More big mammals found in high-carbon forests, says new study "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Carbon-rich tropical forests, which are often among the least-disturbed habitats, seem to be ideal bastions for sensitive and threatened animals, particularly compared to lower-carbon areas like timber and oil palm plantations. But until recently, data-driven conclusions connecting high levels of both carbon and biodiversity have been elusive. Scientists have been trying to link carbon with biodiversity for a number of years, but with variable success, said Nicolas Deere, an ecologist at the Durrell Institute of Conservation and Ecology at the University of Kent in the United Kingdom, in an interview. Recent research by Deere and his colleagues revealed that high-carbon tropical forests do support more biodiversity than those with less carbon, bolstering the case for the use of carbon assessments to identifying forests important for conservation on a number of fronts. The team published their findings Nov. 6 in the Journal of Applied Ecology. A Borneo pygmy elephant (Elephas maximus borneensis) in Malaysia. Photo by John C. Cannon/Mongabay. The team chose the patchwork of forests and plantations that make up the Stability of Altered Forest Ecosystems, or SAFE, project area in southern Sabah. Critical to demonstrating the relationship between carbon and biodiversity levels was the researchers use of high-resolution satellite data to pinpoint areas with the most carbon. They also used camera traps to record the number of species present in different habitats. Previous studies have often looked at coarser data sets, in which the carbon values for larger areas might represent a range of different forest qualities. In places like Sabah,

Was Judge Moores Accuser's Yearbook Autograph Forged?, 1888 "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

- Wealth365 Summit - online Financial Conference - Jan. 15-20 Call 262-299-6200 or go to Good morning, Im still reporting on: Was Judge Moores Accuser's Yearbook Autograph Forged?, 1888 Synopsis: Well, the coupsters are still busying themselves at the direction of the ministry of propaganda with continuing to undermine any effort to sway the Republican majority in the United States Senate. Weve stayed a mile away from the Judge Roy Moore story because we had a tip that a certain agency had turned against Deep State and was using its intel to expose all the sex pervs supporting it. And thats why there has been this rash of sex exposes. We didnt know if the Roy Moore accusers were part of that outing for some reason so we waited. Now, this entire Roy Moore flock smells more and more like a MOP (Ministry of Propaganda) fiction. Heres the evidence: According to a blog author whose name I probably shouldnt mention out loud lets just call him a military historian who is following these events closely. The Defend-Judge-Roy-Moore group pretty much collapsed yesterday afternoon when, at 2:25, a lady named Beverly Young Nelson, age 56, held a press conference in New York with embattled attorney Gloria Allred alleging Judge Roy Moore sexually harassed her when she was 16 years old. She showed a copy of her high school annual with a purported inscription signed by Roy Moore D.A. Even Judge Jeanine went running for the hills after that. Tonight, Hannity gave Judge Moore 24 hours to fully explain or drop out. But hold on there. This mornings light has called this revelation into serious question. Problem #1: The inscription reads: To a sweeter more beautiful girl, I could not say, Merry Christmas. Signed Roy Moore D.A. Do you remember your high school annual days? Since when did one come out before Christmas. They came out just a month or two before the end of school like April or May. Problem #2: Roy Moore was never a D.A. He was an assistant D.A. Oops!!! But it gets worse. Problem #3: could it be that someone at CNN retouched the part at the top right? So it looks like someone named Roy did write the part on the left, but from Moore on is written in blue ink, not black ink. Duhhhh. Obesity is caused by the kind of food you eat. Mounting evidence has shown that diet is the primary cause of cancer in the world today and that an obese person is more likely to develop cancer. A study, published in the journal CMAJ Openanalyzed the incidence of cancer attributed to lifestyle and environmental factors. The researchers estimated summary population attributable risk estimates for 24 factors: passive and active smoking; overweight and obesity; lack of physical activity; inadequate fruit and vegetable intake, inadequate fibre intake, excess red and processed meat intake, salt intake, inadequate calcium consumption, and vitamin D intake; alcohol; oral contraceptives and hormone therapy; Epstein-Barr virus, hepatitis B and C viruses, human papillomavirus, and Helicobacter pylori; air pollution; natural and artificial ultraviolet radiation; radon; and water disinfection by-products.

Notes on Anti-Fascist Self-Defense Training : 10 Lessons from the Russian Anti-Fascist Experience "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

Anti-fascists on May Day 2014 in Murmansk.

The Trump presidency has seen a boom of fascist organizing and anti-fascist resistance in North America. Strategies and tactics that originally developed in the European context have spread around the USA. Meanwhile, in Russia, both Nazi violence and anti-fascist activity have died down to a mere fraction of what they were at the peak of the years of confrontation, 2002-2011. In the following text, a participant in the Russian anti-fascist movement suggests some conclusions about how to train for anti-fascist confrontations.

In publishing this perspective, we aim to facilitate dialogue between those fighting fascism in a variety of conditions all around the world. We believe it is crucial for anti-fascists to learn from history and from each others experience. If the Russian model for anti-fascist action reached its limits based on internal factors, as described below, we should take care not to reproduce those elements in our own organizing. Likewise, we encourage readers to bear in mind the political, social, and legal differences between the Russian and US contexts; youll do no one any good by ending up in prison on weapons charges unless the alternative would have been even worse. In the long run, fascism wont be defeated simply by individual courage or force of arms, but by building a broad-based, participatory movement that addresses the social and economic problems fascists capitalize on to recruit for their organizations.

Antifascist Attitude, a documentary made in 2008. Click on the option for English subtitles.

Introduction from the Author

Unfortunately, this text cannot go into detail about the history of Russian anti-fascism. That text has yet to be written. You can get a general sense from two texts that appeared between 2009 and 2011, before it was obvious that the situation was about to change:

There are a number of reasons why both fascist terror and anti-fascist organizing have drastically diminished in Russia over the past decade. First of all, Russian society is less dysfunctional. During the economic crisis of the 1990s, entire communities were devastated due to drugs and crime; peo...

Live Video Presentation: Grand Jury Resistance : November 21, 8 pm Eastern Time "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

Resisting the Standing Rock grand jury.

On November 21, at 8 pm Eastern Time, we will broadcast our third live video presentation, in which an experienced legal support worker will explain what grand juries are, how they work, and how to resist themthen answer any questions you have. View the video here on this page or via

This follows up our earlier presentations, An Overview of the J20 Prosecution and The RNC 8, Standing Rock, and J20 Cases.

Over the course of 2017, anarchists and radicals have actively resisted grand juries from Standing Rock to North Carolina. Its vital to learn what a grand jury is and what tools of resistance our communities have against them. This presentation is intended to demystify a legal process that relies on secrecy, paranoia, and suspicion as a means to tear apart communities and resistance movements. One of our strongest weapons against this particular tactic of state repression is knowledgealongside bold acts of solidarity!

Tune in to learn about the grand jury process, its legacy of repression, and how you can support resistance to grand juries.

Lebanons Hezbollah terror group, blamed by Saad Hariri for his shock resignation as premier, has grown over the three decades since its founding into a mighty army used by Iran to project regional influence.

