half of all governorships, both houses of Congress, the White House, and a majority of seats on the Supreme Court. As the GOP proliferates, so does anti-union legislation. Twenty-eight states have already passed open-shopso-called right-to-worklaws, which allow workers to receive the benefits of unionization without being a union member or paying fees for union representation. Over the next couple of years, the Supreme Court is likely to make right-to-work the law of the land in the public sector and it is possible Congress will pass federal legislation to do the same in the private sector. Right-to-work laws create two interlocking problems for labor unions. First, unions are legally required to represent all workers in a bar- gaining unit that the union has been certified to represent. In open shops, the duty of fair representation requires unions to expend resources on nonmembers who are covered by the union contract. This is known as the free-rider problem. Union activists often refer to workers who opt out of paying for the benefits of unionization as freeloaders.

Lawsuit: Saudi Arabia suspected of funding a 'dry run' 2 years prior to 9/11 attacks "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

For the first time since that fateful September morning 16 years ago, families of victims of the 9/11 terror attacks are using a new law and are going after Saudi Arabia in lawsuits for their role in the attacks. New evidence in one major lawsuit now reveals the Saudi Arabian embassy in Washington may have funded a "dry run" for the hijackings carried out by two Saudi employees. This new information is detailed in a bombshell report out of the NY Post. As the Post reports: Two years before the airliner attacks, the Saudi Embassy paid for two Saudi nationals, living undercover in the US as students, to fly from Phoenix to Washington "in a dry run for the 9/11 attacks," alleges the amended complaint filed on behalf of the families of some 1,400 victims who died in the terrorist attacks 16 years ago. The court filing provides new details that paint "a pattern of both financial and operational support" for the 9/11 conspiracy from official Saudi sources, lawyers for the plaintiffs say. In fact, the Saudi government may have been involved in underwriting the attacks from the earliest stages - including testing cockpit security. "We've long asserted that there were longstanding and close relationships between al Qaeda and the religious components of the Saudi government," said Sean Carter, the lead attorney for the 9/11 plaintiffs. "This is further evidence of that."

Serious Vulnerabilities Discovered in South Korean Parental Apps "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

As parents all over the world review back-to-school safety tips with their kids, researchers have revealed serious security vulnerabilities in South Korean child filtering apps that may leave some parents asking: are our kids safer without them?

Researchers from Citizen Lab, Cure53, and OpenNet Korea conducted a series of security audits on Cyber Security Zone and Smart Dream, two parental monitoring apps for mobile devices. Their findings show that the children who use them are at risk of having their messages intercepted, personal data compromised, and even communication records falsified.

In April 2015, South Korea became the first country in the world to mandate that all phones registered to individuals under the age of 19 be equipped with monitoring and filtering apps that block content deemed harmful. This legislation was created with the intent of protecting minors from bullying and harassment, but security audits by researchers show these apps possess serious vulnerabilities that actually put minors at risk.

Especially when an app is mandated by the government, it should be held to the highest security standards to keep the public safe, explains Cure53 researcher Fabian Faessler. This, unfortunately, is not the case with these apps.

New app, same flaws

The apps studied were developed by the Korean Mobile Internet Business Association (MOIBA), an influential consortium of mobile telecommunications providers and phone manufacturers which is funded and promoted by South Koreas telecommunications regulator, the Korean Communications Commission. In 2015, Citizen Lab and Cure53 conducted a security audit of Smart Sheriff, a child monitoring app produced by MOIBA, and found 26 security vulnerabilities. MOIBA eventually took Smart Sheriff off the market. However, MOIBA still provides child monitoring apps: Cyber Security Zone and Smart Dream, the apps audited in this study.

In fact, Cyber Security Zone appears to simply be a rebranding of Smart Sheriff, replete with many of the same security issues, including possible breaches of sensitive information such as passwords, phone numbers, and other user data. The flaws also allow fake content to be inserted to the apps servers that could show the child visiting web pages and installing applications that they did not actually v...

Serious Question "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

Assuming you've been reading my posts over the last ten months or so, can you imagine how badly this tries my patience?

This Should Be the End, But It Won't Be "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

As far as I am concerned, this is game/set/match.

