I know that most people would superficially agree on the importance of education, but to be honest, that is often just lip service. So, lets break down why Bitcoin education matters so much and why we need to not only agree that its important, but to take action.

Bitcoin Is A Tool

Bitcoin is money, yes, of course. But thats just scratching the surface. Bitcoin is also a tool that, when used correctly, empowers the individual. It gives us agency in our own lives which encourages decentralization and personal responsibility. All of those things will echo far beyond money, they will change the very relationship we have with the concept of power.

Every previous revolution has been focused on which group wields power Bitcoin can help us change the relationship we have with power itself. Its hard to overstate the magnitude of this potential.

But realizing that potential is not a certainty. And the best way to predict the future is to create it.

Education is the first step in bringing new people into the space and thus, it will have a significant impact on the path they continue down. Thats why it must be pure. The profound potential of Bitcoin is that it allows individuals to make their own choices, so to begin that journey by telling students what to think is not just counter-productive, its counter-revolutionary.

Community-led, independent, impartial Bitcoin education is an idea whose time has come. This is a revolution, the first steps that new people take must maintain the core ethos of Bitcoin.

Proof Of Work Is What Matters

But how? How do we turn that theory into reality? Talk is cheap, proof of work is what matters.

My First Bitcoin is working on how to implement this style of Bitcoin education in El Salvador and beyond, and we are learning some lessons quickly.

These efforts have to be led by the community. That means that when we enter a new area, we identify the best students with the potential to be teachers and we train them to do just that and to keep teaching long after we leave. Local context matters too, and the people who understand that best are the ones who have deep roots.

I (41f) am married to my husband (42m) and we have two kids: our son (11m) who we will call Zach, and daughter (9f) who we will call Lizzie (not their real names for privacy reasons).

Lizzie LOVES the video game Minecraft, and has played it nearly every day since we bought it for her on Xbox for her 8th birthday. She is a super artsy kid and loves to create extravagant buildings and structures in Minecraft, and she has shown me her amazing creations many times.

Two days ago, she was playing downstairs and Zach asked if he could play with her. Lizzie didnt let him play even though we have two Xbox controllers, and Zach was very angry for not letting her play. I dont know why Lizzie didnt let him play, I was in the kitchen upstairs.

Yesterday, when my husband and I were still sleeping, Lizzie started screaming and crying downstairs. She always wakes up early to play. Her world with all of her creations is gone, and she told us between sobs that she cant get it back, and she thinks that Zach deleted it last night.

When Zach woke up, I asked him if he deleted Lizzies world, and he started laughing and said that she should have let him play with her. I was livid. Lizzie loves that game so much and her creations were beautiful, and now theyre gone forever, not to mention that she is devastated that the world she has spent over a year on is gone forever.

And indeed, all kinds of weaponry have been flowing into Ukraine.  It is truly a testing ground.

So, this begs the question, is anything else getting tested there?  The Ukrainian government seems pretty willing to use its own citizens as guinea pigs, and the American government seems pretty willing to foot the bill.  Are American tax dollars going to any other interesting projects?

Heres what the US is funding in Ukraine.

Yes, actually.  Volodymyr Zelensky became president of Ukraine in May 2019, and almost immediately he introduced his idea of a country in a smartphone.

In early September 2019, Ukraine launched its Ministry of Digital Transformation, headed by a World Economic Forum participant, Mykhailo Fedorov  According to Federov, the goal of this new government department was to streamline government services, making it easier to apply for drivers licenses, passports, and so on.  Ukraine has long held the reputation as Europes most corrupt country, and young politicians like Federov want to take advantage of new technology to make changes.

So, in early February 2020, the Ukrainian government launched its Diia app for smartphones.  Developed by volunteers from EPAM Systems, Diaa has been touted as a way to streamline government services.  By 2021 it had allowed Ukraine to become the first European nation to accord digital passports and one of the first to issue digital drivers licenses.  Federov reported in 2021 that about one-fourth of the Ukrainian population was using it, and it was gaining in popularity.  As of January 2023, about half the adult Ukrainian population was using it.