Hariri criticized the powerful Shiite movement for its meddling across the Middle East during a televised interview from Saudi Arabia on Sunday, his first media appearance since he stepped down on November 4.

Despite being branded a terrorist organization by the United States and Gulf countries and targeted with economic sanctions, Hezbollah has risen to play a decisive role in regional conflicts.

ProPublica Illinois Q&A: Meet Data Reporter Sandhya Kambhampati "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

Sandhya Kambhampati, who came to ProPublica Illinois from Correctiv, an independent nonprofit newsroom in Berlin, enjoys sifting through datasets to find a story. But for her, data is more than data points and numbers. Its people who are getting affected. In the sixth of a series of Q&As with ProPublica Illinois staffers, Kambhampati talked with ProPublica Emerging Reporter Andrea Salcedo.

What inspired you to become a data reporter?

Ive always liked numbers and statistics. As a child, my dad played NPR in the car, we watched the nightly news and we watched 60 Minutes on Sundays. I actually wanted to be a 60 Minutes reporter when I was little.

The reason I liked that type of reporting was because it was document-based. They had to sift through lots of data and find the story. I wanted to find a way to do that kind of investigative reporting. So when I got to college, I heard about this class being offered called CAR (computer-assisted reporting). I saw that it was a senior-level course and I thought, Thats stupid. Why is it only senior level? I thought, OK. Ive got to take this class. I got into that class my sophomore year. That professor pretty much inspired me to continue on that path.

What are you interested in investigating with ProPublica Illinois?

Im interested in higher education data, taxes and transportation. Id like to dig into the systems in Illinois that people dont know much about and help put the data thats recorded or not recorded on these systems into context.

What are some underreported stories in Illinois that you wish would receive more coverage, especially after looking at so many datasets on a regular basis?

In general, hate crimes are not very well reported. Statistics on them are really bad and the record keeping is not consistently kept across police agencies.

How do you hope the stories that you help build at ProPublica Illinois will spark change?

For me, the most important thing i...

Homebrew SNES Mini Aims for Historical Accuracy "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

While normies are out fighting in the isles of Walmart to snap up one of the official Classic Mini consoles that Nintendo lets slip out onto the market every once and awhile, hackers have been perfecting their own miniature versions of these classic gaming systems. The Classic Mini line is admittedly a very cool way to capitalize on nostalgic masses who have now found themselves at the age where they have disposable income, but the value proposition is kind of weak. Rather than being stuck with the handful of generation-limited games that Nintendo packed into the official products, these homebrew consoles can play thousands of ROMs from systems that stretch across multiple generations and manufacturers.

But for those old enough to remember playing on one of these systems when they first came out, these modern reincarnations always lack a certain something. It never feels quite right. That vaguely uncomfortable feeling is exactly what [ElBartoME] is aiming to eliminate with his very slick miniature SNES build. His 3D printed case doesnt just nail the aesthetics of the original (PAL) console, but the system also uses real SNES controllers in addition to NFC cartridges to load different ROMs.

What Can Saudi Arabia Really Do About Hezbollah? Hezbollah gets money bags from Iran. "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

By Donna Abu-Nasr

November 14, 2017, 8:00 PM EST

Saudi Arabia has embarked on another foreign policy adventure by intervening in Lebanons delicate sectarian power balance to undermine Iranian-backed Hezbollah.

Yet even working with the U.S. and Israel in trying to isolate the group, the Saudis could end up being little more than a minor inconvenience for militants whose tentacles have stretched from their southern Lebanon heartlands in recent years. Hezbollah is a regional force, with combatants in Yemen, Iraq and helping President Bashar al-Assad prevail in Syria.

Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri appeared to be targeting Hezbollah and its Iranian allies when he abruptly announced his resignation from the Saudi capital Riyadh on Nov. 4 saying he feared for his life. That raised concerns Lebanon is once again caught between regional sectarian rivals Iran and Saudi Arabia. Tensions remain high, yet there are no signs other Lebanese factions are prepared or able to take on Hezbollah.

If the group emerges from the crisis unscathed, then its chief, Hassan Nasrallah, will win by not losing, said Denis Sullivan, co-director of the Middle East Center at Northeastern University in Boston. Its too late to counter Hezbollah at least not in a one fell swoop, said Sullivan. The cat is out of the bag and Hezbollah is out of Lebanon. Its everywhere now.

Whats Next?

The drama that saw Hariri end up in Saudi Arabia hasnt been resolved yet. He said on Sunday he would return soon, though stressed he would only retract his resignation if Hezbollah halts its engagements in other countries.

That has been a long-standing demand by Saudi Arabia, an erstwhile supporter of Hariri, who was born in Riyadh, and his father, Rafiq, who was assassinated in 2005. It accused Hezbollah of being behind a ballistic missile fired at the Saudi capital shortly after Hariri j...

Are the DUP really going to push for a fundamentalist agricultural policy? (I doubt it.) "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

Brian Feeney raises a real issue facing farmers with regard to Brexit

last week US commerce secretary Wilbur Ross was quite clear that if the UK wants a trade deal with the US after Brexit they will have to jettison EU food standards. Chlorine-washed chicken is the least of it.

Some chickens are dosed with antihistamines to tenderise their meat. Others have been treated with ketamine, a hallucinogenic drug, yet others with steroids.

And, as Brian hints, its not the only issue thats worrying the Ulster Farmers Union. GM is so pervasive in the US that its not even labelled as such. Its not banned from the EU as such, but it has to be labelled and that has the effect of curtailing market sales.

Chlorine washed chicken is indicative of a genuine departure in the philosophy of food regulation, with the long-established EU principle of the precautionary principle over evidence. But then again the US doesnt do farm to fork regulation: checking only at market entry.

The high demand for chicken may mean that any putative impact on local farmers is low. Growth hormones like BST in meat and milk are likely to be a much more real challenge in terms of Northern Irish farmers retaining a hold of the UK domestic market and to the EU.

Farmers can, have and will continue to change and diversify. But, you would have to ask yourself, how likely is that the Tory party (whose MPs disproportionately represent the rural areas likely to be most adversely affected by any such decision) will go for such a deal?

Consider too that the Labour spokesman for farming has spoken on all of these issues as key blocks to a functional future food policy.

Somehow, its fast becoming a self-deluding nationalist shibboleth that all Unionist moves are shortsighted and stupid. However, a glance at the political record suggests that this is a vast underestimation of their opponents: who now have the only NI ball in the game at their feet.

The problem with almost all speculation on Brexit and what it will look like when it finally emerges is that it is trying to commentate on a whole bunch of variables as though they were points that are already fixed. They arent, and they wont be until the deal is known.

As a still convinced Remainer, I really struggle to see what advantages Brexit can offer us that we dont have in our hands....

Ross 128 b: A Temperate Planet? "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

At 10.89 light years from Earth, Ross 128 is the twelfth closest star to the Solar System, a red dwarf (M4V) first cataloged in 1926 by astronomer Frank Elmore Ross. Now we have news that a team working with the European Southern Observatorys HARPS spectrograph (High Accuracy Radial velocity Planet Searcher) at the La Silla Observatory in Chile has discovered an Earth-sized planet orbiting Ross 128 every 9.9 days, a world whose orbit could conceivably place it in the habitable zone, where liquid water could exist on the surface. That gives us a second nearby world in an interesting orbit, the other of course being Proxima Centauri b.

