Heres what makes Apache Kafka so fast "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

BigData By Camelia.boban (Own work) [CC BY-SA 3.0 (], via Wikimedia Commons

What is Apache Kafka?

Apache Kafka is a distributed streaming platform, which allows you to:

  • Publish and subscribe to streams of records, similar to a message queue or enterprise messaging system.
  • Store streams of records in a fault-tolerant durable way.
  • Process streams of records as they occur.

If you havent used Kafka before, you can head here to quick start and come back to this article once you have become familiar with the use case.

Kafka supports a high-throughput, highly distributed, fault-tolerant platform with low-latency delivery of messages. Here, we are going to focus on the low-latency delivery aspect.

Low latency in I/O = Filesystem?

Most traditional data systems use random-access memory (RAM) as their data store, as RAM provides extremely low latencies.

Although this approach makes them fast, the cost of RAM is much more than disk. Such systems are usually costlier to run when you have 100s of GBPS data flowing through the system.

Kafka relies on the filesystem for the storage and caching. The problem is disks are slower than RAM. This is because the seek-time through a disk is large compared to the time required for actually reading the data.

But if you can avoid seeking, then you can achieve latencies as low as RAM in some cases. This is done by Kafka through Sequential I/O.

One advantage of Sequential I/O is you get a cache without writing any logic in your application for it. Modern operating systems allocate most of their free memory to disk-caching. So, if you are reading in an ordered fashion, the OS can always read-ahead and store data in a cache on each disk read.

This is much better than maintaining a cache in a JVM application. This is because JVM objects are heavy and can lead to high garbage collection, which becomes worse as data size increases.

Dont use trees

Most modern databases use one form of tree data structure or another for persistent data storage. For example, MongoDB uses BTree, while Cassandra uses LSM tree.......

Outrageous chemical-dosing experiment to force friendship toward migrants: not science fiction by Jon Rappoport "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

I really hope you understand this.

It is not a fantasy. It isnt science fiction. It isnt satire.

It is Brave New World, but not the Huxley novel. Its happening now.

Its a published study that appears on the website of the prestigious Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America.

The title of the study is, Oxytocin-enforced norm compliance reduces xenophobic outgroup rejection. (Reference: Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A. 2017 Aug 29;114(35):9314-9319.)

Xenophobia is defined as: fear or hatred of foreigners, people from different cultures, or strangers. (

Oxytocin, the chemical used in this study, is described by Medical News Today: Widely referred to as the love hormone, oxytocin has also been dubbed the hug hormone, cuddle chemical, moral molecule, and the bliss hormone due to its effects on behavior, including its role in love and in female reproductive biological functions in reproduction.

Oxytocin is a hormone that is made in the brain, in the hypothalamus. It is transported to, and secreted by, the pituitary gland, which is located at the base of the brain.

The published study details a successful attempt at chemical mind control. The goal is making people more happy and friendly about mass migration, by changing their hormonal response toward migrants.

Nothing in the study cites inherent migration problems, such as increased violent crime, back-breaking financial pressure on government budgets, and the eroding of local cultures. Its all about shifting feeling and reaction toward waves of immigrants.

Here are extensive quotes from the new study:

Here we report the results of a double-blind, placebo-controlled experiment showing that enhanced activity of the oxytocin system paired with charitable social cues [programming] can help counter the effects of xenophobia by fostering altruism toward refugees. These findings suggest that the combination of oxytocin and peer-derived altruistic norms [social cues] reduces outgroup rejection [toward migrants] even in the most selfish and xenophobic....

Unboxing the basics of the CSS Box Model "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Understanding the CSS Box Model is crucial in being able to master how elements are laid out on a page. In the most basic of terms, the Box Model is as follows: margin, border, padding and content. But what does that all mean? How do these words work together?

In this weeks post well jump right into it and have you feeling like a Box Model Master. Styling elements and giving them proper spacing left and right (and top and bottomget it? Because you are arranging your elements on the page sorry for the bad jokes).

Take a peek at this visual break down provided by the Chrome Console:

You can see this visual by right-clicking your page in Chrome (or your browser of choice), clicking Inspect to open the developer console, selecting the Styles tab and then scrolling down to the very bottom.

You can see that each part of the Box Model is labeled for you except contentthats the blue box in the very middle. Lets break down how each part works and the unique differences between them.

You can think of the margin as a buffer for your element. Want a little space around your element? That is what margin is there for. Lets imagine you have a cold. You should (hopefully) be staying away from people so you dont spread it around. You need some margin around you. Take a look at this image to further illustrate:

Notice how your friends are all spread out from you and youre surrounded by orange? That is margin in action. You remain the same size but there is a no-entry zone for all things around you. Same thing goes for elements on your page. Margin will give you space around your element and keep things separated. To put it simply, margin will put invisible spacing around your element without directly affecting its size. In this example weve made it orange to give you a visual cue of where it stands in relation to the content (a sick you in this case).

Border is the second property from outside edge of your element. Border, as you may have guessed, is used to define a visual edge to your element. Border will increase the presentational size of your element or the part that is visually seen on the screen. There can still be margin involved, but it will be on the outside edge of the border. Lets take another look at you being sick, but this time with a little border involved:

It looks almost identical to the margin demo before, except there is no...

Shocker: comparing deaths from medical treatment, vitamins, all US wars ~ Jon Rappoport "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

March 13, 2018

Why do I keep writing on this subject?

Hmm, lets seebecause extraordinary numbers of people are dying, and are severely maimed. Thats a pretty good reason.

Because medical and government and press authorities are lying through their teeth and covering up the numbers.

Because some of the people who are dying could be people you know and love, in your family, in your circle of friends.

Because the facts are clearno speculation or opinion required.

Because this is not a one-time occurrence. It is ongoing.

Because Im going out on a limb, with outrageous self-confidence, and assuming that continuing to live is better than experiencing an early and unnecessary death.

Because you might send this article to people who will learn about this shocking subject for the first time.

Because, no matter which country you live in, medical destruction parallels what has been happening in the US.

People want to believe medical science gives us, at any given moment, the best of all possible worlds.

And of course, the best of all possible worlds must have its enemies: the quacks who sell unproven snake oil.

So lets look at some facts.

As Ive been documenting for years, the medical cartel has been engaged in massive criminal fraud, presenting their drugs as safe and effective across the boardwhen, in fact, these drugs have been killing and maiming huge numbers of people, lik...

Asian Altcoin Trading Roundup: Top Cryptocurrency is Qtum "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

FOMO Moments

Markets are in the green for a second day as cryptocurrencies struggle to claw back heavy losses over the past week. Bitcoin is leading the charge and has climbed to $8,600, up 5.3% on the day. Altcoins are also predominantly green and in recovery mode, some are gaining faster than others and one way out in front this morning is Qtum.

According to Coinmarketcap Qtum is trading 56% higher during the Asian session this morning. The token was trading at $13.60 this time yesterday and has jumped to $21.15 within 24 hours. The weekly picture is also positive for this altcoin as it has shown a 15.6% gain on prices last Tuesday. Over the month however Qtum is down 34% from $32 on February 20. Against BTC the coin is up 50% at 246388 satoshis from 166331 sats this time yesterday. At its peak in early January Qtum traded at 582182 satoshis, or almost $100.

Space based Qtum was added to Shapeshift a week ago which has kept momentum going while most others have fallen. Investment app Abra has also recently listed Qtum among their top twenty tradable cryptocurrencies. Additionally a recent conference in San Francisco brought positive news for Qtum where decentralized app developments were discussed for the platform.

