Permaculture Design Certificate (PDC) with David Holmgren "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

<p><p><h3>Why study permaculture?</h3> <p><strong>Join us for internationally-recognised permaculture training that will help you design sustainable, abundant homes, businesses, professions and communities.</strong></p> <p>Whilst population growth and consumption levels are pushing our Planet towards a catastrophic environmental tipping point, permaculture design offers a way that we, as individuals and communities, can take control of our future and live sustainably.</p> <p>It is a design system which draws upon the great truths of traditional knowledge, modern scientific understandings and the ethics of a peaceful and democratic society. Developed in Australia in the late 70s by Bill Mollison and David Holmgren, it is now taught in over 150 countries. Over a million people have graduated from Design Courses and are using this tool to build resilience and diversity into their lives, their local communities & in the workplace.

David Suzuki dubs permaculture 'Australia's greatest intellectual export'.

Permaculture can be employed by anyone, whatever profession or skill, on any scale: from individual, household, urban or rural, to balconies, backyards & neighbourhoods, to farms, factories, businesses, schools and cities anywhere on the planet and in any climate. It offers a sustainable landscape, dignified human-scale living and self-reliant children who have the confidence to design a sustainable future for themselves.

Permaculture is based on three ethics: Care of the Earth, Care of Community and Acceptance of personal responsibility for consumption and population. Many practical design principles, technologies and strategies have evolved to make permaculture one of the most accessible and dynamic solutions to the issues we face in the 21st Century.

The Mask Mandates Did Nothing. Will Any Lessons Be Learned? "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

The most rigorous and comprehensive analysis of scientific studies conducted on the efficacy of masks for reducing the spread of respiratory illnesses including Covid-19 was published late last month. Its conclusions, said Tom Jefferson, the Oxford epidemiologist who is its lead author, were unambiguous. "There is just no evidence that they" masks "make any difference," he told the journalist Maryanne Demasi. "Full stop." But, wait, hold on. What about N-95 masks, as opposed to lower-quality surgical or cloth masks? "Makes no difference none of it," said Jefferson. These observations don't come from just anywhere. Jefferson and 11 colleagues conducted the study for Cochrane, a British nonprofit that is widely considered the gold standard for its reviews of health care data. The conclusions were based on 78 randomized controlled trials, six of them during the Covid pandemic, with a total of 610,872 participants in multiple countries. And they track what has been widely observed in the United States: States with mask mandates fared no better against Covid than those without. People may have good personal reasons to wear masks, and they may have the discipline to wear them consistently. Their choices are their own. But when it comes to the population-level benefits of masking, the verdict is in: Mask mandates were a bust. The mainstream experts and pundits who supported mandates were wrong.

Trial of Mexico's Former Top Cop Neglected U.S. Role in War on Drugs "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

Genaro Garca Luna, Mexico's former top law enforcement official known as the "architect" of the Mexican side of the drug war, was found guilty in New York federal court of collaborating with the Sinaloa cartel, the biggest organized crime group in North America. For years, Garca Luna was the U.S. government's most trusted ally in the war on drugs. As public security secretary, he wielded incredible power, overseeing Mexico's Federal Police, the prison network, and a vast intelligence-gathering infrastructure, while working with the Drug Enforcement Administration, FBI, CIA, and Department of Homeland Security in the fight against Mexican cartels. The case portrayed Garca Luna and his network of corrupt officials as a handful of bad apples, and what U.S. officials knew about Garca Luna's illicit activities went mostly unexplored, despite the government's role in providing funding, equipment, and training that has fueled drug-related violence. Garca Luna was found guilty of all five charges, including drug trafficking and continuing a criminal enterprise. Prosecutors alleged that he received around $274 million in bribes from the cartel from 2001 to 2012, first as head of the Federal Investigative Agency, the Mexican equivalent of the FBI, and then as secretary of public security. Garca Luna left public office in 2012 following a change in presidency and moved to Miami where he started a security consulting company and lived a lavish lifestyle.

'Extinction is on the table': Jaron Lanier warns of tech's existential threat to humanity "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

Jaron Lanier, the eminent American computer scientist, composer and artist, is no stranger to skepticism around social media. The web is not a free market of information as originally envisioned. It is a gamed system being rampantly abused. [Lanier] helped create modern ideologies Web 2.0 futurism, digital utopianism, among them. But Lanier is no longer a fan of how the digital utopia is coming along. He's called it "digital Maoism" and accused tech giants like Facebook and Google of being "spy agencies". In his latest thinking Lanier draws attention to Harvard psychologist BF Skinner's theories of "operant conditioning", or behavior controlled by its consequences, otherwise known as behavior modification. In Skinner's studies, lab rats were subjected alternately to electric shocks and treats to achieve a change in response. On social media, he says, we experience something similar. Approval, disapproval or being ignored, such techniques can be manipulated online as part of what is euphemistically called "engagement" and the creation of addictive patterns for individuals and then by proxy eventually whole societies. "As we enter an era where nothing means anything because it's all just about power, intermediation and influence, it's very hard to put ideas out and very easy for them to come across not as intended," he said. "I do believe that our survival depends on modifying the internet to create a structure that is friendlier to human cognition and to the ways people really are."

Note: This was written by Jaron Lanier, who is widely considered to be the "Father of Virtual Reality." For more along these lines, see concise summaries of deeply revealing news articles on media manipulation from reliable sources.

How the Supreme Court could re-shape the internet as you know it "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

Passed in 1996, Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act sought to foster the growth of the early internet. Congress created a special form of legal immunity for websites so they could develop uninhibited by lawsuits that might suffocate the ecosystem. In the time since, companies ... have invoked Section 230 to nip user-content lawsuits in the bud, arguing, usually successfully, that they are not responsible for the content their users create. Democrats say the law has given websites a free pass to overlook hate speech and misinformation; Republicans say it lets them suppress right-wing viewpoints. The Supreme Court [is] reviewing Section 230; Congress and the White House have also proposed changes to the law. Understanding how the internet may work differently without Section 230 ... starts with one, simple concept: Shrinking the liability shield means exposing websites and internet users to more lawsuits. A Supreme Court ruling restricting immunity for recommendations could mean any decision to like, upvote, retweet or share content could be identified as a "recommendation" and trigger a viable lawsuit. One option would be to preemptively remove any and all content that anyone, anywhere could even remotely allege is objectionable ... reducing the range of allowed speech on social media. Another option would be to stop moderating content altogether, to avoid claims that a site knew or should have known that a piece of objectionable material was on its platform.

As crime-solving goes hi-tech, public defenders scramble to keep up "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

Caleb Kenyon, a defense attorney in Florida, saw a geofence warrant was when a new client received an alarming email from Google in January 2020. Police were requesting personal data from the client, Zachary McCoy, and Kenyon had just seven days to stop Google from turning it over, the email said. The geofence warrant included a map and GPS coordinates, and instructed Google to provide identifying information for every user whose device was found within the radius of that location at a certain date and time. "It was so bizarre that I just didn't even have a concept for what I was dealing with," he said. Kenyon is not alone. As tech firms build ever more sophisticated means of surveilling people and their devices technology that law enforcement is eager to take advantage of the legal community is scrambling to keep up. The National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL) ... recently created the Fourth Amendment Center, named for the constitutional right against unreasonable searches. The center is one of the few resources available for helping attorneys better understand how new technology is being used against their clients. It can be years before the defense community catches wind of the newest surveillance tools. Unlike other search warrants, geofence warrants don't require probable cause or a specific suspect in mind; they gather information on anyone within the vicinity of an alleged crime. Advocates argue this violates the fourth amendment.