What gives the Ross 128 b detection a wrinkle of astrobiological interest is that the star the planet orbits is relatively inactive. Red dwarfs are known for the flares that can flood nearby planets with ultraviolet and X-ray radiation. Compounded with the fact that habitable zone planets must orbit quite close to a parent M-dwarf (given the stars small size and low temperature compared to the Sun), such flares could act as a brake on the development of life.

Ross 128 b may thus have a higher likelihood for astrobiological activity than Proxima b, assuming that it actually is in the habitable zone. Right now the team behind this work, led by Xavier Bonfils (Universit Grenoble Alpes) hedges its bets by referring to the planet as temperate and close to the inner edge of the conventional habitable zone.

Image: This artists impression shows the temperate planet Ross 128 b, with its red dwarf parent star in the background. This planet, which lies only 11 light-years from Earth, was found by a team using ESOs unique planet-hunting HARPS instrument. The new world is now the second-closest temperate planet to be detected after Proxima b. It is also the closest planet to be discovered orbiting an inactive red dwarf star, which may increase the likelihood that this planet could potentially sustain life. Ross 128 b will be a prime target for ESOs Extremely Large Telescope, which will be able to search for biomarkers in the planets atmosphere. Credit: ESO/M. Kornmesser.

Lets dig into habitability a bit more. Ross 128 is a star with about half the surface temperature of the Sun. The newly discovered planet orbits it some twenty times closer than the Earth to the Sun, while receiving 1.38 times the irradiation the Earth receives. The researchers derive an equilibrium temperature between -60 and 20C, eq...

Talking about the NHS "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

NHS Channel S debateLast night I was on Channel S TVs Lets Talk live debate show, hosted by my old friend Ajmal Masroor, discussing the state of Britains National Health Service (NHS). The NHS will celebrate the 70th anniversary of its foundation next year, but there is a widespread belief that it is showing its age, not in a complimentary way. The peg for the show was a BBC report suggesting that 280,000 more routine operations could be carried out in NHS hospitals each year if the theatres were managed more efficiently. The way that Croydon has improved its performance was cited as a template which others might follow. Of course, all sorts of factors come into play in efficiency in operatingtheatres, not just timetabling. A percentage of patients cancel, sometimes at the last moment, or even without informing the hospital. And a shortage of beds can aggravate the situation. But of course the TV debate whose other participants were a retired GP from Newham, a solicitor specialising in clinical negligence cases and a Labour Party politician ranged more widely over the state of the NHS. Everyone agreed that there is a funding shortfall; the Liberal Democrats, of course, included in our manifesto for Junes general election a pledge to inject a further 6bn into the NHS, paid for by raising income tax by 1p in the po...

We think that it is not necessary to explain too much the reason of our selection: the milk industry has a long history of destruction, cruelty and torture on this planet, its ecosystem and their habitants. Summary: The EPOs troubling race to the bottom (of patent quality) concerns the staff examiners and the judges, but they cannot speak about it without facing rather severe consequences

THE EPO, wrongly and arrogantly assuming that the UPC will materialise, is already making judges inside the EPO redundant or subservient. Even in defiance of the EPC. This is extremely serious as its a removal of oversight.

Several years ago we said that the EPO had done that (in late 2014) in order to gag those who speak about patent quality and can do so without fear of retribution. Quality [of patents at the EPO] has dropped drastically the last 3 or 4 years, one person wrote yesterday*. Ever since then, for obvious reasons, we have seen no dissenting judges (except retired ones). They self-censor, just like staff representatives do (consciously or subconsciously). EPO insiders already know what it means for EPO management to send judges to Haar (a symbolic act) and then try to invite chairs to actually celebrate this. Thankfully, most chairs are snubbing and declining this invitation.

Deep inside, EPO staff representatives dont really believe much will change when Battistelli leaves. They just give Campinos the benefit of the doubt and act diplomatically. To quote a key paragraph (and the only one which contains new information of any kind in this article):

Your pill spies on you

The pill reports when its taken

By Jon Rappoport

Source: NY Times, 11/13, First Digital Pill Approved to Worries About Biomedical Big Brother.

Heres the new equation: A medicine is a pill is a sensor that reports when you took the pill.

Achtung! Take your medication on time!

Theyre starting with Abilify, used to treat schizophrenia and depression. The patient signs up voluntarily to be monitored. The sensor in his pills will inform up to four designated people.

Its wonderful. Dont worry, be happy.

The Surveillance State has a new eyeball, and its in the patients mouth, throat, and stomach.

Otsuka manufactures the pill, and Proteus makes the sensor, which is composed of copper, magnesium, and silicon.

The pill reports when its taken.

The elderly, of course, are a main target in this new scheme. Theyll sign up for the program in drovesbecause theyre already drugged to the gills and they easily forget everyday details.

Wonderful! I want all my pills to have sensors in them, so I can be sure Im doing what my doctor wants me to.

Pharmaceutical slaves on parade.

The overriding principle here is: what starts out as a voluntary program eventually becomes mandatory, for the good of all. The voluntary phase is just the warm-up, to secure general acceptance. The whole vaccination schedule is a perfect example of the shift from voluntary to mandatory.

Eventually, youll hear something like this: Bob, are you still taking those pills without sensors? I didnt think they were even making them anymore. Whats wrong with you? Dont you want protection? Last month I forgot to take my antidepressant on time and thank God my smart phone alerted me. It could have been a disaster

Or how about this, someday: The governor of California has signed a bill mandating that all workers in the state who are prescribed bipolar medicines take them with embedded sensors. The governor said, There is a real danger to the community when people with bipolar are unmedicated or miss their dosing schedule. This new law will protect all our people.

Department of Homeland Security Terror Bulletin Warns of "Weaponized Drones" "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

Homeland Security bulletin warns of weaponized drones and threat to aviation

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued an updated terror bulletin on Thursday highlighting the threat of weaponized drones, chemical attacks and the continued targeting of commercial aircraft.

"We continue to face one of the most challenging threat environments since 9/11, as foreign terrorist organizations exploit the internet to inspire, enable or direct individuals already here in the homeland to commit terrorist acts," reads the bulletin.

[...] "The current bulletin introduces unmanned aircraft systems as potential threats and highlights sustained concern regarding threats against commercial aviation and air cargo," said DHS acting press secretary Tyler Houlton in a statement.

There's been an "uptick in terrorist interest" in using unmanned aerial systems as weapons in the United States and other western countries, according to a senior DHS official. These tactics have been used by terrorists on the battlefield, and the department wants to "guard against those tactics being exported to the west," said the official. The official said that DHS wants to be "forward leaning" about seeing what terrorists are doing overseas and tactics they might adopt in the future.

Since the last bulletin, concerns about terrorist targeting aviation sector have grown, said the official. "[T]errorists continue to target commercial aviation and air cargo, including with concealed explosives," reads the updated bulletin.