Qtum is traded heavily in South Korea with Bithumb and Upbit taking almost half of the trade volume in KRW. Just over $600 million has been traded in the past 24 hours and Qtums market cap currently stands at $1.5 billion ranking the altcoin at 18th.

Other altcoins enjoying over 20% growth this morning include Cardano, Eos, and Ethereum Classic. Total crypto market capitalization has risen 6.7% in the past 24 hours to $336 billion with many hoping that this could be the start of the recovery.

Bitcoin Price Technical Analysis for 03/20/2018 Next Hurdles to Clear "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Bitcoin Price Key Highlights

  • Bitcoin price is showing early bullish signals as it moved past a short-term descending trend line.
  • The uptrend could gain traction as bitcoin clears the next upside hurdles from here.
  • The areas of interest at $10,000 and $12,000 could contain some take-profit orders so bounces could be seen right there.

Bitcoin price is starting to get back on its feet but would need more bullish energy to bust through the next upside barriers.

Technical Indicators Signals

The 100 SMA is still below the longer-term 200 SMA to signal that the path of least resistance is to the downside. This means that the selloff still has a pretty good chance of resuming, especially if bitcoin price falls back to the latest lows close to $7,000.

In addition, these moving averages line up with the nearby support turned resistance area around $9,000-10,000. If bulls arent strong enough to charge past this level, sellers could return and push bitcoin price back to the lows earlier this month.

Stochastic is also indicating overbought conditions, which means that buyers are tired. RSI has some room to climb so a test of the next roadblocks could take place, but this oscillator is also approaching overbought levels.

If buying momentum keeps up, bitcoin price could make its way up to the next area of interest at $12,000. A move past this area could confirm that the longer-term uptrend is still intact as it would place bitcoin back above the ascending trend line on the daily time frame.

Market Factors

Risk appetite appears to have picked up in the financial markets after the Brexit deal was announced. This would mean less uncertainty for businesses, at least during the transition period that would last for 21 months.

The FOMC decision is coming up and this could mean volatility for the dollar, including the BTC/USD pair. A rate hike is widely expected and this might weigh on sentiment, although the scenario has been priced in for quite some time and profit-taking is more likely.

What Is The Ego And How Can We Transcend It? "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

by Michelle Walling, CHLC; Body Mind Soul Spirit

The ego is a third dimensional tool our human body uses for and identity and protection. As we move toward the fifth dimension, some say we need to get rid of it, some say we need to tame it, and some say we should love it. What actually is our ego and what should we do with it?

Why do we have an ego?

The egos job is to protect us and to keep us from knowing who we are in the veiled experience of third dimensional incarnation. It has been termed the lower self compared to aspects of our oversoul that exist in higher vibrational dimensions. As multidimensional selves, when we came into this body we knew that we would forget who we were as part of the experience of lower dimensional existence.

The ego is not who you really are. It is your self image and is not even the image that others may see. It is a mask of approval, it wants to be in control, and it is driven by fear. It is partially responsible for not allowing you to love yourself 100% because it hides who you are.

Identifying why we have this lower self and the aspects of it is essential in the awakening process of ascension. Removing this veil sheds more light upon areas of ourselves that need healing. In order to get to the core of the self, we have to begin peeling the layers of the mask to reveal what lies beneath.

Hiding in Plain Sight: Evidence of Impersonal Intelligence as an Aspect of Consciousness "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

by Tom Bunzel; Collective Evolution

Too often we remain mired in our own specialized silos. Scientists worship the scientific method and without clear proof they reject any speculative ideas out of hand. Worse, in todays climate, academic and research scientists are often in the service of corporate objectives.

So we miss connections. Physicists think in terms of material interactions or quantum theories; biologists consider the interplay of chemicals and biological agents and microbes and mathematicians remain in their own cerebral world.

But if we look out at nature, we notice that there is no distinction between these and other branches of science physics and math express in our bodies and those of other creatures all the way up to the stars and astrophysics.

Laws may be different at various scales; we have not found much evidence of quantum mechanics at our scale of reality but experiments have proven the veracity of the theory.

But just as language is all that makes you distinguish between branches of science and other fields, so too if we consider the words Mind, Energy and Consciousness how do we truly understand them?

Are they really separate and distinct entities?

'Crooked' Dog Finds The Sweetest Friend To Help Him Feel Better "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Saved from a high-kill shelter in Texas three months ago, rescuers werent even sure that Buttons could walk when they first saw him.

The shelter just wheeled him out to us in a wheelbarrow, Jessica Russell, president of A Chance to Bloom Rescue, told The Dodo. We had no idea what kind of shape he was in.

Credit: A Chance to Bloom

After a trip to the hospital, however, vets realized that 3-year-old Buttons' head was permanently tilted to one side. This could have been from two different scenarios: he just had a genetic neck deformity, or was locked in a crate that was too small for him to lift his head all the way so he became crooked as he grew.

We have no way of knowing for sure, but he was put on medicine to make sure his spinal fluids were draining correctly, Russell said. Hes perfectly healthy now, but his head will have a slight tilt all the time.

After sorting his health out, it wasnt long before rescuers realized how desperate for attention Buttons was.

They decided to introduce him to another special dog, 2-year-old Grace, who was found as a stray last November after she had been hit by a car. Her back leg was amputated after the accident, but even after healing, she still hadnt found a home.

She was lonely, too.

They both had this look of defeat when we first pulled them from the shelter, Russell said. But when they got together, everything completely changed. It was instantaneous.

The shelter staff put them into crates next to one another at first but a few minutes later, it was clear they wanted to be with one another. The...

Yellowstone Supervolcano Eruption Fears: Largest Geyser Begins To ERUPT "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

by Mac Slavo;

The largest geyser known as the Steamboat Geyser located above the Yellowstone Supervolcano has begun to erupt underground. But experts at Yellowstone National Park claim to have seen the Steamboat Geyser erupt on Thursday night.

The geyser can shoot water more than 300 feet during significant eruptions and the park service made the announcement about the worlds tallest active geyser on Friday, as geologists compared the accounts to thermal sensors in the area. It was determined by scientists that it could be a series of minor eruptions, as opposed to one big eruption.

A series of earthquakes have been rumbling underground over the past few months, with as many as 200 recorded in a matter of days. The volcano is under strain according to some experts but researchers still continue to say not to worry, because the Steamboat Geysers eruptions had little connection to a volcano like Yellowstone. Using Global Positioning System, borehole tiltmeters, and borehole strainmeters to measure minute changes in deformation at Yellowstone, David Mencin and Glen Mattioli said: the strain signal is larger than would be expected if the crust under Yellowstone were completely solid.

Id rather be raped than have some redneck militia type try to rescue me.

If people carry guns, there will be murders over parking spaces and neighborhood basketball games.

  1. How often have you heard these statements from misguided advocates of victim disarmament, or even woefully uninformed relatives and neighbors?
  2. Why do people cling so tightly to these beliefs, in the face of incontrovertible evidence that they are wrong?
  3. Why do they get so furiously angry when gun owners point out that their arguments are factually and logically incorrect? How can you communicate with these people who seem to be out of touch with reality and rational thought?