Three Years Late, the Lancet Recognizes Natural Immunity "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

The Lancet medical journal this month published a review of 65 studies that concluded prior infection with Covidi.e., natural immunityis at least as protective as two doses of mRNA vaccines. "Immunity acquired from a Covid infection is as protective as vaccination against severe illness and death, study finds," NBC reported on Feb. 16. The study found that prior infection offered 78.6% protection against reinfection from the original Wuhan, Alpha or Delta variants at 40 weeks, which slipped to 36.1% against Omicron. Protection against severe illness remained around 90% across all variants after 40 weeks. These results exceed what other studies have found for two and even three mRNA doses. This comes after nearly three years of public-health officials' dismissing the same hypothesis. But now that experts at the University of Washington have confirmed it in a leadingand left-leaningjournal, it's fit to print. The Lancet study's vindication of natural immunity fits a pandemic pattern: The public-health clerisy rejects an argument that ostensibly threatens its authority; eventually it's forced to soften its position in the face of incontrovertible evidence; and yet not once does it acknowledge its opponents were right. The concept of natural immunity isn't scientifically controversial, yet it was disparaged by public-health officials who associated it with opposition to lockdowns and the Great Barrington Declaration in autumn 2020.

The CDC's Long-Covid Deception "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

Consider a recent study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that claims to find that nearly 36% of Covid cases among students, faculty and staff at George Washington University resulted in "long Covid." The study suggests ... that the unvaccinated were at more than twice as high a risk of developing long Covid as those fully vaccinated who had gotten boosters. This sounds plausible. But drill down, and it becomes clear that the evidence is too thin to draw any conclusions. The study ... doesn't include a control group. The finding that nearly 36% reported long Covid symptoms is meaningless without such a sample to determine how common such symptoms were among people who never had Covid. Long Covid in general isn't well-defined, but the study defines it expansively to include problems common among college studentsdifficulty making decisions, fatigue, anxiety, sadness, trouble sleeping and the catch-all "other symptoms." If a student reported at least one physical or psychological problem, he was classified as having long Covid. A CDC survey in January 2021 reported that 57% of respondents between 18 and 29 had experienced anxiety or depression within the previous seven days. A November 2021 study ... found that many people with persistent physical symptoms that are commonly ascribed to long Covid didn't test positive for antibodies. A belief that one had Covid was more strongly associated with physical symptoms than a lab-confirmed infection.

The pandemic spawned a better model for family courts "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

With the recent news that the Biden administration will end the COVID-19 public health emergencies this spring, it is time to take stock of the different policies and adaptations that came out of the lockdowns. Initially ... the lockdowns meant that courts were shut down in most states, creating long waits and lack of access to vital judicial proceedings. But the courts quickly pivoted. Despite initial technological challenges, the switch to remote family court hearings saved time and money, increased participation in court proceedings, improved legal representation for families living in rural areas, and created a more welcoming environment for children. This week, the American Enterprise Institute is releasing a report, authored by Maura Corrigan, former director of Michigan Health and Human Services, explaining what we can learn from how these courts operated and what practices we should use in the post-pandemic era. Major studies done on remote hearings found benefits to the practice, particularly in terms of participation. Parties to these hearings appreciated the end of "cattle call" docketing, which forced participants to wait (in person) until their case was called a significant waste of time and resources for parties, attorneys, witnesses, the public and the judges. Under the new remote system, the times for these hearings were precise, wasting neither the time nor the resources of any parties to the case. There were also many anecdotal reports that children felt more comfortable in remote hearings.

As Public Trust Wanes, FDA Pledges to 'Save Lives' by Policing Online Content "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

Since U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Dr. Robert Califf began his second tenure as the agency's head in February 2022, he has made combating "misinformation" one of his top priorities, arguing it is "a leading cause of preventable death in America now" though "this cannot be proved," he said. In an interview ... Califf, who also headed the FDA between 2016 and 2017, reiterated his pledge to "save lives" by policing online content. The FDA may be facing an uphill battle, as multiple factors are combining to foster public mistrust toward the agency. For instance, in January, Frank Yiannas, the FDA's deputy commissioner for food policy and response, resigned over concerns about the FDA's oversight structure. A 2022 study by The BMJ found that the FDA gets 65% of its funding for drug evaluation from industry user fees, while another 2022 study found that 95% of the members of an HHS committee that establishes dietary guidelines for Americans have one or more conflicts of interest with industry actors. Members of the FDA's Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee have also been found to have conflicts of interest with the very pharmaceutical companies and vaccine manufacturers they are meant to be regulating. And while public health authorities in other countries have begun to come forward with admissions that the COVID-19 vaccines resulted in cases of myocarditis and death, no such admissions appear to be forthcoming from the FDA at this time.

The CDC Is Breaking Trust in Childhood Vaccination "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

On June 18, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) officially recommended Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines for all children between the ages of 6 months and 5 years. While the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is the agency responsible for authorizing emergency use of vaccines, it's the CDC that crafts subsequent messaging, makes specific recommendations, and prioritizes who can, should, or should not get vaccinated. In her briefing, CDC Director Rochelle Walensky strongly urged all parents of the nearly 20 million American children in this age group to vaccinate them as soon as possible. There remains ... no solid consensus among physicians about the importance of vaccinating healthy children against COVID-19. In a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) meeting on June 28, Pfizer Vice President for Viral Vaccines Kena Swanson even acknowledged that "there is no established correlate" between antibody levels and protection from disease. Approval for the COVID vaccines in infants and toddlers is based on two trials that used changes in antibody levels as an estimate of efficacy, but did not assess protection from severe disease, hospitalization, or multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C), important outcomes that parents worry about. Additionally, neither trial met the 50% efficacy requirement established by the FDA for approval of adult COVID vaccines. More puzzling is the fact that ... the pediatric vaccines now being administered target an outdated variant.

This Minecraft library is making censored journalism accessible all over the world "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

Minecraft has established itself as a cultural phenomenon for many reasons: it's creative, collaborative, and sufficiently facile as to be considered accessible to almost anybody. These benefits ... form the perfect vehicle for Reporters Without Borders' Uncensored Library, a virtual hub housing a collection of otherwise inaccessible journalism from all over the world, with specific sections devoted to Russia, Egypt, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, and Vietnam. "In Egypt there's no free information," Reporters Without Borders media and public relations officer Kristin Bsse tells me. Mexico is the country where journalists are most at risk, she adds, with governmental and cartel interference often culminating in the death of those voices deemed dissident. "It's a different form of censorship," Bsse explains. "People don't want to publish because they're scared." "In the Mexico room we built memorials to 12 Mexican journalists who have been murdered," [said Blockworks managing director James] Delaney. Delaney tells me that the forms of censorship in Egypt are more blatant. "The articles you see in this room are actually banned," he explains. "If you live in Egypt you're unable to access them unless you come to our Minecraft server." This is the case for the Russian, Vietnamese, and Saudi Arabian sections, too. "The content you find in these rooms is illegal, but we can see from the server logins that we've already had people from all five of these countries join and read up on this information," he says.

How to Fix TwitterAnd All of Social Media "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

Those debating the future of Twitter and other social-media platforms have largely fallen into two opposing camps. One supports individuals' absolute freedom of speech; the other holds that speech must be modulated through content moderation, and by tweaking the ways in which information spreads. Both sides are peddling an equally dismal vision. My purpose here is to point out a logical third option. In this approach, a platform would require users to form groups through free association, and then to post only through those groups. This simple, powerful notion could help us escape the dilemma of supporting online speech. Platforms like Facebook and Reddit have similar structuresgroups and subredditsbut those are for people who share notifications and invitations to view and post in certain places. The groups I'm talking about, sometimes called "mediators of individual data" or "data trusts," are different: Members would share both good and bad consequences with one another, just like a group shares the benefits and responsibilities of a loan in microlending. This mechanism has emerged naturally ... on the software-development platform GitHub. Whatever its size, each group will be self-governing. Some will have a process in place for reviewing items before they are posted. Others will let members post as they see fit. It will be a repeat of the old story of people building societal institutions and dealing with unavoidable trade-offs, but people will be doing this on their own terms.

