Farmers Market Wayville "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

Adelaide families now have the opportunity buy fresh food directly from producers from all over SA at the Adelaide Showground Farmers Market. The 20,000 strong crowd that turned up for the farmers market which formed the centrepiece of the 'Go Organic Festival' in September in 2005 encouraged the Royal Agricultural and Horticultural Society (RAHS) to back the foundation of a permanent farmers market by a not-for-profit community organisation. The market opened on October 1st 2006 with a massive crowd of 10,000 shoppers and runs each Sunday (apart from the weeks of the Royal Show) from 9am-1pm.

In the tradition of farmers markets, it is a food market at which both food producers and consumers can get a fair price for food produced in SA and support regional and sustainable land use. The market guarantees that you buy direct from the producer and is known for its strict adherence to the ethics of farmers markets which now number in their thousands worldwide as families seek to avoid overstored food from major retailers who pass on meagre prices to farmers. In Australia, the farmers market movement is represented by the Australian Farmers Market Association and SA's peak body, the SA Farmers Market Association, will soon be launched.

The Adelaide Showground location is superb, with a major bike trail, the Glenelg tram line, a major rail line, numerous bus routes all converging to make it one of the most accessible sites in Adelaide. Parking is also easy and cheap.

120 producers offer their extraordinarily diverse products (everything from oysters to almonds and bread to boysenberries!). It is accessed from the car parks at the Leader Street (southern) end of the Showgrounds.

Becoming a member brings with it 10% discount on all purchases as well as a right to vote in the management of the market. Details and memberships are available at

The Food Forest is a foundation stallholder at the market and presents a wide range of foods, always including its signature specialty - organically certified pistachio nuts. We are there on alternate weeks (we run short courses on the other weekends).

People Find Creepy Warehouse Full Of Bags And Can't Believe What's Inside "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Four years ago, when officials in Vietnam entered a warehouse they suspected was being used by a wildlife tracker, they had a general idea of what they might find. But nothing could have prepared them for the sobering discovery they were about to make.

As the investigators canvassed the space, they found pile upon pile of tightly-closed bags sitting on the floors, seemingly ready for shipment. They werent moving, and the rooms smelled of death and chemicals.

Credit: Facebook/ENV

Inside the bags were with the bodies of countless dead sea turtles caught one by one from the wild to be sold in China.

To see so many marine turtles, well, it was shocking, Mr. K, an anonymous investigator on the case, previously told National Geographic about the raid. It was crazy.

Other rooms were packed to the ceilings with taxidermied bodies, their once-stunning shells covered in dust and their little faces dried and shriveled. They were stacked as if they were furniture.

Credit: Facebook/ENV

Investigators were able to use the discovery to track down five other secret warehouses, where they found the same disturbing stock. In all, they recovered nearly 7,000 turtle bodies weighing in at over 22,000 pounds.

The animals were mostly hawksbill turtles, a critically endangered species native to the coral triangle region of the Asian pacific. There are as few as 8,000 laying females left in the wild today.

These turtles are fundamental in keeping seagrass beds and reefs healthy but their beautiful brown and yellow shells are heavily sought after to be turned into jewelry and other ornaments....

Texas Republican Party Endorses Marijuana, Medical Cannabis, Industrial Hemp Decriminalization

By Heather CallaghanEditor

Wonders never cease!

Delegates at the Republican Party of Texas convention voted their approval on Saturday for platforms endorsing marijuana decriminalization, medical cannabis and industrial hemp.

Not only that, but the Party delegates are actually calling for a change in cannabiss Schedule classification by the federal government.

Forbes reported on Sunday:

We support a change in the law to make it a civil, and not a criminal, offense for legal adults only to possess one ounce or less of marijuana for personal use, punishable by a fine of up to $100, but without jail time, reads one of the partys new positions.

Congress should remove cannabis from the list of Schedule 1, says another.

A third asks lawmakers to expand an existing state law that provides patients with limited access to low-THC medical cannabis extracts so that doctors can determine the appropriate use of cannabis to certified patients.

