The links between pollution and miscarriage: 'This is the stuff nightmares are made of' "IndyWatch Feed Allaunews"
The world we live in is slowly poisoning every single one of us. And the chemicals doing the most damage are byproducts of the fossil fuel industry, agribusiness and manufacturing. There doesn't seem to be the appetite at a regulatory or governmental level to stop it. In Australia, 50,000 agricultural, industrial and veterinary chemicals are being used; 1,500 are suspected to interfere with endocrine function, which is essential to the healthy working of our reproductive and hormonal systems. Only a very small number have been tested. Microplastics, which can cause inflammation in the body, is being found in our blood streams and also in the placentas of unborn fetuses. Walking down a major intersection during rush hour can expose you to as much particulate matter as a major bushfire event. Even if chemicals are tested, the testing regimen means that chemicals are only being tested in isolation and not in conjunction with others to see how compounds react. Also, they might be tested for carcinogenic effects ... but the test subjects aren't monitored for other ill-effects, such as endocrine disruption. Some effects take place long after the research has concluded. Some of these chemicals can stay in the body forever. Or affect the way our DNA functions. Theres even an Australian website (not widely enough publicised) called yourfertility.org.au. It has an entire section on chemicals in our environment and what to avoid, stating that avoiding these chemicals may increase the chance of having a baby.

Life-Enhancing Anxiety: Key to a Revitalized World "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"
I know it seems counter-intuitive, but close observation suggests that what many of us need now is not less anxiety, but more, at least of a certain kind. I call this kind of anxiety life-enhancing. Life-enhancing anxiety fosters cross-cultural bridge building, creative enrichment, and social engagement. It can also bolster spiritual well-being. Formally, I define life-enhancing anxiety as that which helps us to live with and make the best of the depth and mystery of existence. Less formally, I define it as our capacity to thrive on the edge of discovery, wonder.
The existential psychologist Rollo May wrote that freedom and anxiety are two sides of the coin. There is never one without the other, and my studiesas well as personal experienceconfirm this assertion. Anxiety is basically fear of the unknown, and fear of the unknown can be disabling and paralyzing, as many who live with anxiety disorders today can attest, but it can also be invigorating and potentially liberating. Many people, for example, are terrified to try out new ideas, relationships, encounters with people or places foreign to them, but on the opposite side of the spectrum, people who have learned to live with and make the best of their anxiety tend to take more (calculated) risks, seek novel experiences, and thus live more adventurous lives.
I learned this personally following the traumatic loss of my seven-year-old brother when I was two and a half. This shattering event led to a pivotal round of therapy with a child psychoanalyst when I was six years old, and it was a turning point in my life. I was terrified of death and dying, and I had great battles with anxiety and depressionmy father feared I was losing touch with reality; but this approximately year-long therapy helped me very gradually move from a position of debilitating withdrawal from life to one of emboldening curiosity and even wonder about life. It helped me shift from a pla...

They are able to submit their work to four categoriesbirth details, labor, delivery, and postpartum. And, for the first time, the photo competition also includes four subcategoriesblack & white, documentary, fine art, and hardship & loss.
The winning imagery captures the full range of childbirth, from water births to cesarean sections to the incredible moment when a child takes its first breath. But, at the same time, the competition also acknowledges that giving birth does not always mean taking a child home. The new hardship & loss subcategory is a reminder that still-born and miscarried babies also need to be honored and that through photography, families who experience loss will always be able to carry their children with them.

Nevada Battles Candida Auris With Highest Case Counts In The U.S. "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"
The state of Nevada is fighting a superbug fungal infection called Candida auris. Nevada has the highest case count of the fungal infection in the United States.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced that Nevada has the highest number of cases in the United States of the fungal strain resistant to medications. The mainstream media is calling the fungus potentially lethal while noting that it is resistant to common antibiotics and anti-fungal medications, and can be a major risk for hospital and nursing home patients.
About 90% of C. auris isolates have been resistant to fluconazole, about 30% have been resistant to amphotericin B, and less than 5% have been resistant to echinocandins. These proportions may include multiple isolates from the same individuals and may change as more isolates are tested, according to the CDC.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention tracked and found that in 2022, Nevada had 16%, or 384 of the countrys 2,377 clinical cases of the superbug called Candida auris followed by California with 359 cases, Florida with 349 cases and New York with 326. -CBS News
Candida auris, often called C. auris, is a form of yeast that is usually not harmful to healthy people, but it can be a deadly risk to fragile hospital and nursing home patients. It spreads easily and can infect wounds, ears, and the bloodstream. Some strains are so-called superbugs which means they are resistant to all three classes of antibiotic drugs used to treat fungal infections.
This could be another excuse to expand the slave system and get people in control too. A CDC epidemiologist actually said it too:
The rapid rise and geographic spread of cases is concerning and emphasizes the need for continued surveillance, expanded lab capacity, quicker diagnostic tests, and adherence to proven infection prevention and control, said CDC epidemiologist Dr. Meghan Lyman, lead author of the report released by the CDC. We know they are really tracking an...