Can We Build Less Biased Medical Bots? "IndyWatch Feed Allworld"

Avery Smith ... and LaToya, a podiatrist, tied the knot in 2008. A year and a half into their marriage ... she was diagnosed with Stage 2A Melanoma. A minor surgical procedure is usually enough to cure it. But the following 18 months were revealing for Smith; on December 9th, 2011, LaToya died. He was left scarred by the experience: "I learned about going through illness while being Black," he says. Today, over a decade later, Smith is putting his skills as a software developer to work in an effort to end the racial bias and inequity in skin care that contributed to his wife's death. In 2021, he launched Melalogic, a Baltimore-based startup that provides skin health resources to people with dark skin. A 2016 study shows that the five-year survival rate of Black people with skin cancer is 65 percent, compared to 92 percent for white people. The problem is rooted in racial inequities and biases in medical research and technology. In skin cancers, for instance, AI systems have been used to drastically improve diagnosis. However, these are mostly helpful to white people because diagnostic AI datasets are trained with images of white skin. Smith teamed up with dermatologist Dr. Adewole Adamson to conduct a research project, endorsed by the American Medical Association, on machine learning and health care disparities in dermatology. It was from the research's findings that Smith conceived Melalogic, an app ... dedicated to providing Black people with skin health resources.

A Case for Quails "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Aloha!
Once upon a time, when lockdown started on this island (around March 26th 2020), I had my heart set on getting a good flock of egg layers (and possibly meat birds too.) My mission was to find the best tasting eggs and I read lots of good things about quails. I also wanted Indian Runner ducks, but decided to take the quail route because I was less familiar with them and I wanted to see if I could get them on the island.

At that time, it was tricky and the only person who was willing...

The SNPs Stephen Flynns takedown of Rishi Sunaks stop the boats policy was brilliantly done "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Countless Americans Plunge Into Despair As Hunger Spreads Like Wildfire All Across America "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

This article was originally published by Michael Snyder at The Economic Collapse Blog.

We havent seen anything like this in a long time.  A couple of factors are combining to push millions of Americans into a state of food insecurity.  First of all, food prices have been rising aggressively throughout the past year, so our money does not go nearly as far as it once did.  Meanwhile, food stamp benefits are being slashed.

The federal government had greatly enhanced food stamp benefits for many Americans during the pandemic, but now that emergency program is coming to an end.  So what this means is that many Americans are going to have very little money to spend on food at a time when economic conditions are starting to get really rough.

The Washington Post recently sent a reporter named Tim Craig to Kentucky, and he discovered that poor people are waiting in a mile-long line just to get some free food

As he claimed the first spot in a mile-long line for free food in the Appalachian foothills, Danny Blair vividly recalled receiving the letter announcing that his pandemic-era benefit to help buy groceries was about to be slashed.

Kentucky lawmakers had voted to end the states health emergency last spring, by default cutting food stamp benefits created to help vulnerable Americans like Blair weather the worst of covid-19. Instead of $200 a month, he would get just $30.

Blair actually gets up at 4 AM in the morning so that he can be first in line for these handouts.

On the Friday that the reporter from the Washington Post interviewed him, he ended up staying in that line for nine hours.

I couldnt imagine waiting in line for that long, but Blair feels like this is what he and his wife must do in order to survive

He crumpled up the letter and threw it on the floor of his camper.

I thought, Wow, the government is trying to kill us now, said Blair, 63, who survives on his Social Security disability check and lives in a mobile home with his wife after their house burned down five years ago. They are going to starve us out.

Blair and his wife hop into their truck twice a month at 4 a.m...

From Dr. Mercola:

Story at-a-glance

  • Investigative journalist Whitney Webb reveals the inner workings of the World Economic Forum (WEF), the driving force behind The Great Reset
  • Beneath WEFs benevolent surface, it becomes clear that corporatism and, more aptly, fascism, are its modus operandi
  • WEFs Board of Trustees is packed with powerful and prominent representatives from government and multinational corporations like BlackRock, Salesforce and Nestl

Bored at Work? Heres What Your Brain Is Trying to Tell You "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

That we spend much, if not most, of our lives working is, in itself, not necessarily a bad thing unless, that is, were bored doing it. In the Big Think video above, London Business School Professor of Organizational Behavior Dan Cable cites Gallup polls showing that about 70 percent of people are not engaged in what they do all day long, and about eighteen percent of people are repulsed. This may sound normal enough, but Cable calls these perceptions of work as a thing that we have to get through on the way to the weekend a humanistic sickness: a bad condition for people, of course, but also for the organizations who get lackluster performance.

Cable traces the civilizational roots of this at-work boredom back to the decades after the Industrial Revolution. In the mid-nineteenth century, a shoe-shopper would go to the local cobbler. Each of the people in the store would watch the customer walk in, and then theyd make a shoe for that customer. But toward the end of the century, we got this different idea, as a species, where we should not sell two pairs of shoes each day, but two million.

The governments Illegal Migration Bill remains a talking point on traditional and social media a day after its launch.

One of several posters shared by the Conservatives laid out some of the rights that would be denied to people arriving without prior agreement.

The policy is bad enough without help, but the wording was so poorly chosen we hope that it made modern slavery seem like a legal option in some circumstances.

If someone is trafficked to the UK, they wont be entitled to help to escape their traffickers because their entry was illegal. If they come here through one of the tiny amounts of approved routes, they can access the UKs modern slavery system but they wont need to.

Joseph Heller would be proud.

Making a Silk Purse Out of a Sows Ear: Erick Turner on How Bad Research Practices Are Undermining Our Health "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Erick Turner is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU). He is also a senior scholar with OHSUs Center for Ethics and Health Care.

Dr. Turner has been an FDA reviewer and has dedicated his work and life to improving research transparency. Hes well known for his work on publication bias and antidepressant trials, but his findings show that psychotherapy research is also riddled with problems.

What happens when those we trust with knowledge in our society betray us? In todays interview, we discuss how dubious research practices are not simply the work of a few bad apples but instead built into the way we produce knowledge. We further explore the consequences of these practices on patients and the dangerous tradition of journal worship before exploring how many of these problems can be solved.

The transcript below has been edited for length and clarity. Listen to the audio of the interview here.

Ayurdhi Dhar: In 2008, you conducted a review of antidepressant trials to check for publication bias. Clinicians, researchers, and service users need trials that accurately and truthfully tell them whether a drug works and has adverse effectsthe question of efficacy and safety. You found massive problems in the way antidepressant trials were published. What is publication bias, and what did you find in the 2008 review?

Erick Turner: In simplest terms, its picking and choosing what gets published and how it gets published.

Dhar: By authors and by journals?

Turner: Yes, both. It takes two to tango. We used FDA review documents. You can see all the results of all the trials that were done. These may or may not be published, which is the essence of publication bias. We took a cohort of antidepressant trials for 12 drugs. We tracked them into the published literature to see whether each trial was published and, if so, how it was published. Was it published in a way that agreed with the FDA data or not?

We found that if you only look at what ended up in the published literature, you would have the impression that virtually all the trials were positive. That means the drug demonstrated a statistical superiority to the placebo. So, it looked like the drugs couldnt fail. However, if you look at the FDA review documents, you find there were quite a few more trials you didnt even know existed from just looking into the published literature.

Furthermore, the way the results panned out...

Essential Japanese Cinema: A Journey Through 50 of Japans Beautiful, Often Bizarre Films "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

In 2018, Hirokazu Kore-edas Shoplifters won the Palme dOr at Cannes. The award itself came as less of a surprise than did the fact that Shoplifters was the first of Kore-edas films to win it, given how long hed been the most widely acclaimed Japanese filmmaker alive. And though it had been more than twenty years since the Palme last went to a Japanese movie Shomei Imamuras The Eel, in 1997 Japan had long since established itself at Cannes as the Asian country to beat. Imamuras The Ballad of Narayama had won the Palme in 1983, Akira Kurosawas Kagemusha in 1980, and Teinosuke Kinugasas Gate of Hell in 1954, when Western cinephiles were only just starting to appreciate Japanese cinema.