And a fourth says industrial hemp is a a valuable agricultural commodity.

Im Sick of Apologizing for Being White When Theres So Many Other Things I Should Be Apologizing For "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Prick up your Commie ears, Libtards! Because Im only going to say this once. I REFUSE to apologize for being white. And yes, I am brave for saying that.

I dont care how many times I imagine you asking me to do it. Being white is the last thing I should apologize for, because I have done way worse things than be white:

I Was Rude to My Stepdad

Without a doubt this is the worst thing I have ever done.

One day Im in the parlor trying to get the familys Pachinko machine buzzing again, when my stepdad Rory bursts in with a song and dance about dishing out spearmint ice milk. I promptly tell him to put an egg in his shoe and beat it.

The look on his face still haunts me.

I Convinced Vince McMahon to Start Up the XFL (Twice)

And like a little clown devil on his shoulder, I convinced him to dump $100 Million (in 1999 bucks, no less!) into the unmitigated failure that was the XFL. And apparently I cant keep my clown wrasslin mouth shut, because I just convinced Vince to start up the league again in 2020.

Sadly, it wasnt until I dipped the whole baby in my mouth and then pulled out its little skeleton like a cartoon cat with a fish that I realized I goofed majorly.

The prime minister's wife and a deputy director of the PM's Office are indicted for violating regulations barring the ordering of meals when a cook is on the residence's staff

Sara Netanyahu, the wife of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, was indicted on Thursday for alleged "systematic fraud" involving hundreds of thousands of shekels in connection with meal expenses incurred at the Prime Minister's Residence.

Sara Netanyahu was charged along with Ezra Saidoff, a former deputy director general of the Prime Minister's Office. The two are charged in an indictment filed at the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court with aggravated fraudulent receiving of an item or items, fraud and breach of trust. Saidoff was also charged with falsification by a public servant.

According to the indictment, the prime minister's wife instructed staff at the Prime Minister's Residence in Jerusalem to order meals consumed at the residence worth a total of 350,000 shekels ($96,000) from gourmet restaurants between 2010 and 2013 in violation of rules barring the residence from ordering meals from the outside during periods when there was a cook on its staff.

Investigators in the case gathered evidence that purportedly shows that the prime minister's wife ordered that the employment of the cook be concealed and also showed that she was aware that ordering meals from the outside for the residence when it employed a cook was a violation of the rules.

Sustainable Prepping : 5 Alternative Energy Types for When the SHTF "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

There are actually a lot of different types of energy sources to tap into after a disaster strikes. One of the major differences is that unless you have formed some kind of intentional community or have a group of like-minded individuals in your area, you will be the engineer, the mechanic, and the maintenance man all rolled into one.

To digress just a bit, this is why shows such as The Colony (the reality show, not the aliens), and Doomsday Preppers are productive for the introduction of ideas. Those ideas need to be researched and employed, in that order.

Lets cover some methods to generate energy and provide power, and discuss the positive and negative aspects of each one.

  1. Wood:  absolutely a mainstay after disaster strikes. Ive written several pieces on the benefits of wood stoves: for cooking, boiling water for washing, laundry, and drinking, and of course, for heat. For those with a fireplace and no woodstove, a set of Dutch ovens (cast-iron cookware) and a kettle that can be hung within it are good for starters. There are also racks out there for hanging laundry and taking advantage of the heat from the fireplace or the woodstove. The main problems with the woodstove are fuel and security. First, you need to lay in a good supply of wood long before either the winter and/or the disaster strikes. Secondly, the wood fire produces smoke, something that cannot be concealed, and this will alert others to your location.
  2. Solar:  Its always worthwhile to throw some panels up on the roof, as these can give at least a trickle charge, if not power everything you have. Undertaking this is fairly uncomplicated. During your spring, summer, and fall months, youll get a lot out of it. Winter is a different matter: not just for the snow, but also for the gray days where you wont receive that much light. There are even solar generators. This solar generator is a complete kit and all you need to do is point, plug, and power up! For the bug-out-bag, you can find portable solar panels that roll up for easy tight-fitting spaces.
  3. Wind: There are plenty of kits out there that will enable you to throw up one or more windmills, and these can take up the slack for the solar panels on days that there is not much in the way of the sun. Windmills also need to be maintained a little more, as they can be damaged or have a breakdown from the moving parts.......