Peer-To-Peer Bitcoin Exchange Paxful Suspends Marketplace "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"
The exchange cites staff departures and regulatory challenges for the suspension, saying theyre not sure if it will come back.
Paxful, one of the worlds largest peer-to-peer (P2P) cryptocurrency exchanges by volume, has announced the suspension of its marketplace. The announcement was made by the company's founder and CEO, Ray Youssef, who cited key staff departures and regulatory challenges for the industry as the reasons behind the decision. In a statement, Youssef said, "While we work through these issues, we have taken the most secure option and ask you to explore self-custody and trade elsewhere."
According to Youssef, all customer funds are accounted for, and the Paxful Wallet will be up for customers to retrieve their funds. To facilitate the process, Paxful is recommending options such as Exodus Wallet and Muun Wallet for customers to self-custody their funds. The company is also offering an easy migration to other options for non-U.S. users, including Noones, a new P2P company dedicated to the Global South, and Bitnob, which makes it easy for Africans to connect with Bitcoin.
Youssef personally vouches for Noones, which offers lower trading fees, a cheaper wallet, a more generous affiliate program than Paxful's program, a more efficient KYC process, local dispute moderators, and a friendlier TOS policy with no accounts being locked.
The news of Paxful's suspension comes amid growing regulatory scrutiny of the cryptocurrency industry, particularly in the U.S. Paxful's move highlights the challenges facing the industry and the importance of self-custody for investors. It also underscores the need for more secure and reliable P2P cryptocurrency exchanges that can withstand regulatory pressures and ensure the safety of customers' funds.
Were past COVID. Thats the good news. "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"
COVID was a once-in-a-lifetime jolt to the world. Millions died, many millions more got sick some with long-term implications, and economies globally came to a near screeching halt.
Those who had been living on the economic edge were joined by millions more who had to close their business or were laid off, and all of them needed help. The food bank network was stressed to a near breaking point, and thousands of food pantries temporarily or permanently closed as their elderly volunteers didnt want to risk their health.
Additionally, the entire food system was severely shaken leaving grocery stores struggling to keep food (and yes even toilet paper) available. The entire country expressed deep appreciation to healthcare workers as well as all other essential workers including those working in grocery stores.
The USDA helped by increasing SNAP benefits by 15% and boosting the maximum benefit many households could get. Indeed, very low-income families saw their monthly benefits go up by at least $95 to help assure that there would be food on the table.
That was the good news at a time when good news was in short supply.
The bad news was that Congress had directed the USDA to reverse many of these enhanced benefits when the government (state or federal) declared that the pandemic was over. And that time has come.
Many people who lost jobs or businesses have returned to employment, but others, including those with long COVID, still struggle. Inflation has hit the shopping list at the very time when SNAP benefits are being reduced.
Americas gardeners can step in and help.
This is the time of year when most gardeners are already in the garden or are itching to get into it depending upon where in the country they live. Many gardeners, space providing, have the opportunity to expand their garden at little or no cost to themselves, many choosing to deliberately grow more than they can use, explicitly for donation. You may want to think about doing that.
If you are like me and start some plants from seed, you almost never used all that come in the packet, meaning you can grow more without spending a penny more. And if, like me, you also use seedlings (I love Bonnie Plants), you can buy a few extra to help nourish your community when you harvest more than you can use, regardless if that surplus was accidental or intentional. Furthermore, the super healthy garden fresh food you donate goes a long way towards helping to improve the quality and nutritional strength of food getting to your community.
Families still needing help to feed themselves deeply appreciate the donations as do the food pantries.
The good news is that the pandemic is over.
The not-so-good news is that millions more will again struggle to feed themselves.
The lasting good news is that the solution to hunger is in your backyard.