Why has that appreciation proven so enduring? This is one question investigated by The Essential Japanese Cinema, a video essay from The Cinema Cartography. Narrator Luiza Liz Bond emphasized the heightened aesthetic sensibility of Japanese filmmakers, on display in the tender observation of Ozus Tokyo Story, the poetic rhapsody of Kurosawas Dreams, the harrowing feminine gaze of Videophobia. But one can find examples just as rich and even more various in lesser-known films from Japan such as Shji Terayamas engag experimental drama Throw Away Your Books, Rally in the Streets, Kaiz Hayashis oneiric silent-film pastiche To Sleep as to Dream, and Gakury Ishiis subtly psychedelic and science-fictional coming-of-age tale August in the Water.

Enraged Ben Shapiro Challenges boygenius To Publicly Play In Battle of the Bands Against Him "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

WESTCHASE, Fla. Self-proclaimed smartypants Ben Shapiro reportedly flew into a tizzy and demanded indie folk supergroup boygenius publicly perform in a local Battle of the Bands against him to prove that the group was really deserving of its moniker, petulant sources confirmed.

Im the real smartest boy around and everybody knows it. If anyone should have the name boygenius, as well as all associated copyrights and commercial opportunities, then it should be me! said Shapiro, currently on his fifth attempt to punch his frail little baby fist through a sheet of brittle drywall. So I am now formally calling out the band to compete against me in this musical Thunderdome, held in the Westchase First Baptist Church gymnasium this Sunday. That will be plenty of time for this wunderkind to brush up on his sick violin chops and blow all those mouthbreathers out of the fucking swamp water.

boygenius, though not initially inclined to respond, eventually just kind of said fuck it.

I dont know, man. At first we were all like lets just ignore this guy who cares about the name? But then he just kept Tweeting at us pictures of himself standing in front of Guitar Center holding a single tuning peg with a receipt and we decided we cannot abide that dude calling himself any kind of a genius, explained Julien Baker, who is currently hitchhiking on a lonesome, windswept highway somewhere. I wish I could say we dont have much stake in this battle, but if Im being honest, that bozo is going down so fucking hard. This is gonna be even better than that time I cold-cocked that guy who had the nerve to call me Jules.

Music community members remain divided on the relevance of what some lazier media outlets have dubbed Geniusgate.

Im still pretty confused as to what exactly is going on here. Why, of all places, would they choose to do this in Florida? questioned Pitchfork news editor Gary Sanchez. Of course [Shapiro] hasnt got a shot in the world The Record isnt even released yet and Pitchfork already gave it a 9.4 and said it was a once in a generation masterpiece. Still, it should be pretty fun to watch. If Shapiros music is anywhere as stupid as his screenwriting then this is gonna be a bloodbath.

At press time, conservative media outlets had preemptively begun hailing Shapiro as the next Clint Cobain.

How I Landed My Dream Job by Showing Just a Little Bit of Nut in My LinkedIn Profile Pic "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

If you want to compete in todays job market, you need to create a personal brand. You need to show potential employers why youre the right candidate for the position, and you dont have a lot of time and space to do so. Research shows that recruiters will look at a candidates LinkedIn profile for ten seconds before moving on to the next. So how do you make your profile stand out to a job recruiter? You can start by letting a little nut or nip slip out in your profile pic.

You dont want to overdo it. Make it something they could almost miss with a quick glance. This will humanize you to recruiters while also letting them know that youre down to party if the job calls for it. You also need to make sure you choose a solid background for your profile photo something that doesnt distract front the main event too much. I used my display of empty Skol vodka bottles I have duck taped to the wall in my living room.

Too many candidates will post universities or colleges in the Education section. Recruiters get tired of reading Dartmouth and Stanford over and over again. Give yourself the edge by listing your top 3 Metallica albums instead. After all, Professor Het taught you way more than that geriatric Comp instructor at Johnson Community College ever did. And dont just pick the first three albums throw a curveball in there like Load, or even Re-Load if you think you can back it up during an interview.

If you find yourself getting an in-person interview, make sure your show up with the same nut or nip slipped out. Recruiters really frown on it when a person doesnt look like their profile photo. Try to answer their questions with the confidence of a Tool fan explaining Lateralus to their nephew at the kids table during Thanksgiving. And when the interview concludes, shake hands with the recruiter, giving them that gross little finger scratch on their palm. This will make you more memorable when they start the review process.

Too many candidates rely only on boring stuff like having relevant work experience or passing a Criminal Background Check. So put your best nut forward and show them whos the right choice.

Weird Twin Brothers Voted Most Likely to Be Rhythm Section in Metal Band "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. Twin brothers Earl and Wayne Dunlap were chosen Most Likely to Be Rhythm Section in Metal Band by their fellow seniors, according to unsurprised sources at West Glenville High School.

We dont even play instruments! exclaimed Earl Dunlap while feeding the twins pet snakes. Everybody at that damn school judges us. Just because were twins, have long hair, and set the school record for suspensions doesnt mean were going to be in a rock band together. Whatever, I guess its better than sophomore year when we were voted Most Likely to Form a Regional Pro Wrestling Tag Team Whose Biggest Brush with Fame is Losing an Untelevised Preliminary Match before an Episode of WWE Smackdown. Our school has really specific superlatives.

Although the twins questioned the student bodys selection, school administration endorsed the possibility that the twins would soon join a touring band.

Honestly, whatever it takes to get those shitheads out of here, bemoaned West Glenville High School principal Larry McDufferson. Ill take them to Sam Goody and buy them the instruments myself if I have to. When they arent fighting each other, theyre destroying the damn school. Its the reason weve gone through five assistant principals in three years. Hell, the state shut down our metal shop program because they somehow built a fully operational Twisted Metal style vehicle and used it to storm the football field.

Despite their lack of musical talent or interest, experts agree that the Dunlap boys have a clear path to rock stardom.

From Pantera to the Stooges to Every Time I Die, rock bands are full of siblings and, especially, sibling rivalries, noted rock journalist Alison Redding. Twins are even better! It doesnt matter that they dont play music yet. Whats more essential is that they despise each other. The archetypal role of twins in a rock band is to fight constantly until the band breaks up and they each join competing Dave Grohl side projects.

As of press time, the twins were last seen drinking beer on the roof of the school as Principal McDufferson shouted at them through a megaphone.

This week the Hard Times takes a look at Electrified Brain, the latest offering from legendary Richmond thrashers Municipal Waste.

At least, we thought we were going toTurns out, between releasing a movie and touring relentlessly with his Ill-Advised Vanity tour, the clown prince of pop himself Weird Al Yankovic somehow also found the time to write a full-length parody album of Electrified Brain entitled Perfect Refried BeanI mean, you gotta hand it to the guy, he never stops working!

Anyway, long story short, we got our hands on the wrong album. But, if youre not one to bristle at spoilers, we listened to Perfect Refried Bean to let you know what each Electrified Brain track got parodied as. It was honestly a blast. Check it out:

Electrified Brain: Perfect Refried Bean is about one foodies quest to find the ideal refried bean.

Demoralizer: The Floral Miser is the tale of an Ebenezer Scrooge-like character who hoards pretty flowers.

Last Crawl: Vast Haul is a song detailing all the neat stuff a hoarder got at the flea market which included a ton of accordions.

Grave Dive: Shave Drive is about what its like being late for work and shaving on your commute.

The Bite: The Wrights is of course an educational song about pioneers of aviation.

High-Speed Steel: I Breed Seals is the saga of a strange man who runs an exotic animal farm.