Read a Huge Annotated Online Edition of Frankenstein: A Modern Way to Celebrate the 200th Anniversary of Mary Shelleys Classic Novel "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Born out of evening reading of spooky stories on a rain-soaked holiday, Mary Shelleys 1818 novel Frankenstein has resonated through the years into pop culture, a warning against science and technology, of how the thirst for knowledge can literally create monsters. If youve been binging Westworld or loved Ex Machina you are seeing Shelleys legacy, both filled with scientific creations that question their own reason for existence.

Just like those works are products of our era, Frankenstein did not just arise from a dream state-Shelley was influenced by the concerns, events, and news of her day.

Annotated for scientists, engineers, and creators of all kinds, is how the website describes the project, created in January 2018 by Arizona State University to honor the bicentennial of the books publication. Frankenbook gives readers the opportunity to trace the scientific, technological, political, and ethical dimensions of the novel, and to learn more about its historical context and enduring legacy.

You will have to sign up (just an email and a password is necessary) to actually see the novel, but once in, you can get reading. Along the way on the right hand side of the margin, a cluster of black dots indicate if a section is annotated. Click on the dots with your mouse and the annotation will appear. (The annotations are also available at the end of each of the novel's three parts for those who just want to read the novel straight through.)

Dozens of experts have contributed to the annotations so far, and opening an account allows you to submit your own to the editors for consideration. You can also filter annotations by one of eight themes: Equity & Inclusion (social justice issues), Health & Medicine, Influences and Adaptations, Mary Shelley (personal information about the author), Motivations & Sentiments, Philosophy & Pol...

Celebrating the States: The Rockies "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

When I was working on the Midwest post a few weeks ago, I was surprised at my lack of knowledge about states in my own region. North Dakota, Indiana and Ohio feel removed from my life in the Midwest and I tend to exclude them when thinking about Middle America. Now that Ive been preparing and researching for todays feature on the Rocky Mountain states, its even more clear to me that I am possibly more in need of these D*S articles than our readers. While I can say Ive visited every region in the United States, the nuances and unique aspects of each state have been warped into generalizations in my mind. I love how writing these features is starting to change that for me.

While there are technically eight states that can be considered in the Mountain West region of the U.S., today Im focusing on the four northern-most states in the group Montana, Idaho, Wyoming and Colorado. Dont worry, the other states will be covered as part of other regions. This region is known for beautiful scenery, cultural hubs, outdoor recreation and neighborly living. Poppycock nonsense, he said, We Tories are fiercely proud of our contribution towards growth in the banking sector. You only have to look at the proliferation of food banks on our high streets. Theres even one opening near me in Islington next week.

Even nurses are using them now. Thats got to be a spiffing endorsement, continued Boris.

To be fair, Boris is not without his own personal achievements. Unilaterally having proved that blonds do have more fun, if only because they are too dumb to realise their transgressions; he has also revived the otherwise archaic word, buffoon, bringing it kicking and screaming into the 21st Century.

When challenged that possibly, that the emergence of food banks was directly correlated to the Titanic-like launch of Universal Credit, he noted Er, thats not my department, before swiftly cycling away. And as the good Flagship initiative, Universal Credit, sinks further under the waves of unrelenting criticism, the original architect of its design has taken the curious unprecedented step to distance himself further from the policy.

Beagles are Docile and Trusting - and That's Why Corporations Use Them For Lab Tests

By Brandon TurbevilleNatural Blaze

An illuminating report by Glenn Greenwald and Leighton Akio Woodhouse of The Intercept entitled Bred To Suffer, has shed some much needed light on the animal testing industry and the utter cruelty inflicted upon innocent animals for corporate gains and, many times, absolutely no reason whatsoever.