College Professor Offers to Take Care of Doctoral Students Kid After She Couldnt Find a Babysitter "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"
The availability and access to childcare can make or break a situation. From having a night out to tending to an emergency, having someone to look after a kid is indispensable. When Traniece Brown-Warrens, a doctoral candidate at Baylor University, couldn't find someone to take care of her foster baby while she went to class, she found an unlikely babysitter in her classmates, and even her professor.
Brown-Warrens works as principal at Markham Elementary School in Portland, Oregon, but once a month, she attends weekend classes at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. When you have a dream, you figure out how to make it work, Brown-Warrens told Today.
Since becoming a foster mom to a 7-month-old child she has nicknamed Baby Bear in mid-February, she has been able to keep up with her work schedule by placing the baby in childcare during the work week. However, she wasn't able to find someone to take care of the infant for the weekend of March 18. Running out of options, she sent an email to her professors, proposing to either attend classes virtually, or taker her baby with her to class. They said, Feel free to bring him,' Brown-Warrens recalled.
The foster mom then flew out to Texas with Baby Bear, who not only melted the hearts of everyone in the room, but behaved very well during the lectures. He was very inquisitive and didnt cry, Brown-Warrens said. He wanted to be in my arms while I took notes and engaged. I multitasked, like most parents do. Later, at a class titled School Business Management and Finance, other students offered to take turns holding the baby. Then, the lecturer himself asked to be part of the fun. Don't forget about me. May I hold him? professor Bobby Ott told Brown-Warrens, and carried the baby for about 30 minutes.
The intent look on Baby Bears face lets you know you enjoyed Dr. Otts lesson on taxes and account codes. Thank you for holding him so I could take notes & work with my partner, she then wrote in a tweet featuring the pictures of the baby in the lecturer's arms.
Ott then shared...

3D Maps Visualize the Stark Population Density Differences in Cities in the U.S. "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"
We can read about the population of a state, but it can be hard to visualize what its density looks like. Data technologist Spencer Schien is demystifying a selection of U.S. states with his fascinating population density maps. In each of his three-dimensional visualizations, he uses publicly available data and R programming language to chart the areas where people live.
What this looks like, in practice, are bold maps that have the more densely populated areas represented by bars resembling skyscrapers. The more people there are, the higher these sites get, making them reminiscent of a topographical map. For some states, the difference between rural population areas and urban centers looks extreme, such as in the case of Chicago, Illinois. The lower population sectors are light blue while there are so many people in the Windy City that the bars transition from an orange to a bright yellow.
Schien was inspired to make these maps as part of the #30DayMapChallenge in November 2021. The theme for day 21 was the Kontur Population Dataset, he explains to My Modern Met. The specific style was inspired by maps created with Aerialod (3D rendering software), and I was also driven to create comparable maps with my open-source software of choice, the R program language.
His aesthetic was further inspired by the internet at large. I also have long drawn inspiration from the Twitter user @researchremora, Schien explains, who started making beautiful shaded relief elevations maps a while ago (they're an anonymous account).
As of now, Schien has created several state maps, city maps, and comparative maps, as well as some maps of regional areas like neighboring towns alo...

Vivid Photographs by Cari Letelier Follow the Aurora Borealis Across Icelands Night Sky "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"
During the last couple days in February, a series of impressive solar storms sent the aurora borealis as far as California and Western Australia. The lights were particularly brilliant in northern places like Scotland and Iceland where the long winter nights provide ample darkness as a backdrop to the waving illuminations. Chile-based photographer Cari Letelier took advantage of Icelands position just a few degrees south of the Arctic Circle to capture vibrant images of the auroras as they traversed the skies above waterfalls, icy expanses, and the Arctic Henge.
The northern lights result from enormous solar events in which the sun emits energized particles that slam into Earths upper atmosphere at speeds of up to 45 million miles per hour. Earths protective magnetic field redirects the particles toward the poles in a process that produces spectacular light shows. Letelier had been to Iceland once in 2019, but didnt have much luck finding the phenomena, sharing that when she reached the Arctic Henge, it was so cloudy and snowing, I told myself, I have to come back and catch this place with the aurora.'
This time, when she and a fellow photographer learned that there would be a solar flare that was likely to produce a spectacle, they made the seven-hour journey from the southern part of the island in search of sightings and captured some incredible images. I had to make a decision whether to take the photo or to enjoy the show making mental captures, s...

