Immersive Illustrative Worlds Cloak Desolate Landscapes in Soothing Pastel Hues

Pink City Illustrations by Elora Pautrat

From charming street corners to horizons stacked with rooftops, artist Elora Pautrat creates windows into dreamy, ethereal worlds. Her portfolio of Japanese cityscapes and interiors depicts quiet corners of life where there are no people, allowing viewers to place them directly in a variety of beautiful, pastel-colored places.

Pautrat traces her love for sceneries to growing up in the French alps, which sparked a passion for capturing places over people and characters. When she discovered ukiyo-e, or Japanese woodblock prints, she resonated with its strong interest in portraying specific locales from new and interesting angles. This inspiration can be seen in Pautrat's own work in the way she focuses on unexpected small streets, unassuming little shops, and specific features that come with living in urban environments. These illustrations not only shine a light on these sleepy areas but celebrate their beauty.

In addition to the subject matter, Pautrat's color palette is another important element in her styleusing primarily pinks and blues. A lot of my color palette has its root in color therapy, so there are a lot of pastels, purples, blues. They have a soothing effect on you, Pautrat explains to My Modern Met. What started as very personal illustrations and photography work to help me relax and calm...

Fascinating Video Shows How Forearm Bones Twist To Make Everyday Actions Possible "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Fascinating Video Shows How Forearm Bones Twist To Make Everyday Actions Possible

Compelling Video Shows the Rotation of the Radius in a Forearm When Twisted

Photo: Screenshot from Reddit

The human body is simply amazing. While we might know how many bones we have or how the immune system fights off diseases, it's sometimes hard to grasp without seeing physical examples. A video shared by user ExpertAccident on Reddit showcases one of these mind-boggling actions. The footage features a medical model and demonstrates how the bones of the forearm move; specifically, how the radius rotates over the ulna when we twist our forearm.

The video draws the curtain on this motion, apparently simple and commonplaceyou may have done it a dozen times todayrevealing how the intricate bone structure operates for you to merely twist your arm. Just turning your hand upside down requires your bones to contort, doing so seamlessly and without causing you discomfort. To do so, the ulna (the straight bone on the little finger side of your forearm) stays in the same place while the radius (the curved bone on the thumb side) rotates around it.

The video got a lot of attention on Reddit thanks to the universality of the topic and the startling picture it paints of what happens inside our forearms with even the gentlest of movements. I definitely just did this motion with one arm while holding my phone in the other. Like 10 times, said one user, to which someone replied, And for some reason the bones feel more comfortable crossed right? I can't unfeel it now and it's making me uncomfortable. I'm not the only one right?.

People said they groped their arms trying to perceive the switch, or simply stated that it looked painful. However, not everyone can do this, so it's best to appreciate itno matter how weird it looks. So my bones are stuck' in the...

Luxurious Self-Sufficient Eco Lodge in Africa Is Designed To Give Back "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Luxurious Self-Sufficient Eco Lodge in Africa Is Designed To Give Back

MASK Architects - Baobab Luxury Safari

Italy-based design firm MASK Architects has created a unique eco-safari in Africa that will give back to the surrounding communities. Passionate about the fact that clean water should not be a luxury commodity, MASK Architects has designed modular lodges that produce its water supply using Air to Water technology. Visitors will be welcomed to the luxury resort knowing that their needs, as well as the needs of the local community, are being taken care of.

We envision our concept project to help the local communities in Africa that are remote and secluded from any infrastructure and amenities, MASK Architects shares. With this project, we want to help build infrastructure and community, agriculture, manufacturing, and water sourcing. We want to turn this into an experience where people from all over the world can come on a working holiday, to be able to give back to the community and help the local communities.

The Baobab Luxury Safari Resort is imagined as a self-sufficient community where facilities for agriculture will ensure that the needs of visitors will be met. Each lodge generates water and electricity from a transparent solar device that covers a glass curtain. Any excess produced will then be provided to the local community. Water is produced inside each lodge thanks to technology that extracts and condenses moisture in the air and transforms it into purified drinking water. The aim would be to produce enough water and electricity to be able to provide locals will these necessities.

From a design standpoint, the resort provides a luxurious camping experience. Each lodge is raised and nestled within the trees, providing a bird's eye view of the environment. The exterior structure is crafted from local beechwood to blend with the surroundings. On the lower level, a balcony wraps the conical lodge and acts as a feeding platform to interact with local wildlife. A sundeck located at the top of the lodge provides another perspective of the...

Users can buy and sell high-quality digital artwork on the Smart TV home screen. Also, the platform features LG Art Lab Drops to profile artists and preview new works intending to launch.

For now, the company hasnt said whether the Smart TV will accommodate other wallet apps besides LGs smartphone crypto wallet, Wallypto, which is also used on the Art Lab Marketplace.

Bakkt Streamlines Apex Crypto Platform By Removing 25 Tokens "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

In a recent development, the digital asset firm Bakkt delisted 25 tokens used in decentralized finance transactions from its trading platform, Apex Crypto. Bakkt acquired the platform in 2022 with 36 tokens, now 11 after the overhaul exercise.

According to the firm, its reasons for delisting the tokens was to follow up-to-date regulatory guidance.

25 Tokens Failed Bakkt Coin Listing Review Process

Bakkt performed its normal coin listing reviews, after which it removed 25 tokens from the platform.

A Bakkt representative said the company aims to protect its customers best interests. As such, the review process focuses on how to serve those interests based on the latest industry developments and up-to-date regulatory guidance.

As of press time, the firm hasnt released more details on the action. But the tokens were major ones that facilitated DeFi transactions.

These tokens include Aave (AAVE), Bancor Network Token (BNT), ApeCoin (APE), Basic Attention Token (BAT), Avalanche (AVAX), Cosmos (ATOM), Filecoin (FIL), Curve DAO (CRV), Chainlink (LINK).

Also, Compound Token (COMP), Enjin Coin (ENJ), Chiliz (CHZ), Fantom (FTM), GALA (GALA), Loopring (LRC), The Graph (GRT), Maker DAO (MKR), and Internet Computer (ICP) were delisted.

Other ones include Sushiswap (SUSHI), Uniswap (UNI), Synthetix (SNX), Yearn Finance (YFI), and Texos (XTZ).

This is not the first time Bakkt has made a major decision regarding its customer-oriented services. The firm shut down its retail app that supports crypto trading, gift cards, and loyalty rewards in February 2023.

At that time, the firm disclosed plans to focus on B2B technology solutions stating that it would offer crypto and loyalty rewards to businesses via API and SaaS solutions.

Artist Creates Intricate Metal Armor for Cats and Mice Inspired by World History "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Artist Creates Intricate Metal Armor for Cats and Mice Inspired by World History

Cat armor made from metal inspired by chinese history

Dragon Cat

The rivalry between cats and mice is as old as time. Can you picture seeing historical artifacts related to their feud, just like you would in a museum? A Canadian artist's work gets pretty close to that. Jeff de Boer creates exquisitely detailed metal armor for cats and mice inspired by ancient cultures and historical periods. From samurai felines to Viking rodents, what started as a tiny student project led him to become one of the fewif not the onlyanimal armorer out there.

De Boer traces his love of armor back to over 40 years ago when he was in high school. I have had a lifetime fascination with history, archeology, museums, and of course armor, he tells My Modern Met. When I was a second-year jewelry student at what is now called AUArts in 1986 I realized that I could make a very small suit of armor. The idea of making a human miniature did not seem right to me but making a life-size suit for something like a mouse did!

That's why, contrary to many artists, his inspiration doesn't come from galleries or the work of fellow creators. My inspiration comes more from the world of museums and artifacts, de Boer explains. I think of my work as modern museum-quality artifacts that one day will be at home in either an art gallery or a museum. I hope one day my work will inspire others to want to become artist makers in the same way the work of past artisans inspired me.

His love for the blacksmith craft, as well as history, permeates every piece. Researching historical armor from every culture and time is fascinating for me, the artist says. Sometimes I get inspired by a style and just start working on it and then offer it to the public. Other times a client will make a special request. For example, the Maratha Hussar mouse is a fusion of the styles of both the Maratha Empire from India and the Polish Winged Hussars. This design was for a couple; one from India and the other from Poland. Some of the best ideas are a collaboration between myself and a...