While Greenwald and Woodhouse focus on the dog experimentation industry, it should be kept in mind that dogs are not the only animals used. Cats, rabbits, monkeys, guinea pigs, rats, are also victims in horrific numbers. Most of these animals are bred for experimentation never to experience a moment of freedom or kindness to live a life of extreme torture and, when the torture is done, they are killed for no longer being of use. For these animals, a short existence is the best they can hope for. Dying at birth is a blessing.

While Americans may be rightfully horrified at the...

Ethiopia is approving the new genetically modified crop as growing expansion of GMOs threatens to overtake the African continent in what can only be described as Western corporate imperialism.

Reports of Off-Target Injury From Dicamba Skyrocket as Summer Hits

By Brandon TurbevilleNatural Blaze

Troubling amounts of off-target injury reports are coming from across the South and Midwest of the United States from 2, 4-D dicamba spraying. The new reports are forcing weed scientists and regulators to urge farmers that are going to utilize dicamba to stay on label.

According to Texas A&M Extension Cotton Specialist Gaylon Morgan, cotton growers in Texas are seeing more dicamba damage to cotton than would otherwise be considered normal during this time of year. Larry Steckel, University of Tennessee Extension weed scientist has also seen a number of reports of injury in the Western part of the state and at least one dicamba injury report.

Dicamba injury complaints have been filed in Oklahoma, Missouri, Iowa, Indiana, and Arkansas according to the American Association of Pesticide Control Officers, primarily on non-soybean plants including vegetables, fruits, ornamentals, and trees.

Morgan states that applicator confusion about spray buffers is probably the most common reason of the damage in Texas. If there is susceptible crop downwind from your field, you cannot spray when the wind is blowing in that direction there are no buffers that allow you to spray, he said. I think that is the single bigge...

Drummer Really Doesnt Need Help from Singer Bashing on Floor Tom "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

SEATTLE Friar Radcliffe drummer Daniel McCleary was allegedly annoyed late last night by the persistent bashing of his floor tom by frontman Jeffrey Wilderman during the entirety of their headlining set, multiple sources confirmed.

Im pretty confident I have the whole being the drummer thing under control, said McCleary in between songs. Maybe it wouldnt be so bad if he used his own sticks but he insists on wrestling one out of my hand mid-beat. Then, once hes done fucking me up, he just throws my stick off to the side. I had to play half a song with a marker I had in my pocket.

However, Wilderman believes his on-stage antics add to the intensity of the bands live shows.

I fancy myself a renaissance man of sorts, what with my emotive floor tom playing its like that of the frescos decorating the Sistine Chapel, said Wilderman, annotating a book of Robert Frost poems. Dannys back there, and, yeah, he keeps good time but is he having a good time? Without me, this band is nothing more than four talented musicians playing their chosen instruments competently.

Other band members confirmed Wilderman has dabbled in their instruments at Friar Radcliffe shows, too.

Sometimes, during instrumental breaks, hell walk up behind me, yank the capo off my guitar, and lay his index finger over the strings instead, said guitarist Alicia Lisbon, wiping her fretboard of bourbon stains left by the bands frontman. Our keyboard player quit after our third show because Jeff kept headbutting the keys and helping.

Unfortunately, McCleary admitted Wildermans gratuitous instrumental forays has only elevated his resentment.

I tolerated the tambourine, the maracas even the mallet hed use on my crash cymbal. But hes going too far, said McCleary, attempting to tape a drumstick split in half by Wilderman back together. The most frustrating part besides playing off-rhythm, and louder than I do is that Ive offered to give him lessons for years, but he always turns them down.

If youll excuse me, McCleary the...

Testing Out the New Credit-Card Shaped Hardware Wallet

Last month we reported on the Coolwallet S hardware wallet launched by the Taiwanese financial-tech company founded by Michael Ou. The wallet is different than other wallets we have reviewed in the past like the Keepkey, Ledger nano, and Digital Bitbox because the Coolwallet is shaped like a traditional credit card. On June 20 our new Coolwallet arrived from Taiwan and when we observed the package the box was sealed very nicely. In fact, the Coolwallets packaging was sealed so tight you need a tool like a pocket knife to open the box, which is also sealed with special Coolwallet branded foil tape.