Cerrado: Agribusiness may be killing Brazils birthplace of waters "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

Small streams like this one are going dry even in the wet season. Correntinas people have long relied on these streams to irrigate and grow their food. Photo by Alicia Prager This is the third of six stories in a series by journalists Alicia Prager and Flvia Milhorance who travelled to the Cerrado in February for Mongabay to assess the impacts of agribusiness on the regions environment and people. It used to be right there, says Marcos Rogrio Beltro pointing to a rocky red sand depression under a small wooden bridge. Its the wet season in Correntina, a town in western Bahia state, and that depression should be filled with running water. But its bone dry. Another dozen or so nearby streams are either heavily silted, sluggish, or gone to dust in the 40 degree Celsius (104 degree Fahrenheit) heat of late February in Brazil. Beltro, a former small-scale farmer and now an environmentalist, was born in Correntina, so he has many years of seasonal memories to measure by. He guides us along a rural valley where small tributaries should be amply supplying the Arrojado River. It is flowing with 40,000 liters [10,570 gallons] per second during the wet season, he says, standing on the riverbank. This [weak flow] should be the amount in the dry season. Sixty percent of the 31,000 people living in Correntina rely on traditional water supplies, such as that coming from artesian wells, to grow their food on small farms and in garden plots. But

Homebirth Midwife Handles A Life Threatening Emergency Like A Boss "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Homebirth Midwife Handles Life Threatening Emergency Like A Boss

For some reason, a persistent myth suggests homebirth midwives are under-educated. It implies they are somehow not quite as qualified as other birth attendants. The facts, however, are quite different: midwives are amazingly skilled and highly educated healthcare professionals. They're trained to work under pressure and to act quickly on their feet. Recently, a homebirth midwife from New Zealand showed us just how skilled midwives really are. Sarah Glass saved her boyfriends life during an unexpected life-threatening emergency.

Homebirth Midwife Handles Life Threatening Emergency Like A Boss

Her boyfriend, Isak Bester, started to choke on a piece of steak during a backyard barbecue. Glass quickly began to administer CPR and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation when it was clear the steak wasnt budging. However, after a few minutes, his colour began to change and Glass knew he wasnt getting adequate oxygen. What she did next unquestionably saved his life.

Midwife Performs Tracheotomy With Stanley Blade Knife

After about eight minutes we were no longer getting air into him. The piece of steak had moved, so he was now turning a very nasty shade of purple and he was dying in front of us, Glass said. Thinking quickly, she asked if anyone had a sharp object, saying, I cant get air in him Im going to have to cut him. Someone handed her a Stanley blade knife and she proceeded to perform a tracheotomy. She also used the syringe and oxygen from her home birth supply kit. Before long, she saw an improvement in Bester's colour. Her quick action had clearly saved his life. The paramedics arrived after 20 minutes, and about 30 minutes after he began choking, Bester was airlifted to the hospital. He spent seven days in the hospital and, upon release, was on the way to a full recovery, thanks to Glass.

Research Shows Midwives And Nurses Provide Exceptional Care

Performing tracheotomies isnt in a midwifes typical job description. However, homebirth midwives are well trained medical professionals. Birth typically unfolds well and isnt alway...

Rebranding Fascism and Refinancing Mortgages: Andrew Murphy Harkins, Portlands Nazi Banker Pacific Northwest Antifascist Workers Collective: This new generation of fascists devote considerable financial resources to promote rallies as prime recruiting grounds to attempt to increase their ranks by attempting to recruit moderate conservatives and run-of-the-mill Republican Party patriots who at least superficially share some of the same beliefs while at the same time often using dog-whistle phrases and imagery to signal their presence to other fascists.
One reason that this model continues to flourish is that conservatives continue to ignore or play down the presence of active neo-Nazis, fascists, and white supremacists in their midst; often citing free speech when it is pointed out, and thus tacitly enabling the hijacking of Conservative rallies for hate groups to recruit and organize within.

Coverup in Thai Army Killing of Teenage Activist | Human Rights Watch: The investigation into Chaiyaphums death has been hampered by shoddy police work. In April 2017, the army gave police a computer hard drive containing footage from security cameras at the checkpoint where soldiers arrested and shot Chaiyaphum. But Chaiyaphums family found during the inquest at Chiang Mai Provincial Court that the March 17 footage was missing. No one explained how the footage which the army had claimed proved the shooting was justified went missing. Police, prosecutors, and judges responsible for this case did not demand that the army hand over this critical evidence even after they knew it was missing.

Lt. Gen. Wichak Siribansop, the army commander for Thailands northern provinces, told the media on March 23, 2017, that he saw the footage and concluded that the soldiers were acting reasonably because Chaiyaphum escaped and was about to throw a hand grenade at them.

Tired Lion have steadily climbed the ranks as one of Australias most talked-about bands.

They are, tbqh, just an excellent rock and roll band, and were lucky to have em turning out huge choruses like it aint no thang.  triple j

Perth rockers Tired Lion are set to hit some of the biggest stages of their career this June with the announcement today of the national Where Were You? headline tour.

The tour, which takes its name from their latest single Where Were You? is supported by triple j and will see the band play clubs in MelbourneAdelaidePerthSydney and Brisbane, beginning with Max Watts in Melbourne on June 1.

After having a massive breakout year in 2017, that included releasing their critically-acclaimed, triple j Feature album, Dumb Days, Tired Lion has already had a huge start to 2018, playing sold out shows across regional Australia and performing at festivals like Party In The Paddock and the Pool House Party.

Tired Lions Sophie Hopes says she and her bandmates cant wait to hit the road again, where they feel most at home. Were always looking for a good excuse to pack our suitcase and head off to play a bunch of shows. Weve managed to already tick off a tour of regional Australia this year and psyched to take it to the capital cities!

The Feds Dilemma: No Good Choices "IndyWatch Feed Allaunews"

Despite the absence of any empirical support, Fed governors and staff economics persist in their reliance on the Phillips curve, which predicts that low unemployment leads to rising inflation. US unemployment at around 4% is in fact at 17-year lows.

The Fed insists that the time to tighten monetary conditions is now, before the inflation emerges.

Yet as Ive explained many times, the Phillips curve bears no correspondence to reality. The 1960s were characterised by low unemployment and rising inflation. The late 1970s were characterised by high unemployment and high inflation. The 2010s have been characterised by low unemployment and low inflation.

There is no correlation between inflation and unemployment, just as there is no correlation between inflation and money supply.

Inflation is always and everywhere a psychological phenomenon. When citizens lose confidence in a form of money, velocity does the rest, as no one wants to hold onto a currency thats rapidly depreciating in value.

The other ostensible reason for Fed tightening is official confidence that the US economy is on a solid growth path. As with the Phillips curve, there is no evidence for this belief.

The US savings rate plunged to 2.1% by late 2017, a fraction of the 6.3% rate that prevailed from 19702000. The combined impact of the 2017 Trump tax cuts, bipartisan congressional repeal of discretionary spending caps, and rising student loan defaults will push US budget deficits well past US$1 trillion per year indefinitely.

This added national dissaving will push the US savings rate to zero.

This means the US must either reduce investment or borrow savings from abroad. Both courses hurt growth. Other headwinds to growth include Trumps trade war, impediments to immigration, and higher real rates as the US Treasury tries to attract buyers for the US$10 trillion of new debt it must sell in the decade to come.

The race to raise rates

These specific headwinds are of recent vintage and come on top of the pre-existing secular stagnation due to demographics, deleveraging, and declining productivity.

The Fed understands these impediments to growth although they cannot publicly pivot away from their rosy scenario. Still, this begs the question, why is the Fed tightening if the economy is so weak?