Canada: Protesters Ordered off Midsummer Island Fish Farm "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

from Warrior Publications

First Nations protesters have been ordered to vacate their camp on a fish farm near Midsummer Island for 30 days while they prepare for a court date on Marine Harvests application for an injunction that would see them permanently removed from the site.

Protesters from the Musgamagw and Namgis First Nations have been occupying a shelter attached to the fish farm, southeast of Port McNeill, since early September, demanding that Marine Harvest shut down operations in their traditional territories.

At the direction of the Supreme Court of B.C., the protesters now have three days to remove their structures from the farm.

This (adjournment) gives our hereditary and elected leadership more time to get legal action and negotiations organized to remove these farms from our waters legally and permanently, said Musgamagw protester Molina Dawson.

The local First Nations have asked the B.C. government not to renew leases on farm sites in the Broughton Archipelago when they expire next June.

We would have preferred to stay on Midsummer, she said. Our concern now is that Marine Harvest will use this time to restock the farms.

Marine Harvest has harvested salmon from the farm in recent weeks, but has delayed restocking because of safety concerns for the protesters.

We will review the biological schedule of our fish as we raise a living, growing animal, said Marine Harvest Canadas managing director Vincent Erenst. Until meaningful discussions are taking place to find long-term solutions, we will concentrate on continuing to take care of our fish and our employees.

Erenst urged senior levels of government to find a solution to First Nations concerns about their rights and title.

South Asia and the Gulf countries are often seen as belonging to two different universes. Indeed, the contemporary geopolitical division of the world situates the former in Asia and the latter in the Middle East. This geographical slicing obliterates dense interactions which have intensified because of migrations and remittances. In a forthcoming book edited by Christophe Jaffrelot and Laurence Lour, The Islamic Connection: South Asia and the Gulf (Penguin, 2017), ten experts of the subject analyse the religious dimension of this relation. An excerpt from the conclusion follows.

While Saudi Arabia and Pakistan fight together against al-Qaeda and ISIS, the illicit dimension of the Saudi influence in Pakistan is epitomized by the financing of the madrassas and jihadi groups. LeT, that was designated as a terrorist group by...

US Cuts Funds for Disarming Explosives It Dropped on Cambodia "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

November 15, 2017 (Tony Cartalucci - NEO) - In an article by Thai PBS titled, "US cuts 2018 funding for demining operations in Cambodia," it's revealed that next year's meager $2 million in US government funding for demining operations of US unexploded ordnance (UXO) in eastern Cambodia leftover from the Vietnam War has been discontinued without warning or explanation.

The move caused confusion across Cambodia's government, as well as across partner nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) in Cambodia participating in the US program.

Speculation over the move revolves around growing tensions between Washington and Phnom Penh as the United States desperately attempts to reassert itself in Asia Pacific, while Asian states - including Cambodia - continue to build closer and more constructive ties with Beijing at the expense of Washington's waning influence.

Cambodia has recently exposed and ousted a myriad of US-funded fronts posing as NGOs and independent media platforms executing a campaign of US-backed political subversion. This includes the disbanding of the Cambodia National Rescue opposition party and the arrest of its leader, Kem Sokha, who bragged of his role in a US conspiracy to overthrow the Cambodian government and install him into power.

Tensions in Cambodia represent a wider, regional trend where US footholds face increasing scrutiny and resistance as Washington's abuse of "NGOs," "rights advocacy," and "democracy promotion" is systematically exposed and rolled back.

EU signs "historic" deal to integrate 23 armies to shake off its US dependence - or is it an attempt to intimidate Russia? "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

It took 70 years, but the European Union finally signed a pact today (Nov. 13) agreeing to integrate military funding, weapons development, and deployment of European defenses. US president's Donald Trump's frequent accusations that EU countries do not pay enough into NATO has been one catalyst for them move forward with a unified plan for military cooperation. The other is that it could legitimately diminish the bloc's dependence on US military support. EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini, called the pact "historic" as "the real problem is not how much we spend, it is the fact we spend in a fragmented manner." She also said it would strengthen the work of the US-led NATO. Comment: So is it actually 'shaking off' dependence on the psychopathic warmongers in the US or is it just another US proxy army this time in Europe?? U.S. creation of its proxy army ISIS in Iraq and Syria part of imperial divide-and-conquer strategy for Middle East Hypocritical NATO 'concerned' by Russia's military build-up close to "our borders"

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala transport minister Thomas Chandy, who is facing encroachment allegations, today resigned from the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front government headed by Pinarayi Vijayan.

The resignation comes a day after the Kerala high court dismissed Chandys petition challenging a report of the Alappuzha district collector on alleged encroachments by a company in which he has a stake.

This is the third minister in the Vijayan cabinet to resign after the LDF government came to power in May 2016. Earlier, A.K. Saseendran of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) had resigned after an audio clip of him speaking to a woman went viral and E.P. Jayarajan of the CPI(M) quit on nepotism charges.

Chandy, a three-time MLA of the NCP, had been inducted into the cabinet eight months ago following the resignation of Saseendran. NCP had only two MLAs. The resignation letter was handed over to the chief minister by NCP state president T.P. Peethambaran Master, after consulting on the matter with the partys national leadership.

Chandy, who left for Alappuzha, after attending the cabinet meeting, told a Malayalam television channel that even though the chief minister did not seek his resignation and there were no circumstances for the same, a coalition partner (the CPI) took the &#822...

Mysterious loud 'boom' heard across North Alabama - NASA unsure of origin "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

(WBMA) -- Shortly after 1:40 p.m., a loud 'boom' was heard across North Alabama in Blount, Jefferson, Walker, Cullman, Talladega, Calhoun, Clay, Winston, Randolph, Tuscaloosa, and St. Clair counties. It's the sound everybody is talking about. So much so, Trey Cochran wrote a song about it: Alabamians flocked to Twitter, with many reporting the event shook their homes. Lincoln resident Dawn Stanton described it as "...a propane tank just exploding. I looked and I didn't see nothin' sailing through the air." The National Weather Service in Birmingham hypothesized the sound originated from an aircraft sonic boom or a meteorite from the Leonid shower. NASA's Bill Cooke says the origin of the mysterious boom still remains unclear but shut down the NWS' theory of a Leonid shower meteroite. Cooke says the sound could have been produced by a bolide, large supersonic aircraft or a ground explosion. According to Cooke, NASA's meteor scientists will continue to analyze new data in hopes of determining the cause of the 'boom.' ABC 33/40 has reached out to Maxwell Air Force Base to see if a pilot could have broken the sound barrier with a training exercise.

Essential Skills, Tasks, and Training for Preppers and Survivalists: Part 1 "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

For this article, were going to go into basic focus mode: you start out with the basics and build upon them.  This is the type of mindset and foundation that work for everything in life (basically).  You use it as a format in everything you do, such as building a home or when you begin an exercise program.  In this vein, were going to create a Training METL: A Mission-Essential Task List for your Training as a basis for well-rounding yourself.  This is Part 1 of a 2-part series.