Washington (CNN)- Around the time presidential candidate Donald Trump was touting his real estate dealings at a Republican primary debate, a proposal was in the works to build a Trump Tower in Russia that would have given his company a $4 million upfront fee, no upfront costs, a percentage of the sales, and control over marketing and design. And that's not all: the deal included the opportunity to name the hotel spa after his daughter Ivanka.

An internal Trump Organization document from October 2015, obtained by CNN on Thursday, reveals the details of a 17-page letter of intent that set the stage for Trump's attorney to negotiate a promising branding venture for Trump condominiums, a hotel and commercial property in the heart of Moscow. Trump signed the document later that month, according to Michael Cohen, his corporate attorney at the time. The document CNN obtained does not have Trump's signature because it is a copy of the deal that Cohen brought to Trump to sign.

Cohen pulled out of the arrangement three months later as the project failed to get off the ground.

Trump did not mention during the presidential campaign that his company explored the business deal in Russia. Instead, he insisted that he had "nothing to do with Russia." Even when talking about his past dealings with Russians -- like the Miss Universe pageant he held in Moscow in 2013 -- Trump never referred to the prospective licensing deal that fell through a few weeks before the Iowa caucuses.

While the potential Russian deal was still on the table, Trump was speaking positively about working with Russian President Vladimir Putin and also minimized Russia's aggressive military moves around the world. His willingness to accept narratives favored by the Kremlin contrasted with not only the Obama administration but also his Republican opponents.

As just a simple matter of whether Trump can be entrusted with our foreign policy, the answer is a clear 'no.'

We can look for evidence of collusion, but that's unnecessary to make the point. Trump was suspected of having undisclosed commercial interests in Russia that explained his policies and he could not have lied about it in a more brazen fashion.

What's really left to discuss?

Ziad Doueiri Was Released & Got His Passports Back "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

After being shortly detained at Beirut airport on Sunday, French-Lebanese Ziad Doueiri appeared today in front of a Lebanese military court and was released on bail. Doueiri, whose latest movie The Insult, won the Venice Film Festivals best actor prize, was being interrogated for alleged collaboration with Israel during the filming of The Attack. According to Doueiri, no charges were filed against him and he stated that he was respectfully treated by the authorities.

A lot of people are arguing over the legality of his arrest but to me the issue is not a legal one especially that Doueiris movie was nominated to represent Lebanon at the Oscars next year and he has been traveling in and out of Lebanon for the past 3 years. Someone was obviously trying to send him a message but I think it backfired because Doueiris arrest and his latest movie are all over the media locally and internationally.

Leaked DOJ Memo Recommends Considering Victims Sexual History In Rape Cases "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

By Emily Wells for Truth Dig - The policy would directly contradict the 1994 Violence Against Women Acts rape shield laws, which are designed to prevent defendants from introducing victims sexual history or reputation as evidence in proceedings. The legal information website Nolo says that challenges to rape shield laws historically have been unsuccessful: The Constitution guarantees a defendant the right to confront the victim, or accuser, at trial. Defendants have argued that rape shield laws abuse this right by hiding victims previous sexual behavior. But, indicative of the nationwide approach, an Illinois court held that a defendants right to confrontation doesnt include a right to present irrelevant evidence such as the victims reputation and sexual acts with other people. (People v. Cornes, 80 Ill.App.3d 166 (1980).) After DeVos announcement to roll back victim protections, 20 state attorneys general signed a letter urging her to keep the protections in place.

Preliminary estimates set the number of flood-damaged homes in Houston at around 100,000. More recent estimates put the number at around 40,000.

No End in Sight for Myanmars Long-suffering Rohingya "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

Summary

Clashes between the minority Rohingya population and security forces in Myanmars Rakhine province have resulted in a mass exodus into Bangladesh. The UN estimates that some 290,000 Rohingya Muslims have crossed into Bangladesh over the past two weeks alone. Estimates of deaths so far range from 400-1,000.

The Rohingya constitute around 1.1 million of Myanmars 53 million people. Theyre predominantly located in the northwest state of Rakhine. Dubbed as the worlds most persecuted minority, the Rohingya have encountered persecution and resistance wherever they migrate to: in Bangladesh, India, and of course Myanmar as well. India Prime Minister Narendra Modis recent visit to Myanmar was motivated in part by a desire to deport the 40,000 some Rohingya people that fled to India during the last uptick of Rakhine violence in 2012.