The 2024 Presidential Election Could Make Or Break Bitcoin In The U.S. "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

This is an opinion editorial by Robert Hall, a content creator and small business owner.

The race for the 2024 U.S. presidential election is starting to kick into gear, featuring some of the same cast of characters from the last few elections. On the Democratic side, you have Joe Biden, Robert F. Kennedy and Marianne Williamson suggesting they will run. Then, Former President Donald Trump, Nikki Haley, Ron DeSantis and Vivek Ramaswamy are on the other side of the aisle.

If you have been following the race so far, you might know that Trump seems to be walking away with the nomination before the process even starts next year. If he ends up being the nominee, we will likely get a re-run of 2020, where we have two men over 70 years old who both think that they know what is right for the country. Who else is tired of having baby boomers running the show? I am, to be honest.

Boomer Presidents Dont Understand Bitcoin

Baby boomers, youve had their time in the sun. Its time to leave the stage and let the younger generations of leaders have a chance to lead the country. We need leaders who understand the emerging challenges facing America as we speak.

We need leaders who thoroughly understand economic policy and the value of innovation in the financial space. For instance, the baby boomers at the top of the ticket dont have the depth or the capacity to understand the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that Bitcoin presents to America and the American people.

Biden and Trump have been openly hostile...

PayPal Plunging Despite Increasing Crypto Holdings "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

PayPal share prices are plunging and currently down 80% from 2021 peaks; the largest draw down ever, market data on May 12 shows. PYPL closed the week at $61.69, down 3% from Thursday, March 11.

PayPal Shares Crumbling

Analysts observe that the decline in PayPals stock price has also resulted in a notable shift in its price-to-sales (P/S) ratio.

Previously at a record high of 17x, the P/S ratio is now at a record low of 2.5x.

The P/S ratio is a financial metric, which evaluates a companys valuation, and compares its market capitalization to its total revenue over a specific period, typically a year.

The P/S ratio offers valuable insights into how the market perceives a companys revenue generation relative to its size. The ratio focuses on the rise and fall of the companys revenue.

This ratio also signifies the amount investors are willing to pay for every dollar of the companys revenue.

To put it into perspective, PayPals previous P/S ratio of 17 implies that investors are willing to pay $17 for every $1 of revenue generated by the company. Now, investors are only willing to pay $2.5 for every $1 revenue.

Paypal shares are still at a premium. A P/S ratio above 1 indicates that investors are still willing to pay a premium for the companys revenue.

While the exact reasons behind PayPals downturn are not explicitly stated, speculation suggests that the company is facing a combination of intense competition and outdated technology. PayPal is one of the oldest payment processors.

As the online payment landscape is constantly evolving, it has become increasingly challenging for PayPal to wade off competitors.

For instance, banks have incorporated new systems such as Zelle. Besides, the Federal Reserve is rolling out FedNOW. There are also other avenues for users to use cryptocurrencies or even networks such as XRPL by Ripple Labs.

Some users have even compared PayPals level of innovation to what it was in 1999 when Western Union was its primary competition.

Litecoin (LTC) Records Spike In Active Addresses Following Launch of LTC-20: Santiment "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Popular Bitcoin hard fork and one of the earliest cryptocurrencies, Litecoin (LTC), have recorded some interesting network activity in recent times. According to data from the on-chain analytics platform, Santiment, the number of daily active network addresses on Litecoin has increased by over 400,000 since the start of May.

However, Litecoin has only experienced a slight increase in its transaction volume during the same period, which is unusual considering the significant rise in its daily active addresses. Analyzing this network activity, Santiment released a detailed report on the factors behind such development.

Litecoin

LTC-20 Standard Drives Rise In Litecoin Micro Addresses

According to Santiment, the majority of new active addresses on Litecoin are the most miniature set of wallets on the network holding between 0-0.001 LTC. This explains the little increase in trading volume despite the rising number of daily addresses.

Behind this gain in micro wallets, Santiment postulates the recent introduction of the LTC-20 token standard to be the primary driving force. This is based on chart data which shows that this exciting rise in the 0-0.001 LTC wallets began after the launch of the LTC-20 standard on May 2.

Litecoin

According to its official Gitbook page, LTC-20 is referred to as an experimental standard for non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

While providing an introduction to this blockchain product, the page author stated;

this is an extremely dynamic experiment, and I strongly discourage any financial decisions to be made on the basis of its design. I do, however, encourage the Litecoin community to tinker with standard designs and optimizations until a general...

Former Executive Backs Up Lawsuit Against FTX Celebrity Promoters "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

A former FTX regulatory officer, Daniel Friedberg, has come forward to back the lawsuit against FTX celebrity promoters, adding weight to the allegations leveled against the cryptocurrency exchange.

Due to his knowledge of the companys internal compliance practices, Friedbergs decision to support the legal action is a significant blow to FTX.

Notably, the lawsuit started mid-November last year, a few days after the exchange shut down.

FTX Lawsuit Gains Support From Former Executive

As revealed in the proposed amended complaint, Friedberg gave evidence that FTX promotional activity surfaced from Florida.

Daniel Friedberg was the compliance chief of the US arm of FTX and FTXs chief regulatory officer.

So, his evidence could negate the defendants claims, stating that FTXs activity has no connection with Florida, including the Miami court.

Friedberg also referred to the vice president of the US arm of FTX, Avinash Dabir, noting that he is based in Miami. He added that Dabir performed operations in the city from an FTX office in 2021.

He said that Dabir was responsible for overseeing FTX brand ambassadors, of which the court defendants are no exception.

The brand ambassadors noted were comedian Larry David, Shaquille ONeal, a former basketball player, retired NFL player Tom Brady, and FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried.

Other celebrity promoters include entrepreneur Kevin OLeary, Steph Curry, a basketball star, with his team, the Golden State Warriors, and Bradys ex-wife, model Gisele Bundchen.

Meanwhile, the class action lawyers saw that Friedbergs statements countered the defendants claims.

They claimed its unlikely for such a conspiracy to erupt from Florida because the exchange did not intend to expand to Miami until September last year. It was after the move to Miami that they enacted the promotional agreements.

In the meantime, the lawsuit class action lawyers are assessing the new evidence from the defendants to amend the case.

Crypto Analysts Predict XRP Price Rally Against BTC "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Market analysts are watching Ripples XRP for a potential price surge against the worlds leading digital currency, Bitcoin.

XRP, known for its lightning-fast transaction speed and secure blockchain technology, has recently experienced a rollercoaster ride due to its lawsuit with the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

However, an XRP and BTC chartist, Cryptoes, predicts a trend reversal for XRP based on current indicators on the chart.

Analysts See A Pump In XRP Price Against Bitcoin

The performance of XRP since the beginning of April has been very low compared to that of Bitcoin. This led to a notable decline in the XRP/BTC pair over the last five weeks.

Its poor performance does not affect how certain analysts picture the token. The positive view of XRPs price can be attributed to a key support level at its current position.

Cryptoes called crypto enthusiasts attention to this occurrence in a tweet, revealing that the weekly chart of the XRP/BTC pair projects a major support level. The chart revealed that XRPs price had slowed against Bitcoins since April 3.

However, the support level could prevent further decline of XRP tokens as it might be the bottom point. He added that the token might consolidate for weeks before initiating a rally.

Another popular crypto analyst, Egrag, has a different view from Cryptoes. According to him, the market currently projects a bearish trend.

His reason is hinged on the movements of two Simple Moving Averages (SMA), the 20 and 100 moving averages on the same chart.

According to Egrag, the 20 Simple Moving Averages (SMA) place sell pressure on the coins price. As such, the 100-moving average is a strong resistance against the current price of XRP. It could be difficult for the token to break out from such resistance.

He believes that the presence of these indicators signals market weakness, and XRP could yield to them. But time will tell if XRP will pump to close above the falling wage.

XRPs Recent Price Performance

There is no significant difference between XRPs price at the beginning of May and its current price of $0.4286. On May 1, the coin was trading around the $0.47 price mark, which eventually declined to $0.465 at the close of the day.

OKX Announces New Platform And Partnerships; OKB Shows No Significant Movement "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

OKX Wallet has announced the launch of its new platform, Cryptopedia, and its partnership with protocols, Radiant and Marinade. This announcement would come following wide discussions about the waning influence of Binance, the worlds largest cryptocurrency exchange.