Should Amnesty Be Granted to Those Who Were A-OK with the Other Vaccines Being Mandated? "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"
This article was originally published by Davis Taylor at The Ron Paul Institute for Peace and Prosperity.
That article about amnestythe one so many found infuriatingfired me up too, but for a different reason than most. The hypocrisy of the mass, indignant reaction to it was almost too much for me to bear.
A contingent has formed of the newly outragedthose who held blind faith in the safe, necessary, and effective slogan without ever having done any research on vaccines, who are now reeling because they just learned some facts about one.
However, most of the newly outraged have only advanced slightly in their thinking, to now believing there is one highly flawed vaccine being pushed on the public. And theyre outraged that any of those who once favored it being mandated would now seek forgiveness on the grounds of lack of information. They point to ample information available throughout the BS-demic which made it obvious that the official story about COVID-19, and about COVID-19 jabs, was mostly bunk.
Wellpot, kettle, black. Pre-COVID-19, many of the newly outraged supported childhood vaccine mandates or, at the very least, sat idly by without voicing any opposition to them, despite the information being available of serious problems with childhood vaccines.
The truth is, at various times nearly all of us failed to do our due diligence before forming opinions about vaccines, including this author many years ago. Almost all of us could use redemption on that front.
One taking the time to look will find that COVID-19 vaccines are not a one-off. Rather, they share most of the same problems as the vaccines that came before them. Below, is a stroll through just some of the information which demonstrates this, most of which has been there all along and overlooked by the newly outraged.
1. The safety testing of childhood vaccines has also been reckless.
The recent addition of COVID-19 vaccines to the CDCs childhood schedule increased the schedule from 54 injections (72 antigens) to 72 injections (90 antigens). Its pure mythology that the vaccines on the schedule prior to this recent addition underwent rigorous safety testing.
In fact, in one regard, the childhood va...

Bitcoin And The Banking Crisis: Can Decentralization Counter The Traditional Economys Failures? "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"
As financial institutions too big to fail mindset erodes, can Bitcoins pioneering decentralization save our wealth?
This is an opinion editorial by Nikolay Denisenko, co-founder and CTO of Brighty, a Swiss crypto and fiat banking app
For years, the global centralized banking and finance industry has maintained a too big to fail sentiment. Big-name banks and financial institutions still share a confounded ideology that they are too large and interconnected to national economies to fail and, should a financial failure happen, they would be bailed out by governments and regulators.
The recent U.S. banking crisis is no different. Once again, a large corporate bank failed to balance its deposits and investments, leading the government to step in and inject enough cash flow to allow all consumers to retain their deposits.
Economic crises and recessions lead to government bailouts often through the taxpayers money. To me, this is a clear indication that the legacy, centralized financial system is failing, as an elite handful of bankers gatekeeps the global economy, overreacting and mismatching their financial operations without taking any actual liabilities.
So, whats the solution? As weve seen repeatedly, the only winner to come out of a banking crisis so far is decentralized finance: or, more specifically, Bitcoin.
We often think of bitcoin only as an investment tool, like stocks and shares. But Bitcoin is the essence of decentralized finance: a limited, supply-capped currency built on a transparent peer-to-peer network that is beyond the control of any centralized entity or individual.
In fact, the leading cryptocurrency was created for incidents like a banking crisis. The development of Bitcoin came against the backdrop of the Great Financial Crisis of 2008 when the cost of U.S. banking bailouts has been estimated to reach $498 billion. At the time, there was a clear sentiment among hardworking people that both the government and centralized financial systems were working against them. This sentiment was the driver for Bitcions innovation: the very first block of the network even had a code inscription including...

These Whimsical Candles Reveal an Unexpected Surprise As They Melt "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"
You may think you've seen it all when it comes to candles, but the creative brand 54Celcius will surprise you. Their PyroPet candles look like geometric animals on the outside, but as the wax melts, an unexpected secret is revealed. My Modern Met Store has recently added two of the brand's most stunning creations to its collection, and once you see how they work, you will be smitten, too.
The Kisa Cat Candle, for instance, captures the fiery spirit of the housecat. Available in three colorsblack, white, and pinkPyroPet Kisa begins as a stylized cat-shaped candle. But as it burns, it reveals something a bit more unusual. Underneath the unscented wax is a metallic skeleton of the kitty, which gives you a reason to light the candle time and time again until you fully excavate it the skeleton within.
PyroPet Einar works the same way. Based on the Icelandic myth of a unicorn called Einar, who was said to have a heart of gold, this candle contains a gold-colored metal skeleton, complete with an elegant horn. Although it starts out as a stylized animal in lilac or white-colored wax, each time you light the wick, more and more of the secret will be uncovered.
There are a few things to note about PyroPet candles, as they differ from traditional kinds. During the burning process, the candle releases large amounts of wax, so it is recommended to place the candle on a plate or other container to prevent wax overflow. In addition, the metal skeleton should not be touched while the candle is burning as it becomes very hot and can cause injury. However, once the wax has fully melted off, the wick is gone, and the metal has cooled, the remaining skeleton can m...