The answer, as Ive said repeatedly but cant say enough, is that the Fed is preparing for the next crisis. The evidence is clear that it takes 34% in rate cuts to pull the US out of a recession. The Fed cannot cut rates even 3% when the Fed funds rate is less than 2%.

So, the Fed is in a desperate race to raise rates before a recession arrives so the...

These Creepy 'Ghost Nets' Are Killing Thousands Of Animals Every Year "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

In an upsetting video, a monk seal struggles to free herself after getting her neck caught in a piece of old fishing net. She kicks her flippers, trying to disentangle herself but the harder she tries to get away, the tighter the net becomes.

The person filming the monk seal eventually jumped into the water to save her he cut away the net and set her free. But other animals are not so lucky.

More than 650,000 marine animals, including dolphins, whales, seals and turtles, are killed or injured in fishing nets each year.

In many cases, animals get caught and die in nets that are being actively used by fishermen. For instance, thousands of dolphins are accidentally captured as bycatch in trawling nets off the coast of France every year most, if not all, of these dolphins die, and the fishermen simply toss their bodies overboard.

Credit: Kanna Jones/Marine Photobank

Yet lost, discarded and abandoned fishing nets referred to as ghost nets cause just as much damage, killing hundreds upon thousands of marine animals, according to a new report released by World Animal Protection (WAP).

Approximately 640,000 tons of fishing gear are left in our oceans every year, according to WAP. In some cases, illegal fishermen may deliberately dump their nets into the ocean to avoid getting caught. But most fishing vessels operating legally simply lose their gear due to poor weather, or because their nets collide with boat propellers, rocks or other fishing vessels.

Why Only China Can Save the Aussie Dollar "IndyWatch Feed Allaunews"

One of the biggest changes to the Australian market is set to take place. And chances are you probably dont know much about it.

On Wednesday the US Federal Reserve Bank begins its two-day monetary policy meeting.

Financial markets are betting theres a 113% chance the Fed will increase the funds rate the cash rate by 25 basis points.

A 113% chance the Fed will jack up interest rates means the increase is about as sure as a sure thing gets. The US market is expecting it, as is the global market.

Of course, this rate increase from the Fed was confirmed by the bond market a month ago.

In February this year, the price of a 10-year US Treasury bond rose 0.18% above a 10-year Aussie bond. In other words, the 10-year US Treasury bond was offering a yield of 2.90% compared to the 10-year Aussie bond of 2.72%.

That is, you would earn more interest putting your money into US bonds than Aussie-dollar bonds.

This price spike in bonds was yet another signal confirming this weeks imminent rate hike from the Fed. The announcement is expected on Friday morning Australia-time.

Given the market sees the rate increase as a given, there should be very little reaction from the US market. So, when the Aussie market opens a few hours later, it should be a relatively calm session.

However, this move from the Fed now puts Australia in an awkward position.

Its something that occurs infrequently in our market. For many investors and analysts, it may only happen once or twice in their lifetimes.

Come Friday morning, Australia will officially lose its interest rate advantage over the US.

With the Fed expected to bump up the rate by 0.25%, the US will be offering a higher interest rate than Australia. For the first time since 2001, the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) will have a cash rate of 1.5% compared to the Feds 1.75%.

The interest rate advantage simply means that if another central bank is offering a higher base rate than the RBA, they are more likely to attract overseas capital. In other words, money kept in a country with a higher interest rate is the better investment decision.

Last time this occurred was 20 years ago.

In December 1998, both the Fed and RBA dropped the cash rate to 4.75%. The Fed went first in November that year, with the RBA following a few weeks later.

Over the following two years, the RBAs monetary policy decisions trailed the Fed by a couple of months. If the Fed raised or lowered rates, the RBA followed suit within a couple of months.

You can see this play out in the chart below.

Local conservation groups call for tailings dam in Tambo River catchment to be rejected "IndyWatch Feed Alllocal"

Gippsland Environment Group (GEG) recently organised a site visit to the Benambra mine tailings dam in the headwaters of the Tambo River to discuss mining company CopperChems proposal to re-open and massively expand the dam. The visit raised considerable alarm among all who attended. The Stockman mine has long been a controversial project and plans to re-open the operation have caused serious concerns in the community.

The following report comes from GEG:

Members of local Landcare Groups, Victorian National Parks Association, Gippsland Environment Group, Environment East Gippsland and other interested locals travelled to the Stockman Project east of Benambra to inspect the tailings dam. Staff from Earth Resources (Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Transport and Resources) and Copperchem   the mining company that has applied for a licence to expand the tailings dam, were also present to answer questions.

The original Benambra copper and zinc mine was operated by Denehurst Pty Ltd from 1992 until 1996. In 1998 the company went into receivership and abandoned the site forfeiting their mine rehabilitation bond of $375,000. Denehurst left behind an unstable tailings dam containing 700,000 tonnes of toxic tailings leaking acid and heavy metals into Straight Creek which runs into the Tambo River. The tailings dam had been constructed right across the waterway over a series of groundwater springs and had been built without a spillway. Between 1999 and 2005 the EPA authorised DPI to make emergency releases of 160 megalitres of contaminated water to reduce the risk of the dam wall overtopping and undermining the dam foundations.

In 2006 DPI rehabilitated the mine site and tailings dam at a cost of $7 million to the taxpayer. In the process of remediating the tailings dam and constructing a spillway another 140 megalitres of tailings dam water was released into the waterway. The dam operates as a flow through system spilling into Straight Creek as inflows from the catchment raise the water level over the tailings. The dam water was to the mouth of the spillway at the time of the site visit.

Natural Wetland in India Filters 198 Million Gallons of Waste Every Day Without Chemicals "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

What if it was possible to filter human waste in a sanitary and eco-friendly way? We have news for you it is. In the East Kolkata Wetlands (EKW) in India, 198 million gallons of human waste is treated every day through a process called bioremediation. Not only do the wetlands keep Kolkata sewage-free, they support a fertile aquatic garden and protect the low-lying city from flooding.

As The Better India reports, the EKW is the worlds only fully functional organic sewage management system. What was once was a patchwork of low-lying salt marshes and slow-running rivers is now a vast network of man-made wetlands which are bordered by green embankments.

The kidneys of Kolkata are maintained by farmers and fisherman. Each day, the wetlands receive nearly 750 million liters of the citys waste each day. With the help of sunshine, oxygen, and microbial action, the sewage is organically treated.

Credit: YouTube

How it works

Urban waste is routed through a maze of small inlets, each managed by a fishery cooperative. The cooperatives are in charge of the inflow of the wastewater. After the sewage settles, only the clear top layers of water flow into the shallow wetland.

A parabolic fish gate is in place to separate the wetland...

Protect South Australia from Nuclear Trash the fight continues theme for March 18 "IndyWatch Feed Allaunews"

The South Australian election result by no means is a triumph for the nuclear lobby. The  politicians and media managed to side-step the vital issue of nuclear waste dumping    so the public at large seemed unaware of this issue.    South Australians have historically fought back, and won, against this nuclear threat, when they were clearly confronted with it.

South Australia now has a Premier Stephen Marshall, who says that he will destroy the Tesla big battery scheme, leading a Liberal government that no doubt would like to carry out the mission of the Federal Liberal government to stop the transition to renewable energy.

Sorry, Mr Marshall and Mr Turnbull, but that horse has already bolted away. The nuclear and coal lobbies are not going to stop the global movement towards clean energy, with places like South Australia and Australian capital Territory (ACT) in a leadership position.