Thermonuclear Protection: This ones just the obligatory Thermonuclear Protection Polka

Blood Vessel / Boat Jail: Mud Wrestle Coat Fail is about a mud wrestler who forgets to take off their extremely expensive Gucci jacket beforehand.

Crank the Heat: Hank Retreat tells the story of a fantasy camp where men can live like Hank Hill for a week.

Restless and Wicked: Zest-Lessened Sick Kid is a somber tune about a sad child in a plastic bubble.

Ten Cent Beer Night: Trenchant Ear Mite is about a person in a Cyrano-type situation who gets witty lines fed to him by a bug in his ear.

Barreled Rage: Chair Fold Rage, you know how frustrating it is to deal with lawn chairs at the beach? Thats what Weird Al sings about here.

Putting on Errors: Footing Drawn Terrors is the terrible tale of a horror illustrator who secretly cant draw feet.

Paranormal Janitor: Wheres the Formal Dance, Centaur? a fanciful song about a limo full of teens asking a half man/ half horse how to get to prom.

And there you have it. Pretty impressive, right? I mean, the guys been in the music business for forty years and hes still coming up with interesting ways to make songs about things you can eat for lunch. I cant imagine how honored the Munici...

She Wants Her Daughter to Make Her Wedding Cake Even Though Her Partner Is Refusing. Is She Wrong? "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

As we all know, things get extremely complicated when it comes to planning a wedding.

There are so many details to work out that it can drive a wedge between couples and it can get ugly.

And a woman asked the readers on Reddits Am I the A**hole? page if shes wrong for wanting her daughter to make the cake for her upcoming wedding.

Read on to see whats going on here.

AITA for wanting my daughter to make my wedding cake although my future husband is refusing?

I (F-36) have a daughter (F-16) who loves baking, and shes incredibly good at it. Its her passion since she was 3 and I encourage her to follow it and discover more ways to become better at it. I even enrolled her in few classes in academy to learn more.

I met my fiance (M-41) 2 and a half years ago. Were getting married soon. And for the wedding cake I had an idea whichs to have my daughter bake the cake and decorate it for us. My daughter agreed and was so excited to do it.

My fiance glanced at me when he heard about it then when we were alone he snapped and said I cant believe youre being serious about this I told him why not, its not like were having a huge formal wedding with many guests. Just a small party with our family and loved ones.

He said this was a f**king joke and that he will not let a child bake our wedding cake while there are tons of professional bakers out there who can make a much more decent looking/tasting one. MSM, Politicians, Desperately Attempt Damage Control Over Jan 6 Videos "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Author of Be Ready for Anything and Bloom Where Youre Planted online course

This week, Tucker Carlson and Fox News aired some video footage from the January 6 insurrection. Its not the video weve seen all over the media, filled with terrifying images of barely contained rage.

Instead, its footage of a man who was supposedly murdered by the crowd going about his business. Its a video of that dude with the bison hat, calmly and submissively walking along with Capitol guards who clearly escorted him into the building and took him around to different doors to breach the Senate floor.

Ive largely stayed away from coverage of the incidents that took place on January 6th, 2021. I felt that we werent getting the whole story and that it was incredibly biased, but it also really did appear that people were behaving badly. Since we werent getting accurate information, I left it alone for the most part.

However, watching this footage and comparing it to the public narrative that is seeing these people prosecuted, imprisoned, and severely punished is mind-blowingly destructive to that work of fiction that the Congressional January 6 committee is trying to pass off as fact. The report is filled with breathless rhetoric about the fear the members of Congress felt, and how they were told to take off their lapel pins to make them harder to identify.

After watching this other video that has, up until now, been hidden from the public, their findings make me want to vomit.

It makes a lot of other people feel queasy too, but for entirely different reasons.

The MSM is trying to do damage control.

People who still believe in the mainstream media are having their opinions formed for them. They probably wont even bother to watch the video footage that Carlson aired.

If you Google Tucker Carlson Jan 6 Video you get something like this.

PMID:  Phytomedicine. 2004 ;11(4):323-6. PMID: 15185845 Abstract Title:  Evaluation of antipyretic potential of Clitoria ternatea L. extract in rats. Abstract:  The methanol extract of Clitoria ternatea L. root (MECTR) blue flowered variety (Family: Fabaceae), was evaluated for its anti-pyretic potential on normal body temperature and yeast-induced pyrexia in albino rats. Yeast suspension (10 ml/kg body wt.) increased rectal temperature after 19 hours of subcutaneous injection. The extract, at doses of 200, 300 and 400 mg/kg body wt., p.o., produced significant reduction in normal body temperature and yeast-provoked elevated temperature in a dose-dependent manner. The effect extended up to 5 hours after the drug administration. The anti-pyretic effect of the extract was comparable to that of paracetamol (150 mg/kg body wt., p.o.), a standard anti-pyretic agent.

PMID:  Microsc Microanal. 2009 Aug ;15(4):366-72. PMID: 19575837 Abstract Title:  Effects of Clitoria ternatea leaf extract on growth and morphogenesis of Aspergillus niger. Abstract:  Clitoria ternatea is known for its antimicrobial activity but the antifungal effects of leaf extract on growth and morphogenesis of Aspergillus niger have not been observed. The extract showed a favorable antifungal activity against A. niger with a minimum inhibition concentration 0.8 mg/mL and minimum fungicidal concentration 1.6 mg/mL, respectively. The leaf extract exhibited considerable antifungal activity against filamentous fungi in a dose-dependent manner with 0.4 mg/mL IC50 value on hyphal growth of A. niger. The main changes observed under scanning electron microscopy after C. ternatea extract treatment were loss of cytoplasm in fungal hyphae and the hyphal wall and its diameter became markedly thinner, distorted, and resulted in cell wall disruption. In addition, conidiophore alterations were also observed when A. niger was treated with C. ternatea leaf extract.

The rescue group believes Flamingo was rinsed with hair dye to turn him pink, prompting some to suggest he was used as a prop for a gender reveal party. Despite the teams best efforts, Flamingo died, likely from inhaling toxic fumes. The strong ingredients in hair dye make it especially hazardous for birds with highly sensitive respiratory systems, and while preening, its possible the poor pigeon also ingested the toxins.

The Big Tech Crash of 2022-2023 is accelerating here in 2023, and yet almost nobody is sounding the alarm as to just how significant the crash is going to affect everyones lives.

PMID: 23419988 Abstract Title:  Chemosensitizing activities of cyclotides from Clitoria ternatea in paclitaxel-resistant lung cancer cells. Abstract:  Cyclotides comprise a family of circular mini-peptides that have been isolated from various plants and have a wide range of bioactivities. Previous studies have demonstrated that cyclotides have antitumor effects and cause cell death by membrane permeabilization. The present study aimed to evaluate the cytotoxicity and chemosensitizing activities of cyclotides from Clitoria ternatea in paclitaxel-resistant lung cancer cells. In this study, a total of seven cyclotides were selected for colorimetric cell viability assay (MTT assay) to evaluate their anticancer and chemosensitizing activities in the lung cancer cell line A549 and its sub-line A549/paclitaxel. Results suggested that certain cyclotides had significant anticancer and chemosensitizing abilities; such cyclotides were capable of causing multi-fold decreases in the half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC(50)) value of cliotides in the presence of paclitaxel. More importantly, their bioactivities were found to be correlated with their net charge status. In conclusion, cyclotides from C. ternatea have potential in chemosensitization application.

Pandemic Treaty Will Usher in Unelected One World Government "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

In the Children's Health Defense video above, aired February 11, 2023, host Dr. Meryl Nass interviews investigative journalist James Corbett about the global biosecurity agenda, the World Health Organization's mishandling of global pandemics, and the two parallel processes currently underway that will effectively create a One World Government of unelected bureaucrats under the guise of global biosecurity. In a nutshell, the WHO is being installed as a de facto governing body for the global Deep State.