OKX Launches Cryptopedia; Partners With Radiant And Marinade

In a GlobeNewswire press release dated May 13th, 2023, OKX Wallet disclosed the launch of Cryptopedia, a Web3 learn-to-earn and airdrop platform. This new platform aims to help users easily identify and access Web3 projects and dApps. Cryptopedia will also enable users to unlock additional airdrops and gain extra rewards.

The first Cryptopedia issue, which is focused on the zkSync theme, provides users with the opportunity to receive zkSync airdrops and other related airdrops. Users will also have the chance to collect non-fungible tokens jointly created by OKX Wallet and zkSync.

zkSync is a Layer-2 scaling solution designed to enhance transaction speed and reduce cost on the Ethereum network. As the name suggests, this protocol is based on the zero-knowledge (zk) concept.

In the press release, OKX Wallet also announced its partnership with two protocols, namely Radiant and Marinade. Its collaboration with Radiant, a decentralized lending protocol native to Arbitrum and BNB Chain, will allow users to access Radiants lending service via the OKX Wallet plug-in and Discover platform.

With Radiant, users are able to borrow a variety of digital assets across multiple chains against their own assets on one chain.

Marinade, on the other hand, is a non-custodial liquid staking derivatives (LSD) protocol on the Solana network. Similar to Radiant, this partnership will facilitate users access to Marinades liquidity staking service via the OKX Wallet plug-in and Discover platform.

OKB Shows No Significant Price Action

The OKB coin is the utility token of the OKX ecosystem. From trading fee discounts to passive income, there are a few benefits that holders of this token get to enjoy. And it appears that the growth of the OKX ecosystem has some links to OKB price.

That said, it is somewhat too early to tell what the impact of these partnerships will be on the price of OKB. Moreover, there has been no significant price movement in the OKB market since the announcement was made.

A broader look at price action reveals that the OKB market has been moving sideways in the last few weeks. According to data from Co...

The Medicalization of the American Mind "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

In their highly influential, best-selling book, The Coddling of the American Mind: How Good Intentions and Bad Ideas Are Setting Up a Generation for Failure, Greg Lukianoff and Jonathan Haidt identify lies that they claim underlie Americas increasing social and personal dysfunction.  Lukianoff is the president of the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE), which in many ways is replacing the ACLU as a leader in the fight to protect free speech.  Haidt, a professor of social psychology at NYU, is also the best-selling author of The Righteous Mind: Why Good People are Divided by Politics and Religion.

In The Coddling, Lukianoff and Haidt try to identify the causes of the increase in anxiety, suicidality, and general excessive fragility of American college students, especially since 2013.  They conclude that the fragility they identify in iGens (members of the Internet Generation) is due to a number of causes:  Helicopter parenting, a tendency to overreact to risks, and a general philosophy of safetyism.  They show how the various forms of excessive protectionism dont allow children to develop a sense of their own anti-fragility.  But one cause of the problem that they leave out is the effect of pathologizing of our children with psychiatric diagnoses, which in turn leads to the attempt to solve lifes problems by administering psychiatric drugs.

Crypto VCs Dabble In $2.6 Billion Worth Of Deals In Q1 2023 "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Despite the prevailing bearish trend in the crypto market, venture capital firms consummated several deals worth billions in the first quarter of 2023.

Data from PitchBooks Crypto Report for Q1 2023 disclosed that crypto firms generated $2.6 billion through 353 investment rounds.

Though the level of deals from the companies indicated the viability of the crypto space, theres still evidence of its weakness.

Report Highlights Declines In The Number And Value Of Investment Deals

According to the report, the first quarter of 2023 had the lowest amount of capital invested in the crypto space since 2020.

The total deals declined by 12.2% from the last quarter, while the quarter-on-quarter deal value dropped by 11%.

The report highlighted that Q1 2023 marks the fourth consecutive quarter of dipping investment activity for VCs.

Notably, the number and value of VCs deals decreased by 64.4% and 78.0%, respectively, from the same quarter in 2022.

Further, the report indicated a mix in the valuation trends. Seed and late-stage rounds grew by 33.3% and 209.2%, respectively, compared with the full year of 2022. But early-stage rounds plummeted by 16.7% during the same period.

Also, the report noted that the crypto bearish trend could continue. But the space still has some positive outlooks currently.

For instance, layer 2 scaling solutions have been doing great, maintaining their growth from last year.

The data highlighted a blockchain-based firm, Blockstream, that raised $125 million for funding a Bitcoin mining infrastructure.

Also, another company committed to developing zero-knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machine scaling solutions, Scroll, has done well. The firm raised $50 million in a late-stage VC round.

Overall Decline In The Crypto Market

The crypto market has continued to show red charts as prices of most assets witness more losses. Subsequently, the cumulative crypto market cap declined over the past 24 hours. Also, the total crypto market volume plummeted 8.10% within the past 24 hours to $42.75 billion.

The primary crypto asset Bitcoin has been struggling within the past few days. According to data from CoinMarketCap, Bitcoins price has continuously declined for the past week.

The token dropped from the $29,000 region to the $26,000 level. The seven-day price action shows that BTC plummeted by over 9%.

At the time of writing, Bitcoin is trading at $26,759 after losing minor gains over the past 24 hours. Its market cap now sits at $511 billion, with a market dominance of 46.30%.

Polkadot (DOT) Price: The Bear Vs. Bull Battle Continues Wholl Take The Beating? "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Since the beginning of this year, Polkadot has been on a roller coaster ride as the general cryptocurrency market has fluctuated over the past months.

Recently, the price of Polkadot (DOT) has experienced negative sentiment, causing a slight decline in the coins value.

The coins price slightly decreased from $5.51 to $5.12 on May 9, 2023. However, it started to gain further positive momentum the same day and recovered to $5.3 today.

Strong Bearish Momentum

The price of DOT has been trading sideways within the last 24 hours, indicating a bearish trend. As a confirmation of the bearish momentum in the Polkadot market, the 24-hour trading volume is down by 18%.

The decline indicates a decrease in demand for DOT in the market and might lead to greater volatility as traders adjust their position based on the market sentiment.

Polkadots current market cap is estimated at $6.1 billion, with a market dominance of 0.56%. But the increase in selling pressure has impacted the price of Polkadot significantly.

Polkadot is in the phase where investors and traders are afraid to buy or hold the coin. As investors take advantage of the current dip in price to acquire more DOT, anticipate a modest recovery in the coming week.

Polkadot (DOT) Technical Analysis

DOT trades below its 200-day and 50-day Simple Moving Averages (SMA). This indicates that DOT has a bearish momentum in both long-term and short-term trends.

The Relative Strength Index (RSI) indicator shows that DOT currently reads 32.92. This indicates that the coin is slightly in the oversold region. It also suggests that DOT is experiencing some downward pressure. However, the asset may rebound from its oversold condition and return to a normal trading range.

The MACD indicator also confirms the bearish trend as its trading below the signal line. This indicates that the bears have more pressure than the bulls.

Recent Development In Polkadot Ecosystem

Meanwhile, the number one gaming blockchain platform, Mythical Games, is departing from the Ethereum network to launch its new Mythos ecosystem on Polkadot.

The recent development will allow Mythos gaming partners to build the biggest and most connected gaming ecosystem in the Web3 industry.

The development will result in a new scalable platform, accessible to all Mythos partners and compliant with Web2 gaming platforms, including the Epic Games Store.

Bold Goals: Bidens EO Will Have Us Bioengineering Everything "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

In September 2022, President Biden released an Executive Order on Advancing Biotechnology. Then, In March 2023, he released a document entitled Bold Goals for U.S. Biotechnology and Biomanufacturing, outlining specific areas of focus in this bioengineering manifesto.

The goals in these documents sound very nice.  Theyre all about using new technology to fight climate change, increase the food supply, cure diseases, and strengthen national security by increasing domestic manufacturing.

Is that really the goal?

However, I believe that these goals will be used to grab land from existing farmers and ranchers.  Farmers and ranchers need to turn a profit to pay taxes on their land; as actions are taken to achieve these goals all but the largest will be driven out of business.  This will occur via a combination of oppressive regulations in the name of climate change, and lawsuits regarding patent-protected crops.