As for the fraudulent claim that Kimba, South Australia must host nuclear trash as a medical necessity- South Australia, and all Australians will see through this, when they properly get the facts.

It is up to Australian who care   to expose the lies, and to explain the unwisdom of toting the Lucas Heights toxic radioactive trash for 1700 km to Kimba. Also the mysterious and mingled radioactive trash at Woomera should stay where it is and not pollute the Kimba agricultural region.

Ethereums ICO Whales Can Crash the Market at Any Time

Crypto whales are generally thought of as wealthy traders with the ability to move markets via a single sell order. Yet the greatest whales of all arent traders but ICOs which own millions of ether worth billions of dollars. Over 3% of the total ethereum supply is estimated to be in the hands of ICOs, and when those projects cash out, as periodically happens, the effects can be dramatic.

Ethereum Is at the Mercy of ICOs Cashing Out

On Sunday, while the crypto markets were enduring yet more turmoil, ethereum took a sudden nosedive, going from $516 to $464 in under two hours. Up until then, it had been one of the more stable coins compared to alts still in the experimental stage, which have absorbed the worst of the losses. Ethereums flash drop made it one of the worst performers in the cryptocurrency top 100 yesterday, shaving around 16% off its valuation. The cause of the sell-off has been attributed to one of last years ICOs offloading a significant portion of its ethereum reserves. If so, its not the first time something like this has happened, and it certainly wont be the last.

Follow-Up to Crewes Creek Weed Management "IndyWatch Feed Alllocal"

The weekend of March 11-12 saw the conclusion to concluding efforts for our Crewes Creek Weed Management Workshops that had occurred over several months. Guests at the workshop saw OCCA superstar Josh Hall give a presentation on the main stage in front of over a hundred locals at Logan City Councils Conservation Incentives Program Day. These workshops were tailored to help attendees develop skills to identify local weeds on their property and methods for effective removal. Holistic land management with respect to weeds and natural regeneration were the focus of the talk followed up with practical advice with regards to problem weeds

The morning was a success, with Logan City Council finishing up with handing out free plants.

Reflecting on the event, Josh had this to say, I talked to landholders about regeneration of their properties. Several people approached me after the presentation with interest in our know-how and help. It was a really good day, if a bit nerve-wracking.

Following on from the workshop program, OCCA has been engaged by Logan City Council to provide 14 Crewes Creek landholders with personal one-on-one dealings to provide maintenance work, expert advice on weed management and resources for a yearlong period. The first phase involving the site visitations and assessment for the properties has been completed and we will now move into one-on-one workshops with landholders. The ultimate goal is to build the capacity of landholders to manage their own land by restoring valuable wildlife habitat and biodiversity.

Cheech and Chong- two smokin fun friends! "IndyWatch Feed Alllocal"

There is no doubt that Cheech and Chong, complete with their cute and cheeky goaty antics, will bring you great belly laughs. However, their beginnings most certainly will not.  Found abandoned at a tip (its likely their homeless mother was spooked) the vulnerable little orphans, just barely days old, were lucky to have been spotted by a kind heart.  But had they not, alone they would have slowly succumbed to the elements. Or perhaps even violently died between the teeth of a predator. Seeing their will to live amongst the rubbish and despair that surrounded them, their Good Samaritan sped into action.

They hadnt taken their formula well prior to coming into our care, said sanctuary Founder Pam Ahern.  Whilst Chong was quite vocal, little Cheech was not. They were just so tiny, tipping the scales at scarcely 3kgs each.  But it wasnt long before they were engulfed by kindness, cuddles and teddy bears, which saw them taking to their special formula pretty much like a goat to a tree stump. (Goats love jumping on tree stumps J ).  Each day now, their child-like cries remind all those in ear shot, that when it comes to needing someone to love and care for them, all babies are just the same.

We give special thanks to the good folk who ensured a safe outcome for Cheech and Chong and ferried them to Edgars Mission.  Remember too, that each and every one of us has the power to make the world a kinder place for all with every decision we make and every action we undertake.

Residents resist removal of trees in Arakwal national park "IndyWatch Feed Alllocal"

Melaleucas trees to be removed. Photo supplied.

Local residents on Evans Street in Byron Bay, that backs onto the Arakwal national park, have raised concerns over the intended removal of approximately 40 melaleuca trees in the park and near their properties.

We have spent countless hours removing ute-loads of dumped rubbish and invasive weeds from the park and our immediate surrounds, said one resident David Hosking.

This included observing the natural inhabitants and the flora and fauna. Over three years we have observed and followed a family of two tawney frogmouths produce a single off spring each year in the melaleucas immediately in front of our property. Two families of butcherbirds whose nests have been rebuilt each year and a family of blue-faced honeyeaters. Not to mention the hundreds of lorikeets which appear on flowering time to gorge themselves on the nectar of the melaleucas trees.

Significant risk of fire

Responding to their concerns local community protection officer Ian Cook joined residents yesterday to discuss their concerns.

Mr Cook highlighted the significant risk on the interface between the park boundary and local properties in the area. The park boundary is an asset protection zone (APZ) and there is a legislative requirement that the National Parks and Wildlife Service(NPWS) have to protect the properties on the park boundary particularly in light of the current fires destroying homes in both NSW and Victoria.

He pointed out that there is a significant transient population that includes people travelling and camping up the coast as well as the homeless who often light fires in the park as well as almost every second home being a holiday let that increases the risk of fire and its potentially dangerous outcomes.

A spokesperson for the  office of environment and heritage said that The work is required to maintain the Asset Protection Zone, a crucial part of the fire management strategy for the park providing a buffer zone between the park and neighbouring properties.

Stop Adani films to screen in Lismore on Thursday "IndyWatch Feed Alllocal"

The Lismore Library meeting room, in Magellan Street, will be the venue for a film evening with two half-hour documentaries that look at the issues behind the Adani mine proposal and the fight to stop it, in Queenslands Galilee Basin.

Doors open at 5.30 pm this Thursday, March 22, for the event hosted by the Stop Adani Lismore group.

The 30-minute Guarding the Galilee documentary starts at 6pm and covers the issues and impact on the region if the mine goes ahead. A Mighty Force screens at 7pm and tells the story of local people and those from further afield, fighting to stop the destructive mining venture from proceeding.

There will be refreshments and live music from Triple J unearthed artist Leif Morris and it is a relaxed way for people to get a better understanding of what is at stake in the development of mega mines in the Galilee basin in Queensland, according Stop Adani group spokesperson Tom Driftwood.

Come for one or come for both movies, he said, adding, its a free event but of course donations would always be welcome on the night.