Recent events in Rakhine are unequivocally a humanitarian disaster, so much so that the venerable Aung San Suu Kyi has been widely panned for her tepid response to the crisis. Yet there are several geopolitical factors at play here which suggest that the Rohingyas problems are just beginning.

Perspectives from the Sky: Taking it to the Edge and Astrology Forecast September 10-16 "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

Perspectives from the Sky

By Leo Knighton Tallarico

We are coming up to the beginning of the 4th quarter phase of the lunar cycle on Wednesday this week.

That will be the last quarter of the lunar cycle that began at the Solar Eclipse New Moon in Leo on August 21.

That 4th and last quarter ends at the New Moon in Virgo on September 20, to be closely followed on September 22 by the Autumn Equinox.

This effectively ends Eclipse Season.  So the enormous intensity brought on by this Eclipse Season begins to subside.

Now that does not mean that important events in the world will end at that point.  In fact important events that have reference to what happened during Eclipse Season will likely unfold within 6 months from when Eclipse Season ends.

And it has been a most powerful Eclipse Season, with both natural and man made events erupting in the world, centered in large part in America.

North Korea and the United States have been frighteningly showing the world the potential danger of war and even nuclear war.

The natural disasters have been exceedingly dangerous ones.  Since the Total Solar Eclipse New Moon in Leo on August 21 we have experienced a devastating hurricane, Hurricane Harvey  moving through much of Texas.

There also is an equally large hurricane about to engulf Florida, Hurricane Irma.  And 2 more hurricanes have been developing in the Atlantic Ocean, Jose and Katrina.

These are said to be some of the biggest hurricanes in many years.

And in Mexico, an especially powerful 8.1 earthquake struck last week. This is one of the largest earthquakes in many years.

So the predicted natural disasters occurred as did the war threats and culture war threats during Eclipse Season.

Personal lives have been in uproar also, as many people have been coming to crossroads moments in their lives, or at least they are experiencing important turning point events or decisions that need to be made.

We have undoubtedly entered a most difficult transition time between one chapter of our lives to a whol...

We have four full-time data journalists, as well as a team of developer-journalists and a wider newsroom thats full of very nerdy reporters. But despite a wide range of talents and expertise, we often find ourselves in quantitative conundrums that we need help to understand and untangle.

Thats why today were announcing a new group of advisers who will help us solve our thorniest problems and do data journalism at the highest possible level. These four people will help us develop methodologies, answer practical questions, introduce us to other domain experts and be another set of eyes on the white papers we write to explain our work.

They have diverse backgrounds and an array of areas of expertise. Were incredibly excited to introduce them.

Relatives of Undocumented Children Caught Up in ICE Dragnet "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

This summer, a Kansas City man named Edwin got a call from immigration officials. They had picked up his nephew at the southern border and wanted to release the teen into his care. So Edwin went online and bought a bed.

Later that week, he was contacted again, this time by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detective who knocked at his door. The agent gave Edwin a letter saying he needed to come to headquarters for an interview about three federal crimes: conspiracy, visa fraud and human smuggling.

Across the country, people like Edwin who have taken in young undocumented relatives are being swept up in what ICE calls a crackdown on guardians who pay human smugglers. More than 400 people were arrested over the course of two months this summer as part of the new approach. Others are still dodging ICE interviews, have agreed to go through deportation proceedings or have gone on the run. Some of those affected admit that they paid coyotes to reunite them with their young children. But many are collateral damage: People who just happened to be in the house when ICE showed up, or relatives who agreed to take in teens after they traveled to the U.S. on their own.

The message is getting out: Dont sponsor someone if youre here illegally, or youre going to get in trouble, said Claude Arnold, a former ICE Homeland Security Investigations special agent who supports the new policy. The idea is to have a deterrent effect, so when a teenager says, Uncle, I can pay my own way, but can I stay with you? the uncle is going to say, No way.

Edwin, who asked that his last name be withheld because of possible pending criminal charges, has been living in the U.S. for more than 15 years and says he never paid anyone to help his nephew cross the border. He points out that he has done everything by the book since emigrating from El Salvador to Missouri in 2001. He immediately got a job at a dry cleaning company and obtained Temporary Protected Status, which allows him to live and work in the U.S. so long as he keeps a clean criminal record. He doesnt follow the news and didnt know he was risking deportation by agreeing to take in his nephew. But he said it wouldnt have mattered; he couldnt have refused to welcome his sisters son.