This probably sounds a little crazy, but the crazy people have been getting a lot right lately.  Lets look at these documents and see what they actually contain.  Then well look at what this actually means for people involved in food production and some of the precedents that have already been set.

Heres whats in the executive order.

The EO promotes bioengineered solutions for everything.  There will be a push to replace petroleum-based plastics with biomanufactured products.  So, for example, developing more plant-based compostable bags, rather than those old plastic ones at the grocery store.

The EO also addresses retaining intellectual rights to everything developed and emphasizes domestic manufacturing.  Supply chain problems have impacted everyone; these documents claim that switching to supposedly environmentally friendly bioengineered products will solve those problems.  This document tries to make promoting biotechnology companies into a national security issue.

What are these Bold Goals?

Tech-Bro at Oakland Punk Show Puts Patches on Patagonia Vest "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

OAKLAND, Calif. Senior Software Engineer Taylor Masters added multiple patches to his Patagonia vest in hopes of blending in at a DIY punk show in The Bottoms neighborhood, confirmed multiple sources who saw Masters drive up in a Tesla.

Ive loved punk rock ever since I went to Warped Tour 2014 and saw Mayday Parade rock so hard that I knew I had to be a part of this lifestyle, said Masters while wiping dust off a fresh pair of Jordans. I know this scene can be pretty exclusive so I bought some distressed jeans that only cost $250 and a bunch of cool patches that I can iron onto my favorite vest. I feel like a member of The Offspring or something right now, I cant wait to hop in the mosh pit and let loose. I just wish people would stop spitting on me when they walked by.

Local punk Gil Carrera was one of the few people in attendance that wasnt completely turned off by Masters being at the show.

If this guy wants to come to this part of town and check out some of the best bands in the area then I welcome him. But also, I bet that dude has a laptop and some cash sitting in that car of his, so as soon as hes not paying attention Im going to help myself, said Carrera. I sort of feel bad for him, he is trying to be social, but he keeps saying What up punker? to anyone that gets close to him. And any time he tries to kill time on his phone someone knocks it out of his hands. But hey, he will be fine.

Tech companies around the Bay Area say they need to constantly warn their employees about blending in with the locals.

A lot of people that work in tech firmly believe they are cool. Which is pretty sad, but this means they end up putting themselves in precarious situations because they have no idea everyone fucking hates them, said Salesforce HR rep Max Insley. I have a list of tech-friendly tattoo studios that wont charge our employees $40k for a sleeve and hide a bunch of dick and balls in the tattoo. We even paid off management at most dive bars in the area to not beat the shit out of our employees who want to experience the grit of the city after a long day of coding.

Masters was last seen approaching a group of men under a broken streetlight who he mistakenly thought were holding an impromptu rap battle.

Every Weezer Album Ranked "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Weezer has 15 albums that we know of. Theyre not all going to be winners. We learned this the hard way when we decided to rank the CVS receipt that is their discography. Not everyone may agree with the final results but hopefully, it helps a few poor souls understand the tortured geniuses behind Africa. Heres our definitive ranking of every Weezer album, from the ones we cannot defend to the ones we genuinely love.

Honorable Mentions: SZNZ (2022)

These dont count as Weezer albums, and we are eternally grateful for that. Still, its important to acknowledge that they exist so listeners understand just how much content Weezer churns out. Rivers Cuomo made an EP for each of the four seasons and still plans to make more Weezer albums soon. He recorded Christmas With Weezer and yet he felt the need to record another wintery release with SZNZ: Winter over a decade later. Ride or die Weezer fans are brave as hell for committing to such a long and inconsistent ride.

15. The Black Album (2019)

As the proverbial Yin to the excellent White Albums Yang, we shouldve known this would suck long before the first single dropped. Maybe it wouldve been better if Weezer delayed the album to improve it instead of using their extra time to go on side quests like Africa and that tour with The Pixies. Its almost poetic how these 10 mediocre tracks balance out the bands better work.

Skip It: Piece of Cake

Guy Cant Believe Loser Roommates Are Also Home on a Saturday Night "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

NEW YORK Local man Roland Peachneck was reportedly shocked and disappointed that his loser roommates had nothing better to do on a Saturday night than hang around in the apartment they share, according to neighbors and recipients of frustrated texts.

Youre telling me these guys couldnt find anything better to do on a Saturday night in the greatest city in the world than sitting at home playing video games, Peachneck said while microwaving a bowl of ramen to eat by himself in his room. Its pathetic. At least I had plans that fell through. Well, they didnt really fall through as much as I never heard back from any of the Tinder matches I asked out. Its more sad than anything. These guys probably look up to me. I just wish theyd take a cue from me and get out of the house once in a while. I havent been able to watch SNL in the common room in like three weeks.

Peachnecks roommates weighed in on their mischaracterization as social pariahs.

Im not sure what the guys deal is, said Lee Harrison, a successful Twitch streamer with no regular Monday-through-Friday work schedule. Every time he goes to the kitchen for Sour Patch Kids he pauses to shake his head and say, You guys are some real party animals. I overheard one of his nightly FaceTimes with his mom where he was complaining that his roommates have no life, but I dont think Ive ever been home alone here. He is for sure the reason why my fiance wont come over when shes in town for one of her modeling gigs.

Social psychiatrist Sydney Copeland has spent years researching this behavior in humans and animals.

Familiarity breeds contempt, at home and in the wild, Copeland said. We are always the heroes of our own story, and often we dont realize how big of losers we all actually are. If the primate world has taught me anything, its that no one is immune to main character syndrome, even if all youre doing is flinging feces. I advise everyone to go take a good long look in the mirror before passing judgment, then go find yourself a hobby that gets you out of the house for once in your sad life.

At press time, Peachneck had surprised his roommates by heading for the front door, only to return immediately with his GrubHub order.

Top 10 Sigur Rs Diss Tracks "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Scandinavian post-rock band Sigur Rs have been wowing crowds for decades, but due to their quirky decision to sing in a made-up nonsense language called Icelandic, fans have failed to decipher the meaning of their songs.

Until now. Using cutting-edge AI technology and also some drugs, The Hard Times has painstakingly translated their entire oeuvre. If you were expecting deep metaphors comparing bleak volcanic landscapes to the majesty of the human soul, think again turns out most of their songs are just petty exercises in score-settling, shit-stirring and straight-up bitchiness.

Here are 10 of their nastiest diss tracks.

Hjarta Hamast (bamm bamm bamm)

The late 90s saw Sigur Rs engaged in a violent turf war with nearby band Mm. Cars and guns were not readily available to them, but our translation of Hjarta Hamast details Sigur Rss innovative alternative to the traditional drive-by shooting:

Mm, you come at us on your Slow Bicycles

We hit you with a sail-by codding

Bamm bamm bamm

Three cod in your skull

Three cod up your ass

We should reach your domicile by Tuesday evening (if the winds are kind to us)

Fljtavk

One of the loveliest, most intimate songs in their catalog so we were shocked to discover the cocksure braggadocio of its lyrics, which appear to be castigating a cheating ex-boyfriend:

Look at me now, Gumundur

Latterly, I have irrepressible peen

It cannot be legislated for

There were plenty more fish in the sea

And now Im like a trawler in the motherfucking Freyjadjup

Peeeeeeen ( x 16 )

tk betra a eiga peningana mna (Bitch Better Have My Money)

This early Sigur Rs B-side lay in obscurity until die-hard fans still insist the original is superior, pointing in particular to this verse that was cut from Rihannas version:

Bitch better have my money!

Pay me what you owe me

If you steal my bowed-guitar technique

There Are At Least A Few Cool Things About Being A Grown Up "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

It can seem as if childhood is where its at (or at least, young adulthood). You have no real responsibilities, you get to focus on growing and enjoying life, you dont have to worry about money, and theres always someone there to hug and snuggle you if you need it.

That said, there are some good things about being grown up and on your own, too at least, these people think theyve thought of a few.

Not everything goes away.

People Share Their Stories Where They Met Some Legitimately Dangerous Folks "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

If someone asked me this question, Im not sure I would have a good answer. Everyones definition of dangerous is probably a little bit different, and maybe different things could seem dangerous to different people, too.