Duct Tape and Dreams: The Wild History of SFMOMAs Famous Soapbox Derby "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"
Art can have many purposesto be beautiful, to teach, to make us feelbut sometimes, art is just for fun. Such is the case for SFMOMAs Soapbox Derby, a raucously creative race that sent dozens of artist-designed cars barreling through the streets of San Francisco in 1975, 1978, and again last April.
The idea originated with Bay Area sculptor Fletcher Benton (1931-2019) back in the 70s when he proposed that the museum commission a competition to make art fun and accessible to the public and to provide local artists with funding. SFMOMA agreed to the project, and more than 90 artists were tasked with designing racers and trophies. Rules stipulated that the cars must coast, that they must not exceed the dimensions of six feet in width and seventeen feet in length, (and) that the vehicle contains an adequate steering and braking system. Plus, the works should be cost-effective, and the museum offered $100 per car and $35 for trophies.
Thousands of viewers lined the 800-foot winding slope of McLaren Parks Shelley Drive to watch artists like Ruth Asawa, Carlos Vila, and the collective known as Ant Farm compete. Racers were varied in subject matter and material and included vehicles shaped like bananas, sneakers, enormous hands, and a yellow No. 2 pencil, the latter of which was built by Richard Shaw, the winner in the Fastest Looking category of the legendary 1975 competition and the only alum in the 2022 revival.

This couple had a big one planned that would last several months across more than a couple of countries.
My husband (m32) and I (f24) just got married a three weeks ago and we are currently celebrating our honeymoon. The plan was to travel for two months for different countries of Europe, Asia and Africa.
We currently are in Spain and we are supposed to take a plane to Morocco in two days. However my husband wants to cut the trip short and go back to our home now.
Then, her new husband got a phone call that his sister-in-law and niece had been in an accident. He wanted to go home to help support his brother.
The thing is his brother is in a horrible situation, his wife and daughter had a car crash and theyre on the hospital. The kid is fine but his wife has to be a little longer in the hospital, thats all I know.
Which sounds nice, until OP tells you that one of the reasons she didnt want to go is that his niece had already been released from the hospital, he refused to tell her the condition of the SIL, and that her in-laws are caring for the kids to help already.
I told my husband that I understand he wants to support his brother but that hes not a doctor so he cant do anything to help really. And his brothers wife is fine, she probably only has a broken leg or something and thats why she needs some more days in the hospital.
I told him to just call his brother and ask to talk with his wife so he can send her his best wishes and thats all that he can do honestly. His parents and his in laws are help...

If the mind wanders too far from the task, the weaver risks screwing up the pattern or the uniformity of the threads tension. The word kumihimo translates to gathering threads one mustnt let them get snarled by a lack of attention.