What Life Is Really Like for a Venezuelan Mom "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

This report was originally published by J. G. Martinez D. at The Organic Prepper

Did you ever wonder what the life of a mother in Venezuela is like?

This is not a fictional story. It is a couple of days in the life of one of our best friends, in our country, under the current conditions. Her son suffers from diabetes. He is 12 years old and has lost one tooth because he is malnourished and needs a special diet. Well call her L.

The Morning

She woke up early, around 6 AM. After using just a drop of toothpaste, and a tiny little bit of what used to be a soap bar for washing her face, she dressed and went to her kids bedroom. He was already awake, but still in bed. Another drop of toothpaste, and using the same tiny bit of soap, he was ready for breakfast. This was just a piece of boiled tapioca, with a teaspoon of margarine, and a tiny bit of ground cheese on top. A banana, and a glass of water. Eggs are a luxury item, usually left for the weekends breakfast. A fulltime shower before leaving would be a waste of soap, better to sleep clean at night because going to bed fresh is better once the lights go out and the air conditioning stops working.

She walked her kid about   mile to school, in streets half empty, with very few cars. This is not surprising. There is no money for oil changes nor tires or batteries. There are express assaults often, usually with a couple of men on a small Chinese motorcycle (bought by the government and sold under subsidies for the poor people who needed a vehicle), with the one on the back seat jumping off the bike with a gun, and robbing the bystanders.

With eyes on her back, and very alert, after dropping the kid at school she walked to the avenue, just for trying to find a cattle truck or any other farm truck that are transporting people to the downtown where she worked. After texting on her old cellphone and saying she was already waiting for a truck, she quickly hid her phone inside her jeans. After 35 minutes of waiting, a truck appeared, loaded with people up to the roof. She paid to the chauffeur and the passengers helped her to climb up. A taxi is no longer an option.

Most of the people are working the taxi just under request, because of the...

Welcome to Day 4 of our pattern download series from Marina Dunbar. We shared a gorgeous tour of Marinas studio earlier this year and she was kind enough to make five of her pieces available as free desktop and device downloads. Thanks, Marina! Todays pattern veers back to the tropical influence Marina says inspires her about her new home in Charleston, SC. As she notes, Watercolor and inks lend themselves to the buildup of layers capturing traces of time and transformation. I, for one, am amazed that by simply manipulating her backgrounds, Marina is able to create such true-to-life, organic-looking pieces like todays leaf motif.

Abundant Renewable Energy Makes Iceland a Crypto Mining Powerhouse "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Few countries around the world lend themselves to cryptocurrency mining. Iceland has always been a key region in this regard. Although it was never designed to become a hub for cryptocurrency mining, this new business model has introduced a few changes in the country over the years. It is expected the number of Icelandic cryptocurrency mining operations will increase in the future.

Iceland Becomes an Unexpected Mining Hub

Cryptocurrency mining requires various key factors to be both successful and profitable. A cold climate will certainly help to cool the necessary hardware. However, it is more important to have access to cheap and abundant electricity. Iceland checks all of these boxes and more. It also explains why this European country has become of the biggest Bitcoin mining hotbeds in the world today.

With the Bitcoin network hashrate growing steadily over the years, it is evident the concept of mining is still popular. That is a good sign, even though setting up such operations isnt cheap. Thanks to Icelands cheap renewable energy, however, recovering the initial investment can occur relatively quickly. Additionally, most existing mining operations continue to expand to accommodate more ASIC mining hardware. Generating Bitcoins becomes more competitive and difficult as time progresses.

Iceland has all of the accommodations Bitcoin mining firms need. Theres a reliable power grid,  a strong focus on renewable energy, and plenty of locations to set up shop. As long as there are both internet and electricity, setting up a mining operation can be considered worthwhile. This doesnt just apply to mining Bitcoin either, as a fair few firms are actively mining altcoins such as Ethereum and ZCash.