These folks think there are some pretty dangerous people in their lives, according to their definitions, so gird your loins and take a look.

Scary smart.

My father. A wife-beating criminal, cocaine addict, full of steroids and anger issues. He showed up at my little sisters house last January and threatened her for money.

But the dangerous part is that hes scary smart. Gotta give credit where credit is due, that guy is not stupid and thats what makes him all the more dangerous.

Theres very few people Im genuinely afraid of, but hes one of them.

Youve gotta look out for yourself.

My mom has totaled around 5 cars. Shes a terrible driver, shouldnt even be on the road.

If shes driving Ill say Ill take my car and meet you there.

May he rot.

Former high school classmate who became a cop and started a pedophilia ring, eventually crossing multiple state lines and trading services for video game systems, all while abusing neighborhood children.

May he rot in the federal penitentiary that currently houses his nasty a$$.

What in the world.

My dad eats mushrooms from his backyard, and hoses out his toaster and hangs it by the cord on the washing line to dry.

You cant judge.

How to End the Autism Epidemic "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Editor's Note: This article is a reprint. It was originally published September 16, 2018.

In this interview, J.B. Handley, founder of Generation Rescue, discusses autism and what he believes can be done to help turn this tragic trend around. This is also the topic of his book, "How to End the Autism Epidemic."

A Parent's Worst Nightmare

Handley's son has autism, and his personal experience ultimately motivated him to write this book. He describes the family's experience, and what led them to take a nonconventional approach to their son's treatment:

"My wife and I were what I would characterize as very mainstream parents, which meant that when our second son was born in 2002, we basically handed him to our pediatrician and did whatever he told us to do, which meant following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) recommended [vaccine] schedule.

We started to watch our son decline physically after every vaccine appointment at 2 months, at 4 months, at 6 months and at 12 months. He got eczema. His belly became distended. He had sleep disturbances. He had dark circles under his eyes. We kept going back into the doctor and saying, 'What's going on? What's happening with him? Where is this coming from?'

We could never get a plausible explanation for what was happening. Then, shortly after my son turned 1 year old, he started to decline neurologically. He lost his words. He lost many of his normal mannerisms. He started doing these really unusual behaviors.

He started craving certain foods all these things that somebody like you knows are red flags for a child heading towards autism. But at the time, we were ignorant to this and our pediatrician didn't help us at all.

We were living in Northern California. We took our son to University of California San Francisco (UCSF) where they diagnosed him with severe autism. At the same time, we visited a Defeat Autism Now! (DAN!) doctor in Pleasanton Dr. Lynne Mielke.

We were presented with two completely different worlds. At UCSF, autism was genetic. It was lifelong. He was likely to be institutionalized. There was nothing we could do about it, except to prepare ourselves.

But in Pleasanton, thirty miles away, autism was triggered by vaccines. It was an environmental illness. If you vetted the diet and started to do things differently, some of these children recovered completely. Here's...

Does Peppermint Oil Work for Irritable Bowel Syndrome? "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

The International Foundation for Gastrointestinal Disorders1 estimates up to 10% of the population worldwide has irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Yet, as Dr. Michael Greger notes in this short video, a 2005 study2 revealed that 76.6% of people in the U.S. with IBS are undiagnosed. This means the number of people with IBS is likely much higher.

It is important to know that ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease are different types of inflammatory bowel disease. While the terms inflammatory bowel disease and irritable bowel syndrome are sometimes used interchangeably, they are separate conditions that require different treatments. Crohns disease and ulcerative colitis are forms of inflammatory bowel disease but not IBS.

IBS is a chronic condition that changes your bowel habits and may trigger pain, cramping, changes in consistency and frequency of bowel movements and bloating.3 As Greger notes4 from a paper5 published in the Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology, doctors underestimate the impact of IBS on quality of life.

When measured, health-related quality of life was worse in people with IBS than in those with gastroesophageal reflux disease, diabetes and end-stage renal disease. So, the first step toward successful treatment is for doctors to acknowledge the condition and not dismiss the patient as just hysterical or something, says Greger.6

IBS: Unmet Therapeutic Need

While many people do not voluntarily discuss their bowel habits with their physician, Greger notes that another reason people may not seek medical treatment is the lack of effective options from Western medicine physicians. There is no cure for IBS. The only pharmaceutical options available are drugs that reduce the symptoms.

Yet, as Greger notes,7 drugs that are typically used to treat IBS have significant side effects. Antispasmodic drugs can lead to dizziness, confusion, blurred vision, an increased risk of falling and dry mouth. Other medications on the market used to treat IBS include:8

Consolidating Control "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

The recent U.S. banking crisis is no longer making headlines but its about to enter an even more troubling phase, according to finance guru Catherine Austin Fitts publisher of The Solari Report.1

In an interview with Whitney Webb, host of Unlimited Hangout, Fitts discusses how central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) will consolidate control of the financial system ultimately leading to control of the world population. Webb says:2

Essentially, it seems that the current calm on the surface has allowed the powers that be, or rather the financial powers that be, to kick the can down the road, giving them time to line things up so they can control and manage the situation once chaos and panic return.

Yet, regardless of if, and when, another crisis rears its head, the aftermath is likely to be seen as an opportunity by the powers that be to roll out or dramatically advance the long-awaited central bank digital currency, or CBDC paradigm.

A Dangerous Push to Consolidate Banking Deposits

When Silicon Valley Bank (SVB), the 16th largest in the U.S.,3 collapsed in March 2023, Fitts believes it was due to a predatory run, a takedown. It really did look like a combination of short sellers and an engineered run, she says. Normally, one of the functions of the central bank is to help a bank in that position. But what we saw, in fact, was lead banks in New York Fed that own and control the New York Fed, engineering the run.4

This highlights the risks inherent even in large banks, where the majority of the problems lie, Fitts says. Yet, the corporate media pushes the idea that you must put all your money with the major banks to keep it safe. That is very dangerous, Fitts says.5

There is a real push to consolidate the banking deposits We saw the pand...

Researchers Have Found A Way To Regrow Teeth "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

The need for artificial teeth may become obsolete in the future due to the discovery of an antibody that triggers the regrowth of missing teeth. This antibody works by blocking the function of a gene known as USAG-1, thereby enhancing the presence of specific growth factors. This could, in time, offer people the opportunity to naturally regrow a brand new set of gleaming teeth.

In a study published in Science Advances, a group of scientists explain their successful experiment of inducing tooth growth in genetically modified mice. These mice were engineered to exhibit tooth agenesis, a condition where some teeth fail to develop. However, when pregnant mice from this lineage were injected with the USAG-1 antibody, their offspring demonstrated normal tooth development. Remarkably, a single dose of the antibody even prompted the growth of an entirely new tooth in regular mice.

The researchers decided to focus on the USAG-1 gene as it is known to suppress two signaling molecules, BMP and Wnt, which are crucial to tooth development. However, these molecules also regulate the growth of numerous other organs, hence any interference might lead to serious side effects.

During the research, the team examined a range of monoclonal antibodies that modify the interaction between USAG-1, BMP, and Wnt. Some of these caused severe birth defects, but they eventually identified a specific antibody that blocked the genes association with BMP without affecting Wnt.

This discovery enabled them to trigger tooth growth without any adverse side effects. The researchers concluded that USAG-1 impedes tooth growth by binding to BMP and reducing its activity.

Study author Katsu Takahashi said in a statement, We knew that suppressing USAG-1 benefits tooth growth. What we didnt know was whether it would be sufficient. The teams findings suggest that inhibiting the genes activity allows for a sufficient increase in BMP to stimulate new teeths growth.

While this method is far from being ready for human trials, the scientists did test the antibody on ferrets, which have dental patterns similar to humans. They are also diphyodont, meaning they have a set of milk teeth that are later replaced by adult teeth.

The results showed that the treatment was equally effective in ferrets, with a single injection of the antibody leading to the generation of a whole new tooth. This implies that the method could potentially work in humans, though safety concerns must be addressed before such tests can occur. For the time being, the researchers aim to replicate the experiment on other mammals, such as pigs and dogs.

The research team is optimistic that their groundbreaking work with the USAG-1 antibody could lay the foundation for future dental treatments, particularly for those suffering from tooth loss due to age or disea...