How Michelangelos David Still Draws Admiration and Controversy Today "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"
Life imitates art, and by art, I mean, of course, The Simpsons. More than thirty years ago, the show took on the issue of censorship with a story in which Marge Simpson launches an impassioned campaign against cartoon violence, only to find herself on the other side of the fence when asked to support a protest against the exhibition of Michelangelos David. This episode returned to cultural relevance just last month, when a parents complaint about an image of that most renowned nude sculptures indeed, that most renowned sculpture of any kind being shown in a sixth-grade art-history class led to the firing of a Florida school principal.
It seems that the problem wasnt just David: that same lesson included Botticellis painting The Birth of Venus, another glorification of the unclothed human body and so much more besides, according to the Great Art Explained video about it previously featured here on Open Culture.
What You Need to Know About Seed Selection and Acquisition "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"
So you want to grow a garden this year, but youre not sure about a few things. Those shiny seed catalogs and website pictures are almost overwhelming! How do we pick things that will actually do well in our area? How do we know what will be tasty and where can we get it? Ive written about garden planning here. In this article, Ill discuss plant and seed selection and where to get them.
To learn more about growing your own food, check out our Home Agriculture Comprehensive.
When it comes to deciding what you want to grow in your garden, I live by a simple mantra: grow what you eat and eat what you grow. Whats the point of all the work if not to eat it?
If youre not sure, theres an exercise that I recommend for my students: the food list. Write down everything on your plate over the course of one week that can be grown. If youre eating a salad, write down the components. You should be able to create a decent list of what you actually eat that can be grown in a garden.
Then eliminate stuff that wont grow in your grow zone. For example, I enjoy oranges, but they dont grow in USDA grow zone 5B. Garlic and onions wont grow in warmer areas without the subzero winters I enjoy, such as 10A. Knowing your USDA or equivalent grow zone gives you an idea of how long your growing season is, when your frost and freeze dates are, and what crops can or cannot be grown in your area.
Once you have a good idea of what you wish to plant, the fun really begins!
Tomatoes, for example, are a very common mainstay of many vegetable gardens. There are, however, literally hundreds of varieties! Red ones, blue ones, black and purple, and not all tomatoes will grow well in all gardens. Russian black krims, for example, dont grow well in my garden. Other gardeners love them....
Man Asks If Hes A Jerk For Not Helping His Wife With the Kids Because He Has To Work From Home? "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"
The world changed a few years ago, and ever since then, more and more companies are taking advantage of letting their employees work from home. There are many benefits for workers and employees alike, but as anyone who has done it can tell you, there are drawbacks as well.
For OP, his is in the form of his parenting duties, which his wife cant seem to handle on her own while he is on the clock.
He and his wife have two children, one a toddler and the other a baby. He works a regular schedule during the day and his wife is home on maternity leave.
Their toddler goes to daycare for at least some of the time during the week, and OP does more than his fair share of night wakings/feedings with the baby, and takes time out of his day other times he really probably shouldnt.
So my wife and I have two kids. One who is a bit over 2 years old and another that is 5 months old. I work Monday to Friday 9-5 from home, occasionally go in to the office. My wife is on maternity leave and taking care of the 5 month old. I take care of the baby for over night wakings and feedings.
The 2 year old is in daycare. Whether I send my kid to daycare 1 day or 5 days a week for 1 hour or 8 it costs the same. My wife likes to pick up our toddler from daycare around 3:15 everyday instead of letting me go when I finish work because she doesnt want our kid to be there so much during the day. The problem is I am left watching the baby for the 45 minutes while she is gone and then for the hour that she is taking care of both of them she gets overwhelmed, stressed, very annoyed at me and our kids, its just not great overall.
Every day my wife tells me that she is exhausted, she has no time to herself she doesnt get things done that she needs to, shes overwhelmed, just wants to relax when the baby naps etc...

Atheist Republic News Summary: Saudi Judges Face Death Penalty for Being... "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"
Location: Saudi Arabia
The human rights situation in Saudi Arabia is once again under the spotlight as the Democracy for Arab World Now (DAWN) organization warns that Saudi authorities could sentence ten renowned Saudi judges and justices to death on charges of "high treason." This is due to accusations that they were "too lenient" on women's rights activists. Even the judge who notoriously convicted prominent women's rights defender Loujain Al-Hathloul to 20 years imprisonment on baseless "terrorism" charges has been caught up in this crackdown. Shockingly, these judges were denied legal counsel and held incommunicado since they were arrested and detained in 2022. The six arrested judges were replaced by Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman's loyalists, who in turn immediately increased the sentences of several cases involving political activists and Twitter commentators. The Crown Prince's purges have become emblematic of the state of the judiciary, making it subservient solely to his wishes. These judges' prosecution is yet another alarming reminder that no one is safe in Saudi Arabia. Even judges who have abused their power in the past are now being punished for not being brutal enough.

18 People Describe The Moment They Realized Their BFF Was Truly Awful "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"
We all want to believe those were closest to in life are good people. That said, sometimes people are hiding things about themselves that are far too unseemly to forgive once they come to light.

When I trusted and believed he was like a brother only to have him steal thousands of dollars from me. The money didnt even matter but the treason hurt for years.
My brother turned his back on our dad who paid his way through college, paid the down payment on his condo, and gave him two cars.
When I asked him why, he said it was because he didnt text him enough.
Our dad had had a stroke and could only use one hand. He texted my brother once every day or two with one hand anyway.
I took care of our dad through surgery, radiation therapy, physical therapy, stroke rehab, and chemo.
On the last weekend before our dad was starting chemo, I asked him if he wanted to come up and do some grilling with dad because it was the last time wed ever see him healthy.
He said he had plans. I asked what the plans were. He wouldnt give me a straight answer.
Our dad got so sick after that. Couldnt leave a wheelchair. My brother and sister came at christmas and my dad made such an effort to spend time with my brother that he broke both hips.
My brother said to me later he honestly thought it would be best if our crazy mother shot our dad and herself.