A Growing Industry Raises Concerns

As has been well-documented in the past, cryptocurrency mining requires a lot of electricity. That situation is no different in Iceland. In fact, some experts claim the domestic mining firms will use more electricity compared to all homes in Iceland ...

City of Berkeley demands forced depopulation to halt climate change crisis that it claims is worse than the Holocaust "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Leave it to the liberals to not only engage in mass hysteria over purported climate changes, but to also call for a host of ridiculous, overbearing government efforts to put a band-aid on the problem. Berkeley City Council members just put forth a motion, proclaiming that there is a global climate emergency and theyre calling it the the greatest crisis in history. The drama doesnt end there; according to the loony leftists, climate change is responsible for more devastation to humanity than World War II which is considered the deadliest conflict in history.

The Berkeley City Council claims that the U.S. has disproportionately contributed to the climate and ecological crises and to preventing a transition away from fossil fuels, and Americans thus bear an extraordinary responsibility to solve the crises. Among these extraordinary responsibilities is a call to thin the herd, at the behest of a city council from one of the most liberal cities in the country.

Hardly representative of the rest of the nation (and the rest of the scientific community, for that matter), the Council declared that depopulation efforts are our best chance at turning back time. The Councils resolution stated reversing ecological overshoot and halting the sixth mass extinction requires an effort to preserve and restore half Earths biodiversity in interconnected wildlife corridors and to humanely stabilize population.

Is there really a way to humanely stabilize the population? Further, isnt it a bit of a stretch to say that the government needs to get involved with how many children people are having? In May of 2018, it was revealed that birth rates in the U.S. have already reached a....

The Tactile Pull of Keith Smiths Book Art "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Keith Smith, Keith Smith, Book Number 11, Up (1969), artists book with photographs, drawings, prints, and transparencies (courtesy of Bruce Silverstein Gallery, New York; Keith Smith)

PHILADELPHIA Long before the ubiquity of digital technologies transformed the book, artist Keith Smith was engaged in prescient redefinition and innovation. Though Smith has worked for decades and produced hundreds of innovative photo-books and artworks, he lives and works in Rochester, New York, and aside from occasional shows with his New York gallery Bruce Silverstein, largely shies away from the commercial art scene. Its extremely fitting, then, that his medium of choice is the book, embodying the long held belief that books allow for a more intimate, personal, tactile experience. Intimacy is key to his works, which often feature self-portraits, images of his partner, and views of the interior of their home. An exhibition at the Philadelphia Museum of Art featuring more than 70 artworks plays on this quality with its title, Keith Smith at Home, recognizing both Smiths cloistered nature and the intimate themes present in his art.

Amber deposits yield oldest evidence of frogs in wet, tropical forests "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

Tropical rainforests are home to the vast majority of the worlds frog species today. Yet frog fossils from these moist environments have been incredibly rare, largely because the small animals have tiny bones, which make preservation difficult, and the wet conditions usually lead to their quick decomposition. This lack of frog fossil records has made it hard for researchers to build a picture of the earlier ecosystems the amphibians may have occupied. But now, within amber deposits in northern Myanmar, scientists have found four tiny frogs that they estimate became trapped within sticky tree resin some 99 million years ago. These are the oldest frog fossils known to have been preserved in amber, according to the team led by Lida Xing, an associate professor at the China University of Geosciences. These fossils, together with other fossils of mosses, bamboo-like plants, aquatic spiders, velvet worms and a dinosaur tail, recovered from these Myanmar deposits, provide the first definitive evidence that the amber-trapped frogs were living in wet, tropical forests alongside dinosaurs some 99 million years ago. The Cretaceous ecosystem they occupied resembles the moist, tropical rainforests of today, the researchers report in a study published in Scientific Reports. Amber fossils dating back 99 million years provide the earliest direct evidence of frogs living in wet, tropical forests. Image by Lida Xing/China University of Geosciences. One of the four frogs, which was trapped in sap alongside an unidentified beetle, has a nearly intact skeleton: its skull, forelimbs, part of its backbone, and a partial