U.S. Senators Introduce Bill Requiring Reports On El Salvadors Bitcoin Adoption "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

A group of United States senators have introduced a bill requiring reports on the adoption of bitcoin as legal tender in El Salvador.

The "Accountability for Cryptocurrency in El Salvador Act," introduced by Senator James Risch, Senator Bob Menendez, and Senator Bill Cassidy, requires the Secretary of State, in coordination with other relevant Federal departments and agencies, to submit a report on the adoption of bitcoin as legal tender in El Salvador. The report must include an assessment of the regulatory framework in El Salvador and the potential impact of Bitcoin adoption on macroeconomic stability, democratic governance, and the flow of remittances from the United States to El Salvador.

The bill also calls for a plan to mitigate any potential risks to the United States financial system posed by the adoption of a cryptocurrency as legal tender in El Salvador and any other country that uses the U.S. dollar as legal tender. According to the bill, the plan should be submitted to the appropriate committees of Congress no later than 90 days after the report required by subsection (a).

The Bitcoin Law, passed by the Salvadoran government in June 2021, gives Bitcoin legal tender status in the country. The move was criticized by some experts, who argued that it could lead to instability in the country's economy. Others, however, saw the move as a potential catalyst for broader adoption of bitcoin in the region. Despite the controversy surrounding the move, El Salvador has remained committed to its Bitcoin adoption plans.

Ginsenoside Rh2 exhibits antiproliferative activity against non-small cell lung cancer cells. "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

PMID:  Cancer Med. 2023 Apr 20. Epub 2023 Apr 20. PMID: 37081781 Abstract Title:  Ginsenoside Rh2 attenuates the progression of non-small cell lung cancer by sponging miR-28-5p/STK4 axis and inactivating Wnt/-catenin signaling. Abstract:  BACKGROUND: Ginsenoside Rh2 (G-Rh2) exerts anti-tumor activity in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). microRNAs (miRNAs, miRs) play pivotal roles in NSCLC. We aimed to investigate whether G-Rh2 inhibited NSCLC progression by targeting miRNA.METHODS: Cell viability, apoptosis and cycle were determined by Cell Counting Kit-8, 6-diamidino-2-phenylindole (DAPI) staining and flow cytometry. The potential target miRNAs of G-Rh2 were screened by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR). The difference in miR-28-5p expression between lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) tissues and normal tissues or lung squamous cell carcinoma (LUSC) tissues and normal tissues was retrieved from TCGA-LUAD and TCGA-LUSC, respectively. Kaplan-Meier Plotter was conducted to analyze the survival rate for different serine/threonine-protein kinase 4 (STK4) expressions with different prognostic risks. immunohistochemistry of STK4 expression in non-tumor and tumor tissues was analyzed from the HPA database. RT-qPCR and Western blot were adopted for detecting mRNA and protein expression. TargetScan V7.2, miRanda and PITA were adopted for predicting targets of miR-28-5p, overlapped genes were subjected to GO analysis. The interactions of miR-28-5p-Wnt and miR-28-5p-STK4 were detected by TOP/FOP luciferase reporter assay and dual luciferase reporter assay, respectively.RESULTS: Current study observed that G-Rh2 reduced miR-28-5p expression in NSCLC cells dose-dependently. miR-28-5p was upregulated in NSCLC tissues and cells. The target genes of miR-28-5p were enriched in negative regulation of Wnt signaling. miR-28-5p inhibitor inactivated Wnt signaling, inhibited cell viability and cell cycle, while enhanced cell apoptosis of NSCLC cells by targeting STK4. G-Rh2 exerted the similar effects with miR-28-5p inhibitor by reducing miR-28-5p. G-Rh2 and miR-28-5p inhibitor exerted a synergistic effect on inhibiting NSCLC tumor growth.CONCLUSION: In conclusion, G-Rh2 attenuates NSCLC development by affecting miR-28-5p/STK4 axis and inactivating Wnt signaling. Taken together, we project out a novel therapeutic target for NSCLC.

Statins increase the risk of diabetes by 38% Study Shows "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

As reported by a 2020 US Department of Health and Human Services study, in 2018, 34.1 million American adults were living with diagnosed or undiagnosed diabetes. Men and non-Hispanic white individuals represented the majority of these diabetes cases.

Just two years later, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the number of adults living with diabetes, both diagnosed and undiagnosed, increased to 37.3 million. Moreover, 96 million people aged 18 and above are prediabetic, which translates to 38% of the American adult population.

This data suggests that diabetes has reached epidemic levels in the United States. A study published in the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology noted that adults using statin drugs to regulate cholesterol levels demonstrated a heightened risk of developing insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes compared to the general population. However, no concrete evidence has been found linking high cholesterol levels to cardiovascular disease risk.

As discussed in previous articles, three factors significantly affect the risk of cardiovascular disease, often being interconnected. These factors are insulin resistance, chronic inflammation, and elevated iron levels. Regrettably, conventional medicine practitioners tend to overlook these contributing factors in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease.

Statins, or cholesterol-lowering medications, are the primary treatment strategy in Western medicine and are often deemed the most cost-effective drug. Dr. Malcolm Kendrick, a general practitioner in Cheshire, England, and author of three books, including Statin Nation: Damaging Millions in a Brave New Post-Health World, estimates that the pharmaceutical industry has made over a trillion dollars from statins.

Statins Elevate Diabetes Risk by 38%

A study published in the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology by a team from the Erasmus University Medical Center in the Netherlands demonstrated a correlation between statin use and diabetes. The study focused on blood sugar traits related to type 2 diabetes.
The Rotterdam study included 9,535 non-diabetic participants. Over 15 years, they discovered that statin users had higher fasting serum insulin concentrations and insulin resistance than non-users.

This resulted in a 38% increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes. The researchers concluded that statin users could face an increased risk of developing hyperglycemia, insulin resistance, and consequently, type 2 diabetes. Preventive strategies such as maintaining blood glucose levels and weight loss upon initiating statin therapy could help reduce diabetes risk.

The specific mechanism by which statins trigger type 2 diabetes remains unidentified and may not be linked to obesity. Scientists have identified a condition called metabolic obesity with normal weight (MONW), a subset of the population that develops insulin se...

Gemini Season Horoscopes May-June 2023 "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Gemini Season runs from May 21st until June 21st. Gemini is represented by the twins. One twin is mortal, the other immortal, representing both body and soul. The mortal twin is our reminder that life is temporary and that we are here for a physical experience, whereas the immortal twin reminds us that our soul is forever and we are spiritual beings by nature.

Gemini is also connected to the element of air and the planet Mercury, so during the Season, energy tends to be concentrated in our minds. Our thoughts can be more powerful but also more consuming. We may find ourselves having brainwaves, moments of clarity, or even ah-ha moments. Just the same, we can find ourselves fixated, overthinking, or being too self-critical.

Gemini is also a very social energy, encouraging us to get out and mix with others, communicate, and share our story. We may even feel guided to put pen to paper or start that podcast.

Some key events for Gemini Season 2023, include the Aldebaran Gateway from May 28-29, the Sagittarius Full Moon on June 3rd, Venus move into Leo on June 5-6th, Plutos return into Capricorn on June 11th, the Gemini New Moon on June 17th, and Saturn Retrograde on June 17th.

Lets dive deeper into what this means for you and your zodiac sign with your Gemini Season Horoscopes (you can read for both your Sun and Rising Sign).

Horoscopes for Gemini Season May June 2023

New York Art Advisor Hit With $2M Lawsuit "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Lisa Schiff (photo by Stefanie Keenan/Getty Images)

A lawsuit filed yesterday, May 11 accuses the New York art advisor Lisa Schiff of embezzlement, with three of her clients alleging that the consultant and her company Schiff Fine Arts (SFA) failed to fully compensate them for the $2.5M sale of an artwork. The plaintiffs, Richard Grossman and real-estate heiress Candace Barasch, claim that Schiff had guaranteed to pay out their profits from the joint sale of an Adrian Ghenie painting in installments earlier this year, but failed to hold up her end of the agreement after requesting an extension. Barasch, Grossman, and his spouse are seeking over $2M in damages after Schiff admitted she didnt have the...