Are the Days of Ishmael Here? Global Finance Leadership Takes a Turn East, to the Arab Middle East "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Editor, Health Impact News
If Saudi Arabia did not appear in your news feed for the past two days, then you have missed what has been perhaps one of the most important news stories of not only the past couple of days, but perhaps of the past year, if not the past decade or century, while most of the U.S. population is being distracted by entertainment news as the clown circus show in Florida took their act to Manhattan today.
First, out of nowhere, Saudi Arabia shocked the western financial world yesterday (Sunday, April 2, 2023), by announcing that OPEC was going to reduce oil production by over 1 million barrels per day.
In the latest in a long series of slaps on Bidens face, on Sunday OPEC+ unexpectedly announced an oil production reduction of over 1 million barrels per day, limiting output from May. Saudi Arabia spearheaded the cartels efforts by committing to a 500,000-barrel reduction of its own production.
According to the Saudi Press Agency, a Ministry of Energy official stated the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will implement a voluntary cut of 500 thousand barrels per day from May till the end of 2023.
The cut will be in coordination with other OPEC and non-OPEC participating countries in the declaration of cooperation, the state-run media outlet continued.
This voluntary cut is in addition to the reduction in production agreed at the 33rd OPEC and non-OPEC Ministerial Meeting on October 5, 2022, the paper pointed out.
Other members, such as Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, and Algeria, also joined in the reduction efforts.
Previously, Russia had pledged to cut its crude-only output by 500,000 barrels per day in March in response to Western sanctions, including price caps on its oil and petroleum production, and to keep those curbs in place through June, but has now extended its pledged cuts through the end of the year.
Here are the reductions per country:
- *SAUDI ARABIA TO CUT OIL OUTPUT BY 500,000 BARRELS/DAY FROM MAY
- *KUWAIT TO VOLUNTARY CUT OIL PRODUCTION BY 128,000 BARRELS/DAY
- *UAE TO REDUCE OIL PRODUCTION BY 144,000 BARRELS/DAY FROM MAY
- *KAZAKHSTAN TO CONTRIBUTE 78K B/D TO OPEC+ OUTPUT CUT: MINISTRY
- *IRAQ TO CUT 211,000 B/D OF OIL OUTPUT FROM MAY: MINISTRY

Ronnie Cummins Describes Strategy for Taking Back Organics "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"
I recently spoke with Ronnie Cummins, cofounder and international director of the Organic Consumers Association (OCA), in honor of Regenerative Food and Farming Week. OCA is one of the philanthropic organizations that we support, and Cummins shared some exciting updates in the field of organic and biodynamic agriculture.
One of OCAs major endeavors is the Billion Agave Project, an ecosystem-regeneration strategy being used by Mexican farms in Guanajuato, a high-desert region.1 Cummins was in San Miguel, Mexico, when we spoke, which was right in the middle of the dry season.
As Cummins explains, theres typically no rain in the region for eight months out of the year, and since 86% of Mexican farmers dont have a well, the use of organic and regenerative farming techniques is very important for good production and to improve the environment.2
When you hear terms like regenerative agriculture, its important to look at its source. While small farms around the globe are using organic methods to grow food, in part because they cant afford expensive agricultural chemicals, theyre not getting credit for the truly sustainable farming methods theyre embracing.
Meanwhile, corporate giants are using terms like regenerative to make it seem as though their industrial farming methods are natural. Regenerative food and farming has become a buzzword in natural and organic food circles, Cummins explains.
More and more people understand what it is. But unfortunately, a lot of the agribusiness corporations are using the term regeneration to avoid going organic or biodynamic, and they're using it more as greenwashing. So, we're still looking for people to understand that, you know, regenerative needs to be organic or biodynamic as its bottom line, and then you can improve on those practices.3
As it stands, however, the small farmers arent typically getting rewarded for their regenerative methods the way they should. Cummins continues:4
We shouldn't allow big corporations like Monsanto to be paying bogus carbon credits to, you know, industrial monoculture, corn and soy farms in the Midwest, and claim that if they change one little thing, like they don't plow because they use glyphosate instead or if they use cover crops, but then they burn them down with glyphosate there's nothing really regenerative about that....
Executive Order Lays Foundation for Lab-Created Foods "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"
September 12, 2022, U.S. President Joe Biden signed an "Executive Order on Advancing Biotechnology and Biomanufacturing Innovation for a Sustainable, Safe and Secure American Bioeconomy."1
This executive order makes biotechnology a national priority across agencies and branches of government. As noted in this order, biotechnology will also be used to "improve" food security, sustainability, and agricultural innovation in the U.S.:
"The Secretary of Agriculture, in consultation with the heads of appropriate agencies as determined by the Secretary, shall submit a report assessing how to use biotechnology and biomanufacturing for food and agriculture innovation, including by improving sustainability and land conservation; increasing food quality and nutrition; increasing and protecting agricultural yields; protecting against plant and animal pests and diseases; and cultivating alternative food sources."
In late March 2023, Biden expanded on this premise in a "Bold Goals for U.S. Biotechnology and Biomanufacturing" report.2 According to this plan, the food industry is now to be led by biotech, and the "improvements" we can look forward to are more lab-grown meats and bioengineered plant foods.
In the featured video above, I discuss this rapidly advancing trend, and the true geopolitical incentives behind it, because the U.S. is not alone in moving in this direction. A similar plan is detailed in the U.K.'s Genetic Technology and Precision Breeding Act of 2023.3 Specific goals highlighted in Biden's "Bold Goals" report include:4
Increasing agricultural productivity by 28% in the next decade
Reducing food waste by 50% by 2030
Reducing methane emissions from agriculture by 30% by 2030 by:
1. Capturing biogases from manure management systems
2. Reducing methane emissions from ruminant livestock
3. Reducing methane emissions from food waste in landfills
As reported by Food Dive:5