What is your focus?  What type of work do you do?  How do you allocate your time?  A short time ago, I wrote a piece on the importance of self-analysis: creating a true picture of yourself, your strengths, and areas that you need to improve in.  This holds true here, as you identify and prioritize your goals, with an overall objective in mind.  Here is an overall objective for you:

To survive and thrive as you and your family develop physically, mentally, and spiritually to well-round yourselves and prepare for any disaster that arises.

Simple enough.  The Mission-Essential Task List for Training can become a big part in actually realizing that objective and maintaining it.  This METL (called Metal in the Army) for your use will use broad categories to train and prepare that you can refine as your needs change and your skills improve.  Lets start it off!

  1. Physical Training: It all starts here, with whatever you do to be able to hang with the big dogs!  Whether youre a Triathlete, a weightlifter, a boxer, or a swimmer, you need to take your personal forte and tailor it to the maximum productive capacity.  Outline your training schedule, plan short and long-term goals for improvement, and take copious notes!  If youre a swimmer, do you want to swim the English Channel?  If youre a marathon runner, do you want to set a personal record for yourself?  Want to up your max on the bench press by 50 lbs.?  Part of your training is to identify your goals, and work up to them.  Tie in what you can do with the tasks you will need to accomplish as a survivor.  This also has to do with your overall body fat content (what is your goal?) and your measurements of weight, and tape.  Physical training is not an accessory: it is a priority!
  2. Martial/Fighting Arts Training: thi...

Russian grandmaster Karjakin joins Putin Team social movement "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

Russian chess grandmaster Sergei Karjakin has joined the Putin Team social movement. "I have always openly supported Vladimir Putin and now I can finally do that officially. The Putin Team. On November 2, Russian ice hockey star Alexander Ovechkin, who plays for the national team and the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League, wrote on Instagram that he was creating a new social movement calling it the Putin Team. "Personal wins are always good, but as far as ice hockey and any other activity go, being a team is crucial for achieving a victory. Only a team is capable of changing the tide of the game and doing the impossible. As for me, I am ready to become part of such a team," he wrote. Ovechkin pointed out that he "never made a secret of my attitude to our president, always openly supporting him." "I am sure that there are many of us who support Vladimir Putin. So let us come together and show everyone how strong and united Russia can be," the ice hockey star added.

Where I Agree With Mo Brooks "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

In a way, I sympathize with Rep. Mo Brooks of Alabama. I understand how incredibly valuable it is to have a seat in the U.S. Senate, and I wouldnt want to concede one to the Republicans, especially in a dark blue state. The issue is amplified by the fact that the Republicans currently enjoy a narrow 52-48 majority, and we should keep in mind also that John McCain is very ill and that Sen. Thad Cochran of Mississippi has missed time recently because of poor health. The Republicans want to pass a tax bill through the Senate that is dependent on them having fifty seats, at a minimum, and losing the Alabama seat would get them down to a very uneasy fifty-one. Besides these factors, though, I can understand where Brooks is coming from when he says this:

America faces huge challenges that are vastly more important than contested sexual allegations from four decades ago, Brooks said in a text message to Who will vote in Americas best interests on Supreme Court justices, deficit and debt, economic growth, border security, national defense, and the like? Socialist Democrat Doug Jones will vote wrong. Roy Moore will vote right. Hence, I will vote for Roy Moore.

I could say all the same things about Sen. Bob Menendez who is currently on trial in New Jersey for corruption. He may well get off, or at least get a mistrial based on a hung jury, but if he were to be convicted and forced to resign from the Senate, Im sure the person Gov. Chris Christie chose to replace him would vote wrong from my perspective on a whole lot more things than Menendez would.

Personally, though, Id prefer to see Menendez convicted because I think what hes done is every bit as wrong as what Virginia governor Bob McDonnell did, and I think the Supreme Court was wrong to overturn McDonnells conviction. Still, Im impure or partisan enough to hope that, were Menendez found guilty, it would be incoming Democratic governor Phil Murphy who would appoint a replacement for Menendez. I definitely understand the sentiment in favor of finding some way to save the Alabama seat for the Republicans.

Where I differ with Mo Brooks is, first, that I want Menendez held accountable for his actions and Im upset that the Supreme Courts leniency in the McDonnell case might prevent that from happening. In other words, my sense of right or wrong isnt compromised by any sense that I need to be a team player.

Secondly, while I might want to avoid the worst consequences o...

WikiLeaks Looks Like a Russian Front Organization "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

On December 16th, Julian Assange or one of his assistants reached out to Donald Trump Jr. by direct message on Twitter and asked him to make a request of his father, who was then the president-elect. They knew that Australia wouldnt go along with it, but could Trump Sr. please suggest that Assange be appointed as the ambassador to the United States? This would send a message to Sweden, Australia and the U.K. to back off their legal cases.

As far as I can tell, this is the only communication WikiLeaks had with Donald Trump Jr. that didnt directly promote Russias interests.

Lets look at the first communication made via Twitter:

Just before the stroke of midnight on September 20, 2016, at the height of last years presidential election, the WikiLeaks Twitter account sent a private direct message to Donald Trump Jr., the Republican nominees oldest son and campaign surrogate. A PAC run anti-Trump site is about to launch, WikiLeaks wrote. The PAC is a recycled pro-Iraq war PAC. We have guessed the password. It is putintrump. See About for who is behind it. Any comments?

There are a host of issues raised by this communication, including legal questions about what laws may have been broken and by whom. But what stands out to me is that WikiLeaks was interested in something that linked Trump to Putin in a negative way. This was the subject that motivated them to make contact, and Donald Trump Jr. was the one who they thought would be the best person to arm with a stolen password.

The next communication came about a month later during the endgame of the campaign. In one sense, WikiLeaks was trolling for a scoop. They wanted to help neutralize a potential October Surprise by getting their hands on Trumps tax returns themselves before they could be released by an unfriendly source. But, on closer inspection, they primarily wanted the tax returns because it would rectify their reputation for pro-Trump bias and give more weight to the DNC and Podesta-hacked leaks they had been publishing on a rolling basis. Since Russia had procured the emails, this was clearly in Russias interest.

Hey Don. We have an unusual idea, WikiLeaks wrote on October 21, 2016. Leak us one or more of your fathers tax returns. WikiLeaks then laid out three reasons why this would benefit both the Trumps and WikiLeaks. One, The New York Times had already published a fragment of Trumps tax return.......

What Kind of Economic Populism Is This? "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

Theres a lot for Democrats not to like about President Trumps nominee to be the Secretary of Health and Human Services. Chief among then, I suppose, is that Alex Azar clerked for Antonin Scalia and served on Kenneth Starrs investigative team. But I also wonder how much Trumps own supporters should like this pick.

After all, Mr. Azar was until recently the president of Lilly USA, the biggest affiliate of Eli Lilly, a giant pharmaceutical corporation. And I dont recall candidate Trump telling his adoring hordes that the answer to our health care woes is to put Big Pharma in charge.

