A 56-year-old woman in Zhongshan, China has tested positive for the H3N8 bird flu virus after being exposed to live poultry. The rulers still say that transmission risk is low to other humans.

The current strain of the bird flu that the mainstream media is using to panic the masses is H5N1.

Mutations in H5N1 Bird Flu Are Concerning

This is the third known infection since the virus was first detected in humans in China last year. The Guangdong Provincial Centre for Disease Control and Prevention said in a statement on Monday that the woman had underlying illnesses but did not give further details of her condition nor confirm how she became infected. The statement said there were no anomalies found among her close contacts. There have been no confirmed cases of the virus being transmitted between humans so far.

According to the experts studies and conclusion, the human infection [with H3N8] is a sporadic case and the risk of transmission of the virus is low at this stage, the statement said. The public should try to avoid contact with live birds and sick or dead birds.

This news comes nearly a year after a four-year-old boy in the central province of Henan became the first known human to be infected with H3N8.

The China CDC said it was an episodic avian-to-human interspecies transmission and that the virus does not yet have the ability to effectively infect humans. -SCMP

Christian Dior Exhibition in Tokyo Comes Alive With Incredible Architectural Backdrops

Clothing by the fashion house Christian Dior speaks for itself. So when creating a space for an extensive retrospective, the setting must be as exquisite as the garmentswithout overpowering the designs on view. Architect Shohei Shigematsu, a partner at Dutch studio OMA, has done that with the interior design for the Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo.

The incredible exhibition features clothing, purses, periodicals, and more, all among alluring sets. One of the standouts is a pyramidal staircase that features 35 pieces of Dior haute-couture. The mannequins are set on platforms within the staircase, which itself illuminates with animations.

Each exhibition space references elements that are shared between Japanese tradition and culture as well as Diors history and its contemporary clothing collections. The pyramidal staircase, for instance, is inspired by long, processional stairs leading to traditional Japanese shrines. But overall, the elements are wide-ranging and refer to themes in the fashion house's work, construction techniques, and more.

Shigematsu, it turns out, was just the right person to design the interior. The fashion exhibition is a domain that requires architecture to become a narrative medium. Wildlife Photographers Unite in New Book To Highlight Beauty of Endangered Animals

A decade ago, British photographer Graeme Green was on assignment in Africa when he stumbled upon an idea to promote the conservation of wildlife. Big 5 was a phrase once used by big-game hunters to describe the African wildlife that was the most difficult to track and kill. Green wanted to transform the meaning, and instead of shooting these animals with guns, they'd be shot with cameras in an effort to educate the public.

Over the course of many years, Green spoke with fellow wildlife photographers about his concept and, in 2020, the project was launched. The Big 5 would no longer be associated with the end of life, but with a celebration of the animals that are most at risk on our planet. A public vote was held to decide what The New Big 5 would be, with the elephant, polar bear, lion, gorilla, and tiger coming out on top.

The original project saw leading photographers like Ami Vitale, Cristina Mittermeier, Thomas Vijayan, and many more lending their images to highlight the threats that endangered species are currently facing. Now, Green is releasing a book, The New Big 5, in order to continue his mission of helping the animals that need it the most.

Following the death of the U.S. contractor and injuries to six other Americans that were caused by Irans Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps crashing a UAV into a building, President Biden ordered a series of retaliatory precision airstrikes in Syria on Thursday. The county council voted by 33 to 26 to approve a new public transport busway, which will use optically guided electric or hybrid buses on its route, to provide links between Cambridge and Cambourne, an expanding new town eight miles outside the city.

Huge public opposition to the felling of trees in Coton Orchard has led to thousands of people signing a petition calling for them to be saved. Coton Orchard contains about 1,000 trees and grows 26 varieties of apples, as well as pears and plums.

The vote came a week after Plymouth city council felled more than 100 mature trees in a scheme to regenerate and transform the city with a new walkway from the sea to the city centre.

Anna Gazeley, whose family owns Coton Orchard and who is part of the Coton Busway Action Group against the threatened destruction of part of the orchard, addressed councillors in Cambridgeshire on Tuesday. She said: Traditional orchards are hotspots of biodiversity in the countryside, supporting a wide range of wildlife as well as an array of nationally rare and nationally scarce species.

The nation woke up to the awful news today that the great Paul OGrady has died, aged 67.

The presenter and comedian, who rose to fame in the 90s with his drag queen persona Lily Savage, died unexpectedly but peacefully on Tuesday evening.