Why Sleep Deprivation Is a Recipe for Ill Health "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"
Editors Note: This article is a reprint. It was originally published May 12, 2018.
In the featured video, Joe Rogan interviews professor Matthew Walker, Ph.D., founder and director of the University of California Berkeley's Center for Human Sleep Science and author of the book "Why We Sleep: The New Science of Sleep and Dreams,"1 in which he shares the latest discoveries about sleep and how it impacts virtually every area of your physical and mental health.
I read Walker's book last fall, and share his view that sleep is profoundly important even more important than diet and exercise. After all, you're not likely to reap maximum rewards from other healthy lifestyle habits if you're constantly exhausted. Beyond that, lack of sleep has been shown to raise your risk for chronic illnesses such as dementia, cancer, diabetes, heart disease and obesity.
In fact, the World Health Organization has tagged shift work as a "probable human carcinogen" because it causes circadian disruption.2 Lack of sleep is also associated with shorter lifespans. Like Walker, I believe getting quality sleep, and enough of it, is the single most effective thing you can do to reset your brain and body and invigorate your health on a daily basis.
There are many reasons why you may sleep poorly, and one may simply be related to your mindset. Many, especially in the U.S., still view lack of sleep as a badge of honor a sign of drive, ambition and achievement at the expense of sleep. Worse, good sleep is often characterized as a sign of sloth.
As noted by Walker in one of his lectures,3 "We want to seem busy, and one way we express that is by proclaiming how little sleep we're getting. It's time for us to reclaim our right to a full night of sleep, without embarrassment or the stigma of laziness. In doing so, we may remember what it feels like to truly be awake during the day."
According to Walker, "Humans are the only species that deliberately deprive themselves of sleep for no apparent reason," and based on his studies, he is convinced no one can make it on five hours or less of sleep without suffering some level of short-term impairment or long-term illness.
There's an exceptionally rare genetic mutation known as advanced phase sleep syndrome that allows some to thrive with minimal sleep, but you're far more likely to be struck by lightning than have this rare genetic mutation.
Rogan and Walker a...

Iran Says It Chased Off US Spy Plane Over Territorial Waters "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"
This article was originally published by Tyler Durden at ZeroHedge.
Irans military has claimed a US spy plane violated or at least came close to violating its airspace on Sunday, having flown over Iranian territorial waters. An Iranian navy statement said it tracked the movements of an American spy plane that approached Iran without authorization.
After the US Navys EP-3E aircraft entered Irans territorial waters, vigilant Navy commanders sent a warning to prevent the aircraft from entering the countrys airspace without authorization, the statement said.
The incident happened over waters in the Gulf of Oman, and Iranian state media is saying its military chased it away. Navy commanders said the American Navy EP-3E plane returned to international routes after Iran sent a warning.
The Pentagon did not immediately confirm or comment on the alleged incident in the hours after the Iranian media reports.
Tensions are high in the gulf region following recent US Navy intercepts of ships said to be carrying illegal weapons and fuel in the Gulf of Oman.
The UK military has also lately disrupted alleged smuggling operations out of Iran involving cargo destined for Yemen and the Iran-backed Houthi rebels there who for years have been battling Saudi/UAE forces. Washington has long backed the Saudi coalition, and for a long period of time assisting with airstrikes and aircraft.