This is something Ive noticed quite a lot with Trump. Theres a basic disconnect between his rhetoric and his promises on the one hand, and the kind of people hes put in charge of key areas of our economy. It seems like a transparent fraud, and while it might not be met by immediate resistance from his base, theres no sense that hes actually working toward building a new kind of politics or a new kind of Republican Party based on concrete economic populism.

Everything seems restricted to grievance and prejudice, and that doesnt strike me as something that is going to win enduring allegiance, especially if there is an effort to transfer it to new candidates.

Its not quite that there cant be Trumpism without Trumpas people have been debating in recent daysits more that Trumpism doesnt actually exist.

Maybe Trump likes Mr. Azar because hes been an outspoken opponent of Obamacare, or maybe he chose him because he knew the Washington Post would call him a pragmatic pick since he is at least qualified and acceptable to Senate Republicans. But it isnt the kind of pick you make if youre serious about taking the side of your working class base against the rapacious pharmaceutical industry.

It shows how fake Trumps populism really is, and in this sense its no different than his picks of Steve Mnuchin and Gary Cohn to head up his economic team.

How the Republican Party Will Die "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

Gabriel Sherman has done some outstanding reporting and gotten some major scoops, but when he says he has a source who claims that Steve Bannon predicted that Trump has only a thirty percent chance of completing his term, Im not sure if I can take that to the bank. I do know that Bannon is worried about it, because hes said that on the record. Either way, Frank Rich may be correct that it doesnt matter all that much because the Republican Party has been destroyed.

The idea that the pre-Trump GOP will make a post-Trump comeback to vanquish these forces is laughable. Old-line Establishment Republicans in the Senate and the House, even very conservative ones like [Sen. Jeff] Flake, are engaging in self-deportation, as Mitt Romney might say, rather than face a firing squad in the primaries. The Trumpists will with time expunge the rest, including Paul Ryan (whom Bannon has dismissed as a limp-dick motherfucker who was born in a petri dish at the Heritage Foundation, according to Joshua Green in The Devils Bargain). Its a replay of the purge of the 1960s, when the reinvented GOP shaped by Goldwater, Nixon, and the southern strategy shoved aside the likes of Nelson Rockefeller and George Romney. Given that 89 percent of Republicans voted for Trump in November and that 80 percent of todays GOP voters reliably give Trump favorable approval ratings no matter what he has said or done since, that means only a fifth of those Americans identifying as Republicans are (possibly) Never Trumpers.

If Rich is right about all that, then hes probably right about this, as well:

The remains of Establishment Republicanism are at best a Potemkin village. Its too little, too late for the Republican renovation project floated in October by the former George W. Bush speechwriter and passionate Never Trumper Michael Gerson, who imagined that John Kasich, Flake, Ben Sasse, and the like would dream up a compelling alternative to the Bannon appeal.&rdq...

Air pollution is a bigger risk for people with A, B, or AB blood types, study finds "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

People with type A, B, or AB blood have a greater chance of suffering a heart attack or chest pain during episodes of high air pollution compared to those with type O, scientists have found. Researchers warned that people in those groups should consider staying indoors to minimise their risk if they had underlying heart conditions, such as coronary artery disease. Scientists have known for some time that pollution raises the chance of a heart attack but it is the first time that the risk has also been linked to blood type.

Democrats fear Trumps instability could trigger nuclear war no-one wants "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

Donald Trump can launch nuclear codes just as easily as he can use his Twitter account, says one senator during committee hearing

By Jeremy B White San Francisco

The Independent

Democrats are seriously worried Trumps instability could trigger a nuclear war no-one wants

Senate Democrats warned of Donald Trumps mostly unchecked ability to launch nuclear strikes, expressing fears that the President could impulsively initiate a devastating attack.

I would like to be able to tell my constituents and the American people we have a system in place that prevents an impulsive and irrational decision to use nuclear weapons, Senator Ben Cardin, a Maryland Democrat, said at the outset of a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing. Unfortunately, I cannot make that assurance today.

Other Democrat colleagues of Mr Cardin said that Mr Trump is so volatile it  ensured such a move could not be discounted.

We are concerned that the President of the United States is so unstable, is so volatile, has a decision-making process that is so quixotic, that he might order a nuclear weapon strike that is wildly out of step with US national security interests, Connecticut Democrat Chris Murphy said.

Hidden Hyperspace Kingdoms for the Elite: Disney's Tomorrowland, Plus Ultra, Ayn Rand, Mt. Analogue "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

The idea of creating a secret invisible place on Earth for the elect to hide in shows up in Ayn Rands Atlas Shrugged. There, societys elite, lead by a renegade genius engineer, decide to rebel against societys needy, useless masses and retreat into a hidden world of their own. Its an invisible realm theyve named Atlantis, hidden inside the Rocky Mountains by some kind of force field invented by the societys founder, John Galt. This little modern-day Saturn (Lord of Misrule during the legendary Golden Age) populated his hidden kingdom of perfect anarchy with societys true elite. Galt selected them personally and, one by one, presented them with an offer that, for some reason, none of them chose to refuse.
The result is that each of them decides to walk out on his or her life, including all business and family obligations, so that they can disappear into Atlantis in the Rockies, and live without rules or expectations in this land of perfect freedom. In so doing, most of them chose to commit some catastrophic act of sabotage against their own handiwork. Mines, factories, and railways are blown up with explosives, leaving heaping, burning piles of ruin, including a petroleum fire that nobody can put out because everybody smart enough to figure out how has already disappeared into Atlantis.
The man who does this last act in particular leaves behind a sign stating Im leaving it as I found it. This is all connected to the title, of course. Its a fuck you to humanity. The message is: We, the Titans of industry who keep the sky from falling like Atlas, are going to shrug and let everything collapse on top of you. This is the shrug of whatever embodied in the Cremation of Care ceremony at Bohemian Club meetings. The Lake of Fire imagery in the scene mentioned above (the burning pit that cannot be extinguished) is a clear channeling of the spirit of those trapped in Tartarus, enslaved and forced to hold up the pillars of Heaven and Earth (or Solomons Temple, as its presented in The Te...

After child rape cases acquitted, French Justice Minister Nicole Belloubet considers lowering age of consent to 13 "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

Is a 13-year-old old enough to agree to sex with an adult? That's a question France is asking as the government prepares to set a legal age for sexual consent for the first time. Twice in recent weeks, French courts have refused to prosecute men for rape after they had sex with 11-year-old girls because authorities couldn't prove coercion. Amid the public disbelief over the situation, the French government is drafting a bill to say that sex with children under a certain age is by definition coercive. Comment: Previously: France considering setting age of sexual consent at 13 after man is acquitted of raping 11yo girlMan acquitted of rape of 11 year old girl by French jurors Justice Minister Nicole Belloubet provoked consternation among feminist groups Monday by saying a legal minimum age of 13 for sexual consent "is worth considering." Living samples of planet's oldest life forms found in Australia "IndyWatch Feed Allaunews"

Living specimens of stromatolites - the oldest evidence of life on Earth - have been found deep within a remote, protected World Heritage Area in Tasmania, Australia. Stromatolites date back some 3.7 billion years and are regarded as a crucial piece of the puzzle that make up Earth's geological history - thanks to their layers of cyanobacteria, which comprise biofilm. These trap sediment and minerals from the water and cement them in place. The stromatolite layers then painstakingly build up overtime to form rock structures.