My nephew is grown and he makes his own choices. Everyone pays their own way. But hes my family and its my duty to take him in, Edwin said.

Edwins nephew Wilbur lived in Kansas City with Temporary Protected Status himself as a child, but his parents decided to take him back to El Salvador...

Deep Shame On Suu Kyi And Myanmar "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

By Eric Margolis for Common Dreams - Few people have ever heard of Myanmars Rohingya people. Not many more could find Myanmar on a map particularly after its name was changed some years ago from Burma to Myanmar. The exception is Burmas sainted lady leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, who became a worldwide celebrity and Nobel Prize winner. The media loved her, a sort of Burmese Joan of Arc versus its brutal military junta. But now, tragically, the Rohingya are headline news thanks to Myanmars brutal ethnic cleansing of one of the worlds most abused, downtrodden people. Almost as revolting is the worlds failure to take any action to rescue the Rohingya from murder, rape, arson and ethnic terrorism. In recent weeks, over 270,000 Rakhines have been driven from their homes in Rakhine State in western Myanmar and now cower in makeshift refugee camps just across the border in Bangladesh in the midst of monsoon season. Rohingya have lived for centuries in Burma/Myanmar. Some of their ancestors may have been brought as coolies or indentured laborers from neighboring East Bengal (today Bangladesh) by the British rulers of the region. Once again, the British Empire was behind yet another world problem. Burma is a hodgepodge of peoples and ethnicities. The largest, about 60%, are Buddhist Burmans, but there are many other important groups like Karen, Kachin, Chin, Mon and Shan.

You Cant Have A Progressive Movement Without Peace "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

By David Swanson for Let's Try Democracy - Heres my five-minute case for why you cant have an effective progressive movement in the United States that doesnt include working for peace. War and militarism and bases and ships and missiles and sanctions and nuclear threats and hostility make up the filter through which much of the other 96% of humanity experiences this 4%. The U.S. Congress chooses how to spend a great deal of money each year, and chooses to put 54% of it into war and preparations for war. The wars demonstrably increase rather than reduce or eliminate anti-U.S. sentiment and violence. They endanger us rather than protect us. The wars are a top cause of death and injury in the world, and a top cause of famines and disease epidemics and refugee crises that cause massive additional suffering. But war kills most by diverting resources. Small fractions of U.S. military spending could end starvation, provide clean water, end diseases, even end the use of fossil fuels worldwide. Military spending also reduces jobs in comparison to other spending or not taxing working people in the first place. The U.S. military consumes more petroleum than most entire countries and has a bigger budget than most governments and about the size of all other militaries combined.

Monday Meslier: 187 Priests, More than Unbelivers, Act from Interest "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

This ones dedicated to Jim Bakker.

Jean Meslier Portrait

Your host, Jean Meslier

The apologists of religion repeat to us every day that the passions alone create unbelievers. It is, they say, pride, and a desire to distinguish themselves, that make atheists; they seek also to efface the idea of God from their minds, because they have reason to fear His rigorous judgments. Whatever may be the motives which cause men to be irreligious, the thing in question is whether they have found truth. No man acts without motives; let us first examine the argumentswe shall examine the motives afterwardand we shall find that they are more legitimate, and more sensible, than those of many credulous devotees who allow themselves to be guided by masters little worthy of mens confidence.

You say, O priests of the Lord! that the passions cause unbelievers; you pretend that they renounce religion through interest, or because it interferes with their irregular inclinations; you assert that they attack your Gods because they fear their punishments. Ah! yourselves in defending this religion and its chimeras, are you, then, really exempt from passions and interests? Who receive the fees of this religion, on whose behalf the priests are so zealous? It is the priests. To whom does religion procure power, credit, honors, wealth? To the priests! In all countries, who make war upon reason, science, truth, and philosophy and render them odious to the sovereigns and to the people? Who profit by the ignorance of men and their vain prejudices? The priests! You are, O priests, rewarded, honored, and paid for deceiving mortals, and you punish those who undeceive them. The follies of men procure you blessings, offerings, expiations; the most useful truths bring to those who announce them, chains, sufferings, stakes. Let the world judge.