Clinton-Lynch Tarmac Meeting was Recorded by NSA, 2107 "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

Vets get 15% off. morning, Im still reporting on: Clinton-Lynch Tarmac Meeting was Recorded by NSA, 2107 Synopsis: Exactly what was discussed between then Attorney General Loretta Lynch and President Bill Clinton at the infamous secret tarmac meeting at the Phoenix airport was apparently recorded by the NSA. The notorious secret meeting was held on June 27, 2016, just a few days before then-FBI Director James Comey announced that the Justice Department would not be prosecuting Hillary Clinton over her email scandal. New responses to Judicial Watchs Freedom of Information requests proves that President Clintons contention that the meeting was purely accidental is a lie. The FBI was fully aware of it days in advance as shown by the production of redacted emails which discuss the deployment of additional FBI SWAT resources which may have been covering the event. Furthermore, the FBI attempted to cover up the tarmac meeting by targeting an FBI whistleblower. The names of the authors of a flurry of emails in search of the whistleblower have been redacted, and none of the newly-released emails show any concern about the meeting itself. In other words, it was no secret to the FBI what was going on. In fact, top level officials may have been able to review the recordings of the event in classified settings thanks to the recording system. The NSA is blocking the release of the recorded conversation based on a weak claim that it is covered by one of President Obamas many executive orders. Called Remembrance Day, it remembers the crushing of the Hungarian revolutionary army by the Russian Army after the Hungarian army had defeated the Austrian army to win its freedom. The Austrians asked for help from Russian Czar Nicholas I and he sent a giant army of nearly 300,000 men to snatch the victory from Hungary. So, Thursday was the 170 Remembrance Day since 1848. Newsweek: Is Marijuana the Worlds Most Effective Treatment for Autism? "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

by Paul Fassa
Health Impact News

On the last week of February 2018, Newsweek ran an article titled, Is Marijuana the Worlds Most Effective Treatment for Autism? The question alone was controversial. Medical marijuana for autism directly implies using cannabis on kids.

This is a shocking proposal to those who are convinced that using cannabis on kids is heinous and harmful. Another consideration widely held by those who dont know better is that using cannabis is psychotropic and shouldnt be used on minors.

But almost everyone in that group concerned about exacerbating brain disorders with cannabis are totally fine with the common practice of prescribing synthetic pharmaceuticals such as Ritalin, similar to amphetamine, and dangerous anti-psychotic drugs to young children whose behavior is even just considered socially inappropriate.

With the increasingly mounting evidence of cannabis efficacy for epilepsy, autism, and autistic children with seizures, its time to reconsider those mind-controlled biases on cannabis for children with the steadily rising rates of autism among children whose whole families are burdened with a lifetime of intense around-the-clock expensive care.

A Single Moms Desperation with a Severely Autistic Son In Israel

This story is the centerpiece of a Newsweek articles coverage, which leads to connecting Israeli doctors and researchers on the vanguard of applying medical cannabis to autistic children. The article did not use the surname of either the single mother, Sharon, or her autistic son Benjamin.

In 2016, Sharon, overwhelmed by her sons violent episodes of running in circles screaming, banging his head, destroying furniture, and intentionally defecating on the floor, was allowed to enroll in a Jerusalem pediatric clinical trial using a CBD to THC ratio of 20 to 1 cannabis oil on 60 low functioning aggressive self destructive autistic patients aged 5 to 21....

Belize creates one of Central Americas largest biological corridors "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

Belize is set to establish one of the biggest biological corridors in Central America, connecting two nature reserves that are home to jaguars and pumas, among other wildlife. The Belize northeastern biological corridor, approved by the government on Feb. 13, will span some 110 square kilometers (42 square miles) of forest, according to a press release from the Corozal Sustainable Future Initiative (CSFI), a conservation NGO in Belize. It aims to provide safe passage for species such as jaguars (Panthera onca), pumas (Puma concolor) and Bairds tapir (Tapirus bairdii) to move freely between the coastal dry forests of the Shipstern Nature Reserve and the tropical forests of the Freshwater Creek Forest Reserve. This corridor is highly important, Heron Moreno, executive director of the CSFI, told Mongabay. It will not only guarantee the long term survival of wildlife within the area but it will also contribute to the strengthening of the Belize Protected Areas System. Most importantly, it will serve to highlight the importance of Government, NGO and private partnership in conservation initiatives. This hereby paves the way and serves as a model for other similar initiatives to follow in Belize. A Bairds tapir in the Shipstern Nature Reserve in Belize. Photo courtesy of Corozal Sustainable Future Initiative The push for corridors in Belize began about two decades ago through the Mesoamerican Biological Corridor Project, a Global Environment Facility-funded effort to interlink patches of forests from Mexico through Central America to Colombia. Belizes northeastern biological corridor was one of the potentially important links that the project highlighted.

Ecuador: Sarayaku leader Patricia Gualinga defends territory despite threats "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

The struggle to protect the land and the environment in Latin America often costs lives. In 2017 alone, 116 environmental defenders were killed in the region, most of them for protecting their territories from activities such as industrial agriculture, mining, poaching and logging, according to the latest report by Global Witness. So when threats were made against land defender and Sarayaku indigenous leader Patricia Gualinga at her home in the city of Puyo, north of the Ecuadorean Amazon, it raised a red flag. This is the kind of dangerous situation that community leaders face every day. It was dawn on Jan. 5 when Gualinga was surprised by a man who broke the window of her room with a stone and threatened her. The next time I will kill you, he told me several times, Gualinga said in an interview with Mongabay. Her husband and parents were also there. I was shocked, nobody had threatened me during my leadership. A policeman passing by her house chased the attacker but never returned. The next day, Gualinga went to the provincial prosecutors office to file a complaint. It took some time, but eventually the crime report was registered. In an exclusive interview, Gualinga spoke recently with Mongabay about that day. Indonesia launches bid to restore national park thats home to tigers, elephants "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

JAKARTA The Indonesian government has unveiled an ambitious plan to restore a heavily degraded national park that is one of the last remaining habitats on Earth for the critically endangered Sumatran tiger. The restoration of Teso Nilo National Park in Riau province, on the island of Sumatra, has been two years in the planning, and is expected to serve as a model for other national parks across the country if successful. A key focus of the plan will be engaging with the communities that have moved into the ostensibly protected area and over the years cleared the land to establish settlements and plantations. Hariadi Kartodihardjo, a member of a task force of government officials, conservationists and field workers set up in 2016 to survey the various issues on the ground, said the team went from village to village to study how the land was being occupied. What they discovered was that a long history of mismanagement had allowed tens of thousands of hectares of the park and two adjacent logging concessions which together make up the Tesso Nilo forest complex to be overrun with oil palm plantations and dozens of villages. The task force also faced hostility from the villager, who, despite occupying a national park and not having any title to the land, insist on remaining there. During the first meeting [with villagers] at the park, I was kicked out by the locals, Hariadi, a senior adviser to the minister of environment and forestry, said at

Has it ever occurred to you that while using headphones to listen to music through your smartphone, you might be radiating your brain? Unfortunately that thought occurred to me, and I did some research and found out that yes in fact, listening to music with your smartphone and headphones is likely to harm you.

According to RF Safe, an organization that has conducted research on radiation claims that EMF radiation travels straight through the wire of a wired headset directly from the headphone jack to the ear, penetrating a persons head through the ear canal. They say this increases radiation exposure to a persons brain by 300%. I suppose they mean 300 percent when compared that to using a cell phone the usual way to talk.

Climate policy recommendations, to date, cluster around a very small number of recommendations, all designed to discourage demand for fossil fuels and encourage demand for renewable energy sources. Few policy recommendations address the plentiful, cheap and growing supply of fossil fuels.

This is a major mistake. It may even prove fatal to the great task ahead. And only the climate activist and policy community can fix this error.

Consider the following six points.

The Argument for Restricting the Supply of Fossil Fuels

1. Note the graph above. If it's not already clear that global warming has not just reached truly dangerous proportions, but is accelerating, what's shown in graphs like that should dispel all doubt.

Reliving the Past: A Hands-On Experience of Modern-Day Slave Labor in the Lone Star State "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

The post Reliving the Past: A Hands-On Experience of Modern-Day Slave Labor in the Lone Star State appeared first on It's Going Down.