Commercial values are a key driver of Zero Deforestation policies (commentary) "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

According to a recent report created for the Prince of Wales Sustainability Institute, there are now more than 470 companies with commitments to ensure their company is not linked to deforestation. These are commonly known as Zero Deforestation Policies (ZDPs). With increased small-scale deforestation in Amazonia, approximately 4,000 hectares recently cleared in Indonesian Papua for palm development, and increasing pressure on forests in Sub-Saharan Africa attributed to palm oil expansion, it is clear these policies are not (yet) having their intended impact. A recent investigation into the role of commercial, company, personal, and environmental values in ZDPs explores a less frequently considered contributing factor to why this is the case: the values of the corporate decision-makers who are responsible for implementing ZDPs. Why look at the role of values in ZDPs? Because there is a mismatch between rate of forest loss and pace of policy, regulation, and technological developments to protect forests, and this discrepancy suggests it is worthwhile to consider more fundamental drivers of change in order to end deforestation. Values, commonly defined as the metrics we use to choose and rationalize actions and to appraise people and events, might be just such a fundamental driver. Often-cited policy tools such as national forest preservation laws and reforestation programs, the UNs REDD+ program, and laws to minimize illegal logging are slow, according to a 2017 study, and non-binding with limited impact, as a 2014 study found. Even when the policy, legislation, or regulation mechanism to stop deforestation is sound, effective

Illegal mining creeps into southern Bahuaja-Sonene National Park "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

ALTO INAMBARI, Peru There are some places that we always remember better than others. That is what David Aranbar says when he thinks about the district of Alto Inambari, seven hours away from the city of Puno in Perus Sandia Province. Aranbar, the director of Bahuaja-Sonene National Park, grew up in that area of the rainforest and still remembers seeing catfish racing downstream in the Inambari River, alongside otters who would run beside the catfish trying to trap them. Many years have passed since the last time Aranbar has seen an otter in the area. The area around the Inambari River, which has long been the otters preferred route to travel, is now filled with heavy machinery and barrels of mercury. It is an area that has been transformed by illegal mining. As the otter population decreases, the number of illegal stands selling fuel continues to climb. The fuel is there to facilitate mining in the area. An inspection by the provincial attorney specializing in environmental matters in Puno in late 2017 identified 36 points of illegal mining in the Inambari River Basin. Of those, 18 were in Alto Inambari. A large number of those illegal mines are located in the buffer zone of Bahuaja-Sonene National Park, just a little over one mile from the protected area. It seems like just a matter of time before illegal mining makes its way into the park itself. The illegal mining that takes place in the southern part of Bahuaja-Sonene National Park

Due to her genetic legacy, Puan played a vital role in ensuring the survival of the heavily threatened species. Of the nine existing wild populations of Sumatran orangutans, only seven each with an estimated 250 or more individuals have prospects of long-term viability, according to WWF. Only three of those population groups have more than 1,000 orangutans each. Some 29 of Puans descendants are still alive, including daughters Puteri and Pulang; grandchildren Utama, Teliti, Sekara and Lestari; and great-grandson Sungai, all of whom are also at Perth Zoo. At 62, Puan exceeded the usual life expectancy for her species. In the wild, female orangutans would rarely live past the age of 50, assuming they succumb earlier to a number of threats such as poaching. Puan is the total exception to the rule, Holly Thompson, a primate superviser at Perth Zoo, said in a

$7K Resistance Is Capping Bitcoins Upside Price Potential "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Bitcoins (BTC) bulls are struggling to push prices higher, even though a still-favorable short-term set-up on the technical charts.
Bitcoin climbed to some six-day high of $6,580 on Monday on Bitfinex, adding credence to indications which the cryptocurrency might be in for a relief rally.
The bullish bias has strengthened further in the last two times too, courtesy of a bullish Bollinger band breakout along with a bullish crossover between the 5-day and 10-day moving average (MA). In addition, bitcoin refused to embrace the negative narrative on Wednesday following the $31 million hack of South Koreas Bithumb market, indicating that the sellers are likely running dry.
Despite all this, though, the cryptocurrency has struggled to find acceptance above $6,800 in the last 3 times, as seen in the graph below.
Daily graph