Attack No. 1 International Health Regulation Amendments

As reported by Nass, February 6, 2023, the WHO released a report by the director-general on the WHO's review of amendments to the international health regulations (IHR). The IHR, adopted in 2005, is what empowers the WHO to declare a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC).1

This is a special legal category that allows the WHO to initiate certain contracts and procedures, including drug and vaccine contracts. While the IHR already grants the WHO exceptional power over global health policy, under the current rules, member states must voluntarily consent to the WHO's recommendations.

Under the new amendments, however, the WHO would be able to declare a PHEIC in a member state over the objection of that state, and failure to adhere to the WHO's dictates in such a situation could have severe economic consequences.

As a whole, the proposed IHR amendments establish a global biosecurity architecture involving health surveillance, reporting and management and we the public have no say in the matter.

We have no official avenue for providing feedback to the World Health Assembly, even though the amendments will give the WHO unprecedented power to restrict our rights and freedoms in the name of biosecurity. There's not even a publicly available list of who the delegates are or who will vote on the amendments.

All we currently know is that the amendments will be ready for adoption at the World Health Assembly in May 2024.2 A simple majority is required for the amendments to be adopted, after which they'll come into force in 12 months. Member nations that disagree with the amendments have only 10 months to file a rejection or reservation.

Important IHR Amendments

While more than 300 amendments to the IHR have been proposed,3 and there's no telling which will stay and which will be tossed out, certain ones that are currently up for review are more crucial than others. Here are a few of the most egregious:

<p><h2>Ugly Censorship</h2> <p>Its 2023. In the past three years, weve all experienced the creepy, ugly, surreal censorship of the post-COVID kind. True, soft censorship has been around for some time but now its marching proudly, in heavy military boots, and its claiming to exist for our own good. Censorship is here to save our democracy. Yep, thanks, makes sense.</p> <p>First Amendment? Well, yes but the state is outsourcing censorship to private companies, commandeering the process of censorship behind the scenes and pretending to be uninvolved much like a kid whose homework was eaten by the dog.</p> <p>At a time like this, we are also wondering about the elephant in the room the question of how separate have the state and the corporate powers have really been pre-2020? Were they separate? Was it a delusion? We will get to that in a bit but, philosophy aside, the First Amendment is none the less legally binding, so let us first look at the important First Amendment legal case happening right now.</p> <h2>Missouri v. Documentary: High Mowing Organic Seeds for a New Food System "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Editors Note: This article is a reprint. It was originally published January 11, 2020.

Tom Stearns, who has both an entrepreneurial spirit and a desire to get back to the roots of where his food comes from, started saving seeds when he was 18 years old. The drive to connect to the source of his sustenance in the most direct way possible led him to begin exploring how to grow seeds.

Growing food wasnt enough, he said in an episode of Growing a Greener World," a PBS series. I was curious about the growing seeds and saving seeds part of it. Its an aspect of food production that many people overlook, yet its among the most important.

Growing a Greener World creator and host Joe Lamp'l makes a good point in that you can buy a seed or seedling and raise it organically with care, without any pesticides or other chemicals. And you can call it organic but is it really? Not many people think about the seed that starts their plants, but Stearns did deeply.

As he began his hobby of saving seeds, he realized he was saving more than he needed, and some of the varieties werent commercially available. With a desire to share the unique seeds with others, he packaged them up in small envelopes, learned about germination tests to ensure the seeds would grow and sold $2,000 worth of seeds in the first year.

It was from those humble beginnings, 28 varieties planted in his own backyard, that one of the leading seed companies in the United States was born, Lampl said.

High Demand for Organic Seeds

In 1997, Stearns' second year in the organic seed business, he grew 50 varieties and sold $8,000 worth of seeds. The year after that it grew to $18,000 in sales, then $34,000 while still very much a hobby business.

Clearly there was a strong demand for organic seeds from people eager to know where their food, including the seeds, comes from, and by Year Four, Stearns reached a decision point regarding what he saw as a clear demand for high-quality, organic seeds.

The company continued to take off from there, becoming a half-million-dollar company by Year Seven or Eight. And we had just barely gotten out of hobby stage at that point, Stearns said. The companys name, High Mowing Organic Seeds, has roots in northern Vermont, a hilly region that once centered on an agricultural term known as high mowing. The company noted:1

When the early European settlers came to New England, they brought with them their livestock-based agriculture. The practice of mowing hayfields and storing winter feed was well-esta...

However, the protective effect on KET-induced testicular damage has not been reported.OBJECTIVE: To investigate the protective effect of CT flower extracts with antioxidant activity on male reproductive parameters including sperm concentration, serum testosterone level, histopathology of the testis, and testicular tyrosine phosphorylation levels in rats induced with KET.METHODS: The antioxidant activity of CT flower extracts was determined using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) assays. Male rats were treated with CT flower extracts (10, 50, or 100 mg/kg BW) or distilled water via a gastric tube for 28 d (preventive period: Days 1-21) and induced by KET (100 mg/kg BW) via intraperitoneal injection for 7 d (induction period: Days 22-28). After the experiment, all animals were examined for the weights of the testis, epididymis plus vas deferens and seminal vesicle, serum testosterone levels, sperm concentration, histological structures and diameter of testis, and testicular tyrosine phosphorylation levels by immunoblotting.RESULTS: The CT flower extracts had capabilities for DPPH scavenging and high reducing power. At 100 mg/kg BW, the extract had no toxic effects on the male reproductive system. Significantly, in CT+KET groups, CT flower extracts (50 and 100 mg/kg BW) alleviated the reduction of reproductive organ weight parameters, testosterone levels, and sperm concentration. In addition, CT flower extracts gave protection from testicular damage in KET-induced rats. Moreover, in the CT100+KET group, CT flower extracts significantly enhanced the expression of a testicular 50-kDa tyrosine phosphorylated protein compared with that of other groups.CONCLUSIONS: C. ternatea flower extracts possessing antioxidant activity are not harmful to the male reproductive system and can protect against testicular damage in KET-induced rats.

This study supports the traditional use of C. ternatea leaf and root against pain. "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

PMID:  Indian J Pharmacol. 2014 ;46(5):515-20. PMID: 25298581 Abstract Title:  Evaluation of antinociceptive effect of methanolic leaf and root extracts of Clitoria ternatea Linn. in rats. Abstract:  AIM: Clitoria ternatea Linn. (C. ternatea) is an Ayurvedic herb traditionally used as medicine to relieve inflammatory, rheumatism, ear diseases, fever, arthritis, eye ailments, sore throat and body ache. This study aims to evaluate and elucidate the possible mechanism underlying the antinociceptive action of methanolic extracts of C. ternatea leaf and root using several antinociception models.MATERIALS AND METHODS: The different antinociception models such as hot plate, tail-flick and formalin tests were used along with naloxone (a non-selective opioid antagonist) to establish the antinociceptive activity of both leaf and root extracts.RESULTS: Both C. ternatea leaf and root extracts markedly demonstrated antinociceptive action in experimental animals. Results of formalin test showed that the antinociceptive activity of the extracts may be mediated at both central and peripheral level. Moreover, the results of hot plate and tail-flick tests further implies that C. ternatea root extract mediates antinociceptive activity centrally at supraspinal and spinal levels whereas, the C. ternatea leaf extract's antinociceptive activity is mediated centrally at supraspinal level only. It is believed that the opioid receptors are probably involved in antinociceptive activity of both C. ternatea root extract.CONCLUSIONS: Our studies support the traditional use of C. ternatea leaf and root against pain. The extracts can also be utilised as a new source of central analgesics in treatment of pain.