Paul will be remembered for many, many things and everyone will have a particular favourite memory, from the Big Breakfast to The Paul OGrady Show, via Blankety Blank and everything in between.

But one moment in particular was going viral today, his blistering rant against Tory austerity which went out on live TV back in 2010 and its as sadly relevant today perhaps even more so than it was then.

She advocates for equity and inclusion at all levels of mental health care, from grassroots organizations to state-level policy institutions. Dr. Suyemoto has spoken and written about being a suicide attempt survivor and her struggles with chronic depression and PTSD.

Dr. Suyemoto earned her PhD in Education from the University of Pennsylvania, where she researched multicultural and anti-racist education. She currently serves as the Training Director for the National Asian American Pacific Islander Mental Health Association and leads the National Asian American Pacific Islander Empowerment Network.

She is also a leader in suicide prevention at the local and national levels, serving as the Equity Coordinator for the Massachusetts Coalition for Suicide Prevention and co-chair of the Greater Boston Regional Suicide Prevention Coalition. Dr. Suyemoto co-wrote an educational resource called Widening the Lens: Exploring the Role of Social Justice in Suicide Prevention A Racial Equity Toolkit.

In this interview, Dr. Suyemoto discusses how her identities as a Japanese American woman and lifelong educator have influenced her work promoting racial equity in mental health and suicide prevention. She shares her efforts to build a national network of Asian Americans with lived experiences of mental health challenges. In June 2021, Espen Flo Bdal began to believe that a paper hed co-authored had been stolen. 

The news came via a ResearchGate alert that the Norwegian researchers work had been cited, according to the publication Universitets (article in Norwegian). When Bdal checked the alert, he saw that part of his doctoral thesis had been published, essentially word for word. 

But instead of his name and those of his collaborators at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the article listed researchers at the Huzhou Power Supply Company and North China Electric Power University as its authors.

The allegedly pirated article, A Stochastic Rolling Horizon-Based Approach for Power Generation Expansion Planning, appeared in a special issue of Mathematical Problems in Engineering, a Hindawi title that was one of 19 recently delisted from Clarivates Web of Science for failing to meet quality criteria. 

Hindawis special issues have had problems with paper mills, according to independent researcher Dorothy Bishop. Wiley, which acquired Hindawi in 2021, recently disclosed that it paused publishing the special issues for three months, losing $9 million in revenue. Last year, the publisher retracted more than 500 papers after discovering manipulations in the peer review process.

National Academies Committee Meets to Review COVID-19 Vaccine Adverse Events

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine (NASEM) announced late yesterday that a public comment session will be held next week relating to the committee charge of reviewing relevant literature regarding adverse events associated with COVID-19 vaccines and shoulder injury related to vaccine administration (SIRVA). The meeting will be live-streamed, and there is an opportunity for public comment.

The review of epidemiological, clinical, and biological evidence has been requested by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and appears to be in preparation for the addition of vaccine injuries to the federal vaccine injury table. According to the NASEM presentation given to the Advisory Commission for Childhood Vaccines (ACCV) in December 2022, the report and its findings are expected in March 2024.¹

Injuries Under Review

DHHS has asked the NASEM committee to review the medical literature for the following vaccine adverse events to determine if the evidence indicates that COVID-19 vaccines are causally associated:

• Guillain-Barr Syndrome (GBS)
• chronic inflammatory demyelinating
• polyneuropathy (CIDP)
• transverse myelitis (TM)
• Bells palsy
• hearing loss
• chronic headaches
• infertility
• sudden death
• myocarditis/pericarditis
• thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome (TTS)
• immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP)
• thromboembolic events (e.g., cerebrovascular accident (CVA), myocardial infarction (MI), pulmonary embolism, deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
• capillary leak syndrome

The review of literature for SIRVA will be the second review by the NASEM, with the first review published in their last report in 2012.²

The warrant for President Vladimir Putin

On March 17, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Russias President Vladimir Putin.  The ICC claims that Putin has violated human rights by illegally transferring children from occupied parts of Ukraine to Russia.  

So, what does this mean, exactly?  If the ICC issues an arrest warrant, who goes and grabs Putin and puts him in jail?

The arrest warrant is symbolic.  The ICC doesnt have its own police force, which means that they rely on the law enforcement agencies of its 123 member nations to carry out the arrests they want.  Russia has never been part of the ICC; neither has the United States or China.  Ireland, Croatia, Austria, and Germany have said that they will carry out the arrest if Putin comes to their countries.