Bitcoin printed intraday highs above $6,800 in the last 3 trading days (as per UTC), but still closed nicely beneath the $6,800 mark.
The repeated failure to scale $6,800 in a convincing manner forces us to contemplate the possibility of the bears creating a comeback, even though the charts dont see that occurring while BTC is holding above $6,550.
At press time, BTC is changing hands at $6,730 on Bitfinex.
4-hour graph

The graph shows BTC has made an increasing wedge   a bearish continuation design. A break below $6,550 (climbing quad support and 50MA service ) would put the bears back in the drivers seat and permit a drop to $6,000.
A drop below $6,550 would also push the relative strength index (RSI) beneath the ascending trendline, further strengthening the bear case.

The immediate outlook remains bullish so long as bitcoin is holding above $6,550.
On the higher side, inflexible resistance is mentioned at $6,943 (100-candle MA on 4-hour graph ) and $7,000 (psychological hurdle).
A downside break of the rising wedge pattern (below $6,550) would open the doors to $6,000.
A daily close (as per UTC) below $6,000 would introduce the upcoming major emotional support of $5,000.

FDA Turns Its Back on Women with Menopause "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Help us get Congress to step in and tell the agency to knock it off. Action Alert!

What if we were to tell you that there was a treatment for the effects of menopause that:

Sounds like a good deal, right? That treatment is estriol, one of the three main forms of estrogen produced by the body. With their safety profile and health benefits, it isnt surprising that one third of women who use hormone therapy choose estriol and other safe, effective, and natural bioidentical hormones to manage the symptoms of menopause. Unfortunately, the FDA is poised to remove access to these hormones and to leave ailing women with no other option but more dangerous alternatives. ANH-USA is leading the charge to protect these crucial hormones, but we need your help to enlist members of Congress to get the FDA to back off.

Heres whats happened. In 2013 Congress passed a law to update the regulation of compounding pharmacies, which make customized medications for individual patients, including bioidentical hormones treatments. The FDA has made ample use of this opportunity to restrict or eliminate access to natural medicines, including bioidentical hormones.

The latest attack has been launched by nominating bioidentical hormones to the Difficult to Compound List. The FDA is in the process of reviewing the nominations; when finalized, items on this list cannot be compounded. In normal circumstancesand perhaps if the agency wasnt beholden to pharmaceutical interestsmere nomination wouldnt be such a cause for concern. But the track record thus far does not inspire optimism. In a related process where the FDA and its advisory committee are reviewing which substances can be compounded, the committee, following the FDAs guidance, has voted to b...

Not Everyone Who Wants to Reproduce Will Be Able "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Common chemicals are causing sperm deformity and decreased sperm counts. Action Alert!

A new study suggests that when a mother is exposed to endocrine-disrupting chemicals during pregnancy, her son and the sons future generations may suffer from decreased fertility. This is the latest among a mounting body of scientific evidence that links these common chemicalsfound in a wide variety of products including plastics, pesticides, PVC piping, cosmetics, medical devices, and childrens toysto the fertility crisis we are facing, and its time for regulators to do something about it.

Weve reported on the fertility crisis a number of times over the years. Scientists say that approximately 90% of sperm in a typical young man are misshapen, meaning they are unable to swim correctly. Additionally, sperm counts have decreased sharply over the last seventy-five years. As one researcher bluntly stated, Not everyone who wants to reproduce will be able to.

Theres a great deal of evidence that points to endocrine disruptors as a major cause of this problem. Quite simply, these chemicals disrupt the proper functioning of hormones. One study found an association between higher concentrations of phthalates (a chemical used in plastics) and increased damage to sperm DNA. Another study by Canadian scientists found that adding endocrine disruptors to Lake Ontario turned male fathead minnows into intersexual fish (fish with both male and female characteristics), which are unable to reproduce. Unfortunately, these are far from the only studies positing a link between chemicals and infertility.

Theres also evidence that GMOs....