The EPO is Now Corrupting Academia, Wasting Stakeholders Money Lying to Stakeholders About the Unitary Patent (UPC) "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

UPC boat

Summary: The Unified Patent Court/Unitary Patent (UPC) is a dying project and the EPO, seeing that it is going nowhere fast, has resorted to new tactics and these tactics cost a lot of money (at the expense of those who are being lied to)

NOT a day goes by without some EPO scandal (large or small). Its like watching the action on the deck of the Titanic while worrying for the fate of helpless passengers aboard.

Those so-called studies published by the EPO are mendacious speak totally worthless
Yesterday, as noted by Benjamin Henrion (FFII), the EPO wrote: New report finds that the #UnitaryPatent could significantly enhance technology transfer in the EU. Other findings here

Ive asked them: New report or new lies?

Henrion responded by saying enhance patent litigation in the EU.

Because it has nothing to do with technology transfer whatever exactly that means (it usually gets used as a euphemism for licensing, amicable of coerced for).

they actually do the opposite by suppressing permanent employment for new recruits from 1st January 2018 at the EPO. The impact on patent quality will be huge. But still, Battistelli prefers burning money by producing pro-UPC lies!
Funnily enough, the EPO has once again linked to localhost:8080 in its official news feed (RSS) an issue which they only fixed later in the day and several days too late. Are any competent workers left at the EPO? They appear to have misconfigured their software. Did some key IT staff leave? Either way, the news at hand (warning: link) says the report was carried out by a team of economists from the EPO, the University of Colorado Boulder and the London School of Economics

They did that for a fee, or with direct support from the EPO. The chief economist of the EPO seems like an old French mate of Battistelli and we have repeatedly caught him lying about the UPC.

What we see here is the EPO basically wasting a lot of money. Its payi...

A misogynist by any other name would smell just as putrid "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

On August 10 earlier this year, I concluded that the weakly supported theory of autogynephilia (AGP) remains popular among a certain subset of sexologists because of its utility for dismissing trans women. A careful look at the methodology that produced the theory quickly demonstrates its fatal flaws, and yet the theory is, to this day, occasionally cited as a reason to dismiss a trans womans opinion as unreliable. In brief review, the theory posits that there are two (and only two) etiologies by which gender dysphoria is produced in trans women: The first, the bizarre and easily falsified notion that it is easier to be a trans woman than an effeminate gay man; the second, sexual arousal at the thought of oneself as possessing culturally female attributes. The former are confusingly named homosexual, (as in women attracted to men), the latter heterosexual (as in women attracted to women). Science!

Ray Blanchard was only able to propose this conclusion by ignoring vast portions of his data and framing his subjects as liars, thus rendering his theory unfalsifiable when tested with his own methodology. The theory, naturally, doesnt pan out when investigated by Blanchards peers.

The first is that Ray Blanchard never actually compared his results with a control group, which to anyone acquainted with the scientific method is a pretty egregious oversight. When Dr. Charles Moser did just that and posed Blanchards survey to cisgender women, he found that 93% of cisgender women classified as autogynephilic. If we were to accept AGP as a valid scientific theory, we would have to claim that 93% of cisgender women are suffering from a pandemic of erotic location errors. In other words, all Blanchard discovered was that most women pictured themselves with breasts and vulvae in their sexual fantasies, and are frequently aroused by the interactions they imagine with said characteristics. There is nothing specific to this that justifies singling out trans women the way Blanchards taxonomy does, unless you think women arent supposed to be sexual creatures and that the presence of sexual desire in trans women therefore deems us men. (One wonders where this puts all the allosexual and even some ace-spectrum women, who Im sure will be surprised to learn theyve been doing their sexual desire wrong all this time.)......

Its always difficult to agree to finance a blockbuster film, said President of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige. But we crunched the numbers and it looks like Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America, The Avengers, Iron Man 3, Thor: Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ant-Man, Captain America: Civil War, Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, Spider-Man Homecoming, and Thor: Ragnarok managed to do well enough in theaters for us to justify making another superhero movie and we are really excited about that.

Its uncertain if this next superhero movie will also be a success but given the last 17 films we have made, its definitely possible, he added. We are not sure what the story will be yet, but we are thinking it will star a snarky wise-cracking protagonist.

What do you do when you need to change everything? "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

We can do better. This is not what a strong, successful America looks like.

We can do better. This is not what a strong, successful America looks like.

Our cities are struggling financially. But culturally, we lack a common understanding to explain why this is, let alone decide what to do about it.

Many people want to believe were simply not paying enough taxes. Others believe that our tax rates are too high. We might have too little regulation, or not enough. Some say we need an active government, and some, more of a free market... But at Strong Towns, we dont see things in such binary ways.

Plenty of Americans wish we would listen to the experts and hand things over to the people who claim they know what needs to be done. Others believe we have too many experts, and that they know a lot less than they think they do... Were more nuanced here at Strong Towns; a little expertise combined with a lot of humility can be a powerful force for good.

A Cultural Consensus That Lacks Real Understanding

One area where we have something approaching an American cultural consensus is our need to spend more money on infrastructure. Left, right, center... it seems most people can agree on this. But Strong Towns advocates think differently.

What we at Strong Towns have seen so clearly is that our cities struggle not from the lack of a cultural consensus, but because of one. Weve structured our economy around the principles of the Suburban Experiment, an approach to growth that provides lots of short-term rewards at the expense of our long-term strength and resiliency. Our cultural consensus on infrastructure spending is built on false statistics and short-term planning, but it lacks a common understanding about the root causes of financial failure and financial success.

Sweden faces challenges in academic freedom as intersectional ideology comes knocking "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

"You will include Judith Butler in your course." That was announced to Erik Ringmar, senior lecturer in the Department of Political Science at Lund University, after the September meeting of the department's board of directors. Not that there's anything wrong with reading the queer studies feminist Butler. It's just that the course Ringmar teaches is primarily about the reaction to modernity at the turn of the last century, with a focus on fascism. During earlier semesters it included a part about postmodernism, and within it Butler, but it was removed because it didn't fit in with the rest of the course. "There is not a course committee in the world which can force me to teach Judith Butler unless I want to," Ringmar wrote on his blog. This has led to strong protests from student activists, the board, the director of studies and the dean. Of course, this is no great catastrophe in and of itself. It's just a literature list, after all. But it is part of a much larger process by which academic freedom in Sweden is being circumscribed. What is happening now in the political science department at Lund University is fully sanctioned by the gender mainstreaming that the government has ordered all Swedish universities to implement (more on that later).

Following meetings with Qatars Prime Minister, Finance Minister and other senior Government Officials, while on his return from the APEC Summit in Viet Nam, Prime Minister ONeill said the key outcome of the visit is a further demonstration of the urgent need for Papua New Guinea to properly diversify the Nations economic base.
We have been talking about diversifying our economy to maximise gains for some time, and now is the time to act so we can build our key sectors into the future, the Prime Minister said at the meetings in Doha.