Im sure Bakker would be nothing new to Meslier, though perhaps he would be surprised and disappointed to see that people still fall for Bakkers ilk. Of course, Meslier was consumed with guilt because he too was one of Bakkers ilk. I enjoy Mesliers many critiques of religiousity, but I dont consider Meslier to be a great example: he didnt reveal his true feelings until he was safely dead, his flock kept getting fleeced and he didnt do anything for them ex...

Highly Toxic Materials Are Leaking into Hurricane Flood Water "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

Superfund sites are defined by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as highly polluted areas requiring a long-term response to clean up hazardous materials and contamination.

Most came about due to lax regulations that allowed the discharge of very hazardous and often carcinogenic chemicals. The EPA was ordered to create a National Priorities List of such locations, and to oversee their cleanup.

Dozens of these Superfund sites were in the footprint of the floodwaters of Hurricane Harvey. Another 22 of these sites exist in Florida. During Harvey, no attempt was made to secure Superfund sites from flooding and, as water receded, the EPA was very slow to respond.

Since then, there has been much pressure on the agency to come up with a plan to secure these sites in Florida, to give people fair warning and have a post-Hurricane Irma plan.

While it appears that the EPA has learned some lessons from Harvey, the agency remains understaffed and underfunded for the full scope of the potential public health crisis.

Shaughnessy Naughton is a chemist, a cancer researcher, and the founder of 314 Action, a pro-science group dedicated to getting more scientists involved in public policy. In this podcast, Naughton talks with WhoWhatWhys Jeff Schechtman about the compounded dangers facing flood victims, and what can be done to help them.

Yes, child grooming scandals are a hate crime and heres why "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

The past few weekends have seen Labour MPs engaged in a pretty unseemly ideological schism over child grooming scandals in (most recently) Newcastle, and before that Rotherham, Rochdale and elsewhere.

It was kicked off by Sarah Champion who wrote an irredeemably dreadful piece for the Sun that spoke in such clumsily broad-brush terms about Pakistani men that it was perceived (rightly or wrongly) as outright racism and this cost her a frontbench role as shadow Equalities minister.  Any thoughts that shed been misrepresented or misquoted by the sleazy tabloid were dispelled a week later when she gave an interview to the Times that saw her digging deeper into the same trench.

On Saturday, the constituency MP for Newcastle upon Tyne, Chi Onwurah, responded directly with a piece in the Guardian that was uncompromising in its assertion that race has nothing to do with the grooming gangs, whose members are motivated by misogyny, not racism, she wrote.

If my Twitter feed was anything to go by, her piece was not exactly well received, even by left-leaning liberals who might have been minded to agree with her general stance. Her opening sentence in particular was unfathomably crass and ill-advised, asking: Whats worse, rape or racism?

The arguments around it put me in mind of a rambling chat we had in the comments section of another post here, about the meaning and definition of hate crime, and I thought it might be worth unpicking how I see all of this.

I should stress at this point, I claim no particular expertise or authority in any of the areas under discussion here, but the criminology of the dynamics of sexual abuse is an area I have given a lot of thought to over the years, so I hope youll hear me out.

The first thing that needs to be said about grooming gangs is that there is not one scandal here. There are at least three different scandals, which have come together in a perfect storm of exploitation. Each is different, has different causes, different roots and should demand different responses. Here are the facts as I understand them.

SCANDAL 1

Over years if not decades, in dozens of different towns and cities, apparently entirely independently, conspiratorial gangs, (almost but not exclusively) British Asian-Muslim men, used networks of small businesses such as taxi companies and fast food outlets to groom, intoxicate, rape and sexually exploit thousands of children, most (but not all) of whom were girls from non-Musl...

BlackBerry abandoning its users riding on its success of yesteryear "IndyWatch Feed Allaunews"

Normal 0 false false false EN-AU X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4
In the rapidly changing world of Information and Communications Technology, companies can come and go without even a ripple, invent technologies to be bought out by others and even reach stratospheric heights only to wilt away to a minuscule shadow of their former glory, like Nokia.

It seems that BlackBerry is going down this inevitable path too.

BlackBerry used to be a name synonymous with secure handsets together with a secure server communications platform.

Just because this may have been the case with BlackBerry a decade ago does not mean this is also the case today.

On the success of its (allegedly) secure proprietary device operating system (combined with the server email platform), BlackBerry abandoned its BlackBerry Operating System user base to create  Google's Android Operating System base mobil...