The results revealed the antifungal activity of oregano. "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

PMID:  Microbiol Spectr. 2023 Mar 27 ;11(2):e0512422. Epub 2023 Mar 27. PMID: 36971589 Abstract Title:  Effect of Vapor-Phase Oregano Essential Oil on ResistantSpecies Biofilms: Mechanisms of Action. Abstract:  Vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC) is one of the most prevalent vaginal infectious diseases. The increasing incidence of drug-resistantstrains and the limited therapeutic options make the discovery of effective alternative therapies fundamental. Essential oils (EOs) have been suggested as a promising alternative, and interestingly, vapor-phase essential oils (VP-EOs) present more advantages than their direct application. Thus, this study aims to evaluate the effect of oregano VP-EO (VP-OEO) on biofilms of antifungal-resistant vaginal isolates of dspecies (Candida albicans and Candida glabrata) and determine its mode of action. CFU, membrane integrity, and metabolic activity were evaluated. Furthermore, a reconstituted vaginal epithelium was used to mimic vaginal conditions and evaluate the effect of VP-OEO onspecies infection, analyzed by DNA quantification, microscopy, and lactate dehydrogenase activity. The results revealed high VP-OEO antifungal activity. There was a significant reduction (>4 log CFU) inspecies biofilms. Furthermore, the results show that the mechanisms of action of VP-OEO are related to membrane integrity and metabolic activity. The epithelium model confirms the effectiveness of VP-OEO. This study suggests that VP-EO can be considered a first approach for the development of an alternative form of VVC treatment. This work presents a new approach to the application of essential oils, exposure to the vapor phase, which can be considered a first approach for the development of a complementary or alternative form of vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC) treatment. VVC is a significant infection caused byspecies and remains a common disease that affects millions of women every year. The great difficulty in treating VVC and the extremely limited effective therapeutic options make the development of alternative treatments crucial. In this scope, this study aims to contribute to the development of effective, inexpensive, and nontoxic strategies for the prevention and treatment of this infectious disease, based on natural products. Moreover, this new approach has several advantages for women, such as lower costs, easy access, an easier mode of application, avoidance of skin contact, and, therefore, fewer negative impacts on women's health.

What Kim Kardashian Taught Me About Art Fairs "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

At the Independent Art Fair in Tribeca, Manhattan this week, I found myself standing in front of a large painting of the ubiquitous American media personality Kim Kardashian.

Slightly impressionistic, artist Ruby Dicksons oil painting (a diptych) appears to be based on a paparazzi photo of the famous model, captured in black leggings, silver-dyed hair, and a baseball cap that conceals her eyes. Next to it, there was another painting by Dickson evoking a dramatic scene from the TV series Sex in the City in which the main protagonist, Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), tumbles and falls into a body of water during another breathtaking encounter with her then-elusive lover,...

Alternative Building to Address Homelessness "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

The four houses shown above are completely different in size and style, but they are all environmentally friendly, cheap, and fast to construct because they are made with earthbags. The four earthbag dwellings above are, clockwise from top left, in Veracruz, Mexico, Capetown, South Africa, Ahwaz, Iran and Durban, South Africa.

Many countries with urgent housing needs are constructing low-cost houses using a range of alternative building materials, such as bamboo, plant fiber board, synthetic concrete, papercrete, rammed earth, old shipping containers, rubber tires, reclaimed timber and glass and plastic containers.

The home below is made of used plastic bottles and other recycled waste. This is one of many innovations of Earthship Biotecture, based in New Mexico, USA. These dwellings feature solar and wind power for heating, cooling and other energy needs plus self-contained sewage treatment.

Australians are now facing the challenge of alternative housing with more urgency than has been shown in the past because of high rates of homelessness. Last month, the Australian Bureau of Statistics reported that 122,500 Australians were homeless on Census night in August 2021. That was 480 for every 100,000 in the population. The remote Indigenous communities are where alternative housing solutions will be most strategic.

On any given day, there are millions of people across the world who are battling cancer. According to the World Cancer Research Fund International, there were 18.1 million cancer cases recorded in 2020. Though it is a battle faced by many, it is nonetheless a scary, painful, and tiring experience for patients and their families. Going through rounds of chemo, is yet another struggle in the quest for health. It is physically and mentally draining. One common side effect of this treatment that can take a toll on one's self-esteem is hair loss. This can be particularly hard for women, as many consider their hair not only part of their image, but a key part of their femininity as well. That's why any show of support can mean the world for someone in this situation. In Brazil, a woman named Claudia had to say goodbye to her hair, so she paid a visit to her son's barber shop to get her head buzzed by experienced and loving hands. As she faced that challenging moment, she came across an unlikely and heartwarming display of solidarity.

Claudia had been diagnosed with laryngeal cancer a few years ago, and she recently had to resume treatment. When she decided to have her head buzzed, she knew it was best to have it done by her son, Guilherme Magalhaes. As a barber at the Barbearia Entre Amigos shop in the Brazilian municipality of Presidente Epitcio, Magalhes has been giving buzzcuts to countless people for five...

The best natural remedies for acid reflux "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Americans shell out an astonishing $13 billion annually on over-the-counter and prescription proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), the most prevalent anti-reflux drugs on the market. 1

These PPIs, including prescription drugs like Nexium, Prevacid, and Prilosec, curb acid production and are employed in the treatment of acid reflux or gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), which affects nearly 20% of the US population.

Even though these medications are designed for short-term use, doctors often prescribe them for extended periods.

If you frequently suffer from heartburn or acid reflux, its important to note that studies indicate that making dietary modifications can be more effective in managing acid reflux than medication.
By consuming unprocessed food and repopulating your gut microbiome with good bacteria, either through traditionally fermented foods or a superior quality probiotic supplement, you can recalibrate your digestive system and potentially eliminate the need for PPIs and other drugs. Moreover, there are several natural remedies available that can help manage this condition.

The use of Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs) has been linked with serious health problems

PPIs inhibit the bodys proton pump that produces hydrochloric acid, which is crucial for breaking down proteins in the gut. Lowering acid levels can affect nutrient absorption and increase the risk of dysbiosis, an imbalance in the gut microbiome.

Studies have shown that the use of PPIs and H2 blockers can increase the risk of intestinal infections. This is because these medications suppress the production of stomach acid, which is essential for warding off infections. The symptoms of these bacterial infections include diarrhea, severe abdominal cramps, and vomiting, which can lead to serious and life-threatening conditions.

Furthermore, research has associated PPIs with dementia. It has been observed that people over 75 who regularly consume PPIs have a 44% increased risk of dementia. PPIs are believed to increase the production of beta-amyloid plaques in the brain while decreasing the bodys ability to clear them.

Long-term use of PPIs has also been linked to heart attacks and other serious conditions like chronic kidney disease, increased risk of death, heart disease, bone fractures, and vitamin B12 deficiency. Its important to consult with your doctor if you have been taking them for a long period and are concerned about these potential risks.

Understanding reflux

Reflux happens when stomach contents flow back into the esophagus, leading to irritation of the esophageal lining due to stomach acid. This condition is also known as:

  • acid indigestion
  • acid regurgitation
  • Heartburn

If you experience symptoms of acid reflux more than twice a week, you likely have reflux disease, or GERD, which comes with bloating, heartburn, and digestive...

The strike started the day after the previous contract expired, when talks about pay and streaming residuals, among other issues, fell apart. The effect of the strike was immediately felt, as late-night talk shows began showing repeats, and the MTV Movie & TV Awards canceled the live portion of its show after host Drew Barrymore and other presenters backed out in solidarity.

Strikes in Hollywood aren't uncommon, and this is the eighth WGA strike since the 1950s. The last one, which started in late 2007, lasted 100 days and guaranteed that writers would have a stake in revenue when their content hit the internet. The rapid change in how we consume media is also at the heart of this strike, as streaming residuals have been a major sticking point.

The strike has made headlines around the country and has even made its way into the classroom. As shared by film and tv writer Tyler Ruggieri, one sixth-grade class in Los Angeles has learned all about the strike and wanted to send their support.

Former Censorship Czar Sues For Disinformation "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Censorship is running wild in the United States. Former Ministry of Truth Disinformation Governance Board Czar is suing Fox News over disinformation.