Jason Renard Walker is Deputy Minister of Labor for the New Afrikan Black Panther Party and one of the contributors to the Fire Inside zine. Here, he describes the experience of forced unpaid work in a prison kitchen.

Since the birth of the Texas Department of Corrections (TDC), now called the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ), Texas has used a not so subtle tool of profit and anti-social control to exploit its captives via unpaid forced labor. This method, both grassroots scholars and many average laymen agree on, is akin to a benign form of slavery thus to say modern day slave labor.

In fact Texas first form of prison management was on former slave plantations. Some of these prisons are still up and running, like the Huntsville Unit which opened its doors in the mid 19th century.

If it wasnt for the induction of the 13th amendment which legalized slavery (as long as one was convicted of a crime and sent to prison) It would have been a hard bargain for prisons to profit off of the prisoners. This is because any unfair or below minimum wage pay could be challenged in civil courts simply enough. Prisoners could refuse to work in droves, which would send an economical blow to the prison industrial complex (PIC). This dilemma also made in prison labor unions, workstrikes, and organizing to achieve these ends a violation of prisons rules and a frivolous claim in state and federal civil court.

Texas revolutionized and dominated the art of exploitation and for profit prison management to such an extent that it became the pre and post Cold War poster child for self sufficiency and get rich for cheap schemes. Other state prisons began modeling their system off of this newly discovered scam. Texas was also the first state to operate a private prison.

In short it is here in Texas where it was first realized that (despite the methods and work conditions that killed prisoners) it is more fruitful to run a state prison system strictly through the means of being self reliant and at the cost of forced unpaid labor. This in fact occurred after a 1902 investigation revealed that prisoners were being rented out to farmers in exchange for currency. Farmers gave kickbacks if allowed to work the men harder (convict leasing).

Patrick Heron, Art Critic: Exploring the Limits of Abstraction "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

9780714834443On the 20th of March 1999, iconic English artist, textile designer and critic Patrick Heron died in Zennor, Cornwall, aged 79. Heron is best remembered for his semi-abstract paintings featuring vibrant colourful compositions inspired by nature. Less known perhaps is his career as an art critic to the New Statesman and Nation in 194750, and London correspondent to Arts (New York) in 19558. Although the artist turned to abstract art under the influence of American abstract painting in 1956, in his criticism he wrote extensively about the distinction between two approaches to abstraction, which, even though stylistically similar, diverged from the point of view of the subject. As early as 1949, Heron had made a distinction between the pure Mondrianesque abstraction of the 1930s and a highly individual abstract-figurative vision, which, nevertheless, relied on the perception of the outside world:

Most purely abstract artists believe that the plastic work of art should be...

It's Not Like Corruption Is Just A Republican Thing-- But It Is SUCH A Republican Thing! "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

Last week, Vicky Ward wrote the definitive piece on GOP slime machine Nick Ayers, Swamp Thing. It's like a book about an insider that few people know about. Ayers is Mike Pence's brain in the same way Rove was Bush's. He's also very handsome and the first-- of many-- pictures in the piece in the one everyone uses to imply that Pence is an obsessed repressed homosexual. This one:

Ayers in from a poor family and he's worth something like $50 million today-- having never had an honest job in his life. For years people have implied he sold his ass to rich old Republican closet cases. Washington is a city like that but... not $50 million worth. My favorite part of Ward's post is how people like Ward so get rich. I recognized it from my studies of the DCCC staffers.
Astonishingly, when Ayers entered the White House, he didnt immediately sell his lucrative business, C5 Creative Consulting, as previous administrations would have required. He also obtained a broad waiver permitting him to talk to former clients. His ownership of C5 turned his White House job into a minefield of possible conflicts of interest. As chief of staff to the vice president, Ayers duties can include advising Pence on which candidates to supportdecisions that can have a huge influence on fundraising and, hence, political adverti...

IBM's Tiny Computer for Anti-Counterfeiting "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

IBM has built a computer smaller than a grain of salt intended for anti-counterfeiting... and it uses a blockchain:

IBM has unveiled what it claims is the world's smallest computerthe size of a grain of salt. The computer will cost less than $0.10 to manufacture, and is intended for logistics applications.

The device is one type of what IBM calls "crypto-anchors""digital fingerprints" that can be embedded in everyday items in order to verify their provenance and contents. Another example of this concept is edible ink that can be stamped on pills.

The idea is to use these methods to link things to their records, which are stored on a blockchain.

Seed funded by Santos Organics, the program was established to deter plastic bag usage in the tourism sector.

It provides reusable organic cotton bags and timber stands for rooms and accomodation complexes so that tourists have shopping bags to use whilst on their stay.

Program director Paul Crebar said that with over 2 million people visiting Byron Bay, many staying overnight, the impact of getting reusable bags into visitors hands for their shopping can have a significant impact on plastic bag use, the associated waste and the waste management costs our local council incurs as a result.

Project manager Dan Smith, from Clean Coast Collective, said, given that Byron Bay is an iconic destination renowned for being at the forefront of sustainable initiatives, its fitting for us to initiate this program.

The program will strengthen the interest of tourists in our sustainable lifestyle and has the potential to be adopted by accommodation providers throughout Australia and the world which were incredibly excited about.

Plastic Free Byron welcome other accommodation providers to get in touch to organise their complimentary bags with a limited number of stands and bags offered free as part of the grant funding.

Israeli military court denies Ahed Tamimi's request for public trial "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

Israel's military appeals court ruled on Monday against an appeal by 17-year-old Palestinian activist Ahed Tamimi and her defense team to hold the teenager's trial proceedings in open court, citing historical "benefit" of closed-door trials for minors. After she was indicted for slapping and kicking an Israeli soldier, a military court decided to close the hearings to the public, citing her rights as a minor to privacy - a claim Tamimi's family and defense team claim were never afforded to her in the first place. Despite the prosecution announcing last week that it did not object to an open trial, the court decided on Monday against Tamimi's appeal. According to Fadi Quran, senior campaigner at U.S. based civic organization Avaaz and coordinator of the Free The Tamimis campaign, Tamimi's legal team has already begun working on an appeal to Monday's decision.

Outrageous! Paul Ryans $1.3 Trillion Spending Bill Funds Planned Parenthood, Sanctuary Cities Wont Fund Trump Wall "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

Speaker Paul Ryan is set to pass the largest spending bill in US history next to Barack Obamas trillion dollar failed stimulus.

President Trump spoke on Monday about the importance of the border wall with Mexico to enhance national security and battle the opioid crisis in America.

But once again it is unlikely that funding for the border wall will be included in the spending bill.
Democrats dont want it.
So it is unlikely Ryan will include it in the bill.

Planned Parenthood and funding for sanctuary cities will be included in the bill.

Politico reported:

Congressional leaders and top White House officials are clearing the way for a massive $1.3 trillion spending bill, scrapping several last-minute attempts to tack on controversial policy riders ahead of a Friday deadline to fund the government.

Trump administration and Hill GOP sources say the new spending package is unlikely to include legislation shoring up Obamacares insurance markets. One White House official called it a heavy lift even as President Donald Trump made a last-minute push Monday to include the provision in the legislation.

The president also asked GOP leaders over the weekend to include a short-term patch shielding Dreamers from deportation for 2.5 years in return for $25 billion in wall funding. But Democrats whose votes are needed for passage balked at the idea, and Republicans appear ready to drop it.