There is a positive side to streamlining government services.  Diia has allowed Ukrainians to easily start new businesses, making all the required government paperwork easily available.  I can see this being helpful for young entrepreneurs.

However, negative consequences became readily apparent, too.

Within a year of its launch, millions of Ukrainians found that their personal data, such as drivers licenses, social media information, and banking informat.....

While the federal governments proactive approach to minimizing damage was appreciated, many pointed out that taxpayers would ultimately suffer the depositors bailout.

With all the terrible things going on in the world, sometimes you need to laugh to keep yourself from crying. Everyone is so cynical about life and I dont blame them! Black humor has helped us push through some bleak moments in our lives, new ones which seem to be occurring on the daily. This is why Im surprised that my killer set of dead baby jokes at the office is being rewarded with a meeting with HR.

I figured it was safe to assume that dead baby jokes were grandfathered into the resurgence of early 2000s nostalgia like low-rise jeans and iCarly. But I guess some people who were born in the actual year of 2003 arent hip to the dark humor that permeated the early aughts.

Give me a break, my generation watched 9/11 happen.

If anything, I started a dialog. And that dialog apparently made its way over to HR where Im sure theyll make me explain whats so funny about it and all that bullshit. But if I have to explain to them how many babies it takes to paint a house its not funny anymore!

Dont get me wrong, Im not in the mindset that people are too sensitive these days but we need to discuss where the line is drawn. I have literally seen TikTok videos making light of dead spouses and family members getting tens, sometimes thousands, of likes. But should you posit a scenario about fitting 50 babies into a bucket by way of a blender, you get uninvited from the office happy hour. And these babies arent even real! Whos the real asshole here?

Im like 99% sure people were laughing! Hell, Carol in accounting was practically laughing so hard she was crying. Seriously, she cried for a long time, all the way into the bathroom for 20 minutes. Holy hell that was a good joke. Im sure shell vouch for me.

The recent introduction of the decentralized social media protocol Nostr took the distributed technology world by storm. Even Block CEO Jack Dorsey has espoused his fondness for the protocol, encouraging its usage, funding development and using it himself exceedingly often. In the meantime, Zion, a decentralized social media app, has watched as Nostr grew. I asked Justin Rezvani, CEO and founder of Zion, about whether the two are in competition. But he clarified that Zion and himself sees its benefits, and confirmed that he believes Zion will be closely intertwined with Nostr going forward.

As far as Nostr goes, Zion is an application and Nostr is a protocol, so we dont view it as competitive, but complimentary, Rezvani explained. Zion will likely use Nostr in the future. What were building centers around innovations in messaging, ID and payments. Zion is the first app for this technology. What weve built on decentralized identity (DID) and decentralized web nodes (DWNs) are complementary to what Nostr is doing and I am very excited to see how adding Nostr will increase the impact of the user experience for creators on Zion. Thats part of our goal and what guides us, a better experience for creators.

One aspect of the decentralized content rolodex that Nostr is missing is data storage, Rezvani believes, but he says that Zion addresses this well: The idea that you will post a video and Nostr relays across the world will just store that content for free is nonsense. You need a reliable data storage mechanism and I believe the combination of DID, DWNS and Nostr could be an incredible combination.

In addition to this, is the idea of empowering content creators so that they can monetize themselves directly. Zion was actually one of the first to seize this opportunity, beating Nostr, which has recently witnessed an explosion in micropayment activity.

I have recently lost a lot of weight. Ive been fat since childhood. Growing up fat was hard.

Youre the brunt of jokes, mean and snide comments, any little pain you have at the doctors must be because of your weight. Youre not allowed to complain about being too hot in the summer. Your food choices are scrutinised to death: eat a salad, well done!!!! Its so healthy!!!!

I stopped efforts for intentional weight loss and started moving my body because I enjoyed it and it alleviated my depressive episodes.