Nina Jankowicz blamed destructive media lies for the downfall of her aptly named Ministry of Truth. The ruling class was calling it the Disinformation Governance Board. The agency would have been the draconian disseminator of all truth and responsible for silencing, banning, or punishing those who refuse to believe the official narrative.

The Disinformation Governance Board was created by the Department of Homeland Security to monitor the flow of alleged misinformation from foreign states and transnational criminal organizations. While officials insisted the agency would have no authority to censor Americans or track their speech, the creation of the board triggered a public backlash, with critics accurately comparing it to the Ministry of Truth in George Orwells 1984.

In a complaint filed earlier this week, Jankowicz accused Fox News of creating a fabricated, bullying narrative about her in more than 300 TV segments last year, including claims that she intended to censor Americans speech in her role at the disinformation board, which was quickly shut down after it was established in 2022.

Ministry of Truth Trends on Twitter After Government Unveils New Disinformation Governance Board

Foxs coverage of Jankowicz was neither news nor political commentary; it was cheap, easy entertainment untethered from the facts, designed to make consumers believe that Jankowicz could and would suppress their speech, the lawsuit said according to a report by RT.   Jankowicz went on to claim that the disinformation project was terminated by the White House as a result of Foxs false statements and the ensuing harassment, which she said continued even after her resignation from the board last May. This harassment included threats of violence, the suit alleged, also claiming that threatening and harassing messages and social media posts are usually linked to Foxs coverage of Jankowicz.

The barrage of threats and harassment constitute an actual threat to Jankowiczs and her familys safety, causing severe and foreseeable distress, the lawsuit added.

Not to worry, the ruling class has already come up with another solution. Its launching another Ministry of Truth.

Iranians Forced to Remove Hijab-Free Photos from Graves "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

With many Iranians pushing back against the mandatory hijab laws implemented by the Islamic Republic, it seems the Islamic Republic will continue pushing women to wear hijabs, even after their death.

The Iranian government forced a family in Kermanshah, west of Iran, to remove the picture of their deceased daughter from her tombstone because she was not wearing a hijab.

The municipal government of Kermanshah said the family signed a letter of commitment, promising that they would not put pictures of their daughter without a hijab, but unfortunately, this family did not comply with the regulations and must replace it as soon as possible.

The warning was in accordance with an intensified move to enforce the Islamic Republics dress code more strictly in all public and private life aspects, including cemeteries. Last year, Iran started implementing this measure in the Behesht-e Zahra cemetery, the countrys largest cemetery near the capital Tehran.

The cemetery removed hundreds of gravestones that had pictures showing women without hijabs. Saeed Ghazanfari, the cemetery director, said the procedure would continue in the future "in accordance with the opinion of [religious] scholars until all tombstones showing hijab-less pictures are removed.

Beard Ban Backlash: Muslim Security Guard Sues US State Department "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

A lawsuit was filed against the State Department of the US government for discriminating against a guard when he was allegedly forced to shave his beard to keep his job at the agency.

The case was filed on May 3rd by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) on behalf of security guard Devin Brooks against the US State Department and State Secretary Anthony Blinken. The suit stated that the agency denied permission to maintain a beard longer than inch, as required by Brooks Islamic faith.

Brooks also reported that he was shocked when the US State Department informed him that his fist-length beard violated the agencys policy on facial hair since a third-party recruiter told him that the job would let him keep his beard.

According to the lawsuit, Brooks was removed from active duty before being placed on administrative and unpaid leave. CAIR claimed that their refusal to give religious accommodation violates Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, prohibiting discrimination on employment based on religion.

The lawsuit asks for payment for economic and emotional damages incurred by the incident and other fees.

Nobody should be forced to choose between their faith and their job, Hannah Mullen, a staff attorney for CAIR, said in a press release. The Department of State could have easily accommodated Mr. Brooks. Bureaucracy and a lack of respect for religion are not defenses to Title VII and RFRA.

The US State Department did not provide any comment on the pending litigation. However, in a letter dated April 18 last year quoting the lawsuit, a representative from the agency said the State Department couldnt accommodate Brookss request to keep his beard due to safety concerns.

We have these policies on beard length in place to protect the guards and to ensure that if engaged in a physical conf...

By Imprinting an Ornate Rug in Snow, Javier de Riba Draws Attention to Flora and Fauna Living in the Pyrenees "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

The snowy Pyrenees landscape imprinted with an ornate motif

Catalan artist Javier de Riba (previously) once again collapses the boundaries between public and private, this time by adding a cozy intervention to a frigid environment. Canal Roya imprints a swath of fresh snow with the artists signature ornate motifs to mimic a rug-like covering on the frozen landscape.

Completed in early April, de Riba created the work near the proposed location of an 8-kilometer cable car connecting ski resorts in Astn and Formigal. The project, which drew criticism for its enormous price tag and disastrous environmental effects, would likely have displaced many of the animals, plants, and other organisms that inhabit that region in the Pyrenees. Thanks to pushback from activists, though, construction has since been halted.

Report Finds UK's Forced Marriage Unit Overly Targets Muslims "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

A sweeping new report by the UK governments faith adviser has been published, making it the most comprehensive review of the relationship between the British government and the countrys many religious organizations in more than a generation.

The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, headed by Secretary Michael Gove, unveiled the new report. Colin Bloom, the former head of the Conservative Christian Fellowship who serves as the current faith adviser of the Conservative government, drafted the review.

Michael Gove became controversial last 2022 when he dropped plans to officially define Islamophobia despite mounting pressure for the government to act on hate crimes against Muslims, along with scandals unwrapping Islamophobia in the Conservative Party.

Commissioned by then-Prime Minister Boris Johnson in 2019, the 165-page report emphasized various issues and areas where government officials became ineffective, partly because they were too cautious about tackling problems that emerged from religious communities.

Some of the issues highlighted by Blooms report include forced marriages, which had become a problem across many religious communities. However, the report slammed the government agency set up to tackle this concern.

Bloom described the governments forced marriage unit as under-resourced and p...

Shocking Violence: 6 Dead, 25 Churches Burned in India "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

New violence against two ethnic groups sparked in the northeastern Indian state of Manipur, reportedly killing 54 people, displacing 23,000 more, and burning at least 25 churches, reigniting tensions that terrorized the state for decades.

Thousands of soldiers have been sent to Manipur to quell the unrest, which emerged from a protest by the Kuki tribal group in the Churachandpur district against plans to designate the more dominant Meitei tribe as a scheduled tribe.

Aside from sending military units to the state, the army said it significantly enhanced its surveillance of areas affected by the violence by deploying helicopters and drones. Authorities also imposed an Internet blackout throughout Manipur, enforced a curfew in nine of the 16 districts, and issued shoot-at-sight orders in extreme cases to stamp out unrest in the region.

N. Biren Singh, Manipurs chief minister, said the conflict arose due to a prevailing misunderstanding between two communities and added that the government pledged to protect the lives and property of all our people.

What I Learned as a Moderator for an Antidepressant Taper Support Group "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

I was a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) for 28 years. For 18 of those years, I was an LCSW in a psychiatric hospital that had both inpatient and outpatient units. All patients were on psychiatric medications, and most were on multiple drugs, i.e., antidepressants, benzodiazepines, and/or antipsychotic meds. I never heard about withdrawal syndromes or the need to taper off the medications. Side effects were treated not by taking a person off the drug, but by prescribing more medications to treat the side effects.

My education about psychiatric medications and withdrawal began when I tried to go off the antidepressant Cymbalta. I had developed chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) while working in the psychiatric hospital, and a psychiatrist I worked with said Cymbalta was a good drug for CFS. I did not have pain or depression, but I started taking Cymbalta based on his recommendation. I had taken antidepressants in the past but had not been on an antidepressant for a few years when I began to take Cymbalta.

I had taken Prozac, Effexor, Zoloft, and Wellbutrin for mild depression. They all made me hypomanic initially and a psychiatrist diagnosed me with bipolar disorder. It wasnt until years later that another psychiatrist casually said, You had medication-induced mania. By then, I had figured out it was induced by the medication, but when I first received the diagnosis I felt stunned and wounded and for a few years identified as a bipolar patient. In retrospect, there were times I was quite hypomanic and it was very lucky I did not lose my job, or have my child taken from me. I made decisions I never would have made had I not been influenced by the antidepressants and in an altered state of mind.