Roughly $900 million in transportation funding for a massive New York-New Jersey infrastructure project is also expected to get sidelined because of Trumps veto threat on the so-called Gateway Project. Gone too are conservative demands to defund Planned Parenthood or cut off money to sanctuary cities that protect undocumented immigrants.

Conman posing as prince outed as Prince Charles "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

This latest hustle is part of an organised racket that has succeeded in taking money from tax-payers for years.  People are being urged to use caution, and not to trust anyone claiming to be high profile members of a royal family and asking for large amounts of money for unclear purposes.

A campaign has been launched to keep people safe issued a series of guidelines:  You can usually spot a swindle with some rudimentary checks.  Do they have lots of massive houses and personal staff? Do they have a huge property portfolio?  Do they hobnob with the glitterati and attend high-society events?  If the answer to any of these is yes, then these people are already massively rich and dont need your money. In another recently unearthed high-profile sham, someone calling themselves the Queen was found to have diddled 40 million of public funds, every year, for something called a Sovereign Grant.

These fraudsters are approaching people, often civil leaders and people with responsibility, asking them to donate large amounts of money from the public purse, claiming the money is urgently needed by H.R.H.s to avoid the collapse of the state, warned a police spokesperson.

In many instances documents displaying official letterheads, seals and signatures are being used to fool victims, as well as statutes and so-called Constitutional Conventions.  Phoney newspapers with names like The Daily Mail, and The Express, have also been set up in sophisticated attempt to add legitimacy to the scam.  These can be spotted easily, though, as they are absolutely devoid of news.

Another give-away for a sting is if money transfers are requested to be made to foreign bank accounts.  This would aid the in the avoidance of detection and recovery. Police are warning people to be very suspicious of anyone asking them to send cash to tax havens:  Obviously, if these people were so integral to the United Kingdom, then their money would be domiciled in the UK so the people could benefit from the revenue, and would definitely not send it to some fiscal paradise in a cynical attempt to avoid tax.

The Chicano Art of a Red-Blooded American "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Carlos Frsquez, Salon de los Illegales (2005-present), made from altered thrift store landscapes (photo courtesy Curtis Tucker and Center for Visual Art)

To make art about the Chicano experience, Carlos Frsquez borrows from a dizzying range of influences, including pop, cubism, expressionism, and abstraction. His exhibition Sangre Colorado, on view at the Center for Visual Art at Metropolitan State University of Denver, questions what defines a red-blooded American sangre is Spanish for blood and colorado translates to red-colored. Frsquez can trace his family roots to the 1600s in what is now New Mexico, and he says in the exhibition catalogue that his family never crossed a border: the border crossed us. Frsquezs ancestors lived at the foot of the Rocky Mountains long before the Spanish conquistadors arrived, before they were transitioned to Mexican rule, and before their land rights were questioned within a new American territory. Therefore his work critically frames American as an abstract and malleable concept. For his knowledge of diverse Latino experiences, Frsquez has also become a contributor to the Smithsonian Archives of American Art.

Frsquez grew up in Denvers North Lincoln housing projects. Eventually his family moved, but he continued to stay there with his grandparents during summers. In an interview in the catalogue, Frsquez recalls walking to St. Cajetans church with his grandmother, who would call out Hola, Vecina! hello, neighbor! Because of her beckoning, his family would often arrive at the church steps with a group of 20 people. Today, the Lincoln projects are gone, and in its place stands the Auraria Campus, home to three institutions of higher education. Frsquez is a faculty member on that campus, teaching in the art department of Metropolitan State University of Denver for the last 28 years. St. Cajetan remains a student event space, just outside Frsquezs office windows.

BUREAUCRACY IN ACTION "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

The Ministry of Social Development have just announced the new benefit rates to apply from 1 April 2018 .... you can access the information here.

Included  in the schedule is this little doozy under NZ Superannuation and Veteran's Pensions ...

World War 1 veteran's lump sum payment on death ... $15,040.46.

Just how much effort did it take by some peon(s) to work out this inflation adjusted sum since, to the best of my knowledge, the last NZ veteran of that conflict, Bright Williams, died fifteen years ago ... and MSD would have known that.

Bureaucracy is a wonderful thing.

Newcrest dealing with tailings challenges in NSW and PNG "IndyWatch Feed Allaunews"

Newcrest has two adjacent tailings dams at its Cadia mine in New South Wales. The wall of the northern mine suffered a minor breach last week.

the waste management plan that Newcrest is proposing for its ground-breaking mine in PNG would simply not cut the regulatory mustard in Australia or in a host of the other key mining constituencies

Matthew Stevens | Australian Financial Review | March 19. 2018

Newcrest finds itself uncomfortably poised at the polar extremes of the mining industrys relentless waste management dilemma.

Unhappy serendipity sees the accident-prone copper and gold miner working to recover the integrity of a thoroughly conventional tailings dam at a mine in distant western New South Wales while promoting plans for a big new mine in Papua New Guinea whose viable future relies on dumping waste directly into the Solomon Sea.

Former FBI asst. director says 'high-ranking people' protected Killary from indictment "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

Former FBI Assistant Director James Kallstrom alleged Sunday that there was a conspiracy in Washington to protect Hillary Clinton from indictment. He added that ongoing chaos in Trump's cabinet may be a symptom of the plot. "Do you think somebody was directing them or do you think they just came to the conclusion on their own, this leadership at the FBI and the Department of Justice, that they wanted to change the outcome of the election?" Fox News host Maria Bartiromo asked Kallstrom, as cited by The Washington Examiner.

Franois Clouet and Renaissance France "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

Franois Clouet was painter and valet de chambre to four successive French monarchs: Franois I (r. 1515-1547), Henri II (r. 1547-1559), Franois II (r. 1559-1560), and Charles IX (r. 1560-1574). This is a chalk portrait of Cardinal Charles de Guise, one of the political leaders of the era and main instigators of the civil wars between Catholics and Protestants.

Although Clouet is now quite famous, most of his work is unsigned and the attribution of many paintings is disputed. This is one of only two paintings that actually bears his signature, The Apothecary Pierre Quthe, 1562. Quthe (I know it looks like a Star Trek alien or a barbarian from a fantasy novel, but it's a real French name) was Clouet's friend and neighbor.

Franois Clouet was born some time between 1515 and 1520. His father, Jean Clouet, was also a court painter, and presumably taught his son, although this is not certain because it was common among artisans to apprentice one's sons to someone else. Admiral Gaspard II de Coligny, 1565-70.

"If You Come to a Fork in the Road, Take It" "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

"If You Come to a Fork in the Road, Take It"
by James Howard Kunstler

Various readers, fans, blog commenters, Facebook trolls, and auditors twanged on me all last week about my continuing interest in the RussiaRussiaRussia hysteria, though there is no particular consensus of complaint among them except for a general shut up, already motif. For the record, Im far more interested in the hysteria itself than the Russia-meddled-in the-election case, which I consider to be hardly any case at all beyond 13 Russian Facebook trolls.

The hysteria, on the other hand, ought to be a matter of grave concern, because it appears more and more to have been engineered by Americas own intel community, its handmaidens in the Dept of Justice, and the twilights last gleamings of the Obama White House, and now it has shoved this country in the direction of war at a time when civilian authority over the US military looks sketchy...

Recession: When You See It, It Will Be Too Late "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

While the calls of a recession may seem far-fetched based on todays economic data points, no one was calling for a recession in early 2000 or 2007 either. By the time the data is adjusted, and the eventual recession is revealed, it wont matter as the damage will have already been done.