Protection of Clitoria ternatea flower petal extract against free radical-induced hemolysis and oxidative damage in canine erythrocytes. "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

PMID:  Res Vet Sci. 2014 Oct ;97(2):357-63. Epub 2014 Sep 3. PMID: 25241390 Abstract Title:  Protection of Clitoria ternatea flower petal extract against free radical-induced hemolysis and oxidative damage in canine erythrocytes. Abstract:  The present study assessed the antioxidant activity and protective ability of Clitoria ternatea flower petal extract (CTE) against in vitro 2,2'-azobis-2-methyl-propanimidamide dihydrochloride (AAPH)-induced hemolysis and oxidative damage of canine erythrocytes. From the phytochemical analysis, CTE contained phenolic compounds, flavonoids, and anthocyanins. In addition, CTE showed antioxidant activity as measured by oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC) method and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging assay. CTE (400g/ml) remarkably protected erythrocytes against AAPH-induced hemolysis at 4h of incubation. Moreover, CTE (400g/ml) reduced membrane lipid peroxidation and protein carbonyl group formation and prevented the reduction of glutathione concentration in AAPH-induced oxidation of erythrocytes. The AAPH-induced morphological alteration of erythrocytes from a smooth discoid to an echinocytic form was effectively protected by CTE. The present results contribute important insights that CTE may have the potential to act as a natural antioxidant to prevent free radical-induced hemolysis, protein oxidation and lipid peroxidation in erythrocytes.

The results showed that Clitoria ternatea extract has strong antiglycation and antioxidant properties. "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

PMID:  BMC Complement Altern Med. 2015 Feb 18 ;15:27. Epub 2015 Feb 18. PMID: 25887591 Abstract Title:  Inhibitory effect of Clitoria ternatea flower petal extract on fructose-induced protein glycation and oxidation-dependent damages to albumin in vitro. Abstract:  BACKGROUND: The accumulation of advanced glycation end products (AGEs) in body tissue has been implicated in the progression of age-related diseases. Inhibition of AGE formation is the imperative approach for alleviating diabetic complications. Clitoria ternatea extract (CTE) has been demonstrated to possess anti-diabetic activity. However, there is no scientific evidence supporting its anti-glycation activity. The objective of this study was to determine the inhibitory effect of CTE on fructose-induced formation of AGEs and protein oxidation. Antioxidant activity of CTE was also assessed by various methods.METHODS: The aqueous extract of CTE (0.25-1.00 mg/ml) was measured for the content of total phenolic compounds, flavonoid, and anthocyanin by Folin-Ciocalteu assay, AlCl3 colorimetric method, and pH differential method, respectively. The various concentrations of CTE were incubated with BSA and fructose at 37C for 28 days. The formation of fluorescent AGEs, the level of fructosamine, protein carbonyl content, and thiol group were measured. The in vitro antioxidant activity was measured by the 1,1-diphenyl 2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) scavenging activity, trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity (TEAC), ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP), hydroxyl radical scavenging activity (HRSA), superoxide radical scavenging activity (SRSA), and ferrous ion chelating power (FICP).RESULTS: The results demonstrated that the content of total phenolics, flavonoids and total anthocyanins in CTE was 530.34 mg gallic acid equivalents/g dried extract, 11.20.33 mg catechin equivalents/g dried extract, and 1.460.04 mg cyanidin-3-glucoside equivalents/g dried extract, respectively. Moreover, CTE (0.25-1.00 mg/ml) significantly inhibited the formation of AGEs in a concentration-dependent manner. CTE also markedly reduced the levels of fructosamine and the oxidation of protein by decreasing protein carbonyl content and preventing free thiol depletion. In the DPPH radical scavenging activity and SRSA, CTE had the IC50 values of 0.470.01 mg/ml and 0.580.04 mg/ml. Furthermore, the FRAP and TEAC values of CTE were 0.380.01 mmol FeSO4 equivalents/mg dried extract and 0.170.01 mg trolox equivalents/mg dried extract. However, CTE showed weak scavenging activity on hydroxyl radical and a weak antioxidant iron chelator.CONCLUSIONS: The results showed that CTE has strong antiglycation and antioxidant properties and might have therapeutic potentials in the prevention of AGE-mediated diabetic complications.

Protective role of ternatin anthocyanins and quercetin glycosides from butterfly pea blue flower petals against lipopolysaccharide-induced inflammation. "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

PMID:  J Agric Food Chem. 2015 Jul 22 ;63(28):6355-65. Epub 2015 Jul 10. PMID: 26120869 Abstract Title:  Protective Role of Ternatin Anthocyanins and Quercetin Glycosides from Butterfly Pea (Clitoria ternatea Leguminosae) Blue Flower Petals against Lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-Induced Inflammation in Macrophage Cells. Abstract:  Twelve phenolic metabolites (nine ternatin anthocyanins and three glycosylated quercetins) were identified from the blue flowers of Clitoria ternatea by high-performance liquid chromatography diode array detection and electrospray ionization/mass spectrometry (HPLC-DAD-ESI/MS(n)). Three anthocyanins not reported in this species before show fragmentation pattern of the ternatin class. Extracts were fractionated in fractions containing flavonols (F3) and ternatin anthocyanins (F4). In general, C. ternatea polyphenols showed anti-inflammatory properties in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammation in RAW 264.7 macrophage cells with distinct molecular targets. Flavonols (F3) showed strong inhibition of COX-2 activity and partial ROS suppression. On the other hand, the ternatin anthocyanins (F4) inhibited nuclear NF-B translocation, iNOS protein expression, and NO production through a non-ROS suppression mechanism. Accordingly, quercetin glycosides and ternatin anthocyanins from the blue flower petals of C. ternatea may be useful in developing drugs or nutraceuticals for protection against chronic inflammatory diseases by suppressing the excessive production of pro-inflammatory mediators from macrophage cells.

A strategy to employ Clitoria ternatea as a prospective brain drug confronting monoamine oxidase against neurodegenerative diseases and depression. "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

PMID:  Nat Prod Bioprospect. 2015 Dec ;5(6):293-306. Epub 2015 Dec 14. PMID: 26667936 Abstract Title:  A Strategy to Employ Clitoria ternatea as a Prospective Brain Drug Confronting Monoamine Oxidase (MAO) Against Neurodegenerative Diseases and Depression. Abstract:  Ayurveda is a renowned traditional medicine practiced in India from ancient times and Clitoria ternatea is one such prospective medicinal herb incorporated as an essential constituent in a brain tonic called as medhya rasayan for treating neurological disorders. This work emphasises the significance of the plant as a brain drug there by upholding Indian medicine. The phytochemicals from the root extract were extricated using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry assay and molecular docking against the protein Monoamine oxidase was performed with four potential compounds along with four reference compounds of the plant. This persuades the prospect of C. ternatea as a remedy for neurodegenerative diseases and depression. The in silico assay enumerates that a major compound (Z)-9,17-octadecadienal obtained from the chromatogram with a elevated retention time of 32.99 furnished a minimum binding affinity energy value of -6.5 kcal/mol against monoamine oxidase (MAO-A). The interactions with the amino acid residues ALA 68, TYR 60 and TYR 69 were analogous to the reference compound kaempferol-3-monoglucoside with a least score of -13.90/-12.95 kcal/mol against the isoforms (MAO) A and B. This study fortifies the phytocompounds of C. ternatea as MAO-inhibitors and to acquire a pharmaceutical approach in rejuvenating Ayurvedic medicine.

RBA cleverly responds to business-driven inflation by increasing struggling familys mortgage by $150 a month "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

The Reserve Bank has acted decisively on data which shows that excess company profits are largely to blame for inflation, ingeniously upping the monthly mortgage repayments for a family who cant afford it.

When big businesses are pushing up prices and announcing record profits, the best way to respond is to push Julie and Trevor Smith from Werribee to the brink of bankruptcy, Reserve Bank chief Philip Lowe said.

He said his message to businesses was clear. If you gouge your customers by unreasonably increasing prices, then were going to make sure Jenny and John in Woodville South are going to pay the penalty.