His travel within Europe might be a little more restricted, but that will probably be the only way in which Putin is affected.   

And even some of the ICC signatories have proven unwilling to carry out the arrest.  South Africa, for example, still plans to host Putin for the 2023 BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) Summit.  South Africa has refused to condemn the war in Ukraine, and government leaders say that theyre looking at all options right now. Hungary has said that they will not arrest Putin. The UK and France, like South Africa, arent making any commitments.

This time, it was just an Amazon package. But next time? Jason Voorhees, Freddy Krueger, and Michael Myers might show up to have a party with my dismembered body. But that doesnt mean any of you can fuck with me.

Ill have you know that if Im in the kitchen, sometimes I grab the really big knife and hold it menacingly. I think about whether I could actually plunge it into an attackers chest. I always realize that, no, I could not. I dont think I could kill even in an act of justified self-defense. But Ill still fuck you up with these here hands.

I sleep with a baseball bat at the edge of my bed and every night before I go to sleep, I pray I dont have to use it. Hell, even batting cages give me the willies. My idiot neighbors are ignoring a treasure trove, said a nerve-wracked Cheek, while wringing his hands and periodically glancing through the blinds. Ill be honest, Ive even gone out a few times to add stuff I know is worth thousands. But STILL people amble on by it, shuffle through the records, and keep on strolling. Its got me questioning my whole musical taste. Oh my god, do Isuck?

That guy is such a dweeb. Ive seen him go out and check to see if any of his stupid records have been taken, like its a badge of honor. Ive walked by around six times acting like Im considering taking one, just to toss it off to the side, and relish the muffled screams coming from his bay window, snickered across-the-street neighbor Melanie Akins. Even brought my dogs out to make him scared they might mark their territory on the box. The whole neighborhoods joining in, and its actually been a wonderful bonding moment for the community.

There are few groups working currently as divisive as 100 gecs; hailed as either progressive geniuses or derided as irony-poisoned shitposters, their genre-defying sophomore release 10,000 gecs will only further that critical gap. 

In order to best review this album, I felt I needed to really get into the gec headspace. Do a little method acting, if you will. Learn what its really like to be Laura Les and Dylan Brady. 

I started off with enacting the root of the 100 gecs brand, their namesake, a piece of band lore that is just insane enough to maybe work: buying literally 100 geckos from a pet store. These little guys cost me like, $800, and then I had to go get a bunch of tanks and fake rocks and shit to make them suitable homes. And a lot of live mealworms, which is weird and upsetting as a vegan. 

Once I got my new army of reptiles set up, which, for the record, took several weeks, I then sought out to purchase a replica of the iconic wizard costumes worn by Les and Brady during performances. The robe and hat also cost me $800, so now this review has put me $1600 in the hole and Im really desperately trying to justify this as research on my reimbursement request. 

Now for the final part of my foray into inhabiting the gecsthe ritual. I clothed myself in their garb, surrounded by my geckos, and shotgunned three energy drinks for good measure before lighting the sacrificial incense. Crazily enough, hidden in the liner notes of this album is an incantation to summon the demons of hyperpop, and you can bet your ass Im ready to do this.

My wife and I (both 40) have a kid each from previous relationships, mine is Connor (18M) and hers is Sasha (16F), my son has a girlfriend, Hannah(17F) and both her and Sasha are lactose intolerant.

Sasha spends half the month with us, so we always have normal and lactose-free milk, Ill admit, Sashas milk is quite expensive because she only likes certain kind that she can also drinks alone and not with just coffees or smoothies.

Now the issue is, Hannah spends almost 3 to 4 days here and my wife and I dont mind at all, but Sasha has complaint several times that Hannah drinks her milk as fuel during those days and barely leaves anything for her (we go to the supermarket every 2 weeks, Sasha can go to any nearby store and get more, tho, not the one she likes) and has asked us to either buy gallon for her only and one for Hannah or tell her to go buy her own milk.

My wife decided to just buy Sasha a small fridge to keep in her room so she can store her milk and other things there which I find very disrespectful, I mean its just milk, we can always buy more.

This has caused Hannah to ask if she can borrow a bit of milk every time she wants to drink a coffee with us, and Sasha says yes, most times, but when she decides Hannah has had enough milk, she says shes almost running out (which is a lie).