Palestinian hopes for Egypt border opening dashed for now "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

AFP | Palestinians wait for travel permits to cross into Egypt through the Rafah border crossing after it was briefly opened on August 16, 2017

GAZA CITY (PALESTINIAN TERRITORIES) (AFP)  Palestinian leaders hoped a recently signed reconciliation agreement would lead to Egypt reopening its border with the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, but those hopes seem to have been dashed.

Egypt has kept its crossing with Gaza largely closed in recent years, while the territory has also been under an Israeli blockade for more than a decade.

Israel has fought three wars with Hamas, the Islamist movement that runs the Gaza Strip, since 2008.

Hamas and rival Palestinian faction Fatah, which is based in the occupied West Bank, signed a landmark reconciliation deal last month aimed at ending their decade-long split.

The agreement mediated by Egypt led to president Mahmud Abbass Palestinian Authority retaking control of Gazas borders on November 1.

The PA is supposed to retake full civil control of the Gaza Strip by December 1.

Palestinian leaders had said they hoped one result of the deal would be the opening of Egypts Rafah border with the Gaza Strip on November 15.

On Wednesday, Palestinian officials said they were still awaiting word from Egypt.

We dont have any information about when Rafah border will reopen again, Nazmi Muhanna, in charge of border crossings for the Palestinian Authority, told AFP.

Cracks have emerged in the reconciliation deal, particularly over security control of the Gaza Strip.

Hamas is refusing to disarm its military wing as Abbas wants.

Security in Egypts Sinai Peninsula is also thought to be one of Cairos concerns.

Egyptian security forces have been fighting a branch of the Islamic State group in the Sinai.

Egypt is expected to host another meeting of Palestinian factions in Cairo on November 21 to discuss next steps in the reconciliation process.

Bitcoin Price Watch; Getting Straight To It "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

We are heading into the middle of the week and it is time to take the first of our twice-daily looks at the bitcoin price in an attempt to cobble together a strategy that we can use to try and draw a profit from the market if and when we see any volatility going forward.

Normally, we take a look at what happened overnight so as to garner a bit of insight into how price brought us to where things stand. Right now, however, things are moving pretty fast, so we arent going to waste any time going over previous action. Instead, because we dont want to miss a trade, we are going to jump right into our analysis and get some key levels in place straight away.

So, with this noted, lets kick things off for the session today. As ever, take a quick look at the chart below before we get started so as to get an idea where things stand. It is a one-minute candlestick chart and it has our range overlaid in green.

As the chart shows, the range we are looking at for the session today comes in as defined by support to the downside at 6886 and resistance to the upside at 6950.

We are going to stick with our breakout strategy, so we will put our intrarange approach on the back burner for the time being.

Looking to the upside and to our first potential entry, we will jump in long towards an immediate upside target of 7000 flat if we see a break above resistance. A stop loss on the trade at 6935 looks good from a risk management perspective.

Looking south, if we get a close below support, we will jump in short towards a downside target of 6830. Again we need a stop loss on this one and somewhere in the region of 6900 looks like it should do the job.

Lets see how things play out.

Emmanuel Macron faces first revolt as 100 party members resign over 'arrogant, undemocratic' ways "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

Emmanuel Macron is facing his first internal revolt since his lightning rise to the French presidency after 100 members of his centrist movement announced they were stepping down due to its "arrogant" and "undemocratic" methods. Mr Macron, 39, swept to victory in May in part thanks to the help of an army of grassroots supporters, many with no prior political experience and who were promised they would all have a say in the way his newly-created movement would be run. But sixth months into the presidency, 100 members of his centrist Republic on the Move (LREM) party - from students to elected officials - say they are throwing in the towel, claiming the party as an "affront to the fundamental principles of democracy with an organisational style worthy of the Ancien Rgime".

Ongoing Developments in the P2P Food Commons "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

I was please to see a discussion on P2P food system as a major environmental and social solution? started by Robert LaRocque on the Loomio group of the CommonsTransition group. There are *so* many great resources on the transition back to a decentralized, sustainable food supply, thanks especially to folks like the biodynamics and organics movements, the permaculture and slow food movements that grew out of their compost heaps, and the transition movement that grew out of permaculture.

Firstly, check out the Localizing Food Project, spearheaded by one of my permaculture teachers, Robina McCurdy of Earthcare Education Aotearoa. Robina travelled the length of this country connecting with local food projects, and is producing a series of crowdfunded documentary films covering different aspects of them. The latest one is Edible Paradise - Growing the Food Forest Revolution.

Secondly, have a browse through Appropedia, a crowdsourced mediawiki site for appropriate technology, PracticalPlants and Plants for a Future. which are the same thing but for articles about plants. Theres also OpenSourceEcology, a development project for appropriate tech based at FactorE Farms. Also WikiHouse, its not about food, but like OpenSourceEcology it does demonstrate the way the crowdsourcing and human-centred design principles behind wikis and free code software can be applied to creating new stuff on the physical layer.

Thirdly, it was great to see from the responses in the comments that there are Open Food Network folk participating in the group too. I had a great conversation about the OFN vision when I met OFN co-founder Serenity Hill at the first Open Sour...

Israel Raises Alert Level Fearing Islamic Jihad Retaliation for Gaza Tunnel Bombing; Anti-rocket Systems Deployed "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

Heightening of nationwide alert follows threats by Gaza-based militant group to avenge killing of 12 of its fighters; comes amid raised tensions in Israels north after army downs Syrian drone

The Israeli military raised its alert level on Monday, taking various measures in the wake of new assessments that the Islamic Jihad will attempt a revenge attack. The leadership of the Gaza-based group is threatening revenge over Israels bombing of a cross-border attack tunnel near Gaza two weeks ago, in which 12 members of Islamic Jihad and Hamas were killed. These measures, which are considered exceptional, included the deployment of anti-rocket Iron Dome batteries in central Israel, but not the calling up of reservists. This is the first time such measures were taken since the 2014 Gaza war ended.

The assessments regarding Islamic Jihad involve a range of possibilities on the Gaza border and further beyond. The organization controls dozens of Grad-type Katyusha rockets with a range of over 40 kilometers, capable of hitting Ashdod and Beer Sheva, and possibly even longer-range rockets. The group also still has operational capabilities in certain areas of the West Bank, including the Jenin area, but it is unclear whether it could carry out an attack. Islamic Jihad is under pressure both from Israels security services and the Palestinian Authoritys intelligence apparatus.

Israel and Islamic Jihad have exchanged threats over the past few days. The coordinator of government activities in the territories, Gen. Yoav Mordechai, announced in Arabic on Saturday a warning that Islamic Jihad is playing with fire on the backs of residents of the Gaza Strip, and at the expense of the internal Palestinian reconciliation and the entire region. Mordechai stressed in the video message: Just to be clear, Israel will respond forcefully and resolutely to any Islamic Jihad reaction whatsoever not just against Jihad, but also against Hamas. The video concluded, We advise Islamic Jihads leadership in Damascus to exercise caution and keep things under control.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday that Israel holds Hamas responsible for any attack originating from Gaza. We will take a very firm stance aga...