Young parents Samantha and George Hallam said they were pleased to be able to do their bit for the economy. When you see the Commonwealth Bank announcing a half-yearly profit of just $5.15 billion, you just want to do what you can to help out.

Immunostimulating and Gram-negative-specific antibacterial cyclotides from the butterfly pea. "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

PMID:  FEBS J. 2016 Jun ;283(11):2067-90. Epub 2016 Apr 20. PMID: 27007913 Abstract Title:  Immunostimulating and Gram-negative-specific antibacterial cyclotides from the butterfly pea (Clitoria ternatea). Abstract:  UNLABELLED: Cyclotides are plant-derived, cyclic miniproteins with three interlocking disulfide bonds that have attracted great interests because of their excellent stability and potential as peptide therapeutics. In this study, we characterize the cyclotides of the medicinal plant Clitoria ternatea (butterfly pea) and investigate their biological activities. Using a combined proteomic and transcriptomic method, we identified 41 novel cyclotide sequences, which we named cliotides, making C. ternatea one of the richest cyclotide-producing plants to date. Selected members of the cationic cliotides display potent antibacterial activity specifically against Gram-negative bacteria with minimal inhibitory concentrations as low as 0.5m. Remarkably, they also possess prominent immunostimulating activity. At a concentration of 1m, cationic cliotides are capable of augmenting the secretion of various cytokines and chemokines in human monocytes at both resting and lipopolysaccharide-stimulated states. Chemokines such as macrophage inflammatory proteins 1and 1, interferon-induced protein 10, interleukin 8 and tumor necrosis factorwere among the most upregulated with up to 129-fold increase in secretion level. These findings suggest cyclotides can serve as potential candidates for novel immunomodulating therapeutics.DATABASE: The protein sequences reported in this paper (cT13-cT21) are available in the UniProt Knowledgebase under the accession numbers C0HJS0, C0HJS1, C0HJS2, C0HJS3, C0HJS4, C0HJS5, C0HJS6, C0HJS7 and C0HJS8, respectively. Katie Shulmans Delicate Dance With Fiber "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Though its origins are somewhat disputed, a popular maxim holds that writing about music is like dancing about architecture which is a sideswipe at music criticism, specifically, but might also be more broadly interpreted to mean that certain expressive media cannot be effectively used to convey a sense of others. In this spirit, it might be argued that it is very difficult to knit about dance, but fiber artist Katie Shulman would likely disagree.

I have a structured process, and I like to use materials like elastic bra strapping that behaves with its own will, Shulman told Hyperallergic during a studio visit, and because I am making such specific decisions, theres an intermediary period that is pretty intuitive. Clitoria ternatea flower petals: Effect on TNFR1 neutralization via downregulation of synovial matrix metalloproteases. "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

PMID:  J Ethnopharmacol. 2018 Jan 10 ;210:209-222. Epub 2017 Aug 19. PMID: 28826781 Abstract Title:  Clitoria ternatea flower petals: Effect on TNFR1 neutralization via downregulation of synovial matrix metalloproteases. Abstract:  ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Clitoria ternatea Linn. (C. ternatea) is a traditionally used herb in arthritis, and its anti-arthritic activity has been attributed to polyphenols (e.g. quercetins) from its flower petal.AIM OF THE STUDY: The present study was designed to investigate whether C. ternatea or quercetin-3-D-glucoside (QG) support the antibody mediated TNF-receptor 1 (TNFR1) neutralization to ameliorate arthritis in mice.MATERIALS AND METHODS: Development of collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) in male Swiss mice (20-22g, 3-4 weeks of age) was followed by estimation of synovial polymorphonuclear cell (PMN) accumulation (in terms of myeloperoxidase activity), synovial and systemic release of cytokines, chemokines and C-reactive protein (CRP) by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), biochemical estimation of synovial free radical generation and antioxidant status, as well as immunoblot assessment of synovial TNFR1, toll-like receptor 2(TLR2), cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2) and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) expression; and zymographic analysis of synovial matrix-metalloprotease-2 (MMP-2) activity.RESULTS: CIA was induced from day 2 post-secondary immunizations as evidenced from arthritic scores and joint swelling in parallel to increased inflammatory and oxidative stress parameters in synovial joints. Long term supplementation with extract from Clitoria ternatea flower petals CTE (50mg/kg) and QG (2.5mg/kg) upto 24 days post booster immunization augmented anti-arthritic potential of TNFR1 neutralization with anti-TNFR1 antibody (10g per mice) in terms of reduced MPO activity, decrease in release of pro-inflammatory cytokines, chemokines, reactive oxygen species (ROS)/ reactive nitrogen species (RNS) production in parallel to significant (p

PMID: 29464849 Abstract Title:  In vitro protective effects of an aqueous extract of Clitoria ternatea L. flower against hydrogen peroxide-induced cytotoxicity and UV-induced mtDNA damage in human keratinocytes. Abstract:  The traditional practice of eating the flowers of Clitoria ternatea L. or drinking their infusion as herbal tea in some of the Asian countries is believed to promote a younger skin complexion and defend against skin aging. This study was conducted to investigate the protective effect of C. ternatea flower water extract (CTW) against hydrogen peroxide-induced cytotoxicity and ultraviolet (UV)-induced mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) damage in human keratinocytes. The protective effect against hydrogen peroxide-induced cytotoxicity was determined by 3-(4, 5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-5-(3-carboxymethoxyphenyl)-2-(4-sulfophenyl)-2H-tetrazolium assay, and mtDNA damage induced by UV was determined by polymerase chain reaction. Preincubation of HaCaT with 100, 250, and 500 g/ml CTW reduced cytotoxicity effects of HOcompared with control (HOalone). CTW also significantly reduced mtDNA damage in UV-exposed HaCaT (p

Acute effect of Clitoria ternatea flower beverage on glycemic response and antioxidant capacity in healthy subjects. "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

PMID:  BMC Complement Altern Med. 2018 Jan 8 ;18(1):6. Epub 2018 Jan 8. PMID: 29310631 Abstract Title:  Acute effect of Clitoria ternatea flower beverage on glycemic response and antioxidant capacity in healthy subjects: a randomized crossover trial. Abstract:  BACKGROUND: Clitoria ternatea L., a natural food-colorant containing anthocyanin, demonstrated antioxidant and antihyperglycemic activity. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of Clitoria ternatea flower extract (CTE) on postprandial plasma glycemia response and antioxidant status in healthy men.METHODS: In a randomized, crossover study, 15 healthy men (ages 22.530.30 years; with body mass index of 21.570.54 kg/m) consumed five beverages: (1) 50 g sucrose in 400 mL water; (2) 1 g CTE in 400 mL of water; (3) 2 g CTE in 400 mL of water; (4) 50 g sucrose and 1 g CTE in 400 mL of water; and (5) 50 g sucrose and 2 g CTE in 400 mL of water. Incremental postprandial plasma glucose, insulin, uric acid, antioxidant capacities and lipid peroxidation were measured during 3 h of administration.RESULTS: After 30 min ingestion, the postprandial plasma glucose and insulin levels were suppressed when consuming sucrose plus 1 g and 2 g CTE. In addition, consumption of CTE alone did not alter plasma glucose and insulin concentration in the fasting state. The significant increase in plasma antioxidant capacity (ferric reducing ability of plasma (FRAP), oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC), trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity (TEAC), and protein thiol) and the decrease in malondialdehyde (MDA) level were observed in the subjects who received 1 g and 2 g CTE. Furthermore, consumption of CTE protected sucrose-induced reduction in ORAC and TEAC and increase in plasma MDA.CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that an acute ingestion of CTE increases plasma antioxidant capacity without hypoglycemia in the fasting state. It also improves postprandial glucose, insulin and antioxidant status when consumed with sucrose.TRIAL REGISTRATION: Thai Clinical Trials Registry: TCTR20170609003 . Registered 09 September 2017.
